The orientation lines change d irect ion with the steer ing wheel angle .
T hese lines identify the direction of t ravel the rear of the ve hicle
would be taking, driving in reverse gea r with the current stee ring
w heel ang le .
The dynamic orientation lines are provided with markers @. These
ma rkers are each pla ced at a d ista nce of app rox . 3 ft (1 m) from o ne
another. Th rough these markers, the distance to an obstacle can be
es tim ated .

With "parking mode 2", you can park on the left and right side of the
road. For this reason, the b lue surfaces and curved lines are displayed
in different shades of blue . The dark blue surface @and the dark blue
curved line © can be used to park on the right s ide of the road . The
light blue surface

park on the left side of the road.
When the tur n signal is sw itched on , only the necessary s urfaces and
curves are shown. To change the side that is shown , simply change
t he tu rn s ignal.
T he disp layed light blue® or dark blue © curved line identif ies the
turn-around po int when maneuvering to park. If the curved line
touches the curb, the steer ing wheel turn-around point has been
reached => fig .

• The Audi pa rkin g system is not a substitute for being careful
and alert when backing up. Be especially careful during parking
and similar maneuve rs. Always watch where you are driving and
make sure that nothing i s in the way.
• When maneuvering or parking, do not only use the MMI
Display for or ientation. Certain object s - depending on the screen
resolution - may not , o r not entirely , be displ ayed ; for e xample
trailer hitches, chains , narrow post s, or fences.
• Improper rel iance on the Audi parking sy stem can cau se colli­
sions and seriou s personal injury.
- Ne ver rely only on par king assi st when ch anging ba cking up .
- Always check rear view mirrors to make sure it is safe to back
up .•

The red line in the MMI Disp lay~ fig. 188 indicates the d ista nce you
should maintain from an obstacle, when park ing. If an obstacle is
located at road level, you can ap proach the obstacle unti l the red line
touches the obstacle ( 1.3
ft, or 40 cm, distance). On the other hand,
if a n obstacle is not located at road level (t he b umper of a vehi cle, for
example), you should not approach this obstacle unti l the red line
to uch es the obsta cle.
For instance, if you back up toward another vehicle , it will appear as
t hough t he guide hel p lines and s urf aces are bein g pushed over the
vehicle behind you~ fig. 188. I n this example, it can be recogn ized
in th e MM I Display that the red line exactly touches the bumpe r of t he
vehicle be hind you. Indeed, however, t he red line @ ~ fig. 189 does
not touch the bumper, but has rather been pushed underneath the
bu mper. The actual d istance (dashed line@) to t he ve hicle beh ind
you is meanwhile less than 1.3 ft (40 cm). Your veh icle b umper must
a lso be taken into con siderat ion fo r the distance ~& .
& WARNING

The volume and frequency settings are automatically stored and
as signed to the remote maste r key.
& WARNING
Alway s make sure that the volume and frequency of the chimes is
adjusted so that you can eas ily hear the acou stic di stance signal
even if the radio is playing , the air -condition er blower i s on High
or there is a high l ev el of outs ide no ise. Check the settings when­
ever someone el se has driven the vehicle before you .•

The menu for adjus ting signal sounds can also be call ed

page 166 , fig. 184 wi ll be displayed when driv ing back­
w ar d and forwar d w henever the park ing assist system is ac tiv at ed.
"Automatic" setting
If you have se t the automatic function, the pi ctu re from t he rea r-view
camera will automatic ally be d isp layed when reverse ge ar is engaged
and t he visu al di spla y w ill be disp laye d on t he M MI di sp lay w hen you
dr ive forward .
"Off" setting
If you have set the off function, both the rea r-view came ra and the
vi su al di sp lay w ill be de acti vated. The a cous tic par king a ss ist remain s
act ive.

Rear-view camera tips
We recommend that you practice parking w ith the rear-v iew camera
in a traffic -free location, o r parking lot, to become familiar with the
system, the or ient atio n lines , and the ir fun ct ion. W hen do ing t his,
there should be good light and weather cond itions.
In the MM I Display, objec ts or vehicles appe ar close r or f urther aw ay
if:
• you are driving in reverse gear from a level surface onto an incline,
or a downwa rd slope,
• you are driv ing in reverse gear towar d prot ruding objects,
• the vehicle is carry ing too much load in the rear .
T he accuracy of the orientatio n lines and blue su rfaces diminishes if :
• t he Ad aptive Air S uspension is defective, o r th e dynamic o r lift
mode is switched on,
• the rear-v iew camera does not provide a reliable image, for
example, in poor visib ility conditions or if the lens is dirty, •
the image on the screen is not v is ib le due to sun glare and reflec­
tion .
Caring for the rear-view camera lens:
• Dampen the lens with a household alcoho l-based glass cleaner,
a nd clean the lens wi th
a d ry cl oth.
• Remove snow w ith a hand br ush .
• Remove ice, preferab ly with de-icing spray=>

& WARNING
• The rea r-view camera does not replace the view to the rear and
the rear view mirror s.
• The rear-view camera -because of technical limitations -does
not show the entire area behind the vehicle=> page
165, fig. 182.
Be especially careful to check for small children and animals
before ba cking up . Small children and animals will not always be
shown in the r ear-view display.
• The Audi parking sys tem is not a sub stitute for being careful
and alert when backing up. Be especially careful during park ing
and similar maneuvers . Always watch where you are driving and
make sure that nothing is in the way.
• Do not allow your self to be distracted from traffi c by the rear­
view camera pictures.
• When maneuvering or parking, do not only u se the MMI
Display for orientat ion. Certa in objects -depending on the sc reen
resolution -may not, or not entirely, be di splayed ; for example
trailer hitches , chains, na rrow posts, or fences.
• Only use the rear-view camera for aid if it shows a good, clear
picture. The image may be obscured , for e xample, by the sun
shining into the len s, dirt on the len s, or a s the re sult of a defect -
danger of accident!
• If the imag e is hazy when the MMI Display is swit ched on or the
area behind the vehicle is not vis ible (for example , as the result of .,_

a dirty or defective lens) , the rear-view camera must not be used
for aid
in maneuvering -danger of a ccident!
• The rear-view camera generates two -dimensional images. For
this reason, plea se note that recesses in the ground and
p rotruding parts on anothe r vehicle , or protruding objects fi xed to
the ground , will be more difficult or impo ssible to recognize on
the MMI Display, due to the m issing spacial depth.
• If the position and the installation angle of the camera has
changed, for example, after a rear end coll ision, do not continue
to us e the system for safety reason s. Have it che cked by an autho­
r ized Audi dealer or qual ified workshop.
• Only use the rear-view camera when the rear lid is fully closed .
M ake sure that objects mounted on the rear are not obscu ring the
c amera view.
• Remove ice , preferably with de -icing spray.

• N ever use warm or hot water to remove snow or ice from the rear­
view came ra lens -d anger of cra ck fo rmat ion on the le ns!
• When cleaning the lens, never use care prod ucts with an abrasive
effect.

Setting the Driving Modes
The driving modes are set in MMI.

The ignition must be switched on to set the driving modes.
- Press the [ CAR]function button. The main menu

- Select the desired mode with the control knob .
Please note that not every driving mode can be selected in every
driving situation . For examp le, it is not possible to switch to lift mode
at speeds above 50 mph (80 km/h). This mode is shown
greyed out in
the MMI display.

Jacking Mode When Changing a Flat Tire
This mode must be activated before raising the vehicle
with a vehicle jack .
Switching jacking mod e on and off
- Select: Function button [CAR]> Adaptive Air Suspension
> function button [SETUP].

Turn the control knob to Veh icl e jac k mode and select on
or off as desired.
The vehicle jack mode must be act ivated before changing a whee l so
that the automatic control processes for the air suspension do not
make lifting with the vehicle jack more difficult.
In the veh icle jack mode the indicator light in the instrument cluster
w v illuminates.
& WARNING
The hei ght of the parked vehi cle ca n c hange due to te mp erature
fluc tu at ions or c ha ng es in l oad .
[I) Tips
The vehicle jack mode is switched off automatically at speeds above 9
mph (15 km/h). •
Towing a Trailer
Automatic lowering is not desirable when towing a
trailer.
If you are going to tow a trailer, you must activate the tra iler
towing mode .

- Select Trailer towing mode on or off as desired .

Always remember, a child seat or infant carrier insta lled on the front
sea t m ay be s truck and kno cked o ut o f p osition by the rapidl y
inflating passenge r's airbag in a frontal coll is io n. The a irbag cou ld
great ly reduce the effect iveness of the c hild restraint and even seri­
ously i njure the child dur ing inflat io n.
For this reason, and because the back seat is the safest place for chil­
dren -whe n pro perly restra ined a ccording to their age an d siz e -we
strongly recommend that childre n always sit in the back seat
=> page 23 1, "Child S afety".
& WARNING
A child in a rearward -facing child seat installed on the front
passenger seat will be seriously injured and can be killed if the
front airbag inflates - even with an Advanced Airbag System.
• The inflating airbag will hit the child seat or infant carrier with
great force and will smash the child seat and child against the
backrest, center armrest, door or roof.
• Always install rear-facing child seats on the rear seat.
• If you must install a rearward facing child seat on the front
passenger seat because of exceptional circumstances and the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not come on and stay on,
immediately install the rear-facing child seat in a rear seating
position and have the airbag system inspected by your Audi
dealer .
• Forward-facing child seats installed on the front passenger 's
seat may interfere with the deployment of the airbag and cause
serious personal injury to the child.
& WARNING
If, in exceptional circumstances, you must install a forward-f acing
child restraint on the front passenger's seat:

• Always make sure the forward-facing seat has been designed
and certified by its manufacturer for use on a front seat with a
passenger front and side airbag.
• Never put the forward -facing child restraint up aga inst or very
near the instrument panel.
• Always move the passenger seat into its rearmost position in
the seat's fore and aft adjustment range, as far away from the
airbag as possible before installing the forward-facing child
restraint. The backrest must be ad justed to an upright position.
• Make sure that the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes on
and stays on all the time whenever the ignition is switched on.
& WARNING
To reduce the risk of seriou s injury, make sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light will be displayed whenever a child re straint is installed on the front pas senger seat and the ignition
is switched on.
• If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not stay on, perform
the checks described=>
page 217, "Monitoring the Advanced
Airbag System ".
• Take the child restra int off the front passenger seat and install
it properly at one of the rear seat positions if the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not stay on .
• Have th e airbag system inspected by your Audi dealer immedi ·
ately.
• Always carefully follow instructions from child restraint manu·
facturers when installing child restraints .
& WARNING
If, in exceptional circumstances , you must install a forward or
rearward-facing child restraint on the front passenger's seat :

• move the child to a rear seat posit io n and make sure that the child

size and age .
Th e
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light sho uld NOT come on when t he
ign ition is on and an adult is sitt ing in a proper seating pos it io n on the
front passenge r seat. If the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes on
and stays on or flashes for abou t 5 seco nds w hile driving, under these
circumstances, make sure that:
• t he adult on t he fr on t p asse nger sea t is prope rly se ate d on the
center of the seat cushion with his or her back up against the backrest
and the bac krest is not recline d=> page 188, "Proper occ upant
seating posit ions",
• t he adult is n ot tak ing weig ht off t he se at by h olding on to t he
passenger assist handle above the fro nt passenger doo r or
s u pp orting their weight on the armrest,
• the safety belt is be ing properly worn and t hat there is not a lot of
s la ck in t he safe ty be lt webb ing ,
• accessory seat cove rs or cushions o r othe r th ings that may cause
an in cor rect re adin g or impress io n o n the weight -sen sing m at under
the upholstery of the seat have been removed from the front
pas senge r sea t,
• a safety be lt extender has not been left in the safety belt latch fo r
t he fr ont p asse n ge r se at.
In addition to the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light in t he center of the
instrument pa nel, the message
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF or
PASSENGER AIR BAG ON w ill b riefly appear in th e inst rume nt clus ter

display. This
is to inform the dr iver of the current front passenger
a ir bag s tatus. •
Important safety instructions on
monitoring the Advanced Airbag System
& WARNING
An airbag system that is not functioning properly cannot provide
supplemental protection in a frontal crash.
• If the airbag indicator light comes on, it means that there may
be something wrong with the Advanced Airbag System. It is possible that the airbag will inflate when it is not supposed to, or
will not inflate when it should .
• Have the airbag system inspected immediately by your Audi
dealer.
& WARNING
If the front airbag inflates, a child without a child restraint, or in
a rearward-facing child safety seat, or in a forward-facing child
restraint that has not been properly installed will be seriously
injured and can be killed .
• Even though your vehicle i s equipped with an Advanced Airbag
System, make certain that all children, especially 12 years and
younger , always ride on the back seat properly restrained for their
age and size .
• Always install forward or rear-facing child seats on the rear
seat -even with an Advanced Airbag System .
• If you must install a rearward-facing child seat on the front
passenger seat because of exceptional circumstances and the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not appear and stay on,
immediately install the rear-facing child seat in a rear seating
