CHECKING LEVELS
Check all of these levels regularly
and top them up if necessary, unless
otherwise indicated.

corresponding system checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
Oil level

The oil must correspond to your en-
gine and conform to the manufactur-
er’s recommendations.
Brake fluid level

T h i s fl u i d m u s t b e c h a n g e d r e g u -
larly. Fluid which has been used for
too long may cause a loss of braking
e f fi c i e n c y .

Coolant level
Draining the circuit
The coolant does not have to be
changed.
F l u i d s p e c i fi c a t i o n
The coolant must conform to the
manufacturer’s recommendations.
The reading will only be
correct if the vehicle is on
level ground and the engine
has been off for more than
15 minutes.
The check is carried out either when
the ignition is switched on using the
oil level indicator on the instrument
panel, or using the dipstick.
Between two oil changes, the con-
sumption should not exceed 0.5 litre
per 600 miles (approx. 1 000 km).
Check this level also between each
scheduled service and before long
journeys. T h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l s h o u l d
be close to the "MAX" mark.
If it is not, check the brake
pad wear.
The coolant level should be
close to the "MAX" mark but
should never exceed it.
When the engine is warm,
the temperature of the coolant is
regulated by the fan. This can oper-
ate with the ignition off.
O n v e h i c l e s w h i c h a r e fi t t e d w i t h
a p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r , t h e f a n
may operate after the vehicle has
b e e n s w i t c h e d o f f , e v e n i f t h e e n -
gine is cold.
In addition, as the cooling system is
pressurised, wait at least one hour
after switching off the engine before
carrying out any work.
To avoid any risk of scalding, un-
screw the cap by two turns to al-
low the pressure to drop. When the
pressure has dropped, remove the
cap and top up the level.
In order to maintain the re-
liability of the engine and
emission control system,
the use of additives in the engine
oil is prohibited.

Screenwash and headlamp
wash fluid
F l u i d s p e c i fi c a t i o n
For optimum cleaning and to avoid
f r e e z i n g , t h i s fl u i d m u s t n o t b e t o p p e d
up or replaced with plain water.
Reservoir capacities:
-
screenwash: approximately 3 litres,
- screenwash and headlamp wash: approximately 6 litres. Diesel additive level (Diesel
engine with particle emission
filter)
A low additive level is indicated by
lighting of the service warning lamp,
accompanied by an audible warning
and a message on the multifunction
screen.
Topping up
This additive must be topped up by
a CITROËN dealer without delay.
Used products
Avoid prolonged contact of
u s e d o i l o r fl u i d s w i t h t h e
skin.
M o s t o f t h e s e fl u i d s a r e h a r m f u l t o
health or indeed very corrosive.
Do not discard used oil or
fl u i d s i n t o s e w e r s o r o n t o
the ground.
Take used oil to an authorised
waste disposal site.
I n t h e c a s e o f v e h i c l e s fi t t e d
with headlamp washers, the
m i n i m u m l e v e l o f t h i s fl u i d i s
indicated by an audible sig-
nal and a message on the multifunc-
tion screen.
Top up the level when you next stop
the vehicle.

CHECKS
Unless otherwise indicated, check
these components in accordance
with the Maintenance and Warranty
Guide and according to your en-
gine.
Otherwise, have them checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
Battery The battery does not re-
quire any maintenance.
However, check that the
terminals are clean and
correctly tightened, partic-
ularly in summer and winter.
When carrying out work on the bat-
t e r y , r e f e r t o t h e " P r a c t i c a l i n f o r -
mation" section for details of the
precautions to be taken before dis-
connecting the battery and following
its reconnection. Air filter and passenger
compartment filter
Refer to the Maintenance
and Warranty Guide for
details of the replacement
intervals for these compo-
nents.
Depending on the environment (e.g.
dusty atmosphere) and the use of
the vehicle (e.g. city driving), replace
them twice as often if necessary
(refer to the "Engines" paragraph).
A c l o g g e d c a b i n fi l t e r m a y h a v e a n
adverse effect on the performance
of the air conditioning system and
generate undesirable odours.
Oil filter
R e p l a c e t h e o i l fi l t e r e a c h
time the engine oil is
changed. Particulate filter system
(Diesel)
Complementary to the catalytic
c o n v e r t e r , t h i s fi l t e r m a k e s a n a c -
tive contribution to the preservation
of air quality by the retaining of the
unburnt pollutant particles. Black
exhaust fumes are thus no longer
emitted.
After prolonged idling or driving at very
low speeds, you may occasionally no-
tice water vapour being emitted from
the exhaust when accelerating. This is
of no consequence to the running of
the vehicle or to the environment.
If there is risk of clogging, a mes-
sage appears on the multifunction
screen, accompanied by an audi-
ble signal and lighting of the serv-
ice warning lamp.
This alert tells you that the particle
fi l t e r i s s t a r t i n g t o fi l l u p ( i n c o n d i -
tions of urban driving of excep-
tionally long duration: low speeds,
t r a f fi c j a m s e t c . ) .
T o r e g e n e r a t e t h e fi l t e r , i t i s a d v i s e d
to drive as soon as possible, when
t r a f fi c c o n d i t i o n s p e r m i t , a t a s p e e d
of 40 mph (around 60 km/h) or
m o r e f o r a t l e a s t fi v e m i n u t e s ( u n t i l
the alert message disappears).
If this alert persists, consult a
CITROËN dealer.

Brake pads Brake wear depends on
the style of driving, par-
ticularly in the case of ve-
hicles used in town, over
short distances. It may be
necessary to have the condition of
the brakes checked, even between
vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak in the circuit, a
d r o p i n t h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l i n d i c a t e s
that the brake pads are worn.
Manual gearbox
The gearbox does not re-
quire any maintenance (no
oil change).

Automatic gearbox The gearbox does not re-

oil change). Brake disc wear
For information relating to
checking the brake disc
wear, contact a CITROËN

Parking brake If the parking brake travel is
too long or if a loss of effec-
tiveness of this system is
noticed, the parking brake
must be adjusted, even be-
tween two services.
This system must be checked by a
CITROËN dealer. Only use products recom-
mended by CITROËN or
products of equivalent qual-
i t y a n d s p e c i fi c a t i o n s .
In order to optimise the operation
of units as important as the braking
system, CITROËN selects and of-
f e r s v e r y s p e c i fi c p r o d u c t s .
To avoid damaging the electrical
units, the use of a high pressure
washer in the engine compartment
is strictly prohibited .

Access to the battery
T h e b a t t e r y i s l o c a t e d u n d e r t h e
b o n n e t .
To gain access to it:
open the bonnet using the inte-
rior lever, then the exterior lever,
secure the bonnet strut,
remove the plastic cover to gain
a c c e s s t o t h e t w o t e r m i n a l s ,
unclip the fuse box to remove
t h e b a t t e r y , i f n e c e s s a r y . Charging the battery using a
battery charger

Starting using another
battery
The batteries contain harm-
ful substances such as sul-
p h u r i c a c i d a n d l e a d . T h e y
must be disposed of in accordance
w i t h r e g u l a t i o n s a n d m u s t n o t , i n
a n y c i r c u m s t a n c e s , b e d i s c a r d e d
w i t h h o u s e h o l d w a s t e .
Take used remote control batteries
and vehicle batteries to a special
c o l l e c t i o n p o i n t .
It is advisable to disconnect the
b a t t e r y i f t h e v e h i c l e i s t o b e l e f t u n -
u s e d f o r m o r e t h a n o n e m o n t h .
Connect the red cable to the
p o s i t i v e t e r m i n a l ( + ) o f t h e fl a t
b a t t e r y A , then to the positive ter-
m i n a l ( + ) o f t h e s l a v e b a t t e r y B .
Connect one end of the green or
black cable to the negative ter-
m i n a l ( - ) o f t h e s l a v e b a t t e r y B .
Operate the starter, let the en-
g i n e r u n .
Wait until the engine returns to
i d l e a n d d i s c o n n e c t t h e c a b l e s .

ENERGY ECONOMY MODE
S y s t e m w h i c h m a n a g e s t h e d u r a t i o n
of use of certain functions to con-

A f t e r t h e e n g i n e h a s s t o p p e d , y o u c a n
still use functions such as the audio
a n d t e l e m a t i c s s y s t e m , w i n d s c r e e n
w i p e r s , d i p p e d h e a d l a m p s , c o u r t e s y
l i g h t s , e t c . f o r a m a x i m u m c o m b i n e d
d u r a t i o n o f t h i r t y m i n u t e s . Switching to economy mode
O n c e t h e t h i r t y m i n u t e s a r e o v e r , a
message appears on the multi-func-
tion screen indicating that the vehi-
c l e h a s s w i t c h e d t o e c o n o m y m o d e
and the active functions are put on
s t a n d b y .
Exiting economy mode
These functions are reactivated au-
t o m a t i c a l l y n e x t t i m e t h e v e h i c l e i s
d r i v e n .
In order to resume the use of these
f u n c t i o n s i m m e d i a t e l y , s t a r t t h e e n -
gine and let it run:
- for less than ten minutes to use
the equipment for an equivalent
duration,
- for more than ten minutes to use t h e e q u i p m e n t f o r a p p r o x i m a t e l y
t h i r t y m i n u t e s .
