RE CO MMENDATIONS
AFTER
REPARATION
C heck the connection and the state of the air tempe ratur e sensor connector.
Re place the connector if necessary.
C heck tha t resistance of wate r te mperatur e se nsor is not zero or infinite (sensor sur e failure).
Use chapter “Help” in order to compare the measured resistance values compared with
recommend ed ones).
Repl ace the wate r tempe ratur e se nsor if necessary.
C onnect the 90 w ays terminal box instead of the injection c omputer then c heck the insulation,
continuity and absence of the parasite resistance on lines: Pin 73 injection computer > pin B1 water temperature sensor
Pin 13 injection computer > pin B2 water temperature sensor
Fix if necessary
C heck the correct evolution of the sensor resistance subject to the temperature.
Repl ace the wate r tempe ratur e se nsor if necessary.
If the problem is persisting after these checking, fix the other failures the n perform the conformity
checking.
If failure “DF345 : Supply 5 volts potentiometers or transducers” is present
or memorized, this must be treated with priority.
Conditions for failure detection by the compu ter:
- Set the contact on
- If the failure is only memorized, st art the engine in order to obtain a temperature
variation (an engine cooling fan starting).
(The failure must pass to the present state, but i t may become again memorized
imme diately after finishing performing the previous operations).
* If the failure is memorized with OBD indicator on, check in the context part,
if state “ET275 : Water temperature sensor circuit” c orresponding to the
OBD indicator lighting request is affirma tive. In this case, proceed a s per
bellow mentioned method.
P erform the operations from “recommendations” for reparation confirmation.
Fix a ny other possible failures.
Erase the failures memoriz ed by the injection computer.
Perform a conformity checking by means of the CLIP tester.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Note any other functional failures.
Fix a ny other possible failures.AFTER
REPARATION
Apply this diagnostic if the failure is prese nt or memorized.
CATALYST FUNCTIONAL FAILURE
It shows an inc oherent information receive d before and after catalyst by
me ans of the two oxygen sensors.
Ch eck for leakage on exhaust line.
Fi x it if necessary.
Pe rform a visual checking of the catalyst condition. O deforma tion may be the explanation for its
non-operation.
Ch eck if the catalyst has not previously suffered therma l shocks.
If cold wate r is getting on a warm catalyst it may cause its damaging.
Ch eck for oil or cooling fluid excessive consumption Ask the client if he has used an additive or a
sim ilar product. This type of product may inhibit the catalyst and render it inefficient on short or
l ong term.
Ch eck if there was any combustion misfires. These may damage the catalyst.
Ch eck during a drive test for any noises during running.
If the damaging cause has been found, you may replace the catalyst. If you replace the catalyst
without det ecting the cause, the new catalyst may be damaged al so very qui ckly.

ALP 4 INTEMP ERATE ACCELERATION OR DECELERATION
(engine unstable running)
RECOMMEND AT IONS Do not consult this diagnostic but before a complete checking by
means of the CLIP tester
Ch eck if air filter is not deformed.
Ch eck if there is petrol in the fuel tank (fuel indicator failure)
Ch eck if the vehic le is supplied with adequate fuel
Ch eck tha t supply cir cuit hoses are not broken (espe cially further to a dismounting)
Ch eck the condition of the fuel filter
Ch eck the condition of the fuel tank
Ch eck that fuel tank aeration is taking place.
Disconnect the connection hose between the canister purging valve and the intake manifold.
Cl amp the connection hose in order to stop the air passing.
If there are no more disturbances, the cause is the canister purging valve.
Ch eck the spark plugs and ignition coil condition
Ch eck tha t these eleme nts are specific to that vehicle.
Ch eck that the exhaust route is not clogged and the catalyst is not clogged.
Ch eck the se aling of the exhaust manifold.
Ch eck, by means of the oil dipstick, that oil level is not too high.
Ch eck for lack of sealing at servo-brake (noise).
Ch eck the intake manifold condition
Ch eck if the valve body is not clogged
Ch eck the engine compressions.
Ch eck tha t brake calipers, drums and bearings are not gripped.
Ch eck that tires are inflated
Ch eck the engine flywheel condition
Ch eck tha t cooling system is properly operating
AFTER Perform a checking by means of the CLI P tester.

The heating radiator has no valve.
The fluid circ ulation is permanently done in the heating radiator, this leading to t he engine
cooling.
FILLING
Open the purging screw located on the water pipe between engine and climate control radiator.
Fill up the circuit by the expansion vessel hole
Tighten the purging screws in the moment when the fluid is flowing in a continuos jet.
Start the engine, maintaining it at 2500 rot/min.
Adjust the fluid level in the expansion vessel, during about 4 minutes.
Close the cap of the expansion vessel.
PURGING
Let the engine run for 10 minutes at 2500 rot/min, until engine fan starting (necessary
period for automatic gas purge).
Check if the fluid level in the expansion vessel is nearby the mark “Max”.
Do not open the purging screws with the engine running.
Ret ighten the expansion vessel cap with the warm e ngine.

1. CIRCUIT S EALIN G CHECKING
Mount the adapter M.S 554 –01 instead of
the expansion vessel valve.
Connect a t the adapter, the M.S. 554-07
device. Wa rm the engine, then stop it.
P ump, in order to create pressure in the cir-
cuit. Stop pumping at a value lower with 0.1 bar
then the valve calibrating value ( 1.2 bar)
The pressure must not drop, if not, check for
leak and fix it.
Progressively unscrew the device connection
for cooling circuit decompressing , then unscrew
the device, and mount back the expansion vessel
valve.
2. CHECKING ALVE CALIBRATION
M ount t he expansion vessel va lve on
adapter M.S. 554-06 and connect it to the
MS 557-07 device.
P ump to increase the pressure, this must
be stabilized at the valve calibration value 1.2
w ith a checking tolerance of ± 0.1 bar.
The calibra tion value of t he expansion
vessel valve is : 1.2 bar.

The operation of the engine fan is controlled by the UCE injection, as follows:
1. For vehicles without air conditioning –cooling engine fan cooling is starting when water temperature is over 99°C;
– cooling engine fan cooling is stopping when water temperature is lower than 96°C.
2. For the vehicles with air conditioning. -cooling engine fan cooling is starting on first step when water temperature is over 99°C;
- cooling e ngine fan c ooling is start ing on second step when water temperature is over
104°C; - cooling engine fa n cooling is switching from second step to first step, when water
temperature is lower than 101°C; -engine fan cooling is stopping when water temperature is lower than 96°C.
