Power top
General information
The power top opens and closes automat ica lly .
When open , the power top is stored completely
in the power top compartment . The power top
can be opened or closed at speeds up to 30 mph (SO km/h).
Under normal conditions , the power top is wind ­
and waterproof. In rare cases, small droplets of
water may form under ext reme weather condi­
tions such as torrential or prolonged rain. That is normal and no cause for conc ern .
F ollow the care instruct ions to keep the power
top free of leaks and to maintain its appearance
9 page 266, Care and cleaning . Also observe the
following:
- Open and stow the power top only when it is
clean and dry . Stowing the power top when it is
damp can create imprints in it, and if it is left
that way for long periods of time, mi ldew and
other damage can fo rm . T o prevent scratch ing
or damaging the power top, do not use any
sharp-edged objects to remove ice and snow .
The rear window may be cleared w ith a stand ­
ard ice scraper .
- Do not leave the power top open for several
weeks or the creases in it may become discol­ ored .
- Do not open the power top when the tempera ­
ture is below 32 °F (0 °C) . The fabric in the
power top loses elast icity in s ub-zero tempe ra­
tu res .

.. Switch the ignition on.
.. To open or close the power top , pu ll/press and
hold the button during the entire process .
Opening/cl osi ng the power top u sing the
one-touch function
.. Switch the ignit ion on .
.. To open/close the power top all the way, briefly
pull/press the power top switch . It is not neces­
sary to ho ld the switch . The one-touch funct io n
is only avai lab le at speeds between 4 mph (6
km/h) and 30 mph (SO km/h).
The status of the power top is shown in the in­ strument cluster when operating the powe r top
switch .
A message will appear in the instrument cluster
if the power top cannot be opened or closed

A WARNING
-When operating the power top, make s ure
the func tion is not affected by wind or other
factors and that it does not interfere with
other drivers .
- Neve r drive when the power top is not
locked cor rect ly . The wind from driving
could cause the power top to open . This can
result in injuries and damage to the vehicle .
-Make sure no one will be injured by the pow­
er top supports and othe r moving compo­
nents when opening and closing the top.

Beverage containers in the cup holders should
always have a lid. If not, beverages could spill
and cause damage to vehicle equipment, such
electronics or seat covers.
Additional storage compartments
You will find a range of storage compartments
and holders at different locations in the veh icle .
- Compartments in the doors
- Storage area in the glove compartment . The
glove compartment can be locked using the
mechan ica l key
q page 23.
- Storage compartment under the center arm­
rest*
- Storage compartment on the rear side of the
seat* . The compartment can hold a max imum
weight of 2.2 lbs (1 kg).
A WARNING
-Always leave the lid on the glove compart­
ment cover closed while driving to reduce
the risk of injury.
- Only use the storage compartments in the door trim panels to store small objects that
will not st ic k out of the compa rtment and
impair the range of the side a irbags.

Driving
When parking on a level surface, simply place the
selector lever in the "P" position. On inclines, ac­
tivate the parking brake first and then move the
selector lever to the "P " position
c> page 61 . This
prevents the locking mechanism from being
loaded too heavily and will make it easier to
move the selector lever out of the "P" position.
A WARNING
- The vehicle can roll even when the engine is
switched off .
- Unintended vehicle movement can lead to
serious injuries.
- Never leave your vehicle with the engine
running while in gear . If you must leave
your vehicle when the engine is running, set
the parking brake and move the selector lev­
er to the P position.
- Power is still transferred to the wheels
when the engine is running at idle. To pre­
vent the vehicle from "creeping", you must
keep your foot on the brake when the en­
gine is running and the selector lever is in
the "D" , "S" or "R" position or "tiptronic"
mode is selected.
- Do not inadvertently press the accelerator
pedal when the vehicle is stationary. Other­
wise the vehicle will start to move immedi­
ately, even if the parking brake is set . This
could result in a crash .
- Do not press the accelerator pedal when
changing the selector lever position while
the vehicle is stationary and the engine is
running .
- Never engage the R or P selector level posi­
tions while driving. It could cause a crash .
- Before driving down a steep slope, reduce
your speed and shift into a lower gear with
"ti ptron i c" .
- Do not ride the brakes or press the brake
pedal too often or too long when driving
downhill. Constant braking causes the
brakes to overheat and substantially re­
duces braking performance, increases brak­
ing distance or causes complete failure of
the brake system.
- If you must stop on an incline, always hold
the vehicle in place with the foot brake or

parking brake to prevent it from rolling
back .
- Never hold the vehicle on an incline with a
slipping clutch. The clutch opens automati­
cally when it becomes too hot from the
overload. The
ml indicator light turns on
and a message appears
c> page 68 when
the clutch is overloaded .
- If the engine must run while you are work­
ing in the engine compartment with the
hood open, make sure a gear is not engag­
ed. The selector lever must be firmly in the
P position and locked in place and the park­
ing brake must be set
c> page 233. Other­
wise, the vehicle could begin moving when
increasing the engine speed, even with the
parking brake set.
@ Note
- When stopping on an incline, do not try to
hold the vehicle in place by pressing the ac­
celerator pedal while a driving gear is se­
lected. This can cause the automatic trans­
mission to overheat and can damage it. Set
the parking brake or press the brake pedal
to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
- Allowing the vehicle to roll when the engine
is stopped and the selector lever is in the N
position will damage the automatic trans­
mission because it is not lubricated under
those circumstances.
- The transmission can overheat and be dam­
aged under certain driving and traffic condi­
tions such as frequent starts, creeping for a
long time , or stop-and-go traffic . When the
ml or. indicator light turns on, stop the
vehicle at the next opportunity and let the
transmission cool

- Allowing the vehicle to roll when the engine
is stopped will damage the S tronic trans­
mission because it is not lubricated
c> page 285, Towing with a tow truck .
(D Tips
For safety reasons, the parking brake is re­
leased automatically only when the driver's
safety belt is fastened.

If the ve hicle must be pushed or towed due to a
power failure (for example, the battery is dead),
the selector lever must first be moved to the N position us ing the emergency release mecha­
n ism .
A WARNING
-Only activate the emergency release while
on a level su rface or a slight slope.
- Only move the selector lever out of the "P" pos it ion when the parking brake is set. If it
is not funct ioning, secu re the vehicle from
rolling using the b rake pedal o r othe r su ita­
ble means, such as bloc king a front and a
rear whee l. An unsecured veh icle may roll
away, which increases the risk of an acci­
dent.
Trailer towing
General information
Your Audi TT Roadster is not designed to tow a
trailer .
-
Towing a trailer w ith your Aud i TI Roadster is not
recommended and can cause damage to the car .
Damaged caused by tow ing a trailer is not cov­
ered by your Audi Warranty .

Floor mats on the driver side
Always use floor mats that can be securely at­tached to the floor mat fasteners and do not in­
terfere with the free movement of the pedals .

Use only floor mats th at leave the pedal area un­
obstructed and that are firmly secured so that
they cannot slip out of position . You can obtain
suitable floor mats from your authorized Audi Dealer .
Floor mat fasteners are installed in your Audi.
Floor mats used in your vehicle must be attached
to these fasteners. Properly securing the floor mats will prevent them from sliding into posi­
tions that could interfere with the pedals or im ­
pair safe operation of your vehicle in other ways .
A WARNING
Pedals that cannot move freely can result in a
loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of
serious personal injury.
- Always make sure that floor mats are prop­
erly secured.
- Never place or install floor mats or other
floor coverings in the vehicle that cannot be
properly secured in place to prevent them
from slipping and interfering with the ped­
als or the ability to control the vehicle.
- Never place or install floor mats or other
floor coverings on top of already installed
floor mats. Additional floor mats and other coverings will reduce the size of the pedal
area and interfere with the pedals.
- Always properly reinstall and secure floor
mats that have been taken out for cleaning.
- Always make sure that objects cannot fall
into the driver footwell while the vehicle is
moving. Objects can become trapped under
the brake pedal and accelerator pedal caus­ ing a loss of vehicle control.
Safe driving
Stowing luggage
Loading the luggage compartment
All luggage and other objects must be properly
stowed and secured in the luggage compart­
ment.
Loose items in the luggage compartment can
shift suddenly, changing vehicle handling charac ­
teristics . Loose items can also increase the risk of
serious personal injury in a sudden vehicle ma­
neuver or in a collision.
... Distribute the load evenly in the luggage com­
partment .
... Always place and properly secure heavy items in
the luggage compartment as far forward as
possible .
... Secure luggage using the tie-downs provided
qpage 184.
A WARNING ~ -
Improperly stored luggage or other items can
fly through the vehicle causing serious per­
sonal injury in the event of hard braking or an
accident. To help reduce the risk of serious
personal injury:
- Always put objects, for example, luggage or
other heavy items in the luggage compart ­
ment.
- Always secure objects in the luggage com­
partment using the tie-down eyelets and
suitable straps .
A WARNING
-
Heavy loads will influence the way your vehi­
cle handles. To help reduce the risk of a loss
of control leading to serious personal injury:
- Always keep in mind when transporting
heavy objects, that a change in the center of
gravity can also cause changes in vehicle
handling:
- Always distribute the load as evenly as
possible.
- Place heavy objects as far forward in the
luggage compartment as possible.
- Never exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating or the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating specified

Steps for Determining Correct Load Limit
1. Locate the statement "THE
COMBINED WEIGHT OF OCCU­PANTS AND CARGO SHOULD
NEVER EXCEED XXX KG OR XXX
LBS" on your vehicle's placard
(tire inflation pressure label)

2. Determine the combined
weight of the driver and pas­
sengers that will be riding in
your vehicle.
3 . Subtract the combined weight
of the driver and passengers
from
"XXX " kilograms or "XXX"
pounds shown on the sticker
c:> page 254 , fig. 189 .
4. The resulting figure equals the
available amount of cargo and
luggage load capacity. For ex­
ample, if the
" XXX" amount
equals 1400 lbs and there will be five 150 lbs passengers in
your vehicle, the amount of available cargo and luggage load capacity is 650 lbs
(1400-750 (5
X 150) = 650 lbs)
5 . Determine the combined
weight of luggage and cargo
being loaded on the vehicle.
That weight may not safely ex­
ceed the available cargo and

Emergency situations
General
This chapter is intended for trained emergency
crews and working personnel who have the nec­
essary tools and equipment to perform these
operations.
Starting by pushing or
towing
~ Note
Vehicles with an automatic transmission can­
not be started by pushing or towing.
Starting with jumper
cables
If necessary, the engine can be started by con­
necting it to the battery of another vehicle .
If the engine should fail to start because of a dis­
charged or weak battery, the battery can be con­
nected to the battery of
another vehicle, using a
pair of jumper cables to start the engine.
Jumper cables
Use only jumper cables of sufficiently large cross
section
to carry the starter current safely. Refer
to the manufacturer's specifications.
Use only jumper cables with
insulated terminal
clamps which are distinctly marked :
plus(+) cable in most cases colored red
minus(-) cable
in most cases colored black.
A WARNING -
Batteries contain electricity, acid, and gas.
Any of these can cause very serious or fatal in­
jury. Follow the instructions below for safe
handling of your vehicle's battery .
-Always shield your eyes and avoid leaning
over the battery whenever possible.
-A dead battery can freeze at temperatures
around 32 °F (0 °C) . If the vehicle battery is
frozen, you must thaw it before connecting
the jump start cables. If you do not, this in-

creases the risk of an explosion and chemi­
cal burns. After jump starting the vehicle,
drive to an authorized Audi dealer or author­ ized Audi Service Facility immediately to
have the vehicle battery checked.
- Do not allow battery acid to contact eyes or
skin . Flush any contacted area with water
immediately.
- Improper use of a booster battery to start a
vehicle may cause an explosion .
- Vehicle batteries generate explosive gases .
Keep sparks, flame and lighted cigarettes
away from batteries.
- Do not try to jump start any vehicle with a
low acid level in the battery .
- The voltage of the booster battery must also
have a 12-Volt rating . The capacity (Ah) of
the booster battery should not be lower
than that of the discharged battery. Use of
batteries of different voltage or substantial­
ly different "Ah " rating may cause an explo­
sion and personal injury.
- Never charge a frozen battery. Gas trapped
in the ice may cause an explosion.
- Never charge or use a battery that has been
frozen. The battery case may have be weak­
ened.
- Use of batteries of different voltage or sub­
stantially different capacity (Ah) rating may
cause an explosion and injury. The capacity
(Ah) of the booster battery should not be
lower than that of the discharged battery.
- Before you check anything in the engine
compartment, always read and heed all
WARNINGS
c>page 233.
@ Note
- Applying a higher voltage booster battery
will cause expensive damage to sensitive
electronic components, such as control
units, relays, radio, etc.
- There must be no electrical contact between
the vehicles as otherwise current could al­
ready start to flow as soon as the positive
( + ) terminals are connected.

-When connecting jumper cables, make sure
that they cannot get ca ught in any mov ing
parts in the engine compartment.
- Do not bend over the batteries - danger of
chem ica l burns!
- The battery cell lock ing screws must be
t ightened sec ure ly.
- Be fore you check anything in the e ngine
compartment, a lways read and hee d all

being jump starte d. When you are giv ing a
ju mp s ta rt to anothe r vehicle, do
not con­
n ect the neg ative (-) cab le to the neg ative
(-) t ermin al on the di sch arged b attery @

nega tive ( -) cab le to either a solid me tal
com ponent that is f irm ly bolted to the e n­
gine block o r to the engine bloc k itself. If
the battery that is be ing cha rge d does not
vent to the outs ide, escap ing battery gas

Towing with a tow truck

Your Audi requires special handling for towi ng .
The fo llow ing information is to be used by com ­
mercia l tow tr uck operators who know how to op-

-Never wrap the safety chains or winch cables
around the brake lines .
- To prevent unnecessa ry damage , your Audi
must be transported with a flatbed truck.
- To load the vehicle on to the flatbed, use the
towing loop found in the vehicle tools and at­
tach to the front or rear anchorage
¢ page 285 and ¢ page 286 .
A WARNING
-A veh icle being towed is not safe for passen-
ge rs. Neve r allow anyone to ride in a vehicle
b eing towed, fo r any r eason.

stalled.

.,. Tighten the towing loop in the threaded open­
ing until it stops and then tighten it with a

If the towing loop is not tightened until it
stops when installing, the threads may be
pulled out when tow ing the vehicle and that
cou ld cause an accident.
