WARNING
Only for the Unite dKingdom: if the vehicle
has been locked with the key or with KEY-
LESS-GO, the double lock function is activa-
ted as standard. It is then not possible to open
the doors from inside the vehicle.
Therefore, do not leave any people behind in
the vehicle, particularly children ,elderly peo-
ple or people requirin gspecial assistance. As
ar esult, they may not be able to free them-
selves in the even tofanemergency. They
could be seriously or eve nfatally injured by
prolonged exposure to extremely high or low
temperatures, for example. In this case, res-
cuing peopl efrom outsid ethe vehicle is diffi-
cult.
Deac tivate th einterior motion sensor before
you lock the vehicle. The doors can then be
opened from the inside after the vehicl ehas
been locked from the outside. G
WARNING
If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle,

open adoor from inside the vehicle at any
time, even if it has been locked

left in the vehicle
R release the electric parking brake
They could thereby endanger themselves and
others. Never leave children unsupervised in
the vehicle. Alway stake the key with you
when leaving the vehicle, even if you are only
leaving it for ashort time. G
WARNING
If ak ey rin gistoo heavy or too large, the
weight actin gonthe key coul dcause it to turn
in the ignition lock or catc honthe steering
wheel. This coul dcause the engine to be
switched off suddenly. You may lose control
of the vehicle and cause an accident. Do not
attac hany heavy or large key rings to the key
that is inserted in the ignition.
R Do not keep the key:
-electronic devices, e.g. amobile phone
or anothe rkey
- metallic objects, e.g. coins or metal film
- metallic objects, e.g. ametal case.
This can affect the key' sfunctionality.
Do not keep the KEYLESS-GO key in the tem-
perature-controlled cup holder. Otherwise,
the KEYLESS-GO key will not be detected.
Keep the key away from strong magnetic
fields. Otherwise, the remot econtrol function
coul dbea ffected. 76

Key functions

When unlocking, the tur nsignals flash once.
When locking, they flash three times.
You can also set an audible signal to confirm
that the vehicle has been locked. The audible
signal can be activated and deactivated using
the on-board computer (Y page 283).
When it is dark, the surroun dlighting also
comes on if it is activated in the on-board
computer (Y page 282). KEYLESS-GO
Genera lnotes Bear in mind that the engine can be started
by any of the vehicle occupants if there is a
KEYL ESS-GO key in the vehicle. Locking and unlockin
gcentrally You can start, lock or unlock the vehicle using
KEYL
ESS-GO .Todot his, you only need carry
the key with you. When you touc hthe surface
of the sensor sonthe vehicle' soutside door
handles ,KEYLESS-GO establishes aradio
connection between the vehicle and the key.
When the engine is started and whils tyou are
driving, KEYLESS -GOa lso check swhether a
valid key is in the vehicle by periodically
establishin gradio contact.
You can combine the KEYLESS-GO functions
with the functions of aconventional key.
Unlock the vehicle by using KEYLESS -GO, for
instance, and lock it usin gthe & button on
the key.
When locking or unlocking with KEYL ESS-GO,
the distance between the key and the corre-
sponding doo rhandle must not be greater
than 1m. X
To unlock the vehicl e:touch the inner

Changing th
esettings of th elocking
system
You can chang ethe settings of th elocking
system. This mea nsthat only the driver' sdoor
and th efuel filler flap are unlocked when the
vehicle is unlocked. This is useful if you fre-
quently travel on your own.
X To change th esetting: press and hold
down the %and& buttons simulta-
neously for approximately six seconds until
the battery chec klamp flashes twice
(Y page 79).
i If the settin gofthe locki ngsystem is
changed within th esignal range of th evehi-
cle ,pressi ngthe & or% button:
R locks or
R unlock sthe vehicle
The ke ynow functions as follows:
X To unloc kthe drive r'sdoor: press the
% button once.
X To unlock cen trally:pressthe % but-
to nt wice.
X To lock centrally: pressthe & button.
The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as fol-
lows:
X To unlock th edriver's doo r:touch the
inner surface of the doo rhandle on the
driver' sdoor.
X To unlock centrally: touch theinner sur-
fac eo fthe door handle on th efront-
passenger door or th erear door.
X To lock centrally: touch theouter sensor
surface on one of the door handles
(Y page 77).
X To restor ethe facto rysettings: press
and hold down the %and& buttons

There are several ways to tur noff th ealarm:
X To turn the alarm off with the key: press
the % or& buttonont he key.

X Insert the key int othe ignition lock.

X To deactivat ethe alarm with KEYLESS-
GO: press th eStart/Stop button in the igni-
tion lock. The key must be in the vehicle.
or
X Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO. The key must be outside the vehicle.
If you unlock the vehicle using the emergency
key element, the fuel filler fla pwilln ot be
unlocked automatically.

vehicle even if it has been locked.

with KEYLESS -GO, opening adoor from the
inside will trigger the anti-thef talarm system.

if the vehiclehas

GO, the double lock function is activated as
standard. It is then not possible to open the
doors from inside the vehicle. Deactivate the
interior motion sensor (Y page 72) before you
lock the vehicle. The doors can then be
opened from the inside after the vehicle has
been locked from the outside .The anti-theft
alar msystem is triggered if the doo ris
opened from the inside. Swit choff the alarm
(Y page 71).
You can only open the rea rdoors from inside
the vehicle if they ar enot secured by the
child-proof lock s(Ypage 60). X

You can centrally lock or unlock the vehicle
from the inside. The buttons are located on

If the front-passenger door is closed, the
vehicle locks.
Meanwhile, the fuel filler fla pwill not be
locked or unlocked.
You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally from
the inside if the vehicle has been locked with
the key or KEYL ESS-GO.
For all countries except the United King-
dom: you can ope nadoor from inside the
vehicle even if it has been locked.
Unite dKingdom only: if the vehicle has
been locked with the key or with KEYL ESS-
GO, the double lock function is activate das
standard. It is then not possible to open the
door sfrom insid ethe vehicle. Deac tivate the
interior motion sensor (Y page 72) before you
lock the vehicle .The doors can then be
opened from the insid eafter th evehicle has
been locked from the outside.
If the vehicle has been locked using the lock-
ing button for the central locki ng,orh as been
locked automatically, and adoor is opened
from the inside:
R the vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had
previously been fully unlocked.
R only the door which has been opened from
the inside is unlocked if only the driver's

Monitor the tailgate openin gand closing pro-
cedures to make sure that nobody can
become trapped. To sto pthe openin gorclos-
ing procedure, press the closing button on the
tailgate again or pull the handle on the outside
of the tailgate.
! The tailgate swings upwards and to the
rear when opened. Therefore, make sure 86

With the key:
R
release the &button.
R press and hold the %button unti lthe
side windows and the slidin gsunroof or the
panorama sliding sunroof open again.
With KEYLESS-GO:
R release the senso rsurface on the door han-
dle.
R pull the door handle immediately and hold
it.
The side windows and the sliding sunroof
or the panorama sliding sunroof open.
Whe nyou lock the vehicle, you can simulta-
neously:
R close the side windows
R close the hinged side windows
R close the slidin gsunroof or the panorama
sliding sunroof
On vehicles with apanorama sliding sunroof,
you can then close the roller sunblinds.

X Point the tip of the key at the driver's door
handle.
X Press and hold the &button until the
side window sand the sliding sunroo forthe
panorama slidin gsunroof are fully closed.
X Make sure that all the side windows and the

are closed.
On vehicles with apanorama sliding sunroof:
X Press and hold the &button again until
the roller sunblinds of the panorama sliding
sunroof close.
X To interrupt convenienc eclosing:
release the &button. Using KEYLESS-GO The KEYL
ESS-GO key must be outside the
vehicle. All the doors must be closed. X
Touch recesse dsensor surface :on the
door handle until the side windows and the
sliding sunroof or the panorama sliding
sunroof are fully closed.
i Make sure you only touc hrecessed sen-
sor surface :.
X Make sure that all the side windows and the
sliding sunroof or panorama sliding sunroof
are closed.
On vehicles with apanorama sliding sunroof:
X Touch recessed senso rsurface :on the
door handle again until the roller sunblinds
of the panorama sliding sunroof close.
X To interrupt convenienc eclosing:
release recessed sensor surface :on the
door handle. Resetting the side windows
If as ide window can no longer be closed fully,
you must reset it.
X Close all doors.
X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
X Pull the corresponding switch on the door
control panel until the side window is com-
pletely closed. (Y page 89)
X Hold the switch for an additional second. Side windows

Change the position of the slidin
gsunroof
or open aside window. The noise will be
reduced or eliminated.
Your vehicle may be fitted with asliding sun-
roof or apanorama sliding sunroof. In this
section, the term "sliding sunroof" refers to
both types of sliding sunroof. Operating the sliding sunroof

X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
X Press or pull the 2switch in the corre-
sponding direction.
i If you press the 2switch beyond the
point of resistance, an automatic opening/
closing process is started in the corre-
sponding direction. You can stop automatic
operation by pressing again.
The sun protection cover automatically opens
along with the sliding sunroof. You can open
or close the sun protection cover manually
when the sliding sunroof is raised or closed.
i You can continue to operate the sliding
sunroof after switching off the engine or
removing the key. This function remains
active for five minutes or until the driver's
or front-passenger door is opened. Rain-closing featu
re If
the key is in position 0in the ignition lock
or if it is removed, the sliding sunroo fcloses
automatically:
R if it starts to rain
R at extreme outside temperatures
R after six hours
R if there is amalfunction in the power supply
The rear of the sliding sunroof is then raised
in order to ventilate the vehicle interior.
i If the sliding sunroof is obstructed while
being closed by the rain-closing feature, it
opens again slightly. The rain-closing fea-
ture is then deactivated.
The sliding sunroof does not close if:
R it is raised at the rear.
R it is blocked.
R no rain is falling on the area of the wind-
screen being monitored by the rain sensor
(e.g. because the vehicle is under abridge
or in acarport).
Resetting !
If the sliding sunroof still cannot be
opened or closed fully after resetting, con-
tact aqualified specialist workshop.
Reset the sliding sunroof if it does not move
smoothly.
X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
X Raise the sliding sunroof fully at the rear
(Y page 94).
X Keep the 2switch presse dfor another
second.
X Make sure that the slidin gsunroof can be
fully opened and closed again (Y page 94).
X If this is not the case, repeat the steps
above again. 94

The panorama sliding sunroof can only be
operated when the roller sunblind is open
(Y page 96).
X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
X Press or pull the 2switch in the corre-

closing process is started in the corre-
sponding direction. You can stop automatic
operation by pressing again.

WARNING
Make sure that nobody can become trapped
as you open or close the roller sunblinds.
The roller sunblinds shield the vehicle interior
from sunlight. The two roller sunblinds can
only be opened and closed together when the

If inciden tlight fro mheadlamps is prevented
from striking the sensor in the rear-view mir-
ror ,for instance, by luggage piled too high in
the vehicle, the mirror's automatic anti-dazzle
fun ction will not operate.
Incident light could then blind you. This may
distrac tyou from the traffic condition sand,
as aresult, you may cause an accident.
The rear-view mirror and the exterior mirror
on the driver' sside automatically go int oanti-
dazzle mode if the following conditions are
met simultaneously:
R the ignition is switched on and
R incide ntlight from headlamps strikes the
sensor in the rear-view mirror.
The mirror sdonot go int oanti-dazzle mode if
reverse gea risengaged or if the interior light-
ing is switched on. Parking position for the exterior mir-

Setting and storing the parking position Using reverse gear

The exterior mirror on the front-passenger

X Use adjustment button =to adjust the
exterior mirror to aposition that allows you
to see the rea rwheel and the kerb.
The parkin gposition is stored.
i If you shift the transmission to anot her
po sition ,the exterior mirror on the front-
passenger side retur nsto the driving posi-
tion.
