Engine - Flexplate4.0L SC V8 - AJ26
In-vehicle Repair
Removal
Installation
1. Open the engine compartment and fit paint protection sheets.
2. Disconnect the batt ery ground cable.
Remove the battery cover.
3. Remove the Engine Covers, Air Intake Tube, Catalytic
Converters and the Front Muffler. Drain the transmission fluid
and remove the transmission for access.
Refer to Operation 44.20. 01 Transmission Remove, in
Section 307-01B, which includes each of the above
operations.
4. Remove the drive plate.
Prevent the drive plate from rotating by use of a small
wedge in the ring gear.
Remove the bolts which secure the drive plate to the
crankshaft.
Remove the drive plate.
5. Clean the crankshaft mating face and any other components
which are to be refitted.
1. Fit the drive plate.
Fit and align the drive plate to the crankshaft.
Fit, but not tighten, the bolt s which secure the drive plate
to the crankshaft.
Prevent the drive plate from rotating by use of a small
wedge in the ring gear.
2. Tighten the securing bolts in two stages and in the order
shown.

STAGE ONE tighten to 14 - 16 Nm.
3. Tighten the securing bolts in two stages and in the order
shown.
STAGE TWO tighten to 95 - 125 Nm.
4. Refit the Transmission, Catalytic Converters and the Front
Muffler, Air Intake Tube an d Engine Covers. Refill the
transmission with new fluid.
Refer to Operation 44.20. 01 Transmission Install, in
Section 307-01B, which includes each of the above
operations.
5. Remove the paint protection sheets and close the engine
compartment cover.
6. Connect the battery and fit the battery cover.
Refer to the Battery Reconnection Procedure 86.15.15.

Engine - Intake Camshaft LH
In-vehicle Repair
Removal
Installation
1. Open the engine compartment and fit paintwork protection
sheets.
2. Set the engine compartment cover to the service access
position.
3. Disconnect the batt ery ground cable.
Remove the battery cover.
4. Remove the Timing Cover. Re fer to Operation 12.65.01.
5. Remove the VVT Unit from the B-Bank. Refer to Operation
12.65.71. This also includes the VVT Bush Carrier Assembly,
Primary Chain and Tensioner.
6. Remove the camshaft locking tool 303 - 530 (fitted for
previous operation).
7. Remove the camshaft.
1. Remove the bolts which secure the camshaft caps; loosen them evenly, in stages.
2. Remove the camshaft caps. Note their orientation and
markings - each is marked with its position (a
number) and orientation (an arrow).
3. Remove the camshaft from the engine.
8. Clean and inspect all relevant components.
1. Apply oil (EP-90) to the camsha ft and bearing surfaces, as
follows:
To the upper face of each be aring surface (two places) in
the cylinder head.
To the upper face of each be aring surface (two places) in
each bearing cap.
On the cam lobes ONLY, not on the base circle area.
2. Refit the camshaft.

1. Fit the camshaft to position in the cylinder head, with the timing flats uppermost.
2. Fit the camshaft caps to their respective locations (0 to 4 from the front) and in the correct orientation
(arrow to front of engine).
3. Fit and tighten the cap securing bolts. Tighten evenly,
in stages, to 9 - 11 Nm.
3. Fit the camshaft locking tool 303 - 530 (fitted for following
operation) align the camshaft as necessary.
4. Refit the VVT Unit to the A-Bank. Refer to Operation 12.65.71.
This also includes the VVT Bu sh Carrier Assembly, Primary
Chain and Tensioner.
5. With the camshaft (303 - 530) and crankshaft (303 - 531)
setting tools removed, after the previous operation, adjust the
valve clearances on the inlet camshaft. refer to Operation
12.29.48.
6. Refit the Timing Cover. Re fer to Operation 12.65.01.
7. Move the engine compartment co ver from the service position
and connect the gas struts.
8. Remove the paint protection sheets and close the cover.
9. Connect the battery and fit the battery cover.
Refer to the Battery Reconnection Procedure 86.15.15.

Engine - Intake Camshaft RH
In-vehicle Repair
Removal
Installation
1. Open the engine compartment and fit paintwork protection
sheets.
2. Set the engine compartment cover to the service access
position.
3. Disconnect the batt ery ground cable.
Remove the battery cover.
4. Remove the Timing Cover. Re fer to Operation 12.65.01.
5. Remove the VVT Unit from the A-Bank. Refer to Operation
12.65.70. This also includes the VVT Bush Carrier Assembly,
Primary Chain and Tensioner.
6. Remove the camshaft locking tool 303 - 530 (fitted for
previous operation).
7. Remove the camshaft.
1. Remove the bolts which secure the camshaft caps; loosen them evenly, in stages.
2. Remove the camshaft caps. Note their orientation and
markings - each is marked with its position (a
number) and orientation (an arrow).
3. Remove the camshaft from the engine.
8. Clean and inspect all relevant components.

1. Open the engine compartment and fit paintwork protection
sheets.
2. Carefully remove the en gine covers, taking care not to damage
the plastic fixings or the rubber inserts.
3. Depress
urise the fuel system.

sure that the ignition is
switched off and remove the
valve cap from the fuel cross-over pipe. Place a cloth
under the valve to collect any spillage.

adjacent to the vehicle. Remove the lid.
4. Connect the fuel injection pres sure test equipment 310 - 058

20. Release the induction elbow su pport; working from the right
hand side.
1. Disconnect the vacuum pi pe from the centre of the
induction elbow.
2. Remove the upper bolt from the induction elbow support bracket.
21. Release the induction elbow su pport; working from the left
hand side.
1. Disconnect the vacuum pipe from the front of the
induction elbow.
2. Disconnect the engine breather T-piece from the induction elbow.
3. Remove the upper bolt from the induction elbow support bracket.
4. Loosen, but do not remove , the lower two bolts at the
induction elbow support bracket.
22. Disconnect the electrical conne ctor from each fuel injector.
23. Disconnect the fuel feed hose.
1. Disconnect the fuel f eed hose at the Quick Fit
connector, using special tool 310 - 044.

8. Refit the Manifold Assembly to the Engine, as follows.
9. Fit eight new seals to the inlet manifold ports.
10. Fit the inlet manifold to the engine.
1. Fit the inlet manifold.
2. Fit the ten bolts which secure the inlet manifold.
11. Connect the fuel feed hose.
1. Connect the fuel feed hose at the Quick Fit connector. Ensure that the hose is fully seated to the feed pipe.
12. Connect the fuel return hose.
1. Connect the fuel return hose at the Quick Fit
connector. Ensure th at the hose is fully seated to the
feed pipe.

13. Reconnect the electrical connector to each fuel injector.
14. Refit the induction elbow support ; working from the left hand
side.
1. Fit the upper bolt to the induction elbow support
bracket.
2. Tighten the lower two bolts at the induction elbow support bracket.
3. Connect the engine breather T-piece to the induction elbow.
4. Connect the vacuum pipe to the front of the induction
elbow.
15. Fit the induction elbow support; working from the right hand
side.
1. Fit the upper bolt to the induction elbow support
bracket.
2. Reconnect the vacuum pi pe to the centre of the
induction elbow.
16. Fit the throttle body.
1. Fit a new gasket to the throttle body.
2. Position the throttle body to the induction elbow.
