To remove frost or exterior fog on the windshield:
o Set the air flow control to the defrost
( ) position. (The A/C will turn on automatically and "Fresh" mode willbe activated.)
o Set the temperature control to warm.
o Set the fan speed control to position
"3" or "4".
NOTE: When the A/C is operated continu- ously on the floor-defrost level ( )or defrost level ( ), it may cause fog to form on the exterior windshield. If this occurs, set the air flow control tothe face level position ( )and fan speed control to the low position. B730A01L-GAT Operation Tips
o To keep dust or unpleasant fumes
from entering the car through the ventilation system, temporarily set the air intake control at "Recircula-tion". Be sure to return the control to "Fresh" when the irritation has passed to keep fresh air in the ve-hicle. This will help keep the driver alert and comfortable.
o Air for the heating/cooling system is
drawn in through the grilles just aheadof the wind-shield. Care should be taken that these are not blocked byleaves, snow, ice or other obstruc- tions.
o To prevent interior fog on the wind-
shield, set the air intake control tothe fresh air ( ) position, fan speed to the desired position, turn on the airconditioning system, and adjust tem- perature control to desired tempera- ture.

For dehumidified heating:
o Turn on the fan control switch.
o Turn on the air conditioning switch.
The air conditioning indicator light should come on at the same time.
o Set the air intake control to the "Fresh" mode ( ).
o Set the air flow control to the desired
position.
o Adjust the fan control to the desired speed.
o For more rapid action, set the fan at one of the higher speeds.
o Adjust the temperature control to
provide the desired amount of warmth.

o Set the temperature control to "Cool".
("Cool" provides maximum cooling. The temperature may be moderated by moving the control toward "Warm".)
o Adjust the fan control to the desired speed. For greater cooling, turn thefan control to one of the higher speedsor temporarily select the "Recircula- tion" position on the air intake con- trol.

B740B01FC-GAT Air Conditioning Operation Cooling To use the air conditioning to cool the interior:
o Turn on the fan control switch.
o Turn on the air conditioning switch bypushing in on the switch. The air conditioning indicator light should come on at the same time.

o If the interior of the car is hot when you first get in, open the windows for a few minutes to expel the hot air.
o When you are using the air condition-
ing system, keep all windows closedto keep hot air out.
o When moving slowly, as in heavy
traffic, shift to a lower gear. Thisincreases engine speed, which in turn increases the speed of the air conditioning compressor.
o On steep grades, turn the air condi- tioning off to avoid the possibility ofthe engine over-heating.
o During winter months or in periods when the air conditioning is not usedregularly, run the air conditioning onceevery month for a few minutes. This will help circulate the lubricants and keep your system in peak operatingcondition.

B970C01NF-GAT Automatic Operation The FATC (Full Automatic Tempera- ture Control) system automatically con- trols heating and cooling by doing as follows:
1. Push the "AUTO" switch. The indi-
cator light will illuminate confirming that the Face, Floor and/or Bi-Level modes as well as the blower speed and air conditioner will be controlledautomatically. 2. Turn the "TEMP" knob to set the
desired temperature.The temperature will increase to the maximum 32°C(90°F) by turning the knob clockwise.The temperature will decrease to the minimum 17°C(62°F) by turning the knob counterclockwise. NOTE: If the battery has been discharged or disconnected, the temperature mode will reset to Centigrade degrees.This is a normal condition and you can change the temperature mode from Centigrade to Fahrenheit asfollows; Press the "OFF" and "AUTO " switch simultaneously for 3 seconds.The display shows that the unit of temperature is adjusted to Centigrade or Fahrenheit (°C

B980B01NF-AAT Fan Speed Control The fan speed can be set to the desired speed by turning the fan speed control knob. The higher the fan speed is, themore air is delivered. Pressing the "OFF" switch turns off the fan. HFC225
B980A01Y-AAT MANUAL OPERATION The heating and cooling system can be controlled manually as well by pushingbuttons other than the "AUTO" switch. In this state, the system sequentially works according to the order of buttonsselected. The function of the switchs which are not selected will be controlled automati-cally. Press the "AUTO" switch in order to convert to automatic control of the sys-tem.

With the "Fresh" mode selected, air enters the vehicle from the outside andis heated or cooled according to the function selected. With the "Recirculation" mode selected, air from within the passenger compart- ment will be drawn through the heatingsystem and heated or cooled according to the function selected. NOTE: It should be noted that prolonged operation of the heating system in "recirculation" mode will give rise to fogging of the windshield and sidewindows and the air within the pas- senger compartment will become stale. In addition, prolonged use ofthe air conditioning with the "Recir- culation" mode selected may result in the air within the passenger com-partment becoming excessively dry.

CAUTION:
If the windows fog up with the Recir- culation or A.Q.S mode selected, set the air intake control to the Fresh airposition or A.Q.S control to "OFF".
Recirculation mode :
Air from within the passenger compart- ment will be drawn through the heating system and heated or cooled accordingto the function selected.
Exhaust gas cutoff mode :
Air enters the vehicle from the outside.But if exhaust gas enters the vehiclefrom the outside, the exhaust gas cut- off mode ( ) is automatically conv- erted to the ( ) mode, to preventexhaust gas from entering the vehicle. NOTE: It should be noted that prolonged operation of the heating system inrecirculation mode (

B980E01FC-GAT Air Flow Control This is used to direct the flow of air. Air can be directed to the floor, dashboard outlets, or windshield. Four symbolsare used to represent Face, Bi-Level, Floor, Floor-Defrost position. Face-Level
When selecting the "Face-Level", theindicator light will come on, causing air to be discharged through the face levelvents.

Floor-Defrost Level
When selecting the "Floor-Defrost Level" mode, the indicator light will come on and the air will be discharged throughthe windshield defroster nozzle, the floor vents, side defroster nozzle and side ventilator. HFC234

When selecting the "Floor-Level", theindicator light will come on and the airwill be discharged through the floor vents, windsheld defroster nozzle, side defroster nozzle and side ventilator.
B980F02E-GAT Defrost Switch When the "Defrost" button is pressed, the " " mode will be automatically selected and the air will be dischargedthrough the windshield defroster nozzle, side defroster nozzle and side ventila- tor. To assist in defrosting, the airconditioning will operate if ambient tem- perature is higher than 3.5°C and auto- matically turns off if the ambient tem-perature drops below 3.5°C. HFC241
