Front passenger's seat
Always move the front passenger seat into the rearmost position.
To avo id contact w it h the airbag wh ile i t is de­
p loying, do not sit any closer to the inst rument
panel than necessary and always wear the three ­
point safety belt provided adjusted correctly. We
recommend that you adjust the passenger's seat in the following manner:
.,. Bring the backrest up to an (a lmost) upright
position .
Do not ride with the seat reclined .
.,. Applies to vehicles with adjustable head re­
straints: Adjust the head restra int so the upper
edge is as even as poss ible with the top of your
head. If that is not possib le, try to adjust the
head restraint so that it is as close to this posi­
tion as possible ¢

-Never ad just the driver's or front passeng­
er's seat while the vehicle is moving. If you
do this while the veh icle is moving, yo u will
be out of posit ion. Always adjust the driver 's
or front passenger's seat when the vehicle is
not moving .
- Be careful when adjusting the seat height. Check to see that no one is in the way, or se­
r ious injury cou ld result!
- Because the seats can be electrically adjust­ ed w ith the ignition off or with the ignition
key removed, never leave children unattend­
ed in the vehicle. Unsuperv ise d use of the
electric seat adj ustments may cause serious
m Ju ry.
- To reduce the risk of injury in the case of
sudden b raking or accident, fro nt passen­
ge rs must neve r ride in a moving veh icle
w ith the backres t reclined. Safety belts and
the air bag system on ly offer ma ximum pro ­
tect ion when the bac krest is upright and the
safety belts are properly positioned on t he
body. The more the backrest is recl ined, the
greater the risk of persona l injury from an
incorrect seating posit ion and improperly
positioned safety belts.

Power easy entry function
The easy entry function makes it easier for the
rear passengers to enter and leave the vehicle .

.. To fold the front seat back rests forward/back,
lift the latch @¢ fig. 52 or¢ fig. 53 and fold
the backrest forward.
.. To move the front seats forward/back, press
and hold the@ button until the seat has
reached the desired position .
When the front seats are moved forward, their
or iginal pos ition is stored. When it is moved
back, the seat automatically stops in this pos i­
tion . To move the seat even further back, you
have to release the switch @ and reactivate it .
Applies to vehicles w ith adjustab le head re­
straints: The head restraints from the front seats,
depending on the seat he ight that has been set,
are automatically retracted when the seatbacks
are folded down. They return to their orig inal po­
sition again when the seatbacks fo r the front

Using the
Conveni ence s ide view function, the
passenger's sea t is adjusted so that the driver
has the best poss ible view to the right . When the
Co nvenience side view is set, the spe cific position
of the dr iver's se at is taken in to consideration.
U sing the
Seat symmetry function, the passeng­
er's seat can be moved to the same pos ition as
the d river's seat. The se tti ngs for the driver's seat
are imported and set au toma tic ally.

- Vehicles with a pass through in the center console have seat ing for four. The long cen­
ter console between the two rear seats is
not a seat ing pos ition. Therefo re, a safety
belt is not provided.

Memory function
Description
Appl ies to vehicles: wi th memo ry fu nct io n
The memory f unct ion allows you to quickly and
easily store and recall personal seating profiles
for the driver . The memory function is operated
t h rough the master key and the memo ry buttons
in the driver 's door.
T he driver's seating p rofile is stored and assigned
to the master key each time the vehicle is locked.
When you open the door, the seat profile is auto­ matically reca lled. If two people use one vehicle,
it is recommended that each person always uses
"their own" ma ster key.
Up to 2 seat profi les can be stored in the memory
buttons in the driver's door. Once they are stored,
these seat profiles can be selected at any time.
In addition to the driver's seat settings, you can
also store and access the exterior mirror adjust­
ment settings* using the remote contro l key or
memory bu tton.

Switching the memory function on/off
• Press the !ON/O FF I button to switch the memo­
ry function on/off. The word
OFF lights up when
the memo ry function is switched off . Seat pro­
files are neither stored nor recalled.
Storing a seat profile
• Press the !SE T! button. When the word SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
tings.
• Press a memory button
([I I or ~) briefly . A tone
confirms that the sett ings were stored.
Accessing a seat profile
• If the driver's door is open and the ig nit ion is
switch ed off, press the memory button.
• If the driver's door is closed or the ignition is
switched on, press and hold the memory but­
ton until the seat adjustment is comp lete .
.&_ WARNING
- For safety reasons, the seat sett ing can only
be recalled when the vehicle is stat ionary -
otherwise you risk having an accident .
- In an emergency the recall procedure can be
cancelled by pressing the
!ON/OFF I switch or
by tapping the memory buttons.

The cigarette lighter should only be used as a
power source for the t ire repair kit when abso­

- You can open the pass-through from the
luggage compartment. Push the release
button down and push the cover forward.
- You can lock or unlock the pass-through us­
ing the mechanical key. This prevents any
access to the luggage compartment from

Securing the ski sack

Sea ts and sto rage
A WARNING
-- The ski sack is intended only for the trans-
portation of skis and other light objects . To
reduce the risk of serious personal injury,
never transport heavy or pointed objects in
the ski sack.
- When braking rapid ly or during an accident,
the load could be displaced and cause injury
to occupants.
- Sharp edges on the load must be covered for p rotection. Always fasten the belt tightly
around the sack and its contents~

- For safety reasons, do not transport more
than two pairs of skis in the ski sack.
- You must secure the ski sack with the strap after loading.
- Make sure that all objects you are transport­
ing in the pass-through are secured. Other­
wise they could slide around during sudden b rak ing maneuvers and cause injuries.
(l} Tips
- Never stow the ski sack away when it is still
wet or damp (for example, snow melting
from skis). Allow it to dry completely before stowing it away.
- When transporting sk is or snowboards,
tighten the securing strap between the bindings.
- Pos ition skis in the sk i sack with the pointed
ends facing the front and ski poles with the
pointed ends facing the rear.
- You can lock or unlock the pass-through us­
ing the mechan ical key. This prevents any
access to the luggage compartment from
the vehicle interior.
Parcel shelf
The parcel shelf behind the rear seatback can be
used to carry light items of clothing.
A WARNING
-
No heavy or hard objects should be placed on
the parcel shelf. They are a hazard to the vehi ­
cle occupants dur ing sudden braking. The is a
risk of injury.

We recommend pressing the !AU TO ! button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C).

Press the buttons to turn the functions on or off.
Use the dials to adj ust the temperature, the
b lo wer speed and the air distribution. The LED in
a button will light up when the function is
switched on. The settings are displayed for a few
seconds in the radio or MMI* display.
In vehicles with a 3-zone deluxe automatic cli­
mate control systems*, the driver and front pas­
senger side can be adjusted sepa rately. The set­
tings are also disp layed in the climate control
system display .

I OFFI Switching the climate control system
on/off
The ! OFF ! button switches the climate contro l
system on or off.
It also switches on when you
press the knob. Airflow from outside is blocked
when the cl imate control system is switched off.
IA/C l Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not cooled and humidity is not removed
when coo ling mode is switched off. This can
cause fog on the windows. The cooling mode is
switched off automatically at low outside tem­
peratures.

In re circul ation mode, the air inside the ve hicle is
circu lated and fi ltered . This prevents the unfil ­
tered air outside the vehicle from enteri ng the

Adjusting the temperature
Temperatures between 60 °F (+16 °C) and 84 °F
( + 28 °C) ca n be set. O utside of this range,

HI will appear in the climat e control sys tem d is ­
p la y. At bo th of these setti ngs, the climate con­
trol system r uns con tinuously at maximum cool ­
i ng or heating power. There is no tempe rat ure
regulat ion.

Press ing the button switches the seat heat ing on
at the highest set ting (level 3). The LEDs indicate
the tempe ratu re leve l. To red uce the tempe ra­
ture, press the b utt on again . To swi tch the seat
h eat ing off, pres s the bu tto n repea tedly unt il th e
L ED turns off .
Afte r 10 minutes, the seat heat ing automatica lly
sw itches from leve l 3 to leve l 2.

The maxim um amount of air flows mainly from
the vents below the windsh ield. Recircu lation
mode switches off. The temperature should be
set to 72 °F (22 °C) or higher. The temperature is
controlled automatica lly .

lliil REAR I Switching rear window heater on/
off
T he rea r window heate r o nly operates w hen the
engine is running . It switches off a utomat ica lly
after a few minutes, dependi ng on the outside
temperature.
T o p revent the rea r window heate r from switch­
ing off automatically, press and hold the
l oo REAR I
button f or more than 2 sec onds. T his re mains
stored until the ignit io n is switched off.
Air vents
You can open and close t he center and rear air
vents using the thumbwhee ls . T he levers ad just
the d irection of the a irflow from the vents.
In veh icles with a 3-zone deluxe au toma tic cli­
mate control system *, yo u can adjust the air tem­
perature in the rear by tu rning the th umbwheel
toward the red side to make it warmer or toward
t h e b lue side to make it cooler.
A WARNING
-
- Do not use the recirc ulation for extended
peri ods of time. The w indows could fog up
since no fresh air can en ter the vehicle. If
the windows fog up, pre ss the ai r rec ircula­
tion button agai n immed iate ly to sw itch off
the air recir culation func tion or se lec t d e­
frost.
- I ndivi duals w ith re duced s ensi tivi ty to p ain
or tem pera ture could deve lop burns when
using the sea t heat ing f unct ion . To re duce

.. Take the adapter for the emergency key out of
the glove compartment

.. Press the emergency key in the adapter down
until it latches audibly.
.. Insert the adapter with the emergency key for­
ward into the ignition switch. The engine can
now be started as usual.
Stopping the engine
Applies to vehicles: with ig ni tion lock
.. Bring the vehicle to a full stop.
.. Automatic transmission: Move the selector lev­
er to the P or N position.
.. Press on the ignition key. The engine is turned
off .
.. You can now remove the key.
Steering lock
The steering locks when you remove the ignition
key. The locked steering helps prevent vehicle
theft.
Emergency off
If it is necessary in unusual circumstances, the
engine can be switched off while the vehicle is
moving. The engine will be switched off if you
press on the key for an extended period.
A WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed . You must use
more force to turn or brake if necessary. Be­
cause you cannot steer and brake as you
usually would, this could lead to crashes
and serious injuries.
- For safety reasons, you should always park
your vehicle with the selector lever in P. Oth­
erwise, the vehicle could inadvertently roll
away.
- The radiator fan can continue to run for up
to 10 minutes even after you have turned
off the engine and removed the ignition key.
Driving
The radiator fan can also turn on again if the
engine coolant heats up because of intense
sunlight or heat build-up in the engine com­
partment.
- Always take the key with you whenever you
leave your vehicle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operat­
ed. This can lead to serious injury.
- Never leave children or persons requiring as­
sistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doors can be locked using the remote trans­
mitter, preventing people from escaping
from the veh icle on their own in the event of
an emergency. Depending on the time of
year, people inside the vehicle can be ex­
posed to very high or very low tempera­
tures.
(D Note
If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period, heat builds up in the en­
gine compartment after the engine is switch­
ed off -there is a risk of damaging the engine.
Allow the engine to run at idle for about two minutes before switching it off.

Switching the ignition on /off
If you would like to sw itch the ignition on with­
out start ing the e ng ine, fo llow these steps:
"' Press the
!START ENGINE STOPI button with -
out pressing the brake pedal.
"'T o sw itch the ignition off, press the but to n
again.
If the engine sho uld not start immed iately, the
starting p rocess is a utomat ically stopped after a
short time. Repeat sta rting procedure.
When starting the engine, major e lectr ica l loads
are sw itched off temporar ily .
After a cold engine is started, there may be a brief period of increased noise because oil pres­
sure must first build up in the hydraulic valve ad­
justers. This is normal and not a cause for con­
cern.
_& WARNING
- Never allow t he engine to ru n in co nfine d

- Never turn off the engine unti l the vehicle
h as come to a comp lete stop.

(!} Tips
- After starting a col d en gine, t here may be a
br ie f per iod of increased noise because the
oil pressure must first bui ld up in the hy­
draulic valve adjusters. This is norma l and
not a cause for concern.
- If you leave the veh icle with the ignition
switched on, the ig nition w ill switch off af­
ter a ce rtain period of time. Please note that
e lect rical equipment such as exte rior lights
wi ll switch off as well when that happens.
