I3 FRONT SUSPENSION (DOUBLE-WISHBONE) I t'- SHOCK ABSORBER 05UORX-02 Inspection Shock absorber Check the following and replace if necessary. 1. lnspect for damage and oil leakage. 2. lnspect the rubber bushing for deterioration and wear. 3. Compress and extend the shock piston at least three (3) times. Verify that the operational force does not change and that there is no unusual noise. 4. (1) Compress the shock absorber piston and release it. (2) Verify that the piston extends fully at a normal speed. Assembly note Coil spring and bound stopper 1. Set the shock absorber in a vise. 2. Install the bound stopper on the shock absorber as shown. 3. lnstall the compressed coil spring (compressed with SST). 4. Install the mounting plate. 5. Tighten the mounting plate nut, but do not torque it yet. 6. Remove the SST. 7. Secure the mounting plate in a vise. 8. Tighten the piston rod upper nut. Tightening torque: 30-36 N.m (3.0-3.7 kgf.m, 22-26 ftdbf) Disposal of shock absorber Caution The gas in the shock absorber is color less, order less, and non-toxic. Wear safety glasses as drilling chips may be expelled by the pressurized gas. 1. Lay the shock absorber flat. 2. Drill a hole in the shock absorber body. Drill size: 2-3mm (0.08-0.11 in). 3. Allow the gas to escape from the shock absorber. 4. Discard the shock absorber. Gartner Banana

The trunk lid may fall and injure you. Open the trunk lid fully and se- cure it before removing the balance spring. 1. Lift the balance spring with a protected screwdriver. 2. Remove the balance spring. Adjustment Trunk lid Loosen the trunk lid mounting nuts and adjust as shown. If a spacer is damaged, replace it. 6. Prepare the nozzle of the sealant tube so that it has a flange that can run along the edge of the glass and a V from which the sealant can flow. Once the primer is dry, apply repair sealant (BOO1 77 739) around the entire cir- cumference to fill the gap between the dam and the edge of the glass with a ridge of sealant 11 mm I0.43 in} high. Keep the bead of sealant smooth and even, reshaping it where necessary with a spatula. 7. If a protector is damaged, securely bond a new protector onto the body as shown. Allow it to dry completely. 8. Install the glass, aligning the glass mark with the V notch in the spacer. Push it in lightly toward the vehicle to corn- press the sealant. 9. To prevent the glass from being pushed out by air pres- sure if a door is closed, open all of the windows until the repair sealant has hardened. Allow it to dry completely. 7. Align the studs of the glass with the detachable hardtop and mount the glass. 8. Push the glass lightly toward the front to compress the sealant. 9. Tighten the glass mounting nuts. Tightening torque: 2.4--3.3 N-m (24--34 kgf-cm, 20.9-29.5 in-lbf) 10. Use a scraper to smooth away any sealant that oozes out. Add more sealant to any points of poor contact. 11. Install the new rear window molding. (Refer to page S-29.) Set the airflow mode control lever to VENT position. 2. Connect and clamp the wire with the shutter lever on the heater unit at its closest point. 3. Move the airflow mode control lever to make sure the wire is securely attached and that it moves the full stroke from DEF to VENT. REC-FRESH wire 1. Set the selector lever to FRESH position. 2. Connect and clamp the wire with the shutter lever on the blower unit at its closest point. 3. Move the REC-FRESH lever to make sure the wire is securely attached and that it moves the full stroke from - REC to FRESH. TEMF - - I 'ERATURE BLEND WIRE 45UOSX-080 Temperature blend wire 1. Set the temperature blend lever to MAX-HOT position. 2. Connect and clamp the wire with the shutter lever on the heater unit all the way to the right. 3. Move the temperature blend lever to make sure the wire is securely attached and that it moves the full stroke from HOT to COLD. Gartner Banana

CONVERTIBLE TOP s 6. Place the link assembly onto the top fabric. 7. Install the top fabric to the bows, beginning from the rear bow. 8. Align the center of the retainer and the V notch in the top fabric, and roll the top fabric over the bow u retainer. 9. Hang the end of the top fabric on the bow retainer. 10. Clamp the top fabric to the bow with protected water pump pliers. Pull the top fabric by hand to verify that it is held securely. 11. Affix the top fabric to the rear bow with the Velcro. ADJUSTING NUT 45UOSX-117 Rear deck latch assembly 1. Remove the screw and open the latch cover. 2. Loosen the plate mounting bolts. 3. Install the detachable hardtop to the body. 4. Move the plate right, left, fore, or aft until it is tight. 5. Tighten the plate mounting bolts. Tightening torque: 18-26 N.m (1.8-2.7 kgfsm, 14--19 ft-lbf) 6. "Code" will be displayed for approximately 5 seconds and then disappear to indicate that the audio unit is operative. -.- Caution Three consecutive errors, including turning the ignition switch to OFF and disconnecting the au- dio unit, will activate the antitheft system and ren- der the audio unit completely inoperative.
