HILL HOLDER SYSTEM (where provided)
It is an integral part of the ESP system and
facilitates starting on an uphill slope.
It is automatically activated in the following
conditions:
Uphill: vehicle stationary on a road with gradient
above 2%, engine running, clutch and brake pedals
pressed and gearbox in neutral position or gear
engaged (reverse excluded).
Downhill: stationary on a road with gradient above
2%, engine running, clutch and brake pedals
pressed and reverse engaged.
During pickup the ESP system control unit
maintains the wheel braking pressure until the
engine torque required for start up is reached, or
anyway for a maximum of 2 seconds, so that the
right foot can be moved easily from the brake pedal
to the accelerator pedal.After 2 seconds and without starting the car, the
system automatically deactivates gradually releasing
the braking pressure. During this phase it is possible
to hear the typical brake mechanical disengaging
noise which indicates the car is about to move off.
Failure warnings
In the event of failure, the instrument cluster
warning light
*will come on together with the
message on the multifunction display.
IMPORTANT The Hill Holder system is not a
parking brake therefore, never leave the car without
engaging the parking brake, the first gear and
turning the engine off.

WARNING
During the use of the spare wheel, the ESP system carries on working.
However, you must remind that the spare wheel presents dimensions smaller
than the standard tyre and therefore the grip is reduced as to the other car
tyres.
WARNING
For correct operation of the ESP system, the tyres must absolutely be of the same
brand and type on all wheels, in perfect conditions and, above all, of the type,
brand and size specified.

TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING
SYSTEM - T.P.M.S.
(where provided)
The car is fitted with the Tyre Pressure Monitoring
System (T.P.M.S.). This system consists of a radio-
frequency sensor, installed on each wheel (on the
rim inside the tyre) that sends pressure information
to the control unit.
IMPORTANT System control unit monitors the
pressure of the four car tyres but not the space-
saver spare wheel. It is therefore recommended to
always check also the space-saver spare wheel
pressure.IMPORTANT Since the system only indicates
pressure values lower than the prescribed ones (see
paragraph "Inflation pressures" in section
"Technical Specifications"), pay the utmost
attention when checking or inflating tyres.
Excessive pressure impairs road holding, increases
suspension and wheel stress and causes abnormal
tyre wear.
IMPORTANT Tyre pressure should be checked with
tyres rested and cold. Should it become necessary
for whatever reason to check pressure with hot
tyres, do not reduce pressure although it is higher
than the prescribed value but repeat the check when
tyres are cold.
WARNING
The presence of the T.P.M.S. system does not exempt the driver from checking tyre
and space-saver spare wheel pressure at regular intervals (see paragraph
"Wheels" in section "Technical specification").
Page 147 of 346
IMPORTANT NOTES ON TYRE PRESSURE
MONITORING SYSTEM (T.P.M.S.)
IMPORTANT Failure indications will not be stored
and therefore will not be displayed when turning
the engine off and on again. If failure persists, the
control unit will send warning indications to the
instrument panel only after a few seconds when the
car is moving.
IMPORTANT T.P.M.S. system cannot indicate
sudden tyre pressure drops (e.g.: tyre burst).
In this event, brake the car cautiously and avoid
sudden steering.
IMPORTANT Cross switching of rear tyres with
front tyres or replacing standard tyres with winter
tyres and vice versa involves T.P.M.S. system set-up
that shall be performed at Lancia Dealerships only.IMPORTANT The T.P.M.S. system requires specific
equipment. Apply to Lancia Dealerships for
compatible accessories (wheels, wheel caps, etc.).
Other accessories could impair regular system
operation.
Due to the particular valve characteristics, use only
Lancia-approved tyre repair sealing fluids. Other
products could impair regular system operation.
IMPORTANT Tyre pressure could change according
to outside temperature. For this reason the T.P.M.S.
system could temporarily indicate low tyre pressure.
In this event check pressure with cold tyres and
restore proper inflation values if required.
IMPORTANT If the car is fitted with T.P.M.S.
system, tyre and/or rim changing should be
performed adopting special precautions. To avoid
bad installation of sensors or damages, have these
operations performed by Lancia Dealership
qualified personnel only.
IMPORTANT If after repairing a punctured tyre
with the Fix&Go kit and restoring the initial
conditions the flat tyre warning light continues to
stay on, contact Lancia Dealership.

CONTAINING RUNNING COSTS
Here are some suggestions which may help you to
keep the running costs of your car down and lower
the amount of toxic emissions released into the
atmosphere.
GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
Car maintenance
Have checks and adjustments carried out in
accordance with the “Service schedule”.Tyres
Check the pressure of the tyres routinely at an
interval of no more than 4 weeks: if the pressure is
too low, consumption levels increase as resistance to
rolling is higher.
Unnecessary loads
Do not travel with too much luggage stowed in the
boot. The weight of the car (especially when driving
in town) and its trim greatly affects consumption
and stability.

SNOW TYRES
Use snow tyres of the same size as the normal tyres
provided with the car.
Lancia Dealership will be happy to provide advice
concerning the most suitable type of tyre for the
customer’s requirements.
For the type of tyre to be used, inflation pressures
and the specifications of snow tyres, follow the
instructions given in paragraph “Wheels” in section
“Technical specifications”.
The winter features of these tyres are reduced
considerably when the tread depth is below 4 mm.
In this case, they should be replaced.Due to the snow tyre features, under normal
conditions of use or on long motorway journeys, the
performance of these tyres is lower than that of
normal tyres. It is therefore necessary to limit their
use to the purposes for which they are certified.
IMPORTANT When snow tyres are used with a max
speed index below the one that can be reached by
the car (increased by 5%), place a notice in the
passenger compartment, plainly in the driver’s view
which states the max permissible speed of the snow
tyres (as per EC Directive).
All four tyres should be the same (brand and track)
to ensure greater safety when driving and braking
and better driveability.
Remember that it is inappropriate to change the
direction of rotation of tyres.

CAR INACTIVITY
If the car is to be left inactive for longer than a
month, the following precautions should be noted:
❒park the car in covered, dry and if possible well-
ventilated premises;
❒engage a gear;
❒check that the handbrake is not engaged;
❒disconnect battery terminals (first disconnect the
negative terminal) and check the battery charge.
This check is to be repeated every three months
when the car is left inactive. Recharge if the
optical indicator shows a dark colour without the
central green area;
❒clean and protect the painted parts using
protective wax;
❒clean and protect the shiny metal parts using
special compounds readily available;❒sprinkle talcum powder on the rubber
windscreen and rear window wiper blades and
lift them off the glass;
❒slightly open the windows;
❒cover the car with a cloth or perforated plastic
sheet. Do not use sheets of non-perforated plastic
as they do not allow moisture on the car body to
evaporate;
❒inflate tyres to +0.5 bar above the normal
specified pressure and check it at intervals;
❒if you don’t disconnect the battery from the
electric system, check its charge every month
and recharge it if the optical indicator shows a
dark colour without the central green area;
❒do not drain the engine cooling system.
