Switching off the engine

Emergency starting
When the electronic key is in the recognition zone  and,  after  pressing  the  "START/STOP "
button,
 the  engine  does  not  start:

vehicles
 with  an  automatic  gearbox  or Â

eutral  for  vehicles  with  a  manual  gearbox.F
 O pen  the  front  armrest.

aise  the  mat  by  its  tab  and  remove  it.

ader.

Electric parking brake
The electric parking brake has two operating modes:
-

utomatic application / release

pplication  is  automatic  when  the  engine Â
s
tops,  release  is  automatic  on  use  of  the Â
a
ccelerator  (activated  by  default),

anual application / release
 T
he  parking  brake  can  be  applied  / Â
r
eleased  manually  by  pulling  control Â
l
ever
A.
If
 this  warning  lamp  comes  on  in Â
t
he  instrument  panel,  the  automatic Â
m
ode  is  deactivated.Programming the mode
Depending on  t he  c ountry  o f  s ale  o f  t he  v ehicle,  t
he  automatic  application  when  the  engine  is Â
s
witched  off  and  the  automatic  release  when Â
y
ou  press  the  accelerator  can  be  deactivated.
Activation
 /  deactivation  is  done Â
u
sing  the  vehicle  configuration Â
m
enu;  refer  to  the  section  covering Â
t
he  configuration  of  your  vehicle's Â
s
ystems.
The
 parking  brake  is  then  applied  and  released Â
m
anually.  When  the  driver's  door  is  opened, Â
t
here  is  an  audible  signal  and  a  message  is Â
d
isplayed  if  the  parking  brake  is  not  applied.It
 is  recommended  that  you  do  not  a
pply  the  parking  brake  in  very  cold  c
onditions  (ice)  and  during  towing Â
(
breakdown,  caravan...).  Deactivate  the Â
a
utomatic  functions  and  release  the Â
par
king
 b
rake
 m
anually.
Do
 not  place  any  object  (packet  of Â
c
igarettes,  telephone...)  between  the Â
g
ear  lever  and  the  electric  parking Â
b
rake  control  lever.

Before
 leaving  the  vehicle,  ensure

hat  parking  brake  warning  lamp  in  the

nstrument  panel  is  on  fixed,  not  flashing.
Manual applicationManual release
The full application of the parking brake is c

If you pull control lever A without pressing t
he  brake  pedal,  the  parking  brake  will n

ome  on  in  the  instrument  panel.
With the ignition on or the engine running, to release  the  parking  brake,  press on the brake
pedal or the accelerator, pull then release
control A . If
 necessary,  you  can  make  a  maximum
application

of  the  parking  brake.  This  is Â
o
btained
 by m
eans
 o
f
 a long
pull
on the control
lever A ,  until  you  see  the  message  "Parking Â
b
rake  on  maximum"  and  a  beep  is  heard.
In  the  case  of  towing,  a  loaded  vehicle  or Â
p
arking  on  a  gradient,  make  a  maximum Â
a
pplication  of  the  parking  brake  then  turn  the Â
f
ront  wheels  towards  the  pavement  and  engage Â
a
 gear  when  you  park.
After
 a  maximum  application,  the  release  time Â
w
ill  be  longer.
Maximum application
Maximum application is essential:
- i n  the  case  of  a  vehicle  towing  a  caravan Â
o
r  a  trailer,  if  the  automatic  functions  are Â
a
ctivated  but  you  are  applying  the  parking Â
b
rake
 m
anually,

hen  the  gradient  you  are  parked  on  may Â

ary  (e.g.  on  a  ferry,  on  a  lorry,  during Â
tow
ing).

In the case of towing, a loaded vehicle or  parking  on  a  gradient,  turn  the  front Â

ngage  a  gear  when  you  park.The

Particular situations
In certain situations (e.g. starting the engine), the  parking  brake  can  automatically  alter  its Â
f
orce.  This  is  normal  operation.
To
 advance  your  vehicle  a  few  centimetres Â
w
ithout  starting  the  engine,  but  with  the  ignition Â
o
n,  press  on  the  brake  pedal  and  release  the Â
p
arking  brake  by pulling then releasing the
control lever A .
 The  full  release  of  the  parking Â
b
rake  is  confirmed  by  the  warning  lamps  in Â
t
he control lever A  and  in  the  instrument  panel Â
g
oing  off  and  display  of  the  message  "Parking Â
b
rake  off ".
Emergency braking
In the event of failure of the electronic
stability  control  system,  signalled  by t
he  illumination  of  this  warning  lamp,
 b
raking  stability  is  then  not  guaranteed.

If position N is engaged inadvertently while  driving,  allow  the  engine  to Â

eturn  to  idle  then  engage  position  D to
accelerate. F

The  gearbox  then  operates  in  auto-adaptive Â

ode,  without  any  intervention  on  the  part Â

f  the  driver.  It  continuously  selects  the  most Â

he profile of the road and the load in the
vehicle.
For
 maximum  acceleration  without  touching Â

he selector, press the accelerator pedal down
fully
 (kick  down).  The  gearbox  changes  down Â

utomatically  or  maintains  the  gear  selected Â

ntil  the  maximum  engine  speed  is  reached.
On
 braking,  the  gearbox  changes  down Â

raking.
If you release the accelerator sharply, the
gearbox
 will  not  change  to  a  higher  gear  for Â

afety  reasons.
When
 the  engine  is  running  at  idle,  with Â

he  brakes  released,  if  position  R,

M  is  selected,  the  vehicle  moves Â

ven  without  the  accelerator  being Â

Never leave children unsupervised in
