Sound system installation
The sound system must be installed
in the space occupied by the central
oddment compartment where the
wiring leads. To extract the compart-
ment, press in the points shown at the
retainer systems.
SOUND SYSTEM
(for versions/markets, where provided)
Refer to the supplement to this
Owner’s Handbook for operating the
sound system with CD or with CD
MP3.
SOUND SYSTEM SETUP
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The system consists of:
❒sound system power wires
❒front and rear speaker power wires
❒aerial power wire
❒2 tweeters on front pillars (30W
max power each);
❒2 mid-woofers on front doors (165
mm diameter, 30W max power
each);
❒2 full-range speaker on front doors
(165 mm diameter, 30W max
power each).
fig. 113L0D0120m
It is advisable to have the
sound system and interfer-
ence filter installed by a
Lancia Dealership.
GSI SYSTEM
(for versions with
mechanical
gearbox only)
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The gear shift indication makes it
possible, on cars with a manual gear-
box, to suggest the driver should
change gear (higher gear: shift up, see
Fig. aor lower gear: shift down, see
Fig. b), through a dedicated indica-
tion in the control panel. This sug-
gestion to change gear is designed to
improve consumption and ensure the
best driving style.
NOTE: the indication in the instru-
ment panel remains on until the dri-
ver makes a gear change or until the
driving conditions return to a situa-
tion where a gear change is not re-
quired to improve consumption.

USING THE
MECHANICAL
GEARBOX
To engage the gears, press the clutch
pedal fully and shift the gear lever
into one of the required positions (the
diagram is shown on the knob).
IMPORTANT Reverse may only be
engaged when the car is at a stand-
still. With the engine running, wait for
at least 2 seconds with the clutch
pedal fully pressed before engaging
reverse to prevent damage to the gears
and grating.
To engage 6th gear (for versions/
markets, where provided), operate the
lever by pressing it towards the right
in order to avoid engaging 4th gear by
mistake. The action is similar for
shifting from 6th gear to 5th gear.
To engage reverse Rfrom the neutral
position, lift the sliding ring A-fig. 2-
3under the knob and at the same
time move the lever rightwards and
then back (petrol versions only). For
Multijet versions, simply move the
lever rightwards and then back.
fig. 2L0D0150m
fig. 3L0D0360m
Do not drive with your
hand resting on the gear
lever, because this pressure,
even if light, over time can
wear out the gearbox inner compo-
nents.
Press the clutch pedal
fully to change gears cor-
rectly. For this reason, there must
be no obstacles on the floor under
the pedals: ensure that rubber mats
(if any) are correctly positioned,
not interfering with the pedals.

❒With a second lead, connect the
negative terminal (–) of the auxil-
iary battery to an earthing point E
on the engine or the gearbox of the
car to be started;
❒start the engine;
❒when the engine has been started,
remove the leads reversing the or-
der above. If engine fails to start
again do not attempt any further
and call a Lancia Dealership.
IMPORTANT Never connect the neg-
ative terminals of the two batteries di-
rectly: sparks could ignite explosive
gas released from the battery. If the
auxiliary battery is installed on an-
other car, prevent accidental contact
between metallic parts of the two cars.
fig. 2L0D0396m
This procedure must be
performed by expert per-
sonnel because incorrect actions
may cause electrical discharge of
considerable intensity. Further-
more, battery fluid is poisonous
and corrosive: avoid contact with
your skin and eyes. Keep naked
flames away from the battery. No
smoking. Do not cause sparks.
WARNING
Never use a rapid battery
charger to jump start the
engine: this could damage
the electronic systems and
the engine ignition and injection
control units.

TOWING THE CAR
The car is provided with two tow
rings: use the shorter one on the front
and the longer one on the back.
The tow rings are arranged inside the
tool container.
The arrangement of the rear ring
(long) inside the spare wheel and in-
side the automatic Fix & Go quick re-
pair kit are shown in fig. 41 and in
fig. 42 respectively.
On cars with Dual Function System
gearbox, make sure that the gearbox
is in neutral N(check that the car can
move when pushed) and tow as a nor-
mal car with mechanical gearbox.
If the gearbox cannot be placed in
neutral, do not tow the vehicle and
contact a Lancia Dealership.

REMOVING THE TOW HITCH
CAPS
To avoid damaging the cap A-fig. 43,
proceed as follows:
❒take the screwdriver from the tool
container;
❒insert the screwdriver in the slot B
on the cap;
❒rest your thumb on the cap to
avoid damage (see figure);
❒extract the cap (without turning
it) perpendicular to the support-
ing surface fig. 44.

YEARLY
INSPECTION PLAN
The following yearly inspection plan
is recommended for cars clocking less
than 20,000 km a year (e.g. approx-
imately 15.000 km):
❒check tyre conditions/wear and
pressure (included spare wheel)
❒check lighting system operation
(headlights, direction indicators,
hazard lights, boot, passenger
compartment, instrument panel
warning lights, etc.)
❒check windscreen wiper/washer
(nozzle direction and blade wear)
❒check front disk brake pad condi-
tions and wear;
❒visually inspect: engine, gearbox,
transmission, flexible and stiff pip-
ing (exhaust, fuel feed, brakes),
rubber parts (boots, sleeves, bush-
ings, etc.);❒check cleanness of locks, bonnet
and boot and lever cleanness and
lubrication;
❒check battery charge;
❒visually inspect the accessory drive
belt conditions;
❒check and top up liquids if re-
quired (engine coolant, brakes,
windscreen washer, battery, etc.);
❒engine oil replacement;
❒replace engine oil filter;
❒replace pollen filter (for versions/
markets, where provided).
ADDITIONAL
INTERVENTIONS
Every 1,000 km or before long jour-
neys, check and, if necessary, top up:
❒engine coolant fluid level;
❒brake fluid level;
❒brake fluid level;
❒tyre pressure and conditions.
Every 3,000 km check the following
and top-up, if required: engine oil
level.
You are recommended to use
PETRONAS LUBRICANTS products,
designed and produced specifically for
Lancia cars (see table “Capacities” in
section “Technical specifications”).
IMPORTANT - Engine oil
Should prevailing use of the car be
under one of the following specially
heavy conditions:
❒trailer or caravan towing;
❒dusty roads;

Modifications or repairs to the fuel feed system that are not carried out properly or do not take the system’s
technical specifications into account can cause malfunctions leading to the risk of fire.
