CD only functions when the ignition is
sw itched on. To prevent engine damage, p lease
observe the following notes about the tempera­
ture ranges.
Cold range
If on ly the LEDs in the left area of the gauge turn
on, the engine has not reached operating tem­ perature yet. Avoid high engine speeds, full ac­
celerating and heavy engine loads .
Normal range
The engine has reached its operating tempera­
ture once the LEDs up to the center of the gauge
turn on. If
the . indicator light in the Infotain­
ment system display turns on, the coolant tem­
perature is too high

(I;} Note
-Aux iliary head lights and other accessories in
front of the cooling-air intake impair the
cooling effect of the coolant. This increases
the risk of the engine overheating during
high outside temperatures and heavy en ­
gine load.
- The front spoiler also helps to distribute
cooling air correctly while driving. If the
spoiler is damaged, the cooling effect will
be impaired and the risk of the engine over­
heating w ill increase. See an authorized
Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service Fa ­
cility for assistance .
Fuel level
The indicator@ only func tions when the ignition
i s sw itched on. If the fuel level drops below 1.9
gal (7
L), a red LED will light up and the rD indi­
cator light will turn on

blinks red when the fuel level is very low.

Instruments and indicator lights
If th e indicator lig ht blinks and t he message ap ­
pea rs, there is not eno ugh bra king power to se ­
cure the vehicle . The brakes have overheated. The

You can control the functions through the dial,
buttons in the dial and the buttons . Press the
buttons to turn the functions on or off. The LED i n a button w ill light up when the funct ion is
sw itched on.
Pressing the
IAU TO ! button and setting the tem­
pe rature to 72
°F (22 °() is recommended. The
automatic climate control system automatically
maintains a temperature once it has been set .
The a ir tempe rature coming from the vents, the
b lower speed, and the a ir dis tribution are a lso
automatically a djusted . In all heati ng mode func­
tions except
defrost, the blower only switches to
a higher speed once the engine coolant has reached a certain temperat ure.
~ Adjusting the blower
The blower speed can be adjusted in small inc re­
ments using the
dial (!). The b lower should a l­
ways run at a low setting to prevent the windows
from fogging and to ensure a continuous ex­
change of air ins ide the vehicle. You can adjust
the volume of a ir generated by the blower to your
preference. To have the blower regulated auto­
mat ically, press the
IAU TOI butto n.
IA/C l Switching cooling mode on and off
The cooling system is turned on and off w ith the
IA/C l button. The air is not coo led and humidity is
not removed when cooling mode is switched off.

This can cause fog on the w indows. Coo ling mode
switches off automatically when the outside tem­
perature is below zero.
The temperature can be adjusted with the con ­

IAUTO I Switching automatic mode on and off
The automatic mode is turned on using the
IAUTOI button. AUTO mode switches off once a
button in the climate cont rol system is pressed.
Automat ic mode maintains a constant tempera ­
ture inside the vehicle . Air temperature, airflow
and air distribution are controlled automatically.
Adjusting the air distribution
The air distribution can be adjusted w ith the con­
tro l@ . To have the air d istribu tion regulated au­
tomatica lly, press the
I AUTO l button.

To keep the front side windows from fogg ing up
i n damp weather, we recommend ope ning the
s ide a ir vents a nd tilting them to the side.

-Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop.
- The brake booster and power steering only
work when the engine is running. If the en­ gine is off, you have to use more force when
steering or braking. Because you cannot
steer and brake as you usually would, this
could lead to accidents and serious injuries.
@ Note
Avoid high engine speed, full throttle, and
heavy engine load if the engine has not
reached operating temperature yet. You could
damage the engine.
@ For the sake of the environment
Do not let the engine run while parked to
warm up. Begin driving immediately . This re­
duces unnecessary emissions.
(D Tips
-Some noise after starting the engine is nor­
mal and is no cause for concern.
- If you leave the vehicle with the ignition
switched on, the ignition will switch off af­
ter a certain amount of time. Make sure that
electrical equipment such as the exterior
lights are switched off.
Stopping the engine
.,. Bring the vehicle to a full stop.
.,. Move the selector lever into the P position .
... Press the I START ENGINE STOPI button.
Emergency off function*
If it is absolutely necessary, the engine can also
be turned off while driving at speeds starting at
4 mph (7 km/h). To switch the engine off, press
the
I START ENGINE STOPI button twice in a row
br iefly or press and hold for longer than two sec­
onds.
A WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
Driving
-Please note that the brake booster and pow­
er steering only work when the engine is
running. When the engine off, you must use
more force to steer or brake the vehicle. Be­
cause the usual steering and braking capa­
bility is not available, the risk of accidents or
. . . . mJunes increases.
-For safety reasons, always park the vehicle
with the selector lever in the P position.
Otherwise, there is the risk that the vehicle
could roll.
- After the engine has been switched off, the
radiator fan can continue to run for up to 10
minutes
-even with the ignition switched
off. It can also switch on again after some
time if the coolant temperature rises as the result of heat buildup or if the engine is al­
ready warm and the engine compartment is
also heated by the sun's rays.
@ Note
If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period of time, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the
engine is
switched off and there is a risk of damaging
the engine . For this reason, let the engine run
at idle for approximately two minutes before
shutting it off.
(D Tips
For up to 10 minutes after stopping the en­
gine, the radiator fan may turn on again auto­ matically or it may continue to run (even if
the ignition is switched off) for the following
reasons :
- The coolant temperature is increasing due
to trapped heat.
- If the engine is warm and the engine com­
partment also heats up from strong sun­
light.
Messages
Turn off ignition before leaving vehicle. Battery

Catal ytic conve rt er
The vehicle may on ly be driven with unleaded
gasoline, otherwise the catalyt ic converter will be
destroyed.
Never drive until the tank is completely empty.
The irregular supply of f uel that results from that
can cause engine m isfires. Uncombusted fuel will
enter the exhaust system, wh ich can cause over­
heat ing and damage to the catalyt ic converter .
A WARNING
The temperature of the exhaust system is
high, both when d riving and after stopping
the engine.
-
- Never touch the exhaust tail pipes once they
have become ho t. This could result in bu rns.
- Do not park your vehicle ove r flammable
materials such as g rass or leaves because
the high temperat ure of the em iss ions con­
trol system co uld s tart a fire.
- Do not apply underbody p rotectant in the
exha ust system area, because this inc reases
the risk of fi re.
On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
The On -Board Diagnostic System monitors the
engine and transmission components that influ­
ence emissions.

Indicator light
If thP ¢'4 ind icator light blinks or turns on, there
is a ma lf u nction that is caus ing poo r emissions
quality and that cou ld damage the catalytic con­
verter .
Drive slowly to an a uthorized Aud i dea ler or au­
t h orized Audi Serv ice Facili ty to have t he mal­
f unct ion corrected.
A WARNING ..
Incorrect use of the connection port for the
On-Board D iagnostic System can cause ma l­
f u nctions, which can then result in accidents
and serious injuries.
- Only allow an authorized Audi dea ler or au­
thor ized Audi Service Fac ility to read out the
engine data.
Engine compartment
Working in the engine compartment
Special care is required if you are working in the
engine compartment
-
F o r work in the engine compa rtment such as
checking and fill ing fl uids , there i s a risk of in­
jury , scalding, accident s, and b urn s. For thi s
re ason , follow all the warnings and general
safety pre cautions prov ided in the following
in ­
formati on. The engine compartm ent i s a dan­
gerou s area .

A WARNING
-----Turn the engine off.
- Sw itch the igni tio n off.
- Set the parking brake.
- P lace the se lector lever in the P position.
-Let the eng ine cool down.
-Never open the hood when there is steam or
coolant escaping from the engine compart­
ment, because there is a risk that you could

be burned. Wait until no steam or coolant is
escaping.
- Keep children away from the engine com ­
partment.
- Never spill fluids on a hot engine . These flu ­
ids (such as the freeze protection contained
in the coolant) can catch fire.
- Avoid short circuits in the e lectrica l system,
especially to the battery.
- When working in the engine compartment,
remember that the radiator fan can switch
on even if the ign ition is switched off, which
increases the risk of personal in jury.
- Never open the cap on the coolant expan­
sion tank when the eng ine is warm. The
cooling system is under pressure.
- To protect your face, hands, and arms from hot steam or coolant, cover the cap with a
large cloth when opening.
- Do not remove the engine cover under any circumstances. This increases the risk of
burns .
- If tests need to be performed w ith the en­
gine ru nning, there is additional danger due
to moving components (such as the ribbed
belt, a lter nator and radiator fa n) and from
the high-voltage ign it io n system.
- Do not press the accelerator pedal inadver­
tent ly if a gear is selected when the veh icle
is sta tionary and the eng ine is ru nning. Oth­
erwise, the veh icle w ill start to move imme ­
diately and t his co uld r esult in an a ccid en t.
- Pay attention to the fo llow ing warnings list­
ed whe n wo rk on the fuel system or on the
electri cal eq uipment is requ ired.
- Do not smoke.
- Never work near open flames.
- Always have a working fire extinguisher
nearby.
- All work on the battery or e lectrica l system
in yo ur vehicle can res ult in injuries, chemi­
ca l burns, accidents or burns. Because of
t h is, all wor k must be performed
only by an
autho rized Aud i dealer or authorized Aud i
Service Facility .
- To reduce the risk of electric shock and in­
jury , never touch the following components

when t he engine is runni ng or is being start ­
ed:
- Ig nition cable
- Other compone nts in the electron ic high-
vo ltage ig nition system
- If you must check or perform work on the
eng ine wh ile it is ru nning:
- Set the pa rking brake and p lace the selec ­
tor lever in the P (par k) position fi rst .
- Alw ays proceed w ith ext reme cau tion so
t h at clothing, jewelry or long hair do not
become ca ught in the radiator fan, fan
belt or other moving components or do
not come into contact with hot compo ­
nents. Tie back long hair before begin ning
work and do not wear clothing that can
hang dow n into the eng ine .
- Lim it your exposure to exhaust and chemi­
cals to as short a time as possible

The hood is released from inside the vehicle.

Make sure the w iper arms are not raised up from
the windshield. Otherwise the pa int could be
damaged .
Checking and Filling
Opening the hood
... With t he driver's door open, pull the lever be­
low the inst rument pane l in the direction of the
arrow ¢ fig. 178 .
... Raise the hood slightly ¢.&, .
... Press the lever¢ fig. 179 in the direction of the
arrow. Th is releases the hooks .
... Open the hood .
Closing the hood
... Push the hood down unti l yo u override the
force of the struts .
... Let the hood fall lightly into the latch. Do not
press it in.

A WARNING
--Never open the hood when there is steam or
coolant escaping from the engine compart­
ment, because there is a risk that you could
be burned. Wait unt il no steam or coolan t is
escapi ng.
- F or safety reasons, the hood m ust always be
closed securely while driving. Because of
this, always che ck the hoo d after closing it
to make sure it is latched correct ly. The
hood is latched if the front corners cannot
be lifted.
-If you notice that the hood is not latched
while you are driving, stop immediately and
close it, because driving when the hood is not latched increases the r isk of an accident.

lubricating properties of oil diminish gradually
during normal vehicle use.
Unde r some c ircu mstances the eng ine o il should
be changed more frequently . Change oil mo re of­
ten if you drive most ly short distances, ope rate
the vehicle in dusty areas or under predominant ly
stop-and -go traffic condit ions, or have your vehi­
cle where temperatures remain below free zing
for extended periods.
Detergent additives in the oil will make fresh oil
l ook dark after the engine has been running for a
short time. Th is is normal and is not a reason to
change the oil more often than recommended.
Because of the problem of proper disposa l, along
with the special tools and necessary expertise re­
qu ired, we strongly recommend that you have
your oil changed by an authorized
A ud i de ale r or
a qualified service station .
If you c hoo se to change your o il y our self , please
note the following important information:
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury if you
must change the engine oil in your veh icle
yourself:
- Wear eye protection .
- To reduce the risk of burns from hot engine oil, let the eng ine cool down to the touch.
-
- When removing the o il drain plug with your
fingers, stay as far away as poss ible. A lways
keep your forearm paralle l to the ground to
help prevent hot o il from runn ing down your
arm .
- Drai n the oil into a container designed for
this pu rpose, one large enough to hold at
least the total amount of oil in your e ng ine .
- Engine oil is poisonous . Keep it well out of
the reach of ch ild ren .
- Cont inuous contact w ith used eng ine oi l is
harmful to your sk in. A lways protect your
sk in by washing oil off thoroug hly w ith soap
and water.
@ Note
Never mix oil addit ives with your engine o il.
These additives ca n damage your eng ine and

adverse ly affect yo ur Audi Limited New Vehi­
cle Warranty.
@ For the sake of the environment
- Before chang ing yo ur oil, first make sure
you know where you can proper ly d ispose o f
the used oi l.
- Always dispose of used engine o il properly.
Do not dump it on garden soil, wooded
areas, into open streams or down sewage
drains.
- Recycle used engine oi l by taking it to a used
engine oi l collection faci lity in you r area, or
contact a service station .
Cooling system
Coolant
The eng ine cooling system is fi lled w it h a m ixtu re
of purified water and coo lant additive at the fac ­
tory . This coolant must not be not c hanged.

mend occasionally checking the coolant leve l
manua lly.
If you must add coolant, use a mixture of wate r
and coolant additive . Mix ing t he coo lant add it ive
with dis tilled water is recommended.
Coolant additive
T he coolant add itive is made of anti-free zing and
cor rosion protect ion agents. On ly use the follow­
i ng coolant additives . These add itives may be
mixed wi th ea ch o the r.

The amount of coolant additive that needs to be
mixed with water depends on the cl imate where
the vehicle w ill be oper ated. If the coo lant add i­
t ive percentage is too low, the coolant can freeze
and damage the eng ine .

- Before the start of winter, have an author­ ized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service
Facility check if the coolant additive in your
vehicle matches the percentage appropriate
for the climate. Th is is especially important
when driving in co lder climates.
- If the appropriate coolant additive is not
available in an emergency, do not add any
other additive . You cou ld damage the en­
gine.
If t his happens, only use wate r and re­
store the correct mixture ratio with the
specified coolant additive as soon as possi­
ble .
- Only refill with new coo lant.
- Radiato r sealant must not be mixed w ith
the coo lant .

Coolant loss usually ind icates there is a leak. Im­
mediate ly dr ive your vehicle to a n author ized
Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service Fac il ity
and have the cooling system inspected. If the
cooling system is not lea king , a loss can come
from the coolant boiling through overheat ing
and being pushed ou t of the cooling system .
Lil WARNING
- The cooling system is under pressure. Do
not open the coo lant expansion tank cap
when the engine is hot. This increases the risk of burns.
-The coolant additive and the coolant can be dangerous to your health. For this reason ,
keep the coolant in the original container
and away from children. There is a risk of
poisoning.
-When working in the engine compartment,
remember that the radiator fan can switch
on even if the ignition is switched
off, wh ich
increases the r is k of injury.
@ Note
Do not add coolant if the expans ion tank is
empty . A ir could enter the cooling system and

Aspect ratio
means the ratio of the height to
the width of the tire in percent .

means the part of the tire that is
made of steel wires , wrapped or
reinfo rced by ply cords and that is
shaped to fit the rim .
Bead separation
means a breakdown of the bond
between components in the bead .
Cord
means the strands forming the
plies in the tire.
Cold tire inflation pressure
means the t ire pressure recom­
mended by the vehic le manufac­
turer for a tire of a designated

pressure is measured or adjusted .
Curb weight
means the weight of a motor ve­
hicle with standar d equipment in ­
c luding the maximum capacity of
f u el, oi l, and coolant, air condi ­
tioning and additional weight of

Extra load ti re
means a t ire designed to operate
at higher loads and at higher in ­
flation pressures than the corre­
sponding s tandard tire. Extra load
ti res may be identified as

Gross Axle Weight Rating
(" GAWR ")
means the load -carrying capacity
of a single axle system, measured
