1DST SYSTEM
(Dynamic Steering Torque)
This system is incorporated with the E SP control unit and
s ugges ts s teering corrections whilst driving via the electric
power steering. The system applies a torque to the steer-
ing wheel which increa se s the s afety perception of the ve-
hicle, maintaining control of the steering and making the
intervention of the Advanced ES P system less intrus ive.
SPORT FUNCTION
(for versions/markets , where provided)
The vehicle ma y be equipped with a system that allows a
choice between two s ty les of driving, normal and sports .
Pressing the S PORT button fig. 71 produces s porty dri-
ving featuring higher acceleration re spons e and more ef-
fort required on the s teering wheel to produce thi s effect.
When the function is active, “S” is lit up in the ins trument
panel. Press the button again to turn the function off and
re store the normal driving setting.

Under no circumstances should aftermarket
operations be carried out involving steering
system or steering column modifications (e.g.
installation of anti-theft device). This could nega-
tively affect performance and safety, invalidate the
warranty, cause serious safety problems and also
result in vehicle non-compliance with type-ap-
proval requirements.
Before servicing the car, switch off the engine
and remove the key from the ignition device
to activate the steering lock. This is especially
important when the car wheels are not touching the
ground. If this is not possible (i.e. if the key must be
kept in the MAR position or the engine must be kept
running), remove the main electric power steering
system fuse.On some versions, with the CITY function ac-
tivated, the SPORT function is not available.
To activate the SPORT function, deactivate the
CITY function and vice versa, because they are rec-
iprocally incompatible.
IMPORTANT The function i s activated about 5 s econds
after the S PORT button is pressed.
IMPORTANT The s teering may become stiffer during
parking manoeuvres including a great deal of s teering.
This is normal and caus ed by the system preventing the
electric control motor overheating. No repair s are needed.
The power s teering system will s tart working normall y
again the next time the car i s u sed.

In “normal” operating mode, active shock abs orbers ad-
jus t car s uspens ions, adapting them to the ty pe of road
and to the driving stresse s, improving driving comfort in
particular on rough terrain.
In “S PORT” operating mode, the letter “S ” is lit up on the
ins trument panel dis play. This function produces a sports
driving setting featuring greater res ponsiveness during ac-
celeration and a s ports driving feeling with the steering,
a s well as the regulation and di stribution of the damping
at the s hock abs orbers guaranteeing greater vehicle pre-
cis ion and reaction, whils t maintaining a good level of
comfort. The driver will notice that the vehicle i s more
precis e when cornering and quicker in changing direction.
This function is particularly useful whenever maximum
performance i s required for a short time (e.g. when over-
taking).
IMPOR

TANT During acceleration, when the SPORT func-
tion is used, the s teering may s hudder, which i s t ypical
of a s ports setting.
IMPORTANT The function is activated about 5 seconds
after the S PORT button is pressed.
REACTIVE SUSPENSION SYSTEM
(Active shock absorber system)
This system interacts with the Sport function (s ee “Sport
function” paragraph).
The SPORT button, fig. 72, allow s y ou to choos e between
two different driving s ettings depending on the route ty pe
and on the road s urface:
– with the button releas ed: “normal” mode
– with the button pressed: “S PORT” mode.

OPERATING CONDITIONS FOR ACTIVATION
Once switched on, the system becomes active only if the
following condition s are met:
❍ always keep at lea st one hand on the steering wheel;
❍ vehicle speed between 65 km/h and 180 km/h;
❍ pres ence of lane demarcation line s not deteriorated and
vis ible on both sides ;
❍ suitable vis ibility conditions ;
❍ straight line or wide radiu s bends ;
❍ visual field condition s ufficient (safe distance from ve-
hicle in front).
OPERATION
The
system is not on when the vehicle i s s tarted. It i s on-
l y activated when the button
ein the das hboard is
pressed. The LED on the button s witches on to confirm
that the system has been activated and a dedicated me s-
s age appear s on the dis play. When activated, the system
s tarts recognis ing operating condition s (condition signalled
to the driver by the LED on the button and the
esym-
bol on the ins trument panel flas hing). Once the system has
recognis ed the operating condition s, it become s active.
Therefore: the
eicon in the ins trument panel s witches off
and the LED on the button remain s on cons tantly.
IMPORTANT If the operating condition s are no longer
pres ent then the system will deactivate. Thi s i s s ignalled
to the driver by the LED on the button fla shing and the
amber
eicon on the ins trument panel flas hing.

DEACTIVATING THE S YSTEM
Manual mode
The system can be deactivated b y pressing button A - fig.
73 in the das hboard.
Confirmation that the system has been switched off is giv-
en by the LED in the button and the message 1 - fig.74
in the dis play going out.
S
Y STEM AC TIVATION/DEAC TIVATION
With the system on, if the vehicle approaches one of the
lines defining the s ide of the lane, a torque is applied to
the steering wheel to let the driver know which direction
to steer in order to s tay within the lane. If the driver turn s
on the direction indicator in order to change lane s or for
overtaking, then the system will s witch off momentarily.
If the driver wi shes to change lanes without turning the
direction indicator on, then there will be a warning from
the steering wheel that the y are about to cross the line.
If the driver continues with the manoeuvre to change lane s,
the system will be temporaril y deactivated and then switch
back on again once it ha s r

ecognized the new driving lane.
The driver i s advis ed of this temporary deactivation b y the
flas hing of the LED on the button and the fla shing of the
eamber symbol on the di splay .
IMPORTANT The force applied to the steering wheel by
the system is s ufficient for the driver to notice it but they
can eas ily override it and maintain control of the vehicle.

SY STEM FAILURE
In the event of malfunction, the system advises the dri-
ver of the fault through message 3 - fig. 74 on the dis -
play and an acous tic signal.
IMPORTANT
The driving advi sor does not work due to a malfunction
of the following s afety systems : ABS, ESP, ASR, DS T
and TTC.
The driving advisor is not an automatic dri-
ving system and does not replace the driver
in controlling the trajectory of the car. The
driver is personally responsible for maintaining a
suitable level of attention to the traffic and road con-
ditions and for controlling the trajectory of the ve-
hicle safely.
Automatic mode
The system can be deactivated automaticall y (if the sys-
tem is required it will therefore need to be reactivated).
The driver is advised that the system has been turned off
automatically by three cons ecutive acous tic signals and
the message 1 – fig. 74 in the di splay in the following con-
ditions :
❍ the driver does not keep their hands on the steering
wheel (indication 2 - fig. 74 i s s hown on the ins tru-
ment panel and an acous tic signal sounds until the dri-
ver places his hands back on the wheel. Thi s is con-
s idered a dangerous condition and the system is au-
tomatically deactivated);
❍ intervention of the vehicle s afety systems (ABS, ESP,
A SR, DS T and TTC);
❍ the driver activates the sports driving s etting pr

essing
the SPORT button (for vers ions/markets where pro-
vided).
IMPORTANT The system cannot be activated if the dri-
ver has previous ly s elected the s ports driving mode. The
impossibility of using the system will be communicated to
the driver by three consecutive beeps and by the message
1 - fig. 74 in the di splay .

ADVANCED ESP SYSTEM
(ELECTRONIC STABILITY
PROGRAM)
This is an electronic system controlling car s tability in the
event of ty re grip loss, helping to maintain directional con-
trol.
The Advanced E SP system is therefore particularly use-
ful when road surface grip condition s change.
With the Advanced E SP system as well as the ASR (trac-
tion control with intervention on the brake s and the en-
gine) plus the HILL HOLDER (device for hill starts with-
out us ing the brakes ) and also MSR (adjus tment of engine
braking force with gear down shift), HBA (automatic in-
creas e in braking pressure during emergency braking),
ABS (preventing the wheel s from locking and slipping on
all road s urfaces during s harp braking and D ST (appli-
cation of force on the steering wheel for steering correc-
tion) functions are all available. S
Y STEM INTERVENTION
This is s ignalled b y the blinking of the á warning light on
the ins trument panel, to inform the driver that the car i s
in critical s tability and grip condition s.
S witching the system on
The Advanced ES P system comes on automaticall y when
the vehicle is started and cannot be turned off.
Fault indications
In the event of a failur

e, the Advanced ES P system will be
automaticall y s witched off and á warning light will ap-
pear cons tantly in the ins trument panel along with a me s-
s age on the reconfigurable multifunction di splay . The LED
on the AS R OFF button will als o light up (see “Instrument
panel warning light s” chapter). In thi s cas e, go to a Lan-
cia Dealers hip.
The performance of the Advanced ESP sys-
tem should not encourage the driver to take
unnecessary risks. Driving style must always
be adapted to road conditions, visibility and traf-
fic. The driver is ultimately responsible for road
safety.

“DUALDRIVE” ELECTRIC POWER
STEERING SYSTEM
This is an electrically controlled power s teering system
called “Dualdrive”. It i s only operational with the ignition
key turned to MAR and the engine running; it can be cu s-
tomis ed by the driver according to the driving condition s.
IMPORTANT When turning the ignition ke y quickly , com-
plete power s teering functionality may be achieved after
1-2 seconds . C
ITY FUNC TION
A CTIVATION/DEAC TIVATION
Press button A - fig.76 to activate/deactivate the function.
When the function i s active, the CITY warning light on
the ins trument panel turns on.
When the CITY function i s on, the s teering wheel effort
i s lighter and parking operation s are eas ier: therefore this
function is particularl y u seful for driving in cit y centres .

FAULT INDICAT I O NS
Any failure of the electric power s teering is indicated by
ins trument panel g warning light coming on together with
a message in the reconfigurable multifunction di splay . In
the event of electric power s teering system failure, the
car can be driven with mechanical steering.
IMPORTANT In s ome circumstances, factors independent
of the electric power s teering could cause the g warning
light on the ins trument panel to come on. In this case, stop
the car immediately , switch off the engine for about 20
s econds and then res tart the engine. If the gwarning light
remain s on, together with the me ssage on the reconfig-
urable multifunction di splay , contact a Lancia Dealers hip
a s s oon as possible.
