This introduces new features and providesupdates to the vehicle's software systems.Make sure to switch Automatic Updateson, set a recurring update schedule andconnect your vehicle to Wi-Fi. Updatescould take longer when not connected toWi-Fi or could not download at all. SeeConnecting the Vehicle to a Wi-FiNetwork (page 372). See Connecting theVehicle to a Wi-Fi Network (page 372).
Your vehicle may be able to receivedrivable software updates, non-drivablesoftware updates or both. Drivablesoftware updates happen during normalvehicle usage and require limited inputfrom you. You are notified on yourtouchscreen and connected device priorto a non-drivable update.
Most non-drivable updates complete inless than 30 minutes, although someupdates could take up to a few hours.
You are notified of vehicle software updatestatus on to the top left of touchscreen.You can also see the notifications in yourconnected device. See Software UpdateIndicators (page 405).
Vehicle Software UpdateRequirements
Non-drivable software updates do notinstall if any of the following occur:
•Your vehicle is running.
•Your vehicle is switched on.
•Your vehicle is not parked.
•The 12 V battery charge is too low.
•The hazard indicators are switched on.
•The alarm is sounding.
•The doors are open.
•The parking lamps are switched on.
•You are pressing the brake pedal.
•An emergency call is in process.
•Your vehicle is in limp home mode.
Vehicle Software UpdateLimitations
Once you begin a non-drivable softwareupdate, you cannot:
•Cancel the update.
•Enter your vehicle unless you have akey blade.
•You can open the doors using themechanical latch if child locks arenot on.
•Use the remote control to lock, unlockor start your vehicle.
•Drive your vehicle.
•Charge your vehicle.
•Charging resumes once the updatecompletes.
SOFTWARE UPDATE
SETTINGS
1.
Press the button on thetouchscreen.
2.Press Software Updates.
You can do the following in the SoftwareUpdates menu:
•Switch Automatic Updates on and off.
•Schedule and install software updates.
•View software update details.
Press the button next to a menuoption for more information.

PERFORMING A SYSTEM
RESET
Make sure you perform a system resetwhenever there is a transfer of ownershipof the vehicle to prevent the loss ofpersonal data. Performing a system resetallows you to remove all personalinformation and restore the modem andSYNC to their factory defaults.
In the modem, this deletes all theauthorized users, removes access to theconnected vehicle via all linked FordPassaccounts. In the SYNC system this deletesall data imported from mobile devicesconnected to the vehicle via Bluetooth®including the addresses manually enteredinto the navigation system.
Note:If you are the first owner, your modemcomes in partially activated state.
Note:If you are not the first owner, it comesin either fully activated, partially activatedor deactivated state.
1.
Press the button on thetouchscreen.
2.Press General.
3.Press Reset.
4.Press Factory Reset.
5.Follow the prompts on the touchscreento complete the reset.

MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTYCOVERAGE:
(For 1990 and subsequent modelpassenger cars, light-duty trucks, andmedium-duty vehicles.)
- For 3 years or 50,000 miles (whicheveroccurs first);
1) If your vehicle fails a Smog Checkinspection, all necessary repairs andadjustments will be made by Ford MotorCompany to ensure that your emissioncontrol system PERFORMANCEWARRANTY.
2) If any emission-related part on yourvehicle is defective, the part will berepaired or replaced by Ford MotorCompany. This is your short-term emissioncontrol system DEFECTS WARRANTY.
- For 7 years or 70,000 miles (whicheveroccurs first);
1) If an emission-related part listed in thiswarranty booklet specially noted withcoverage for 7 years or 70,000 miles isdefective, the part will be repaired orreplaced by Ford Motor Company. This isyour long-term emission control systemDEFECTS WARRANTY.
OWNER'S WARRANTYRESPONSIBILITIES:
- As the vehicle owner, you are responsiblefor the performance of the requiredmaintenance listed in your owner'smanual. Ford Motor Companyrecommends that you retain all receiptscovering maintenance on your vehicle, butFord Motor Company cannot denywarranty solely for the lack of receipts orfor your failure to ensure the performanceof all scheduled maintenance.
- You are responsible for presenting yourvehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer as soonas a problem exists. The warranty repairsshould be completed in a reasonableamount of time, not to exceed 30 days.
- As the vehicle owner, you should also beaware that Ford Motor Company may denyyou warranty coverage if your vehicle or apart has failed due to abuse, neglect,improper maintenance or unapprovedmodifications.
