Safety belts i
This warning/indicator light reminds you to put on y our
safety belt.
The , ff-warning /indicator light i lluminates when the igni tion is
switched on to remind the d river and (on USA models only) any front
passenger to put on the safety belt . Additionally, an acoustic
warning (gong) will also sound.

This warning/indicator light has the following functions:

ment

• If the warn ing/indicator light illuminates or blinks continuously,
there is a system fau lt in the Adaptive Air Suspension. A system
faul t can result in limited ride comfo rt and
low g ro und cle ar an ce .
Drive safely to the nearest authorized Audi dealer or qualified work ­
shop, and have the fault correc ted.
• If the warning /indicator light flashes, you should not drive the
vehic le . The flashing warning /indicator light points to an extreme
High level. A very
pronounced lifting of the vehic le (extreme High
level) can resu lt, for example, when a heavy load is removed from
the vehicle. As soon as the level has returned to normal, the
warning/indicator light stops flashing, and you can drive away .
• If the warning /indicator light flashes in conjunction with the
a,
warning /indicato r light , you should not drive off immediately in
order to prevent damage to the underbody . The two warning /indi ­
cator lights flashing together points to an extreme Low level. A very
pronounced lowering of the vehicle (extreme Low level) can result,
for examp le, from a heavy load. As soon as the level has returned to
nor mal, th e warning/indicator lights stop flashing, and you can
drive away.

If the wa rning/indicator light flashes in conjunction with the a,
warning/indicator light, you should not drive the vehic le because
low -lying vehicle parts can bottom out as you drive over uneven
ground and be damaged as a resul t.•

Driver information display
Introduction
General notes
The driver information display inside the instrument
cluster provides you, the driver, with much useful infor­
mation.

Information from the Driver Information System is shown in the
display in the center of the instrument cluster.
When you turn on the ignition and whi le you are driving, some func ­
tions and vehicle components are scanned for their operating status . Malfunctions or required service procedures are signa lled
audibly and shown by red and yellow lighted symbols and
reminders to the driver in the display .
The driver is also shown information about radio and CD operation and directions for the navigation system . You can find additional
information on these subjects in the MMI manual.

Please note that objects not touching the ground can appear to be
further away than they really are (for example, the bumper of a
parked vehicle, a trailer hitch, or the rear of a truck). In this case,
you should not use the guide help lines to measure distance -

The surface beh ind the vehicle, identified by various shades of blue,
represents an ex tension of the outer vehic le outline by approxi ­
mately 16 ft (5 ml to the rear. The transitions of the blue surfaces are
distanced approxima te ly 3 ft (1 ml, 6 ft (2 m), and 16 ft (5 m) away
from the vehicle .
@ and 0 Orange orientation lines
The orientation lines change direction with the steering wheel
ang le . These lines identi fy t he direction of travel the rear o f the
vehicle would be taking, driving in reverse gear with the current
steering whee l ang le .
The dynamic orientation lines are provided with markers@. These
markers are each placed at a distance of approx. 3 ft ( 1 ml from one
another. Through these markers, the distance to an obstacle can be
estimated .

Back up in reverse gear and adjust the posit ion of your
vehicle in such a way, that the dark blue surface indicated in the MMI Display@=> fig. 214 borders on the vehicle
behind, or the parking spot line. If you are

next to any obstacles=>

dark blue surface should border on the curb. The entire
dark blue surface has to fit into the parking spot
=> page 194, fig. 209.
- While the vehicle is stationary, turn your steering wheel
to the righ t as far as it will go.
- Back up into the parking spot. If you are
not parking next
to any obstacles=>

should touch the curb=> fig. 215. Stop your vehicle.
- While the veh icle is stationary, turn your steering wheel
in the opposite direction (left) as far as it will go.
- Continue to back up into the parking spot until the
vehicle is parked parallel to the curb. When backing up, also keep an eye on the vehicle front=>

With "parking mode 2", you can park on the left and right side of the
road. For this reason, the blue surfaces and curved lines are
displayed in different shades of blue. The dark blue surface

and curves are shown . To change the s ide that is shown, simp ly
change the turn signa l.
The displayed light b lue

turn-around point when maneuvering to park. If the curved line
touches the curb, the steering wheel turn -around point has been
reached => page 198, fig. 215.
T he distance from the rear bumper © to the red line © is approxi ­

Parking next to obstacles
When parking next to an obstacle, enough distance mus t
left on the side.

With "parking mode 2", you can park very c losely to a sidewalk curb
with your vehicle=> page 194, fig. 209.
However, when parking next to an obstacle, such as a brick wall , a
larger side distance must be selected in order to prevent col lisio n
damage to the vehicle. Position the long side of the marked blue
s u rface so that there is enoug h distance from the curb; the surface
must not touch the curb=> fig. 216.
A lso, the turning process has to occur considerab ly sooner . This
means that the corresponding blue curved line=> page 198, fig. 215
must not touch the curb, but shou ld rather be at a distance far
enough from the curb=>& .
& WARNING
• Keep plenty of di sta nce from an obstacle , so that your out side
mirror or a corner of your vehi cle does not collide with any obsta-
cle s -danger of accident!

"Off" sett ing
If you have set the off function, both the rear -view camera and the
visual display will be deac tiva ted . The acous tic pa rking assist
remains active .

If you change the sett ings in the MM I, the new settings do not
become active unti l the parking assist is switched on aga in. •

Acoustic parking system error message
If you hear a continuous tone for several seconds while the front
and back parking assist with visual display is activated and the LED
in the switch
P wA flashes when you engage the reverse gear , there is
a malfunction in the acoustic parking assist .
This system error is immediately output after: • Every manual activation via the switch
P wA ~ pag e 191,
• Reverse gear is engaged for the first time during an ign ition
cycle, or
• An error is detected during operation.

Rear-view camera tips
We recommend that you practice park ing with the rear -view camera
in a traffic -free location , or parking lot , to become familiar with the
system, the orientation lines, and their function . When doing this,
there should be good light and weather conditions .
I n the MM I Display, objects or vehicles appea r c loser or further away
if :
• you are driving in reverse g ear from a level surface onto an
incline, or a downward slope,
• you are driv ing in reverse gear toward protruding objects,
• the vehic le is carrying too much load in the rear.
T he accuracy of the orientation lines and b lue surfaces diminishes
if :
• the Adaptive Air Suspension * is defective, or the dynamic,
off road, o r lift mode is sw itched on,
• the rear -view camera does not provide a reliable image, for
example, in poor visibility condit ions or if the lens is d irty,
• the image on the screen is not visible due to sun glare and reflec ­
tion .

• Damp en the lens with a hous ehold a lcohol -based glass cleaner,
and c lean the lens w ith a dry cloth.
• Remove snow with a hand brush.
• Remove ice , preferably with de -icing spray~

Adaptive Air Suspension
Air suspension and damping
Applies to vehicles: with Adaptive A ir Suspens ion
Description
Air suspension and damping can be regulated as desired
by driver, and they adapt automatically to the driving situ­
ation at the time.
Adaptive Air Suspension is an electronica lly contro lled springing
and damping system. This chassis system makes it easier on the
driver by adapting to the particular situation through imperceptible
control processes.
The
Adaptive Air Suspension component regulates ground clear ­
ance depending on vehic le speed and driver inpu t. It functions inde­
pendently from the load condition. Accelerating to a speed above a
predetermined limit will make the vehic le lower itself . On the other
hand, driving more slowly results in the vehicle raising again at
specific speeds.
The
damping component provides individual control of the
damping forces. For example, with damping characteristics set to
provide greater comfort, damping is set somewhat harder for a brief
period only as required, for example, when going around a curve or
when braking.
Settings
Adaptive Air Suspension prov ides the driver with the opportunity to
set the chassis characteristics a lso to their individual preference.
With the driving modes
comfort, automatic and dynamic the driver
has three chassis settings available, ranging from comfort to sporty.
The
offroad mode can be selected for driving on poor qua lity
stretches of road. In addition, lift provides a fifth mode, which can
be selected when exceptionally high ground clearance is needed
=> page 207, "Chassis controls". The modes are set in
MMI:::::,
page 208.
& WARNING
The height of the parked vehicle can change due to temperature
fluctuations or changes in load.
0 Note
• Whenever you park your vehicle, always make sure there is
adequate clearance above and below the vehic le. The height of the
parked vehicle can change as the result of temperature fluctuations,
changes in load condition and changes in the driving mode (ground
clearance!.
• If the vehicle is being transported (e.g. by tow truck, train, ship,
etc.), mount the tie -down chains/cables over the running surface
(circumference) of the tires . Never secure the veh icle by the axle, the
suspension struts or the front or rear towline eye. For technical
reasons, the pressure in the suspension struts may change during
the transport, which could result in the vehic le no longer being
secured properly.
• If you are going to tow a trailer with a trailer hitch that was
not
installed according to factory specifications, you must activate the
trailer operation mode manually:::::,

• Before you can raise your vehic le using the vehicle jack (for
example, when changing a flat tire) or a vehicle lift, you must acti­
vate the jacking mode:::::,

• On some models, the vehicle can reach its maximum speed only
in the
automatic and dynamic modes. •
