1.CHECK PARKING BRA KE SWITCH OPERATION
Check that brake warning lamp in combination meter turns ON/OFF when parking brake is operated.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> INSPECTION END
NO >> Proceed to diagnosis procedure. Refer to BRC-117, "

1.CHECK PARKING BRAKE SWITCH CIRCUIT
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect parking brake switch harness connector.
3. Disconnect combination meter harness connector.
4. Check continuity between parking brake switch harness connector and combination meter harness con-
nector.
5. Check continuity between parking brake switch harness connector and ground.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 2.
NO >> Repair or replace error-detected parts.
2.CHECK PARKING BRAKE SWITCH
Check parking brake switch. Refer to BRC-118, "
Component Inspection".
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 3.
NO >> Replace parking brake switch. Refer to PB-5, "
Removal and Installation".
3.CHECK PARKING BRAKE SWITCH SIGNAL
With CONSULT-III.
1. Connect parking brake switch harness connector.
2. Connect combination meter harness connector.
3. Select “ABS”, “DATA MONITOR” and “PARK BRAKE SW ” according to this order. Check parking brake
switch signal.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> INSPECTION END
NO >> GO TO 4.
4.CHECK COMBINATION METER
Check combination meter. Refer to MWI-30, "
CONSULT-III Function".

1.CHECK VDC OFF SWITCH CIRCUIT
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) harness connector.
3. Disconnect SNOW MODE / TOW MODE / VDC OFF s witch assembly (2WD models) or 4WD switch
assembly (4WD models) harness connector.
4. Check continuity between ABS actuator and elec tric unit (control unit) harness connector and SNOW
MODE / TOW MODE / VDC O FF switch assembly (2WD models) or 4WD switch assembly (4WD models)
harness connector.

5. Check continuity between ABS actuator and electr ic unit (control unit) harness connector terminal and
ground.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 2.

Check continuity between SNOW MODE / TOW MODE / VDC OFF switch assembly (2WD models) or 4WD
switch assembly (4WD models) harness connector terminal and ground.

2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
3. Check that data monitor displays “On” for approx. 1 second after ignition switch is turned ON and then
changes to “Off”.
CAUTION:
Never start engine.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 4.
NO >> Replace ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit). Refer to BRC-137, "

4.CHECK COMBINATION METER
Check combination meter. Refer to MWI-30, "

3.CHECK BRAKE WARNING LAMP FUNCTION (3)
Check that brake warning lamp in combination meter turns ON/OFF when brake fluid level switch is operated
while brake fluid level in reservoir tank is with the specified level.
NOTE:
Brake warning lamp turns ON when brake fluid is less than the specified level (when brake fluid level switch is
ON).
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> INSPECTION END
NO >> Check brake fluid level switch system. Refer to BRC-103, "
Diagnosis Procedure".

 It displays for up to 5 minutes and then stops.
 If multiple malfunctions exist, up to 6 DTCs can be stored in memory at the most, and the most recent
one is displayed first.
WHEN THE ON BOARD SELF-DIAGNOSIS DOES NOT START
If the on board self-diagnosis does not start, check the following items.
HOW TO ERASE ON BOARD SELF-DIAGNOSIS
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Start the engine, and then start the on board self-diagnosis.
3. Press the CANCEL switch 5 times, and then press the DIS-
TANCE switch 5 times under the condition that the on board
self-diagnosis starts.
NOTE:
 Complete the operation within 10 seconds after pressing the
CANCEL switch first.
 If the operation is not completed within 10 seconds, repeat the procedure from step 1.
4. DTC 55 is displayed after erasing. NOTE:
DTCs for existing malfunction can not be erased.
5. Turn ignition switch OFF, and finish the diagnosis.
