Opening th ecovers The mounting
sfor th eremovable towin geyes
are locate dinthebumpers .They are located
at th efront and rear behind covers. Coupé (example)

Press cover 0046inwards on th emarkin gin
th ed irection of th earrow.
X Tak ecover 0046 off th eopening but do not
remove it.
Securing th etowing eye X
Tak ethe towin geye and th ewheel wrench
from th evehicl etoolkit (Y page 207).
X Screw in th etow inge ye clockwise to the
stop.
X Inser tthe wheel wrench handle int othe
towin geye and tighten it. Towing th
evehicle
! You may to wthe vehicl efor am aximum
of 50 km .Atowings pee dof50k m/hm ust
no tbee xceeded.
Fo rtow ingd istances ove r50km,thee ntire
vehicl emust be lifted up and transported.
! The engin emust be switched off (key in
ignition loc kinposition 0or position 1)if
th ev ehicl eisb eingtow ed wit hthe front
axle raised or if th eparking brak eisbeing
tested on adynamometer. Otherwise,
intervention by ESP ®
could damag ethe
brak esystem.
Vehicles with manua ltra nsmission X
Turn th ekeyto position 2(Y page 65 )in
th ei gnition lock.
X Fully depress th eclutch pedal.
X Shift to neutral.
Vehicles with automatic transmission* X
Turn th ekeyto position 2(Y page 65 )in
th ei gnition lock.
X Shift th etransmission to position N. Tow-starting (emergency engine
starting)
Pleas enote:
R Vehicles wit hanautomatic transmission*
must no tbetow-started.
R The battery must be connected.
R The engin eand catalyti cconverter must be
cold.
R Avoid repeated and lengthy starting
attempts.

Shift to neutral.
X Tow the vehicl eorletit roll.
X Shift to asuitabl egeara nd bring the clutch
peda lups lowly. Do not depress the accel-
erator pedal.
The engine is started. Removin
gthe towin geye
X Take the wheel wrench from the vehicle
tool kit (Y page 207).
X Insert the wheel wrench handl einto the
towing ey eand turn it anti-clockwise.
X Unscre wthe towing eye.
X Replace the cove rand press it unti lit
engages.
X Return the towing ey eand the wheel
wrench to the vehicl etool kit. Transporting the vehicle
The towing eyes or traile rcoupling *can be
used to pull the vehicle onto atraile rort rans-
porter if yo uwishtot ransport it.
! Only secure the vehicle by the wheel sor
wheel rims ,not by parts of the vehicle such
as axl eorsteering components. Otherwise,
the vehicle could be damaged.
Vehicles with manual transmission X
Shif tton eutral.
Vehicles with automati ctransmission* X
Turn the key to position 2(Y page 65) in
the ignition lock.
X Move the transmissio ntoposition N. Fuses
Note
sonc hanging fuses
The fuses in your vehicl eserv etoc lose down
faulty circuits. If afuseb lows ,allthe compo-
nents on the circuit and thei rfunctions will
fail.
Blown fuses mus tbereplaced with fuses of
the same rating, which yo ucan recognis eby
the colou rand value .The fus eratings are lis-
ted in the fus ealloc ation chart. AMercedes-
Benz Service Centre will be happy to advise
you. G

Only us efuses that have bee napproved for
Mercedes-Benz vehicles and which have the
correct fus erating for the systems con-
cerned. Do not attempt to repai rorbridge
faulty fuses. Otherwise, acircuit overload
could cause afire .H ave the cause trace dand
rectifie dataq ualified specialist workshop,
e.g. aMercedes-Benz Service Centre.
If the newly inserted fus ealsob lows ,havet he
cause trace dand rectifie dataqualified spe-
cialist workshop, e.g. aMercedes-Benz

concerned. Otherwise, components or sys-

X Remove the key from the ignition lock. Fus

To open: openthe driver' sdoor.
X Pull ou tcover 0046slightl yatthe bottom

X Pull cover 0046outwards and remove it 0047.
X To close: clipinc over0046at the front.
X Fol dc over 0046inward suntilite ngages.
X Close the driver' sdoor. Fus
eboxin the engine compartment
X Make sure that the windscreen wiper sare
turne doff. G
Risk of injury
Make sure that the windscreen wiper sare
turne doff and the key is pulled ou tofthe igni-
tion lock before yo uopenthe cove rofthe fuse
box. Otherwise, the windscreen wiper sand
the wiper rod sabove the cove rcould be set
in motion. Thi scould lead to yo uorothers
being injured by the wiper rods. X
To open: openthe bonne t(Ypage 180). X
Remove moistur efrom the fus ebox using
ad ry cloth.
X Uncli plines 0047 from the lid.
X Move asid elines 0047.R oute the lines behind
connection 008Ato do this.
X Ope nclamps 0046and unhook the corre-
sponding wire straps at the bottom.
X Lift off the fus ebox cove rtowards the front
of the vehicle.
X To close: check whethe rthe rubber sea lis
positioned correctly in the lid.
X Inser tthe li dinto the bracket at the rea rof
the fus ebox.
X Press the li ddowna nd secure with
clamps 0046.
X Clip lines 0047onto the lid.
X Close the bonne t(Ypage 180). Fus
eboxin the boot
X To open: openthe boot. Fuses
