With the headlights on, push the
lever away from you to turn on
the high beams.
Pull the lever toward you to the center
position to turn the high beams off.
Pull the lever toward you and
release it to flash the high beams
once.
You can flash the high beams with the
headlights on or off.
This system allows the headlights, tail, license plate and front position
lights to be turned on for 30 seconds when the engine switch is off.
Pull the lever toward you and
release it with the light switch in ,
or after turning the engine
switch off.
The lights are turned off in the following situations.
●The engine switch is turn ed to IGNITION ON mode.
●The light switch is turned on.
●The light switch is pulled toward you and then released.

AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) secures excellent visibility at inter-
sections and on curves by automatically adjusting the direction of the light
axis of the headlights according to vehicle speed and the degree of the
tire’s angle as controlled by steering input.
AFS operates at speeds of 10 km/h (6 mph) or higher.
■Daytime running light system
To make your vehicle more visible to othe r drivers during daytime driving, the day-
time running lights turn on automatically whenever the engine is started and the
parking brake is released with the headlight switch off or in the position. (Illumi-
nate brighter than the front position ligh ts.) Daytime running lights are not designed
for use at night.
■Headlight control sensor
AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System)
The sensor may not function properly if an
object is placed on the sensor, or anything
that blocks the sensor is affixed to the wind-
shield.
Doing so interferes with the sensor detecting
the level of ambient light and may cause the
automatic headlight system to malfunction.

■Automatic light off system
For GCC countries*, Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria
The headlights and tail lights turn off automa tically if the engine switch is switched to
ACCESSORY mode or turned off and the driver’s door is opened.
To turn the lights on again, turn the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode, or turn
the light switch off once and then back to or .
Vehicles with a follow me home system
●When the light switch is in , , or : The headlights turn off automati-
cally if the engine switch is switched to ACCESSORY mode or turned off.
●When the light switch is in : The headlights and all lights turn off automatically if
the engine switch is switched to ACCESSORY mode or turned off.
To turn the lights on again, turn the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode, or turn
the light switch off once and then back to , , or .
Vehicles without a follow me home system except for GCC countries*, Yemen,
Jordan, Lebanon and Syria
When the light switch is in : The headlights and tail lights turn off 30 seconds
after the engine switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off and a door is
opened and all of the doors and trunk are closed. (The lights turn off immediately if
on the key is pressed after all the doors are closed.)
To turn the lights on again, turn the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode, or turn
the light switch off once and then back to , , or .
If any of the doors or trunk lid is kept open, the lights automatically turn off after 20
minutes.
*: Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait
■Light reminder buzzer (except for GCC countries*, Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon and
Syria)
A buzzer sounds when the engine switch is turned off or turned to ACCESSORY
mode and the driver’s door is opened while the lights are turned on.
*: Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait
■Automatic headlight leveling system
The level of the headlights is automatically adjusted according to the number of pas-
sengers and the loading condition of the vehicle to ensure that the headlights do not
interfere with other road users.

■Battery-saving function
In the following conditions, the remaining lights will go off automatically after 20
minutes in order to prevent the vehicle battery from being discharged:
●The headlights and/or tail lights are on.
●The engine switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off.
●Vehicles with a follow me home system: The light switch is in , or .
This function will be canceled in any of the following situations:
●When the engine switch is turned to IGNITION ON mode.
●When the light switch is operated.
●When the door or trunk is opened or closed.

When variable shade beam is on,
the illumination of the area sur-
rounding oncoming vehicles and
preceding vehicles is partially
shielded while all other areas con-
tinue to be illuminated in high beam.
This enables forward lighting to be
optimized without blinding sur-
rounding traffic.
If oncoming or preceding vehicles
change position, the shielded area
changes and adapts to the vehicle’s
position.
AHS (Adaptive High-beam System)
The Adaptive High-beam System uses an in-vehicle camera sensor to
assess the brightness of streetlights , the lights of oncoming and preced-
ing vehicles, etc., and automatically turns high beam and variable shade
beam on or off as necessary.

■Switching to low beam
Pull the lever to original position.
The Adaptive High-beam System
indicator will turn off.
Push the lever away from you to
activate the Adaptive High-beam
System again.
■Switching to high beam
Press the Adaptive High-beam
System switch.
The Adaptive High-beam System
indicator will turn off and the high
beam indicator will turn on.
Press the switch to activate the
Adaptive High-beam System
again.

●When all of the following conditions are fulfilled, high beam will be
automatically turned on (after approximately 1 second):
• Vehicle speed is above approximately 60 km/h (37 mph).
• The area ahead of the vehicle is dark.
• There are no oncoming or precedin g vehicles with headlights or tail
lights turned on.
●If any of the following conditions are fulfilled, low beam will be automat-
ically turned on, depending on the location of oncoming or preceding
vehicles:
• Vehicle speed drops below approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
• The area ahead of the vehicle is not dark.
• Preceding vehicles are moving qu ickly and high beams may blind the
drivers of the other vehicles.
●When all of the following conditions are fulfilled, variable shade beam
will be automatically turned on, depending on the location of oncoming
or preceding vehicles:
• Vehicle speed is above approximately 60 km/h (37 mph).
• The area ahead of the vehicle is dark.

■Camera sensor detection information
●High beam may not be automatically turned off or changed to variable shade beam
in the following situations:
• When oncoming vehicles suddenly appear from a curve
• When the vehicle is cut in front of by another
• When oncoming or preceding vehicles are hidden from sight due to repeated
curves, road dividers or roadside trees
●High beam may be turned off or variable shade beam may be changed to if an
oncoming vehicle that is using fog lights without using the headlights is detected.
●House lights, street lights, red traffic signals, and illuminated billboards or signs may
cause the high beam to turn off or variable shade beam to be changed to and may
change the area that is shielded.
●The following factors may affect the amount of time taken to turn high beam on or
off, or the speed by which the shielded areas change:
• The brightness of headlights, fog lights, and tail lights of oncoming and preced-
ing vehicles
• The movement and direction of oncoming and preceding vehicles
• When a oncoming or preceding vehicle only has operational lights on one side
• When a oncoming or preceding vehicle is a two-wheeled vehicle
• The condition of the road (gradient, curve, condition of the road surface etc.)
• The number of passengers and amount of luggage
●High beam and variable shade beam may be turned on or off when unexpected by
the driver.
●Small vehicles, such as bicycles, may not be detected.
