12 Instruments and warning/indicator lights
Speedometer with odometer
The speedometer shows you the vehicle
speed, and the odometer shows you how
many miles (kilometers) you have driven.

inside the speedometer.
- USA mode ls - Miles
- Canada models -Kilometers
You can switch the display from miles to kilo­ meters and vice versa via the MMI. You can
find out more in the MMI manual.
Lower odometer
The lower odometer shows the total number
of mi les (kilometers) driven.
Upper odometer (trip odometer)
The upper odometer shows the tota l number
of mi les (kilometers) driven since you last re­
set the odometer to zero. You can use this od­
ometer when you want to keep track of how many miles (k ilometers) you have driven for a
single trip or errand. The last digit indicates
1/10 of a mile (100 meters).
You can reset the trip odometer to zero by
pressing the Reset button

Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction somewhere in the in­
strument cluster,
dEF will appear in the trip
odometer and will stay on. Contact your au ­
thorized Audi dealer to have the problem cor­
rected.
(D Tips
- When you open t he driver door, the time,
date and odometer are disp layed for an
add itiona l 30 seconds.
- You can also call up the display with the
I CHECK I button c> page 12 while the ig­
nition is switched off.
Fuel gauge
The fue l gauge only works when the ignition is
on .
When the needle reaches the reserve mark,
the
c> page 35 mJ symbol appears in the in­
strument cluster d isplay as well as the mes ­
sage
Please refuel. This message is meant to
remind you to
refuel.
The total tank capacity of your vehicle is listed
in
.:> page 325 .
@ Note
Never run the tank completely dry. An ir­
regular supply of fuel can cause engine
misfiring and fuel could enter the exhaust
system. The catalytic converter could then
overheat and be damaged.

EPC Electronic power control
Applies to veh icles: w ith gasoline engine
This warning/indicator Light monitors the
electronic power control .
The Illa warning/ indicator light (Electron ic
Power Control) illuminates when you turn on
the ignit ion as a funct ion check .
(D Tips
If this warn ing/ indicator light illum inates
while you are driving, then there is a mal­
funct ion in the engine electronics . Have
the malfunct ion corrected as soon as pos­
sible by your author ized Audi dealer or
q ualified workshop.
W Glow plug system
Applies to veh icles: w ith diesel engine
The control Light illuminates when the glow
plug system is active .
If the II indicator light illuminates, the glow
plug system is act ive . You should start the en­
gine immediately after the ind icator light
swi tches
off. Th e indi cator light only i llum i­
nates fo r approximate ly 1 second if the en­
gine is warm or if the outside temperature is
above 46 QF (8 QC).
(D Tips
- I f the glow plug indica tor ligh t illum i­
nates while dr iving, there is an eng ine
contro l malfunction. The engine should
be checked immediate ly .
- I f the ind icator light does not illuminate
at a ll when switching the ign ition on,
there may be a malfunction in the glow
plug system. The engine sho uld be
checked.

;;./~ Electronic Stabilization Control
(ESC)
This warning/indicator light monitors the
Electronic Stabilization Control.
If th€ JjJ indicator light blinks wh ile driving,
the ESC or ASR (Ant i-S lip Regulation) is active­
l y regulating.
If the
DJ indicator light turns on, the system
has sw itched the ESC off . In this case, you can
switch the ignition off and then on to switch
the ESC on again. The indicator light turns off
when the system is functioning fully.
If the
II indicator light turns on, ESC was re·
stricted using the
I B OFF ! button~ page 223 .
Stabilization con trol (E SC/A BS): Fault! See
o wn er's manu al
If th€ J.i) indicator light and the ABS indicator
light
ml (USA models) ; IIJ (Canada models)
turn on and the message appears, the ABS or
electronic differential lock is malfunction ing .
This also causes the ESC to malfunct ion . The
brakes st ill function with the ir normal power,
but ABS is not act ive.
Drive to your authorized Aud i dealer or quali­
fied workshop immediately to have the mal·
function corrected.
A WARNING
If the 1111 (USA models) . (Canada
mode ls) brake system ind icator light turns
on togethe r with the ABS and ESC indica­
tor lights, the ABS/ESC regulating function
may have failed . Functions that stabilize
the vehicle are no longer avai lab le. This
could cause the vehicle to swerve and in·
crease the risk of sliding. Dr ive carefully to
the nearest authorized Aud i dea ler or oth­
er qua lified workshop and have the mal·
function corrected.

T he . (USA models)/ . (Canada mode ls)
i ndica tor light monito rs the safety systems
(e.g . ai rbags, pretensioners) and illuminates
for a few seconds each time you switch the ig­
nition on.
If the . (USA models)/ . (Canada models)
indicator light does not go out, or if it illumi­
nates while you are driving, or if it starts to
blink, then there is a malfunction somewhere
in the system. If the light does not illuminate
when you switch the ign ition on, th is also
means there is a malfunct ion.
A WARNING "'--
If you have a malfunction in the safety sys-
tems, contact your a uthorized Audi dea ler
i mmediately. Otherwise the safety sys­
tems may not work properly in an acc i­
dent.
¢¢ Turn signal s
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal.
Whenever you use the left B or the right Ill
turn s ignal, the indicator light blinks . When
you use the emergency flashe rs, both indica­
tor lights flash .
If one of the turn signal light bulbs burn out,
the turn signal will blink twice as fast as nor· mal.
This does not apply, however, in towing mode.
The ind icator light does not flash if a turn sig·
nal is out on the tra iler or the towing veh icle .

-If the warning/indicator light flashes in con­
junction with the
Ill warning/indicator
li ght, you shou ld not drive the vehicle imme­
diately in order to prevent damage to the
underbody . The two warning/indicator
lights flash ing together po ints to an ex­
treme Low level. A very
pronounced lower­
ing
of the veh icle (ext reme Low level) can re­
sult, fo r example, from a heavy load. As
soon as the leve l has ret urned to norma l
I
the warning/indicato r lights stop flashing,
and yo u can drive away.

If the warn ing/ indicator light flashes in
conjunction with the
Ill warning/indicator
light, you should not drive the veh icle be­
cause low- lying vehicle parts can bottom
out as you drive over uneven ground and
be damaged as a result.
~ Safety belts
This warning/indicator light reminds you to
put on your safety belt.
The . warning/indicator lig ht ill uminates
when the ignition is sw itched on to remind
the driver and (on USA models only) any front passenger to put on the safety belt. Add ition­
ally, an acoustic warning (gong) w ill also
sound.

The II warning/indicator light illuminates
when the high beams are on or when you use
the head light flasher. For more informat ion
about us ing the h igh beams, see

ill Tire pressure monitoring system -
telltale indicator lamp
The warning/indicator light appears in the
event of a significant loss of tire pressure or if there is a malfunction.
The ind icator light [IJ illuminates to check
the function w hen you switch on the ign ition.
If the
[IJ symbol remains on or blinks after
you sw itch on the ign it ion, there is a loss of
t ire p ressure or a system ma lfunction . If there
is a system ma lfunction, see your authorized
Audi dealer as soon as poss ible.

. CRUISE /''(") Cruise control
The IR;\l)~il (U SA mode ls) ,fl (Canada mod­
els) warning/indicator light i lluminates when
t h e cr uise control is activated .
ABS/(8) Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
This warning/indicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differential lock (EDL) .
The ttl1 (USA models) /KO)l (Canada mode ls)
warning/indicator ligh t will come on for a few
seconds when the ignition is switched on. The
light will go out after an a utomatic check se ­
quence is comp leted .
There is a malfunct ion in the ABS when:
- The warning/indica tor l igh t does no t illum i­
nate when you switch on the ignition.
- The warning/indicator light does no t go o ut
after a few seconds.
- The warning/indicator light illum inates
while driving.
The brak e syst em will still respond e ven
withou t the ass istanc e of th e ABS sy stem .

The t rip computer w ill not operate unless the
ignition is on. When you turn on the ignition,
the function that was in use when you last
turned the ignit ion off will be d isp layed .
I n addi tion to informa tion abo ut the trip com­
puter (trip computer 1, 2 and the efficiency
prog ram*), information about other systems
can also be shown in the display. To switch the
d isp lay between the d ifferent information,
tap the I RESET! button @ briefly.
Resetting values to z ero
• Se lect a va lue in the desired trip computer
or in the efficiency program* .
• Press and ho ld the I RESE T
I button @for at
least one second. All va lues in the selected
trip computer or in the eff iciency program*
are reset to zero .
If the data in trip compute r 1 are deleted,
then the values in the efficiency program* will
a lso be reset.
W ith some vehicle equipment leve ls, the va l­
ues for the s ingle trip or total tr ip memory
can also be reset in the MMI

@ Tips
All stored values will be lost if the vehicle
battery is disconnected.
MMI settings
Basic settings for the trip computer con be
mode in the MM I.

The val ues in the single -trip or the to tal-tr ip
memory can a ll be reset to zero at t he same

tion, assum ing that you have not changed or
reset the setting.
The speed warning symbol. (USA models)/
• (Canada models) in the warning 1 display
appears when you exceed the maximum
speed . It goes out when the speed falls below
the stored maximum speed.
The speed warning symbo l wi ll also go out if
the speed exceeds the stored maximum speed
by more than about 25 mph (40 km/h) for at
least 10 seconds. The stored maximum speed
is deleted .

Speed warn ing 2
Storing warn ing 2 is recommended if you al­
ways want to be reminded of a certa in speed ,
for example when you a re traveling in a coun­
try that has a general maximum speed limit,
or if you do not want to exceed a specified
speed for winter tires .
The speed warning 2 symbol, . (U SA mod ­
els)/ . (Canada models) appears in the dis­
p lay when you exceed the stored speed limit.
Unlike warning 1, it will not go out unti l the
ve hicle speed drops below the stored speed
limit.

With a priority 1 malfunction, a large symbol
appears in the center area of the display

0 Alternator malfunction
If the . symbol in the instrument panel dis­
play flashes, then there is a malfunction in the
alternator o r the vehicle elect ronics. A warn­
ing to the driver will appear, too . The driver
warning goes out after about 5 seconds, but it
can be brought up at any time by pressing the
ICHECK I button aga in.
Usually, you can still drive to the next deale r­
ship . Turn off all but the most necessary elec­
trical consumers, since these drain the vehi­
cle's battery.

Garage door opener (Homelink)
Description
Applies to vehicles: with garage door opener (Ho melink)

You can activate various systems such as ga­
rage doors, security systems and home light­
ing from inside your vehicle using the garage
door opener (Homelink) . There are three but­
tons for this in the vehicle headliner that can
be in used in place of up to three hand -held
transmitters.
To operate systems using the garage door
opener, the three buttons in the roof headlin­
er must be programmed first .
A WARNING
Make sure no people or objects are in the
immediate vicinity of the equipment when
using or programming the garage door
opener. People can be injured and objects
can be damaged i f they are caught in the
equipment.

codes that were set at the factory and

gramming mode is active for 5 minutes.
5 . Move in front of you r veh icle while ho ld­
ing the original remote control for the
system that would like to program to a
button in the roof headliner.

6 . Hold the remote control towards the left
headlight and the radiator grille

7. Press and hold the remote control until
the turn signals on your vehicle blink. This
may take up to 30 seconds .
8 . If the emergency flashers blink three
times, the programming was successful.
If the emergency f lashe rs on ly blink one
time , the S minute time limit fo r the pro­
gramming has ended or the programming
was not successfu l. Repeat the program­
ming from the third step, or try changing
the distance to the bumper.
9 . If the garage door or other system does
not open us ing the buttons in the roof
headliner even though the programming
was successful, the system may use a roll ­
ing code instead of a fixed code .

individually . They must all be erased together .

Rolling code programm ing
Applies to vehicles: with garage door opener (Homelink)
Rolling code programming is also needed for
some systems.
Identifying a rolling code
.,. Press and hold the button in the roof head­
liner that was already prog rammed.

LED blinks quickly, the systems (such as a
garage door) is equipped with a ro lling code.
.,. Program the rolling code as follows:

tem's motor un it . The exact loca tion and
color of the button may vary depending on
the brand of the system .
.,. Press the programming button on the ga­
rage door opener motor unit (this will usual­
ly activate an " indicator" on the motor unit) .
