HOT ENGINE COOLANT
The warning light switches on when the ignition key is turned to MAR, but it should switch off after a few seconds.
The warning light or symbol on the display lights up when the engine is overheated, on some versions, together with a
dedicated message on the display.
❒ In normal driving conditions: stop the car, switch off the engine and check that the fluid level in the reservoir is not
below the MIN mark. In this case, wait for the engine to cool down, then slowly and carefully open the cap, top up with
coolant and check that the level is between the MIN and MAX marks on the reservoir itself. Also check visually for any
fluid leaks. Should the warning light turn on again at the next start-up, contact a Fiat Dealership.
❒ if the vehicle is used under demanding conditions (e.g. towing trailers uphill or fully loaded): slow down and, if the
light stays on, stop the car. Stop for two or three minutes with the engine running and slightly accelerated to facilitate
better coolant circulation, then turn the engine off. Check that the coolant level is correct as described above.
IMPORTANT Over demanding routes, it is advisable to keep the engine running and slightly accelerated for a few minutes
before turning it off.
On certain versions the dedicated message is displayed.uu
{{
“DUALDRIVE” ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAULT
When the key is turned to MAR, the warning light switches on but it should switch off after a few seconds.
If the warning light stays on, on some versions along with a dedicated message on the display, you may not have steering
assistance and the effort required to operate the steering wheel could be notably increased; steering is, however, possible.
In this case, contact a Fiat Dealership.
If the warning light switches on while driving (on some versions, together with a dedicated message on the display) you may
not have steering assistance. Although it will still be possible to steer the vehicle, the effort needed to operate the steering
wheel could be increased: contact a Fiat Dealership as soon as possible.
IMPORTANT In some circumstances, factors independent of the electric power steering could cause the warning light on
the instrument panel to switch on. In this case, stop the car immediately (should it be in motion), stop the engine for about
20 seconds and then restart the engine. If the warning light stays on, contact a Fiat Dealership.
IMPORTANT After the battery is disconnected, the steering must be initialised. The warning light switches on to indicate
this. To carry out this procedure, simply turn the steering wheel all the way from one end to the other or drive in a straight
line for about a hundred metres.

IN AN EMERGENCY
128
BUMP STARTING13)
Never bump start the engine by
pushing, towing or driving downhill.
This could cause fuel to flow into the
catalytic converter and damage it
beyond repair.
IMPORTANT Remember that the
brake servo and electrical power
steering system (where provided) are
not operational until the engine is
started, a greater effort will therefore
be required to press the brake pedal
or turn the steering wheel.
CHANGING A
WHEEL 32) 30)
JACK
Please note that:
❒ the jack weighs 1.76 kg;
❒ the jack requires no adjustment;
❒ the jack cannot be repaired; if it
breaks, it must be replaced with a
new one of the same type;
❒ no tool other than its cranking
device may be fitted on the jack.
SERVICING
❒ prevent any dirt from depositing on
the “worm screw”
❒ keep the “worm screw” lubricated
❒ never modify the jack.
CONDITIONS OF NON-
USE
❒ at temperatures lower than -40°C
on a sandy or muddy ground
❒ on uneven ground
❒ on a road with steep gradient
❒ in extreme weather conditions:
thunderstorms, typhoons,
hurricanes, blizzards, storms, etc.
❒ in direct contact with the engine or
to carry out repairs under the
vehicle
❒ on boats.
RAISING WITH A JACK
AND REPLACING A
WHEEL
To change a wheel, proceed as
follows:
❒ Stop the car in a position that is
not dangerous for oncoming traffic
where you can change the wheel
safely. The ground must be flat and
sufficiently compact.
❒ Turn the engine off and pull up the
handbrake.
❒ Engage first gear or reverse.
❒ Lift up the luggage compartment
mat and loosen the central locking
device A - fig. 99.

SERVICING AND CARE
160
WHEELS AND TYRES
40)
Check the pressure of each tyre,
including the space-saver wheel,
approximately every two weeks and
before long journeys: the pressure
should be checked with the tyre rested
and cold.
It is normal for the pressure to increase
when the car is used; for the correct
tyre inflation pressure, see “Wheels” in
the “Technical specifications” section.
Incorrect pressure causes abnormal
tyre wear fig. 143:
A standard pressure: tread evenly
worn.
B low pressure: tread particularly worn
at the edges.
C high pressure: tread particularly
worn in the centre.
The tyres must be replaced when the
tread is less than 1.6 mm thick. In all
cases, follow the laws in force in the
country where you are driving.
IMPORTANT
❒ Avoid braking suddenly, high-
powered starts and violent impacts
against curbs, potholes or other
obstacles if possible. Driving for long
stretches over uneven roads can
damage the tyres;
❒ periodically check that the tyres
have no cuts in the side wall,
abnormal swelling or irregular tread
wear.
Go to a Fiat Dealership if required;
❒ avoid overloading the car when
travelling: this may cause serious
damage to the wheels and tyres;
❒ if a tyre is punctured, stop
immediately and replace it to avoid
damage to the tyre, the rim,
suspension and steering system;
❒ tyres age even if they are not used
much. Cracks in the tread and on
the sidewalls are a sign of ageing. In
any event, have the tyres checked
by specialised personnel if they have
been fitted for longer than 6 years.
Also remember to check the space-
saver wheel with particular care;
❒ In the case of replacement, always
fit new tyres, avoiding those with an
unknown origin;❒ If a tyre is replaced, also change the
inflation valve;
❒ to allow even wear between the
front and rear tyres, it is advisable to
change them over every 10–15
thousand kilometres, keeping them
on the same side of the car to avoid
inverting the direction of rotation.
❒ avoid travelling with partially or
completely deflated tyres as this can
compromise safety and damage the
tyres beyond repair.

175
SNOW TYRES 30)
Use snow tyres of the same size as the standard tyres provided with the car.
All four tyres should be the same (brand and track) to ensure greater safety when driving and braking as well as a good
manoeuvrability.
Remember that you should not change the rotation direction of the tyres.
The winter features of these tyres are reduced considerably when the tread depth is below 4 mm.
Replace them in this case.
Due to the specific characteristics of snow tyres, in normal weather conditions or on long motorway journeys, the
performance of these tyres is lower than that of standard tyres.
Their usage should therefore be restricted in accordance with their type approval.
IMPORTANT When using snow tyres with a maximum speed index below the one that can be reached by the car (increased
by 5%), place a notice in the passenger compartment, plainly in view, which states the maximum speed allowed by the snow
tyres (as per EC Directive).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
190(CONTINUES)
PERSONAL SAFETY
(CONTINUED)
•The HH system is not a parking brake, therefore do not leave
the vehicle without activating the handbrake, switching off the
engine, and engaging first gear, with the vehicle parked in safe
conditions.
•There may be situations on small gradients
(less than 8%), with car laden or a trailer attached to it (where
provided), in which the HH system may not activate, causing a
slight reversing motion and increasing the risk of collision with
another vehicle or object.
The driver is, in any case, responsible for safe driving.
•The HBA system cannot increase tyre grip on the road over
the limits imposed by laws of physics: always drive carefully
according to the conditions of the road surface.
•The HBA system is an aid for the driver, who must always pay
full attention while driving.
The responsibility always rests with the driver.
16) ENGINE BONNET
•Before opening the bonnet, check that windscreen wiper
arm is not lifted from the windscreen.
•The bonnet may drop suddenly if the supporting rod is not
positioned correctly.
Only perform these operations when the car is stationary.
•Be careful working inside engine compartment when the
engine is hot to avoid burning yourself. Do not place your
hands near the engine fan as it may be activated even when
the key is removed. Wait until the engine has cooled.
•Be very careful not to allow scarves, neck ties and other
loose articles of clothing from touching, even accidentally, any
moving parts. This may cause the clothing to be pulled into the
part, resulting in serious injury to the wearer. •For safety reasons, the bonnet must always be properly closed
while the car is travelling. Make sure that the bonnet is properly
closed and that the lock is engaged. If you notice when driving
that the bonnet has not been properly locked, stop immediately
and close the bonnet correctly.
•Use both hands to lift the bonnet. Before lifting, check that the
windscreen wiper arms are not raised from the windscreen, that
the vehicle is stationary and that the handbrake is engaged.
17) CONTROLS
•It is absolutely forbidden to carry out any after-market operation
involving steering system or steering column modifications
(e.g. installation of anti-theft device) that could adversely affect
performance and safety, invalidate the warranty and also result in
non-compliance of the vehicle with type-approval requirements.
•Before performing any maintenance operations, always stop
the engine and remove the key from the ignition to lock the
steering column (especially when the car wheels are not touching
the ground). If this is not possible (for example if the key needs to
be turned to MAR or the engine must be running), remove the
main fuse that protects the electric power steering.
18) PARKING SENSORS
Parking manoeuvres, however, are always the driver’s
responsibility. While carrying out these manoeuvres, always make
sure that no people (especially children) or animals are in the area
concerned.
The parking sensors are used to assist the driver, who must
never allow his attention to lapse during potentially dangerous
manoeuvres, even those executed at low speeds.
