Locking Using Intelligent Access
With your intelligent access key within 3 ft(1 m) of your vehicle, touch the outer doorhandle lock sensor for approximately onesecond to lock, being careful to not touchthe unlock sensor on the back of the doorhandle at the same time. After locking, youcan immediately pull on the door handleto confirm locking occurred withoutinadvertently unlocking.
Opening the Luggage Compartment
Press the exterior release button hiddenabove the license plate.
Smart Unlocks
This feature helps to prevent you fromunintentionally locking your intelligentaccess key inside your vehicle’s passengercompartment or luggage compartment.
When you electronically lock your vehiclewith any door open, your vehicle in parkand the ignition off, your vehicle searchesfor an intelligent access key in thepassenger compartment after you closethe last door. If your vehicle finds a key, allof the doors immediately unlock and thehorn sounds twice, indicating that a key isinside.
You can override the smart unlock featureand intentionally lock the intelligent accesskey inside your vehicle. To do this, lock yourvehicle after you have closed all the doorsby:
•Pressing the lock button on anotherintelligent access key.
•Touching the locking area on thehandle with another intelligent accesskey in your hand.
When you open one of the front doors andlock your vehicle using the power door lockcontrol, all doors lock then unlock if:
•The ignition is on.
•The ignition is off and the transmissionis not in park (P).
Autolock
Autolock locks all the doors when:
•All doors are closed.
•The ignition is on.
•You shift into any gear putting yourvehicle in motion.
•Your vehicle reaches a speed greaterthan 12 mph (20 km/h).
Autolock repeats when:
•You open then close any door while theignition is on and your vehicle speed is9 mph (15 km/h) or lower.
•Your vehicle reaches a speed greaterthan 12 mph (20 km/h).

Autounlock
Autounlock unlocks all the doors when:
•The ignition is on, you have closed allthe doors, and your vehicle has beenmoving at a speed greater than 12 mph(20 km/h).
•Your vehicle comes to a stop and youswitch the ignition off or to theaccessory position.
•You open the driver door within 10minutes of switching the ignition off orto accessory.
Note:The doors do not autounlock if youelectronically lock your vehicle after youswitch the ignition off and before you openthe driver door.
Enabling or Disabling Autounlock
You can enable or disable the autounlockfeature in the information display or anauthorized dealer can do it for you. SeeGeneral Information (page 102).
Locking and Unlocking the Doorswith the Key Blade
Turn the top of the key toward the front ofyour vehicle once to lock all doors.
Turn the top of the key toward the rear ofyour vehicle once to unlock the driver dooronly. See Remote Control (page 58).
Locking the Doors Individually
If the central locking function does notoperate, lock the doors individually usingthe key in the position shown.
Left-Hand Side
Turn clockwise to lock.
Right-Hand Side
Turn counterclockwise to lock.
Unlocking the Doors
If the central locking function does notoperate, unlock the driver door and thenunlock all other doors individually bypulling the interior door handles.

Note:If you have unlocked the doors usingthis method, you must lock the doorsindividually to restore the central lockingfunction.
Unlocking the Luggage Compartment(Convertible Only)
If the power decklid release does notoperate because of a discharged battery,pull the rear seat left-hand side seatbackcushion aside, insert the mechanical keyblade into the key slot and turn the key torelease the decklid latch.
Opening the LuggageCompartment
From Inside Your Vehicle
Press the button on the instrument panelto open the luggage compartment.
From Outside Your Vehicle
Press the exterior release button hiddenabove the license plate. You need to haveyour vehicle unlocked or have an intelligentaccess key within 3 ft (1 m) of the luggagecompartment.
With the Remote Control
Press twice within three secondsto open the luggagecompartment.
Illuminated Entry
The interior lamps and select exteriorlamps illuminate when you unlock thedoors with the remote entry system.
The illuminated entry system turns off thelights if:
•The ignition is on.
•You press the remote control lockbutton.
•After 25 seconds of illumination.
The lights do not turn off if:
•You switch them on with the lampcontrol.
•Any door is open.

Illuminated Exit
The interior lamps and select exteriorlamps illuminate when all doors are closedand you switch the ignition off.
The lamps turn off if all the doors remainclosed and:
•After 25 seconds elapse.
•You press the START/STOP button.
Battery Saver
If you leave on the courtesy lamps, domelamps or headlamps, the battery saverturns them off 10 minutes after you switchoff the ignition.
Accessory Mode Battery Saver forIntelligent Access Keys
If you leave your vehicle in the run ignitionstate, it turns off once it detects a certainamount of battery drain or after 45minutes.
INTERIOR LUGGAGE
COMPARTMENT RELEASE
WARNING: Keep vehicle doors andluggage compartment locked and keepkeys and remote transmitters out of achild’s reach. Unsupervised childrencould lock themselves in the trunk andrisk injury. Children should be taught notto play in vehicles.
WARNING: Do not leave childrenor animals unattended in the vehicle. Onhot days, the temperature in the trunk orvehicle interior can rise very quickly.Exposure of people or animals to thesehigh temperatures for even a short timecan cause death or serious heat-relatedinjuries, including brain damage. Smallchildren are particularly at risk.
Your vehicle is equipped with a releasehandle that provides a means of escapefor children and adults if they becomelocked inside the luggage compartment.
Adults should familiarize themselves withthe operation and location of the releasehandle.
The handle is located inside the luggagecompartment either on the luggagecompartment door (lid) or near the taillamps. It is composed of a material thatwill glow for hours in darkness followingbrief exposure to ambient light.
Pull the handle and push up on the luggagecompartment door (lid) to open fromwithin the luggage compartment.

PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT
SYSTEM
Note:The system is not compatible withnon-Ford aftermarket remote start systems.Use of these systems may result in vehiclestarting problems and a loss of securityprotection.
Note:Metallic objects, electronic devicesor a second coded key on the same keychain may cause vehicle starting problemsif they are too close to the key when startingyour vehicle. Prevent these objects fromtouching the coded key while starting yourvehicle. Switch the ignition off, move allobjects on the key chain away from thecoded key and restart your vehicle if aproblem occurs.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take your keys andlock all doors when leaving your vehicle.
SecuriLock
The system helps prevent your vehiclefrom starting unless you use a coded keyprogrammed to your vehicle. Using thewrong key may prevent your vehicle fromstarting. A message may appear in theinformation display.
If you are unable to start your vehicle witha correctly coded key, it is not operatingproperly. A message may appear in theinformation display.
Automatic Arming
Your vehicle arms immediately afterswitching the ignition off.
Automatic Disarming
Switching the ignition on with a coded keydisarms your vehicle.
Replacement Keys
Note:Your vehicle comes equipped withtwo intelligent access keys.
The intelligent access key functions as aprogrammed key that operates the driverdoor lock and activates the intelligentaccess with push button start system, aswell as a remote control.
If your programmed transmitters are lostor stolen and you do not have an extracoded key, you need to have your vehicletowed to an authorized dealer. You needto erase the key codes from your vehicleand program new coded keys.
Store an extra programmed key away fromyour vehicle in a safe place to help preventany inconveniences. See your authorizeddealer to purchase additional spare orreplacement keys.
Programming a Spare IntelligentAccess Key
Note:You can program a maximum of fourintelligent access keys to your vehicle.
You must have two previouslyprogrammed intelligent access keys insideyour vehicle and the new unprogrammedintelligent access keys readily accessible.See an authorized dealer to have the sparekey programmed if two previouslyprogrammed keys are not available.
Make sure that your vehicle is off beforebeginning this procedure. Make sure thatyou close all the doors before beginningand that they remain closed throughoutthe procedure. Perform all steps within 30seconds of starting the sequence. Stopand wait for at least one minute beforestarting again if you perform any steps outof sequence.
Read and understand the entire procedurebefore you begin.

1.Remove the rubber covering (A) fromthe cupholder. Place the firstprogrammed key in the backup slot (B)at the bottom of the cupholder, thenpress the push button ignition switch.
2.Wait five seconds and then press thepush button ignition switch again.
3.Remove the intelligent access key.
4.Within 10 seconds, place a secondprogrammed intelligent access key inthe backup slot. Press the push buttonignition switch.
5.Wait five seconds and then press thepush button ignition switch again.
6.Remove the intelligent access key.
7.Place the unprogrammed intelligentaccess key in the backup slot and pressthe push button ignition switch.
Programming is now complete. Verify theremote control functions operate and yourvehicle starts with the new intelligentaccess key.
If programming was not successful, wait10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 7.If you are still unsuccessful, take yourvehicle to your authorized dealer.
ANTI-THEFT ALARM (IF EQUIPPED)
The system will warn you of anunauthorized entry to your vehicle.
It will be triggered if any door, the luggagecompartment or the hood is openedwithout using the key or remote control.
The direction indicators will flash and thehorn will sound if unauthorized entry isattempted while the alarm is armed.
Take all remote controls to an authorizeddealer if there is a potential alarm problemwith your vehicle.
Arming the Alarm
The alarm is ready to arm when there isnot a key in your vehicle.
Electronically lock your vehicle to arm thealarm.
Disarming the Alarm
Disarm the alarm by any of the followingactions:
•Unlock the doors or luggagecompartment with the remote control.
•Switch your vehicle on or start yourvehicle.
•Use a key in the driver door to unlockyour vehicle, then switch your vehicleon within 12 seconds.
Note:Pressing the panic button on theremote control will stop the horn and signalindicators, but will not disarm the system.

Flashing the Headlamp High Beam
Slightly pull the lever toward you andrelease it to flash the headlamps.
AUTOLAMPS
WARNING: The system does notrelieve you of your responsibility to drivewith due care and attention. You mayneed to override the system if it does notturn the headlamps on in low visibilityconditions, for example daytime fog.
Autolamps turn the headlamps on in lowlight situations or when the wipers operate.
Switch the lighting control to theautolamps position.
The headlamps remain on for a period oftime after you switch the ignition off. Usethe information display controls to adjustthe period of time that the headlampsremain on.
Note: If you switch the autolamps on, youcannot switch the high beams on until thesystem turns the low beams on.
Windshield Wiper ActivatedHeadlamps
When you switch the autolamps on, theheadlamps turn on within 10 seconds ofswitching the wipers on. They turn offapproximately 60 seconds after you switchthe windshield wipers off.
The headlamps do not turn on with thewipers:
•During a single wipe.
•When using the windshield washers.
•If the wipers are in intermittent mode.
Note:If you switch the autolamps and theautowipers on, the headlamps turn on whenthe windshield wipers continuously operate.
INSTRUMENT LIGHTING
DIMMER
The instrument lighting dimmer buttonsare on the lighting control.
Repeatedly press one of thebuttons to adjust the brightness.
HEADLAMP EXIT DELAY
After you switch the ignition off, you canswitch the headlamps on by pulling thedirection indicator lever toward you. Youwill hear a short tone. The headlamps willswitch off automatically after threeminutes with any door open or 30 secondsafter the last door has been closed. Youcan cancel this feature by pulling thedirection indicator lever toward you againor switching the ignition on.

DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS -
VEHICLES WITH:
CONFIGURABLE DAYTIME
RUNNING LAMPS
WARNING: The daytime runninglamps system does not activate the rearlamps and may not provide adequatelighting during low visibility drivingconditions. Make sure you switch theheadlamps on, as appropriate, during alllow visibility conditions. Failure to do somay result in a crash.
Switch the daytime running lamps on oroff using the information display. SeeGeneral Information (page 108).
The daytime running lamps turn on when:
1.The lamps are on in the informationdisplay.
2.You switch the ignition on.
3.The transmission is not in park (P) forvehicles with automatic transmissionsor you release the parking brake forvehicles with manual transmissions.
4.The lighting control is in the autolampsposition.
5.The headlamps are off.
The other lighting control switch positionsdo not turn on the daytime running lamps.
If the daytime running lamps are off in theinformation display, the lamps stay off inall switch positions.
DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS -
VEHICLES WITH: DAYTIME
RUNNING LAMPS (DRL)
WARNING: The daytime runninglamps system does not activate the rearlamps and may not provide adequatelighting during low visibility drivingconditions. Make sure you switch theheadlamps on, as appropriate, during alllow visibility conditions. Failure to do somay result in a crash.
The system turns the lamps on in daylightconditions.
To switch the system on, switch thelighting control to any position exceptheadlamps.
FRONT FOG LAMPS (IF EQUIPPED)
Using the Front Fog Lamps
To switch the lamps on or off:
1.Set the lighting control to the parkinglamps, headlamps or autolampsposition.
Note:When the lighting control is in theautolamps position, you cannot switch thefog lamps on unless the low beamheadlamps are on.
2.
Press the button on thelighting control to switch the front foglamps on or off.
Note:Only switch the front fog lamps onduring reduced visibility.
Note:The brightness of the daytime runninglamps may decrease when the front foglamps are on.

POWER WINDOWS
WARNING: Do not leave childrenunattended in your vehicle and do notlet them play with the power windows.Failure to follow this instruction couldresult in personal injury.
WARNING: When closing thepower windows, verify they are free ofobstruction and make sure that childrenand pets are not in the proximity of thewindow openings.
Note: You may hear a pulsing noise whenjust one of the windows is open. Lower theopposite window slightly to reduce thisnoise.
Note:Use the singular control (if equipped)to open both rear windows.
Press the control to open the window.
Lift the control to close the window.
One-Touch Down
Press the switch fully and release it. Pressagain or lift it to stop the window.
One-Touch Up
Lift the switch fully and release it. Pressagain or lift it to stop the window.
Bounce-Back
The window will automatically stop andreverse some distance if it detects anobstacle while closing.
Overriding the Bounce-Back Feature
WARNING: When you override thebounce-back feature the window willnot reverse if it detects an obstacle. Takecare when closing the windows to avoidpersonal injury or damage to yourvehicle.
Pull up the window switch and hold withintwo seconds of the window reaching thebounce-back position. The window willtravel up with no bounce-back protection.The window will stop if you release theswitch before the window is fully closed.
Accessory Delay
The window switches remain operationalfor several minutes when you switch theignition off or until you open either frontdoor.
GLOBAL OPENING
You can use the remote control to openthe windows with the ignition off.
Note:You can enable or disable this featurein the information display, or see anauthorized dealer. See GeneralInformation (page 98).
Note:To operate this feature, accessorydelay must not be active.

Adaptive Cruise Control Indicator
(If Equipped)
It illuminates when you switchthe system on.
It illuminates white when thesystem is in standby mode. It illuminatesgreen when you set the adaptive cruisespeed.
See Using Adaptive Cruise Control(page 185).
Airbag Warning Lamp
If it does not illuminate when youswitch the ignition on, continuesto flash or remains on when theengine is running, this indicates amalfunction. Have your vehicle checkedas soon as possible.
Anti-Lock Brake System WarningLamp
If it illuminates when you aredriving, this indicates amalfunction. Your vehiclecontinues to have normal braking withoutthe anti-lock brake system function. Haveyour vehicle checked as soon as possible.
Automatic Headlamp High BeamIndicator (If Equipped)
It illuminates when the systemautomatically turns theheadlamp high beam on.
See What Is Automatic High BeamControl (page 84).
Battery
If it illuminates while driving, itindicates a malfunction. Switchoff all unnecessary electricalequipment and have the systemimmediately checked.
Blind Spot Information SystemIndicator
It illuminates when you switchthe system off.
See Blind Spot InformationSystem (page 197).
Brake System Warning Lamp
WARNING: Driving your vehiclewith the warning lamp on is dangerous.A significant decrease in brakingperformance may occur. It may take youlonger to stop your vehicle. Have yourvehicle checked as soon as possible.Driving extended distances with theparking brake engaged can cause brakefailure and the risk of personal injury.
Note:Indicators vary depending on region.
This lamp is a dual function lamp andilluminates when:
•You apply the parking brake with theignition on.
•Your vehicle has a brake fault or lowbrake fluid level, regardless of parkingbrake position.
If the lamp illuminates when youare moving, you may have theparking brake applied. Make surethe parking brake is off. Haveyour vehicle checked as soon aspossible if the lamp continues toilluminate.
