CONTROLS AND EQUIPMENTHowever, care must be exercised when re- fuelling the vehicle tank from jerry cans or bymeans of a funnel that the fuel being used isunleaded. The use of leaded fuel in this vehicle will result in irreversible pollution of the catalyst ele-ment. Such pollution will prevent correct op-eration of the catalyst and give rise to in-creased operating temperatures leading tothe catalyst element melting and restrictingthe exhaust flow along with an increase inexhaust emission levels. CAUTION: The vehicle warranty will not extend to damage arising from the use of incorrectfuels. DIESEL ENGINES Diesel fuel of 52 to 54 cetane is used in diesel engined Hyundai vehicle. If two types of dieselfuel are available, use summer or winter fuelproperly according to the following tempera-ture conditions.
o Above 23°F (-5°C) ... Summer type diesel fuel.
o Below 23°F (-5°C) ... Winter type diesel fuel. Watch the fuel level in the tank very carefully: If the engine stops through fuel failure, the circuits must be completely purged to permitrestarting.

Unleaded fuel with a Research Octane Num- ber (RON) of 91 or higher must be used in thisvehicle.To prevent accidental charging of the fueltank with leaded fuel, a small diameter fillerneck along with a restrictor flap are fitted toensure that only unleaded fuel pump nozzlesmay enter the filler neck. CAUTION: Do not let any petrol or water enter the tank. If this happens, the tank should becompletely drained and the fuel linesshould all be cleaned out. This will stopthe fuel pump from becoming contami-nated.

The fuel gauge indicates the quantity of fuel remaining in the fuel tank. NOTE: The fuel gauge is not intended to giveother than an approximate indication ofthe fuel level and is unsuitable for thepurposes of calculating fuel consumptionfigures.SB215B1-E ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE The engine coolant temperature gauge indi- cates the engine coolant temperature and will, under normal circumstances, give an indica-tion in the "Normal" or centre portion of thescale. Should the indication move into theupper or "Hot" portion of the scale, engineoverheating is indicated. Under these circum-stances, the vehicle should be brought to restas soon as is safe to do so and the engineturned off. Once the engine has cooled some-what, the coolant level and the condition ofthe generator/water pump drive belt should bechecked. If the cause of the overheating can-not be readily established, the assistance ofa Hyundai authorised repairer should besought.

The use of plain water inthe cooling system is not recommendedsince the aluminium components of thecooling system require the use of a corro-sion inhibitor found in the recommendedEthylene Glycol type anti freeze solutions.

o The total gross vehicle weight with trailer must not exceed the Gross Ve- hicle Weight Rating (GVWR) shown on the vehicle identification plate (see page 8-1). The total gross vehicle weight is the combined weight of the vehicle, driver, all passengers and their lug- gage, cargo, hitch, trailer nose weight and other optional equipment.
o The front or rear axle weight must not exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating(GAWR) shown on the vehicle identifi- cation plate (see page 8-1). it is possible that your towing package does not ex- ceed the GVWR but exceeds the GAWR. Improper trailer loading and/or too much luggage in the boot can overload the rear axle. Redistribute the load and check the axle weight again. MANUAL

driving vehicles with automatic transmission will assist with braking performance when long down hill gradients are encountered. Improved acceleration performance will be available by selecting "Overdrive Off","2", or "1" depending upon road speed if it is found that the transmission unit makes an undesir- able upshift whilst hill climbing or overtaking. The transmission unit should be operated in "D" with the Overdrive "On" under normal circumstances to enhance fuel economy and reduce noise and engine wear.
Gross Axle Weight
CAUTION: The use of a badly loaded or overloaded trailer may result in instability. This following specifications are recom-mended when towing a trailer. The loaded trailer weight or the Gross Train Weight must not exceed the values in the follow- ing chart . SSA2200DGross Vehicle Weight
to tyres which deteriorate through time and exposure rather than as a result of the dis- tances towed. The inside walls of the tyres should be inspected along with the outside walls for cracking and damage. The trailer wheel nut torque must be checked on a regular basis, preferably before each towing session. The trailer hitch and the safety catch mecha- nism must be maintained in good working order. The trailer break away cable or chain should be inspected for damage and should be attached to the vehicle towing attachment each and every time the trailer is hitched to the vehicle. Whilst towing, the performance of the vehicle will be reduced in terms of acceleration, brak- ing and handling due to the increased loads placed upon the vehicle. The driver should anticipate the change in characteristics and adjust the driving style in keeping with these changes. Care should be exercised when cornering and braking to prevent the outfit becoming uncontrollable by reducing corner- ing speeds and allowing increased braking distances. The driver should exercise care to ensure that when pulling away from rest particularly on uphill gradients the clutch unit is not subjected to excessive slippage which will reduce the useful life of this component. Use of the "Overdrive Off" "2" and "L" positions when

CAUTION: Personal injury and damage to the vehicle may occur if jump starting is not per- formed correctly. If any doubt exists as to how this operation should be performed, seek assistance from qualified personnel. WARNING: Motor vehicle batteries contain sulphuric acid and emit hydrogen gas. Protective clothing should be worn and care exer- cised to prevent the acid from coming into contact with skin or clothing and the ve- hicle. Naked lights should not be permitted in the vicinity of the battery. Care should be exercised to prevent sparks occurring during connection. If acid accidentally comes into contact with skin or eyes, the affected area should immediately be flushed CAUTION: If the jump cable are incorrectly installed,
damage to the vehicle electrical system may occur, in particular the electronic components such as the Fuel Injection system computer and the Automatic
Transaxle computer. The battery must never be disconnected whilst the engine is running. SD040A2-E IF THE ENGINE OVERHEATS
If the temperature gauge indicates overheat- ing:
1. Pull off the road and stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
2. Place the gear selector lever in "P" (auto- matic), or neutral (manual transaxle) and set the parking brake. If the air condition- ing is on, turn it off.
3. If coolant is running out under the car or
steam is coming out from under the bonnet stop the engine. Do not open the bonnet until the coolant has stopped running or the steaming has stopped. If there is no visible loss of coolant and no steam, leave the engine running and check to be sure the engine cooling fan is operating.If the fan is not running, turn the engine off.
4. Check to see if the water pump drive belt is broken. If it is not missing, check to seethat it is tight.

1. Ensure that the booster battery is 12 volt
type. If the booster battery is installed in another vehicle, ensure that the two vehi- cles are not touching.
2. Turn off all unnecessary electrical equip- ment in both vehicles.
3. Ensure that the engine of the vehicle pro- viding the jump start is running prior to connection of the jump cables.
4. Connect the red jump cable to the positive (+) terminal of the booster battery and theother end to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery.
5. Attach the black jump cable to the nega- tive (-) terminal of the booster battery, andthe other end to a ground point within the engine compartment of the vehicle with the flat battery. Do not connect to the negative battery terminal of the flat battery since sparks may be generated with the subsequent risk of explosion.
6. Raise the booster vehicle engine speed to 2,000 r.p.m. and start the engine of thevehicle with the flat battery.
7. Switch "ON" the main beam headlamps before carefully removing the jumper cables in the reverse order of attachment. Once the jumper cables have been re- moved, switch "OFF" the main beam headlamps.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
If the drive belt seems to be satisfactory, check for coolant leaking from the radiator, hoses or under the car. (If the air condi- tioning had been in use, it is normal for cold water to be draining from it).
WARNING: Whilst the engine is running, keep hands and clothing away from moving parts such as the fan and drive belts to prevent injury. WARNING (Diesel only): Never work on injection system with en-gine running or within 30 seconds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injectors and high pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the engine stopped. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it touch the body. People using pacemak- ers should ensure that they keep a dis- tance of 30cm from the ECU or wiring harness within the engine room whilst engine is running, since the high currents in the Common Rail system produce con- siderable magnetic fields.
5. If the water pump drive belt is broken or coolant is leaking out, stop the engine immediately and call the nearest Hyundai authorised repairer for assistance. WARNING:Do not remove the radiator cap when theengine is hot since steam and boiling water may be ejected from the radiator resulting in burns or scalding.
6. If the cause of the overheating cannot be found, wait until the engine temperature has returned to normal. Then, if coolant has been lost, carefully remove the radia- tor cap and add water to bring the fluid level in the reservoir up to the base of the radiator fill opening. Fill the coolant expan- sion tank to the halfway mark.
7. Proceed with caution until it is established that the engine is operating normally. If theengine overheats repeatedly, the advice of a Hyundai authorised repairer should be sought.
CAUTION:Serious loss of coolant indicates there is a leak in the cooling system and this should be checked as soon as possible by a Hyundai authorised repairer. D040A01FC-EAT
TEMPORARY SPARE TYRE The following instructions for the temporary
spare tyre should be observed:
1. Check inflation pressure as soon as pos-
sible after installing the spare tyre, and adjust to the specified pressure. The tyre pressure should be periodically checked and maintained at the specified pressure whilst the tyre is stored.
2. The spare tyre should only be used tem- porarily and should be returned to the luggage compartment as soon as the origi- nal tyre can be repaired or replaced.
3. Continuous use at speeds of over 80 km/h
(50 mph) is not recommended.
4. As the temporary spare tyre is specifically designed for your car, it should not beused on any other vehicle.
5. The temporary spare tyre should not be used on any other wheels, nor shouldstandard tyre, snow tyre, wheel covers or trim rings be used with the temporary spare wheel. If such use is attempted, damage to these items or other car com- ponents may occur.
6. The temporary spare tyre pressure should be checked once a month whilst the tyreis stored.

2.Diesel Engine The correct engine oil level is of paramount importance. An excessively high or low oillevel may result in irreparable damage beingsustained by the engine. The engine oil levelmust be checked on a daily basis, wheneverthe vehicle is refuelled or before starting along trip, whichever occurs sooner.

the engine at normal operating temperature and the vehicle parked upon level ground. Prior to checking the level, the vehicle should
be allowed to stand for several minutes after theengine has been switched off to allow the oil todrain back to the sump.

oil is preferred regardless of regional option and engine variation. If SAE 5W-20,ILSAC GF-3 engine oil is not available,secondary recommended engine oil forcorresponding temperature range can beused. In addition, it is imperative that only an ap-
proved grade and specification of oil is usedto avoid the possibility of serious engine dam-age and premature wear. The use of "budgetprice" oil is a false economy that must beavoided if the maximum reliability and usefullife is to be obtained from the vehicle.
The engine oil quality should meet the follow-
ing classification:
API class: CH-4 or ABOVEACEA class: B4 or ABOVE NOTE: SAE 0W-30 oil is for use in very cold
zones. Its use should therefore be re- stricted only to driving in these type ofsub-zero conditions. (Especially, not rec-ommended for sustained high engine loadand high speed operation.)

It is of the utmost importance that the following information is read and understood by thevehicle operator in order to prevent operationalproblems arising from damage to the catalyst.Damage to the catalyst will result if contamina-tion occurs through the use of leaded fuel.Whilst the vehicle is fitted with a reduced diam-eter filler neck to prevent charging of the fueltank with a leaded fuel pump nozzle, it ispossible that the use of funnels or jerry cans willpermit leaded fuel to be introduced into the fueltank.The catalyst is intolerant of unburnt fuel andtherefore if an engine misfire condition exists,damage to the catalyst will occur. It is impera-tive that if a misfire condition develops, thevehicle is immediately presented to a Hyundaiauthorised repairer for rectification. Similarly,the practice of certain ignition system diagno-sis procedures which involve inducing a misfire(cylinder power balance tests for example)may result in catalyst damage.For these reasons, it is advisable that theexhaust gas emission be tested at each routineservice with a gas analyzer having a Hydrocar-bon measuring facility to ensure continuedreliability of the catalyst.Push or tow starting of the vehicle is to beavoided since unburnt fuel may be enter thecatalyst and result in damage. (Note, it isimpossible to push or tow start a Hyundaimodel equipped with fuel injection since thefuel pump safety interlock will prevent the pumpfrom operating under these conditions).
Operation of the catalyst involves extremelyhigh temperatures being attained within thecatalytic convertor, and although the convertoris fitted with heat shields, it is important that thevehicle is not parked over combustible or vola-tile material which may result in fire.If the above precautions are not adhered to andthe catalyst becomes inoperative, the resultantincrease in core temperature will result in a"melt down" where the catalyst core will meltand subsequently may block the exhaust sys-tem.Due to the fragile nature of the catalyst ele-ment, it is important that damage does notoccur when the vehicle is raised by means of agarage jack. Care must also be exercised toavoid driving over road hazards or debris whichmay cause damage to the catalyst element. H020D01S-GAT ; For a diesel engineAll Hyundai vehicles are equipped with oxida- tion type catalytic converter to reduce the car-bon monoxide, hydrocarbons and particulatecontained in the exhaust gas.
H020C01S-GAT EGR SYSTEM ; For a diesel engine This system helps control oxides of nitrogen by recirculating a part of the exhaust gas into theengine.

Gasohol (a mixture of 90% unleaded gasoline and 10% ethanol or grain alcohol) may be used in your Hyundai.However, if your engine develops driveability problems, the use of 100% unleaded gasoline is recommended.Fuels with unspecified quantities of alcohol, or alcohols other than ethanol, should not be used.
B010A01O-GAT Use Unleaded Gasoline Unleaded gasoline with a Pump Oc- tane Rating of 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher must be used inHyundai vehicle. If leaded gasoline is used, it will cause the catalytic con- verter to become ineffective and theemission control system to malfunc- tion. This can also result in increased maintenance expense. To avoid acci-dental use of leaded fuel, the large nozzle used with leaded gasoline at service stations can not be insertedinto fuel tank opening of Hyundai ve- hicle.
NOTE:
o For some countries, Hyundai
vehicles are designed to use leaded gasoline. When you aregoing to use leaded gasoline, ask to Hyundai dealer whether leaded gasoline in your vehicleis available or not.
o Octane Rating of leaded gaso-
line is same with unleaded one.

incidents due to freezing, paraf-fin oil may be added to the fuel if the temperature drops to below - 10°C. Never use more than 20% paraffin oil.

o Don't drive faster than 88 km/h (55
mph).
o While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
o Use moderate acceleration. Don't start, depress the accelerator pedalfully.
o For the first 300 km (200 miles), try to avoid hard stops.
o Don't lug the engine (in other words, don't drive so slowly in toohigh a gear that the engine "bucks": shift to a lower gear).
