Switching the auxiliary heating or aux-
iliary ventilation on or off using the
centre console The colours of the indicator lamps on the but-
ton have the following meanings:
Blue Auxiliary ventilation switched on
Red Auxiliary heating switched on
Yellow Departure time preselected (Ypage 293) X
To switch on the auxiliary heating or
auxiliary ventilation: press button:.
The red or blue indicator lamp in button :
lights up.
X To switch off the auxiliary heating or
auxiliary ventilation: press button:.
The red or blue indicator lamp in button :
goes out.
Activating or deactivating the auxiliary
heating or auxiliary ventilation via
remote control General notes
Your vehicle comes with one remote control.
You may use two additional remote controls
for your vehicle. For more information ,please
contact aqualified specialist workshop.
Storet he remote control for the auxiliary
heating so that the auxiliary heating cannot
be switched on unintentionally. In particular,
ensure that the remote control for the auxili-
ary heating is kept out of the reach of chil-
dren. The remote control has
arange of approx-
imately 300 metres. This range is reduced by:
R sources of radio interference
R solid objectsb etween the remote control
and the vehicle
R the remote control being in an unfavoura-
ble position in relation to the vehicle
R transmittingf rom an enclosed space
If the remote control battery is low, the bat-
tery symbol on the left of the display is shown as empty. Replace the remote control battery
and observe the important safety notes when doing so (Y page 171).

The starter battery is not sufficiently charged.
X Charge the starter battery.

Very hot or very cold air can flow from the air vents. This could result in burns or frostbit ein

Make sure that all vehicle occupants always
maintain asufficient distance to the air out-
lets. If necessary, redirect the airflow to
another area of the vehicle interior. In order to ensure the direct flow of fresh air
through the air ventsi

please observe the following notes:
R keep the air inlet between the windscreen
and the bonnet free of blockages, such as
ice, snow or leaves.
R never cover the ventsorv entilation grilles

Problems with the engine

long and frequent attemptstos tart the engine, as this will drain
the battery.
If the engine does not start after several attempts: X Consult aqualified specialist workshop. The engine does not
start. The starter motor

lamp is lit and the fuel
gauge display shows 0. The fuel tank is empty.
X Refuel the vehicle. The engine does not
start. You cannot hear
the starter motor. The on-board voltage is too low because the battery is too weak or
discharged.
X Jump-start the vehicle (Y page 405).
If the engine does not start despite attemptstoj ump-start it:
X Consult aqualified specialist workshop. The starter motor was exposed to
athermal load that was too high.
X Allow the starter motor to cool down for approximately two
minutes.
X Try to start the engine again.
If the engine still does not start:

twigs may ignite if they come into contact with hot parts of the exhaust system or exhaust
gas flow. There is arisk of fire.
Park the vehicle so that no flammable mate-
rial can come into contact with hot vehicle
components. In particular, do not park on dry grassland or harvested grain fields. G
WARNING
If you switch off the ignition while driving,
safety-relevant functions are only available
with limitations, or not at all. This could affect, for example, the power steering and the brake
boosting effect.Y ou will require considerably
more effort to steer and brake. There is arisk
of an accident.

If you leave children unattended in the vehi-
cle, they may be able to set the vehicle in
motion if, for example, they:

R shift the automatic transmission out of park

ment and become trapped. There is arisk of
an accident and injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the key with you and lock the vehicle. Never leave

against rolling away unintentionally:

On vehicles with amanualtransmission, you
will se eawarning message in the multifunc-
tio nd isplay in such cases:
