• If vehicle height is not within ± 10 mm (0.39 in) of the specification, perform the control unit initialization
procedure. Refer to RSU-26, "
Initialization Procedure" .
GENERAL INFORMATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
1. A Four-Wheel Thrust Alignment should be performed.
• This type of alignment is re commended for any NISSAN vehicle.
• The four-wheel “thrust” process helps ensure that the vehicle is properly aligned and the steering wheel
is centered.
• The alignment machine itself should be ca pable of accepting any NISSAN vehicle.
• The alignment machine should be checked to ensure that it is level.
2. Make sure the alignment machine is properly calibrated. • Your alignment machine should be regularly calibrated in order to give correct information.
• Check with the manufacturer of your specific a lignment machine for their recommended Service/Cali-
bration Schedule.
THE ALIGNMENT PROCESS
IMPORTANT: Use only the alignment specifications listed in this Service Manual. Refer to RSU-29, "Wheel
Alignment" .
1. When displaying the alignment settings, many alignm ent machines use “indicators”: (Green/red, plus or
minus, Go/No Go). Do NOT use these indicators.
• The alignment specifications programmed into your alignment machine that operate these indicators
may not be correct.
• This may result in an ERROR.
2. Some newer alignment machines are equipped with an optional “Rolling Compensation” method to “com-
pensate” the sensors (alignment targets or head units). Do NOT use this “Rolling Compensation”
method.
• Use the “Jacking Compensation” method. After installing the alignment targets or head units, raise the vehicle and rotate the wheels 1/2 turn both ways.
• See Instructions in the alignment machine you are using for more information.
CAMBER
1. Measure camber of both the right and left wheels with a suitable alignment gauge and adjust as necessary to specification.
2. If outside of the specified value, adjust the camber using the adjusting bolt in the front lower link.
CAUTION:
After adjusting the camber then check the toe-in.
NOTE:
Camber changes about 0 ° 5' with each graduation of the adjust-
ing bolt.
3. Tighten the adjusting bolt nuts to specification.
TOE-IN
1. Bounce the rear of the vehicle up and down two to three times to stabilize the vehicle height. Refer to RSU-30, "
Wheelarch Height (Unladen*1)" .
2. Push the vehicle straight ahead about 5 m (16 ft). Camber : Refer to
RSU-29, "
Wheel Alignment" .

3. Put a mark on the base line of the tread (rear side) of both of the
tires at the same height as the center of the hub. This will be the
measuring points.
4. Measure the distance (A) from rear side across from tire to tire.
5. Push the vehicle slowly ahead to rotate the wheels 180 ° (a half
turn).
If the wheels are rotated more than 180° (a half turn), then
repeat the above steps. Never push the vehicle backward.
6. Measure the distance (B) from front side across from tire to tire.
7. If the toe-in is outside the specified value, adjust the toe-in using the adjusting bolt in the rear lower link.
CAUTION:
Be sure to adjust equally on RH and LH sides using the
adjusting bolt.
NOTE:
Toe changes about 1.5 mm (0.059 in) [one side] with each grad-
uation of the adjusting bolt.
8. Tighten the adjusting bolt nuts to specification.

Precaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT
PRE-TENSIONER"

The Supplemental Restraint System such as “A IR BAG” and “SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER”, used along
with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain
types of collision. This system includes seat belt switch inputs and dual stage front air bag modules. The SRS
system uses the seat belt switches to determine the front air bag deployment, and may only deploy one front
air bag, depending on the severity of a collision and w hether the front occupants are belted or unbelted.
Information necessary to service the system safely is included in the SR and SB section of this Service Man-
ual.
WARNING:
• To avoid rendering the SRS inopera tive, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death in
the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be performed by
an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer.
• Improper maintenance, including in correct removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to personal
injury caused by unintent ional activation of the system. For re moval of Spiral Cable and Air Bag
Module, see the SR section.
• Do not use electrical test equipmen t on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. SRS wiring harn esses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harnesses or har-
ness connectors.
PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING POWER TOOLS (AIR OR ELECTRIC) AND HAMMERS
WARNING:
• When working near the Airbag Diagnosis Sensor Unit or other Airbag System sensors with the Igni-
tion ON or engine running, DO NOT use air or electri c power tools or strike near the sensor(s) with a
hammer. Heavy vibration could activate the sensor( s) and deploy the air bag(s), possibly causing
serious injury.
• When using air or electric power tools or hammers , always switch the Ignition OFF, disconnect the
battery, and wait at least 3 minu tes before performing any service.
Precaution for Seat Belt ServiceINFOID:0000000005266526
CAUTION:
• Before removing the seat belt pre-tensioner assembl y, turn the ignition switch OFF, disconnect both
battery terminals and wait at least three minutes. For approximately three minutes after the battery
terminals have been removed, it is still possible for the air bag and seat belt pretensioner to deploy.
Therefore, do not attempt work on any SRS connectors or wires until at least three minutes have
passed.
• After replacing or reinstalling seat belt pre-tensioner assembly, or reconnecting seat belt pre-ten- sioner assembly connector, make sure entire SRS operates properly. Refer to SRC-13, "
SRS Opera-
tion Check".
• Do not disassemble buckle or seat belt assembly.
• Replace anchor bolts if th ey are deformed or worn out.
• Never oil tongue and buckle.
• If any component of seat belt assembly is questionable, do not re pair. Replace the whole seat belt
assembly.
• If webbing is cut, frayed, or damaged, replace seat belt assembly.
• When replacing seat belt assembly, use a genuine NISSAN seat belt assembly.
AFTER A COLLISION
WARNING:
• Inspect all seat belt assemblies including retract ors and attaching hardware after any collision.
• NISSAN recommends that all seat belt assemblies in use during a collision be replaced unless the
collision was minor and the belts show no damage and continue to operate properly. Failure to do so
could result in serious personal injury in an acci dent. Seat belt assemblies not in use during a colli-
sion should also be replaced if either damage or im proper operation is noted. Seat belt pre-tensioner

Precaution for Rear SuspensionINFOID:0000000005148201
• When installing the rubber bushings, the final ti ghtening must be done under unladen condition and with the
tires on level ground. Oil will shorten the life of the r ubber bushings, so wipe off any spilled oil immediately.
• Unladen condition means the fuel tank, engine coolant and lubricants are at the full specification. The spare tire, jack, hand tools, and mats are in their designated positions.
• After installing suspension components, check the wheel alignment.
• Caulking nuts are not reusable. Always use new caulking nuts for installation. New caulking nuts are pre-
oiled, do not apply any additional lubrication.

• Remove and install all control units after disconnecti ng both battery cables with the ignition knob in the
″ LOCK ″ position.
• Always use CONSULT-III to perform self-diagnosis as a part of each function inspection after finishing work.
If DTC is detected, perform trouble diagnosis according to self-diagnostic results.
For models equipped with the Intelligent Key system and NATS , an electrically controlled steering lock mech-
anism is adopted on the key cylinder.
For this reason, if the battery is disconnected or if the battery is discharged, the steering wheel will lock and
steering wheel rotation will become impossible.
If steering wheel rotation is required when battery power is interrupted, follow the procedure below before
starting the repair operation.
OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Connect both battery cables. NOTE:
Supply power using jumper cables if battery is discharged.
2. Use the Intelligent Key or mechanical key to turn the ignition switch to the ″ACC ″ position. At this time, the
steering lock will be released.
3. Disconnect both battery cables. The steering lock will remain released and the steering wheel can be
rotated.
4. Perform the necessary repair operation.

• NATS trouble diagnosis, system initialization and additional registration of other mechanical key IDs must be
carried out using CONSULT-III.
When NATS initialization has been completed, the ID of the inserted mechanical key or mechanical key IDs
can be carried out.
• Possible symptom of NATS malfunction is “Engine cannot start”. Identify the possible causes according to
“Work Flow”, Refer to SEC-4, "
Work Flow".
• If ECM other than Genuine NISSAN is installed, the engine cannot be started. For ECM replacement proce- dure, refer to SEC-9, "
ECM RE-COMMUNICATING FUNCTION : Description".
PRECAUTIONS FOR KEY REGISTRATION
• The key registration is a procedure that erases the current NATS ID once, and then re-registers a new ID.
Therefore the registered Intelligent Key is necessary for this procedure. Before starting the registration oper-
ation collect all registered Inte lligent Keys from the customer.
• The NATS ID registration is the procedure that regi sters the ID stored into the transponder (integrated in
mechanical key) to BCM.
The Intelligent Key ID registration is the procedure that registers the ID to Intelligent Key unit.
• When performing the Intelligent Key system registration only, the engine cannot be started by inserting the
key into the key cylinder. When performing the NATS r egistration only, the engine cannot be started by using
the mechanical key.
SECURITY INDICATOR
• Always flashes with ignition knob released (igniti on knob switch: LOCK) condition on ignition knob LOCK
position.
• Always flashes with ignition knob released (ignition knob switch: LOCK) c\
ondition on mechanical key removed position.
MAINTENANCE INFORMATION
CAUTION:
It is necessary to perform NATS ID registrati on when replacing any of the following part.
If it's not (or fail to do so), the electrical system may not operate properly.
• Intelligent Key unit
• BCM
•ECM

Precaution for SRS "AIR BAG" and "S EAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER" Service

• Do not use electrical test equipment to check SRS ci rcuits unless instructed to in this Service Manual.
• Before servicing the SRS, turn ignition switch OFF, disconnect both battery terminals and wait at least 3 min- utes.
For approximately 3 minutes after the terminals are remov ed, it is still possible for the air bags and seat belt
pre-tensioners to deploy. Therefore, do not work on any SRS connectors or wires until at least 3 minutes
have passed.
• The air bag diagnosis sensor unit must always be installed with the arrow mark “ ⇐” pointing toward the front
of the vehicle for proper operation. Also check air bag diagnosis sensor unit for cracks, deformities or rust
before installation and replace as required.
• The spiral cable must be aligned with the neutral position since its rotations are limited. Do not attempt to
turn steering wheel or column after removal of steering gear.
• Handle air bag module carefully. Always place driver and front passenger air bag modules with the pad side facing upward and seat mounted front side air bag module standing with the stud bolt side facing down.
• Conduct self-diagnosis to check entire SRS for proper function after replacing any components.
• After air bag inflates, the front instrument panel assembly should be replaced if damaged.
Precaution Necessary for Steering Wheel Rotation After Battery Disconnect

Precaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT
PRE-TENSIONER"

The Supplemental Restraint System such as “A IR BAG” and “SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER”, used along
with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain
types of collision. This system includes seat belt switch inputs and dual stage front air bag modules. The SRS
system uses the seat belt switches to determine the front air bag deployment, and may only deploy one front
air bag, depending on the severity of a collision and w hether the front occupants are belted or unbelted.
Information necessary to service the system safely is included in the SR and SB section of this Service Man-
ual.
WARNING:
• To avoid rendering the SRS inopera tive, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death in
the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be performed by
an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer.
• Improper maintenance, including in correct removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to personal
injury caused by unintent ional activation of the system. For re moval of Spiral Cable and Air Bag
Module, see the SR section.
• Do not use electrical test equipmen t on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. SRS wiring harn esses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harnesses or har-
ness connectors.
PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING POWER TOOLS (AIR OR ELECTRIC) AND HAMMERS
WARNING:
• When working near the Airbag Diagnosis Sensor Unit or other Airbag System sensors with the Igni-
tion ON or engine running, DO NOT use air or electri c power tools or strike near the sensor(s) with a
hammer. Heavy vibration could activate the sensor( s) and deploy the air bag(s), possibly causing
serious injury.
• When using air or electric power tools or hammers , always switch the Ignition OFF, disconnect the
battery, and wait at least 3 minu tes before performing any service.

• Do not use electrical test equipment to check SRS ci rcuits unless instructed to in this Service Manual.
• Before servicing the SRS, turn ignition switch OFF, disconnect both battery cables and wait at least 3 min- utes.
For approximately 3 minutes after the cables are removed, it is still possible for the air bag and seat belt pre-
tensioner to deploy. Therefore, do not work on any SR S connectors or wires until at least 3 minutes have
passed.
• The air bag diagnosis sensor unit must always be installed with the arrow mark “ ⇐” pointing toward the front
of the vehicle for proper operation. Also check air bag diagnosis sensor unit for cracks, deformities or rust
before installation and replace as required.
• The spiral cable must be aligned with the neutral position since its rotations are limited. Do not attempt to
turn steering wheel or column after removal of steering gear.
• Handle air bag module carefully. Always place driver and front passenger air bag modules with the pad side facing upward and seat mounted front side air bag module standing with the stud bolt side facing down.
• Conduct self-diagnosis to check entire SRS for proper function after replacing any components.
• After air bag inflates, the front instrument panel assembly should be replaced if damaged.
