WARNING
■When using the Lexus parking assist monitor system
The parking assist monitor is a supplemental device intended to assist the driver when
backing up. When backing up, be sure to chec k visually behind and all around the vehi-
cle before proceeding.
Observe the following precautions to avoid an accident that could result in death or
serious injuries.
●Never depend on the parking assist monitor entirely when backing up. The image and the position of the guide lines displayed on the screen may differ from the actual
state.
Use caution, just as you would when backing up any vehicle.
●Be sure to back up slowly, depressing the brake pedal to control vehicle speed.
●If you seem likely to hit nearby vehicles, obstacles, people or mount the shoulder,
depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle.
●The instructions given are only guidelines.
When and how much to turn the steering wheel will vary according to traffic condi-
tions, road surface conditions, vehicle condit ion, etc. when parking. It is necessary to be fully aware of this before using the parking assist system.
●When parking, be sure to check that the parking space will accommodate your vehi-
cle before maneuvering into it.
●Do not use the parking assist monitor in the following cases:
• On icy or slick road surfaces, or in snow
• When using tire chains or emergency tires • When the trunk lid is not closed completely
• On roads that are not flat or stra ight, such as curves or slopes.
●In low temperatures, the screen may darken or the image may become faint. The
image could distort when the vehicle is movi ng, or you may become unable to see the
image on the screen. Be sure to check dire ct visually and with the mirrors all around the vehicle before proceeding.
●If the tire sizes are changed, the position of the guide lines displayed on the screen
may change.
●The camera uses a special lens. The distances between objects and pedestrians that
appear in the image displayed on the screen will differ from the actual distances.
( P. 326)
●Estimated course line display mode: If the steering wheel is straight and the vehicle
width guide lines and the estimated course li nes are not in alignment, have the vehicle
inspected by any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or any reli- able repairer.

NOTICE
■How to use the camera
●The parking assist monitor may not operate properly in the following cases.
• If the back of the vehicle is hit, the posi tion and mounting angle of the camera may
change. • As the camera has a water proof constr uction, do not detach, disassemble or
modify it. This may cause incorrect operation.
• When cleaning the camera lens, flush the camera with a large quantity of water and wipe it with a soft and wet cloth. St rongly rubbing the camera lens may cause
the camera lens to be scratched and unable to transmit a clear image.
• Do not allow organic solvent, car wax, window cleaner or glass coat to adhere to the camera. If this happens, wi pe it off as soon as possible.
• If the temperature changes rapidly, such as when hot water is poured on the vehi-
cle in cold weather, the system may not operate normally. • When washing the vehicle, do not apply in tensive bursts of water to the camera or
camera area. Doing so may result in the camera malfunctioning.
• When the camera is used under fluorescent lights, sodium light or mercury light etc., the lights and the illuminated areas may appear to flicker.
●Do not expose the camera to strong impact as this could cause a malfunction. If this happens, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus
authorized repairer, or any reliab le repairer as soon as possible.

BSM main switch
Pressing the switch turns the system on or off. When the switch is set to on, the
switch’s indicator illuminates and the buzz er sounds. Common switch for BSM func-
tion and RCTA function.
Outside rear view mirror indicators
BSM function:
When a vehicle is detected in the blind spot, the outside rear view mirror indicator
comes on while the turn signal lever is not operated. If the turn signal lever is oper- ated toward the detected side, the outs ide rear view mirror indicator flashes
RCTA function:
When a vehicle approaching from the right or left at the rear of the vehicle is detected, both outsid e rear view mirror indicators will flash.
RCTA buzzer (RCTA function)
If a vehicle approaching from the right or left at the rear of the vehicle is detected, a
buzzer will sound. The buzzer also sounds for approximately 1 second immediately after the BSM function is operated to turn the system on.
Monitor screen display (RCTA function)
If a vehicle approaching from the right or left at the rear of the vehicle is detected, the
RCTA icon ( P. 344) for the detected side will be displayed on the monitor screen. This illustration shows an example of a vehi cle approaching from the left at the rear of

WARNING
■Handling the radar sensor
Blind Spot Monitor sensors are installed be hind the left and right sides of the rear
bumper respectively. Observe the following to ensure the Blind Spot Monitor can
function correctly.
●Do not subject a sensor or its surrounding area on the rear bumper to a strong impact.
If a sensor is moved even slightly off position, the system may malfunction and vehi-
cles may not be detected correctly. In the following situations, have your ve hicle inspected by any authorized Lexus
retailer or Lexus authorized repa irer, or any reliable repairer.
• A sensor or its surrounding area is subject to a strong impact. • If the surrounding area of a sensor is sc ratched or dented, or part of them has
become disconnected.
●Do not disassemble the sensor.
●Do not attach stickers to the sensor or surrounding area on the rear bumper.
●Do not modify the sensor or surrounding area on the rear bumper.
●Do not paint the rear bumper any color other than an official Lexus color.
●Keep the sensors and the surrounding areas
on the rear bumper clean at all times.
If a sensor or its surrounding area on the rear bumper is dirty or covered with snow, the
Blind Spot Monitor may not operate and a
warning message ( P. 581) will be dis- played. In this situation, clear off the dirt or
snow and drive the vehicle with the operation
conditions of the BSM function ( P. 341) satisfied for approximately 10 minutes. If the
warning message does not disappear, have
the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or
any reliable repairer.

The Blind Spot Monitor function uses radar sensors to detect vehicles that are
traveling in an adjacent lane in the area that is not reflected in the outside rear
view mirror (the blind spot), and advises the driver of the vehicles existence via
the outside rear view mirror indicator.
The areas that vehicles can be detected in are outlined below.
The range of each detection area is:
Approximately 0.5 m (1.6 ft.) to 3.5
m (11.5 ft.) from either side of the
vehicle*
*: The area between the side of the vehicle
and 0.5 m (1.6 ft.) from the side of the
vehicle cannot be detected.
Approximately 3 m (9.8 ft.) from the
rear bumper
Approximately 1 m (3.3 ft.) forward
of the rear bumper

WARNING
■Cautions regarding the use of the function
The driver is solely responsible for safe dr iving. Always drive safely, taking care to
observe your surroundings.
The BSM function is a supplementary function which alerts the driver that a vehicle is in
a blind spot of the outside rear view mirrors or is approaching rapidly from behind into
a blind spot. Do not overly rely on the BSM function. As the function cannot judge if it is safe to change lanes, over reliance could lead to an accident resulting in death or seri-
ous injury.
As the system may not function correctly under certain conditions, the driver’s own visual confirmation of safety is necessary.
