make you more aware of seating positions that
are dangerous.

A WARNING
Alw ays ma ke sure that t he knee ai rbag can in ­
flate without interferen ce. Obje cts between
yourse lf and the airbag can increase the risk
of injury in an accident by interfering with the

way the airbag dep loys o r by being pushed in ­
to you as the airbag dep loys.
- No persons (chi ldren) o r anima ls should ride
in the footwell in front of the passenger
seat.
If the airbag deploys, this can resu lt in
serious or fatal injuries.
- No objects of any kind should be carried in the footwell area in front of the dr iver's or
passenger's seat . Bu lky objects (shopping
bags, for examp le) can hamper or prevent
proper dep loyment of the a irbag. Sma ll ob­
jects ca n be thrown th ro ugh t he ve hicle if
the airbag deploys a nd injur e you or your
p a sse ngers.
Pedal area
Pedals
The pedals must always be free to move and
must never be interfered with by a floor mat or
any other object.
Make sure that all pedals move free ly without in ­
terference and t hat nothing prevents them from
returning to their orig inal positions .
Only use floor mats t hat leave the pedal area free
and can be secured with floor mat fasteners.
If a bra ke circuit fails , in creased bra ke pedal trav ­
el is req uired to b ring the vehicle to a fu ll stop.
A WARNING
Pedals that cannot move freely can cause loss
of vehicle contro l and increase the risk of se ri­
ous injury .
- Never p lace any objects in the driver's foot ­
we ll. An object could get into the peda l area
and interfere with pedal funct ion. In case of
sudden b raking or an acc ident, you would
not be able to brake or acce lerate!
- Always make sure that nothing can fall or move into the driver's footwel l.

Floor mats on the driver side
Always use floor mats that can be securely at­tached to the floor mat fasteners and do not in­
terfere with the free movement of the pedals .

Use only floor mats th at leave the pedal area un­
obstructed and that are firmly secured so that
they cannot slip out of position . You can obtain
suitable floor mats from your authorized Audi Dealer .
Floor mat fasteners are installed in your Audi.
Floor mats used in your vehicle must be attached
to these fasteners. Properly securing the floor mats will prevent them from sliding into posi­
tions that could interfere with the pedals or im ­
pair safe operation of your vehicle in other ways .
A WARNING
Pedals that cannot move freely can result in a
loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of
serious personal injury.
- Always make sure that floor mats are prop­
erly secured.
- Never place or install floor mats or other
floor coverings in the vehicle that cannot be
properly secured in place to prevent them
from slipping and interfering with the ped­
als or the ability to control the vehicle.
- Never place or install floor mats or other
floor coverings on top of already installed
floor mats. Additional floor mats and other coverings will reduce the size of the pedal
area and interfere with the pedals.
- Always properly reinstall and secure floor
mats that have been taken out for cleaning.
- Always make sure that objects cannot fall
into the driver footwell while the vehicle is
moving. Objects can become trapped under
the brake pedal and accelerator pedal caus­ ing a loss of vehicle control.

Stowing luggage
Loading the luggage compartment
All luggage and other objects must be properly
stowed and secured in the luggage compart­
ment.
Loose items in the luggage compartment can
shift suddenly, changing vehicle handling charac ­
teristics . Loose items can also increase the risk of
serious personal injury in a sudden vehicle ma­
neuver or in a collision.
... Distribute the load evenly in the luggage com­
partment .
... Always place and properly secure heavy items in
the luggage compartment as far forward as
possible .

partment using the tie-down eyelets and
suitable straps .

Heavy loads will influence the way your vehi­
cle handles. To help reduce the risk of a loss
of control leading to serious personal injury:
- Always keep in mind when transporting
heavy objects, that a change in the center of
gravity can also cause changes in vehicle
handling:
- Always distribute the load as evenly as
possible.
- Place heavy objects as far forward in the
luggage compartment as possible.
- Never exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating or the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating specified

Catal ytic conve rt er
The vehicle may on ly be driven with unleaded
gasoline, otherwise the catalyt ic converter will be
destroyed.
Never drive until the tank is completely empty.
The irregular supply of f uel that results from that
can cause engine m isfires. Uncombusted fuel will
enter the exhaust system, wh ich can cause over­
heat ing and damage to the catalyt ic converter .
A WARNING
The temperature of the exhaust system is
high, both when d riving and after stopping
the engine.
-
- Never touch the exhaust tail pipes once they
have become ho t. This could result in bu rns.
- Do not park your vehicle ove r flammable
materials such as g rass or leaves because
the high temperat ure of the em iss ions con­
trol system co uld s tart a fire.
- Do not apply underbody p rotectant in the
exha ust system area, because this inc reases
the risk of fi re.
On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
The On -Board Diagnostic System monitors the
engine and transmission components that influ­
ence emissions.

Indicator light
If thP ¢'4 ind icator light blinks or turns on, there
is a ma lf u nction that is caus ing poo r emissions
quality and that cou ld damage the catalytic con­
verter .
Drive slowly to an a uthorized Aud i dea ler or au­
t h orized Audi Serv ice Facili ty to have t he mal­
f unct ion corrected.
A WARNING ..
Incorrect use of the connection port for the
On-Board D iagnostic System can cause ma l­
f u nctions, which can then result in accidents
and serious injuries.
- Only allow an authorized Audi dea ler or au­
thor ized Audi Service Fac ility to read out the
engine data.
Engine compartment
Working in the engine compartment
Special care is required if you are working in the
engine compartment
-
F o r work in the engine compa rtment such as
checking and fill ing fl uids , there i s a risk of in­
jury , scalding, accident s, and b urn s. For thi s
re ason , follow all the warnings and general
safety pre cautions prov ided in the following
in ­
formati on. The engine compartm ent i s a dan­
gerou s area .

A WARNING
-----Turn the engine off.
- Sw itch the igni tio n off.
- Set the parking brake.
- P lace the se lector lever in the P position.
-Let the eng ine cool down.
-Never open the hood when there is steam or
coolant escaping from the engine compart­
ment, because there is a risk that you could

be burned. Wait until no steam or coolant is
escaping.
- Keep children away from the engine com ­
partment.
- Never spill fluids on a hot engine . These flu ­
ids (such as the freeze protection contained
in the coolant) can catch fire.
- Avoid short circuits in the e lectrica l system,
especially to the battery.
- When working in the engine compartment,
remember that the radiator fan can switch
on even if the ign ition is switched off, which
increases the risk of personal in jury.
- Never open the cap on the coolant expan­
sion tank when the eng ine is warm. The
cooling system is under pressure.
- To protect your face, hands, and arms from hot steam or coolant, cover the cap with a
large cloth when opening.
- Do not remove the engine cover under any circumstances. This increases the risk of
burns .
- If tests need to be performed w ith the en­
gine ru nning, there is additional danger due
to moving components (such as the ribbed
belt, a lter nator and radiator fa n) and from
the high-voltage ign it io n system.
- Do not press the accelerator pedal inadver­
tent ly if a gear is selected when the veh icle
is sta tionary and the eng ine is ru nning. Oth­
erwise, the veh icle w ill start to move imme ­
diately and t his co uld r esult in an a ccid en t.
- Pay attention to the fo llow ing warnings list­
ed whe n wo rk on the fuel system or on the
electri cal eq uipment is requ ired.
- Do not smoke.
- Never work near open flames.
- Always have a working fire extinguisher
nearby.
- All work on the battery or e lectrica l system
in yo ur vehicle can res ult in injuries, chemi­
ca l burns, accidents or burns. Because of
t h is, all wor k must be performed
only by an
autho rized Aud i dealer or authorized Aud i
Service Facility .
- To reduce the risk of electric shock and in­
jury , never touch the following components

ed:
- Ig nition cable
- Other compone nts in the electron ic high-
vo ltage ig nition system
- If you must check or perform work on the
eng ine wh ile it is ru nning:
- Set the pa rking brake and p lace the selec ­
tor lever in the P (par k) position fi rst .
- Alw ays proceed w ith ext reme cau tion so
t h at clothing, jewelry or long hair do not
become ca ught in the radiator fan, fan
belt or other moving components or do
not come into contact with hot compo ­
nents. Tie back long hair before begin ning
work and do not wear clothing that can
hang dow n into the eng ine .
- Lim it your exposure to exhaust and chemi­
cals to as short a time as possible

Wheels
Because the spare tire* is differ­
ent from the regular tires instal­ led on the vehicle (such as winter
tires or wide tires), only use the
spare tire* temporarily in case of
emergency and drive carefully
while it is in use. It should be re­ placed with a regular tire as soon
as possible.
Applies to: vehicles with all wheel
drive: all four wheels must be
equipped with tires that are the
same brand and have the same
construction and tread pattern so
that the drive system is not dam­
aged by different wheel speeds.
For this reason, in case of emer­
gency, only use a spare tire* that
is the same circumference as the
regular tires.
& WARNING ~ -
-Only use tire/rim combina­
tions and suitable wheel bolts
that have been approved by
Audi. Otherwise, damage to
the vehicle and an accident could result.
-For technical reasons, it is not
possible to use tires from oth­
er vehicles - in some cases,
you cannot even use tires from
the same vehicle model.

-Make sure that the tires you
select have enough clearance
to the vehicle. Replacement
tires should not be chosen simply based on the nominal
size, because tires with a dif­
ferent construction can differ greatly even if they are the
same size. If there is not
enough clearance, the tires or
the vehicle can be damaged and this can reduce driving
safety and increase the risk of
an accident.
-Only use tires that are more
than six years old when abso­
lutely necessary and drive
carefully when doing so.
-Do not use run-flat tires on
your vehicle. Using them when not permitted can lead to ve­
hicle damage or accidents.
- If you install wheel covers on
the vehicle, make sure they al­ low enough air circulation to
cool the brake system. If they
do not, this could increase the
risk of an accident.
