With the Vehicle Health Check, the CustomerAssistance Center can provide improved sup-port for problems with your vehicle. During anexisting call, vehicle data is transferred to theCustomer Assistance Center. The customerservice representative can use the receiveddata to decide what kind of assistance isrequired. Downloading routes
Downloading routes allows you to transfer andsave predefined routes in the navigation sys-tem. To do this, an SD memory card must beinserted into the multimedia system. If no SDmemory card is inserted, you must insert thecard into the card slot on the multimedia sys-tem before saving the route.
A route can be prepared and sent either by acustomer service representative or via theMercedes me connect portal on the Internet.
Each route can include up to 20 way points.Once a route has been received by the naviga-tion system, you will see thehas been saved to memory card. Dohas been saved to memory card. Doyou want to start route guidance?you want to start route guidance?mes-sage in the multimedia system display. Theroute is saved to the SD memory card.

Speed alert
You can define the upper speed limit, whichmust not be exceeded by the vehicle.
If this selected speed is exceeded by the vehi-cle, a message will be sent to the CustomerAssistance Center. The Customer AssistanceCenter then forwards this information to you.
You can select the way in which you receivethis information beforehand. Possible optionsinclude text message, e-mail or an automatedcall.
The data you receive contains the followinginformation:
Rthe location where the speed limit wasexceeded
Rthe time at which the speed limit was excee-ded
Rthe selected speed limit which was excee-ded
Geo fencing
Geo fencing allows you to select areas whichthe vehicle should not enter or leave. You willbe informed if the vehicle crosses the bounda-ries of the selected areas. You can select theway in which you receive this informationbeforehand. Possible options include text mes-sage, e-mail or an automated call.
The area can be determined as either a circleor a polygon with a maximum of ten corners.

Triggering the vehicle alarm
With this function, you can trigger the vehicle'spanic alarm via text message. An alarmsounds and the exterior lighting flashes.Depending on the setting, the panic alarmlasts five or ten seconds. Afterwards, thealarm switches off.
Garage door opener
General notes
The HomeLink®garage door opener integratedin the rear-view mirror allows you to operateup to three different door and gate systems.
Use the integrated garage door opener only ongarage doors that:
Rhave safety stop and reverse features and
Rmeet current U.S. federal safety standards
Once programed, the integrated garage dooropener in the rear-view mirror will assume thefunction of the garage door system's remotecontrol. Please also read the operating instruc-tions for the garage door system.
When programming a garage door opener,park the vehicle outside the garage. Do notleave the engine running while programming.

If the hood is unlatched, it may open up
when the vehicle is in motion and block your
view. There is a risk of an accident.
Never unlatch the hood while driving. Before
every trip, ensure that the hood is locked.
GWARNING
When opening and closing the hood, it may
suddenly fall into the closed position. There
is a risk of injury to persons within range of
movement of the hood.
Open and close the hood only when no one
is within its range of movement.
GWARNING
Opening the hood when the engine is over-
heated or when there is a fire in the engine
compartment could expose you to hot gases
or other service products. There is a risk of
injury.
Let an overheated engine cool down before
opening the hood. If there is a fire in the
engine compartment, keep the hood closed
and contact the fire department.
GWARNING
The engine compartment contains moving
components. Certain components, such as
the radiator fan, may continue to run or start
again suddenly when the ignition is off.
There is a risk of injury.
If you need to do any work inside the engine
compartment:

The ignition system and the fuel injection
system work under high voltage. If you
touch components which are under voltage,

tion is switched on.

Opening the hood

Certain components in the engine compart-
ment, such as the engine, radiator and parts

Where possible, let the engine cool down
and touch only the components described in

When the hood is open and the windshield
wipers are set in motion, you can be injured
by the wiper linkage. There is a risk of injury.

the ignition before opening the hood.

Checking coolant level
GWARNING
The cooling system is pressurized, particu-
larly when the motor is warm. If you open
the cap, you could be scalded if hot coolant
sprays out. There is a risk of injury.
Let the engine cool down before you open
the cap. Wear protective gloves and protec-
tive eyewear when opening. Open the cap
slowly to release pressure.
!The coolant level must only be checkedand corrected when the engine has cooleddown (coolant temperature under 104 ‡(40 †). Checking the coolant level when thecoolant temperature is over 104 ‡ (40 †)can lead to damage to the engine or theengine cooling system.
XPark the vehicle on a level surface.
Only check the coolant level when the vehi-cle is on a level surface and the engine hascooled down.

If you open the hood when the drive system
has overheated or during a fire in the engine
compartment, you could come into contact
with hot gases or other escaping operating
fluids. There is a risk of burns.
Let the overheated components cool down
before opening the hood. In the event of a
fire in the engine compartment, keep the
hood closed and call the fire service.
GWARNING
Windshield washer concentrate is highly
flammable. If windshield washer concentrate
gets onto hot components of the engine or
the exhaust system, it can ignite. There is a
risk of fire and injury.
Make sure that windshield washer concen-
trate is not spilled in the vicinity of the filler
neck.

Resetting the ASSYST PLUS service
interval display
!If the ASSYST PLUS service interval dis-play has been inadvertently reset, this set-ting can be corrected at a qualified special-ist workshop.
Have service work carried out as describedin the Maintenance Booklet. This may other-wise lead to increased wear and damage tothe major assemblies or the vehicle.
A qualified specialist workshop, e.g. an author-ized Mercedes-Benz Center, will reset theASSYST PLUS service interval display after theservice work has been carried out. You canalso obtain further information on mainte-nance work, for example.
Special service requirements
The specified maintenance interval takes onlythe normal operation of the vehicle intoaccount. Under arduous operating conditionsor increased load on the vehicle, maintenancework must be carried out more frequently, forexample:
Rregular city driving with frequent intermedi-ate stops
Rif the vehicle is primarily used to travel shortdistances
Ruse in mountainous terrain or on poor roadsurfaces
Rif the engine is often left idling for long peri-ods
Rin particularly dusty conditions, or if air-recirculation mode is frequently used
In these or similar operating conditions, havethe interior filter, engine air cleaner, engine oil
and oil filter, for example, changed more fre-quently. Under arduous operating conditions,the tires must be checked more often. Furtherinformation can be obtained at a qualified spe-cialist workshop, e.g. an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.

Wheel cleaner can lead to theincreased corrosion of the brake discs andpads. Therefore, drive for a few minutesafter cleaning. By heating up the brakes, thebrake discs and pads dry. The vehicle canthen be parked for a long period of time.
Regular care of your vehicle is a condition forretaining the quality in the long term.
Use care products and cleaning agents recom-mended and approved by Mercedes-Benz.

!Do not use any types of polish on mattdecorative film. Polishing surfaces coveredwith film gives it a shiny finish.
!Do not treat matt or structured decorativefilm with wax. This may lead to marks thatcannot be removed.
Observe the notes in the section on the careand treatment of matte paintwork(Ypage 280), these notes also apply to mattedecorative film.
To clean, use plenty of water and a mild clean-ing agent without additional or abrasive prod-ucts, e.g. use a car shampoo approved forMercedes-Benz.
XDry vehicles covered with film using a soft,absorbent cloth after every wash.Water marks could otherwise form.
Scratches, corrosive deposits, areas affectedby corrosion and damage caused by inade-quate care cannot always be completelyrepaired. In such cases, visit a qualified spe-cialist workshop.
XRemove dirt immediately, where possible,while avoiding rubbing too hard.The decorative film may be irreparably dam-aged.
XSoak insect remains with insect removerand rinse off the treated areas afterwards.
XSoak bird droppings with water and rinse offthe treated areas afterwards.
The Paint Cleaner cleaning product, which hasbeen approved and recommended byMercedes-Benz, should be used when dirt has
penetrated the decorative film surface or thedecorative film has become dull.
The manufacturer can provide you with infor-mation on special care and cleaning products.
Laminated surfaces may exhibit optical differ-ences to surfaces which were not protected bya decorative film when the decorative film isremoved.
iHave work or repairs on decorative filmcarried out at a qualified specialist work-shop. Mercedes-Benz recommends that youuse an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center forthis purpose.

GWARNING
The water jet from a circular jet nozzle (dirt
blasters) can cause invisible exterior dam-
age to the tires or chassis components.
Components damaged in this way may fail
unexpectedly. There is a risk of an accident.
Do not use power washers with circular jet
nozzles to clean the vehicle. Have damaged
tires or chassis components replaced imme-
diately.
!Do not use acidic wheel cleaning productsto remove brake dust. This could damagewheel bolts and brake components.
!Do not park your vehicle for a long periodof time directly after cleaning, particularlyafter cleaning the wheel rim with wheelcleaner. Wheel cleaner can lead to theincreased corrosion of the brake discs andpads. Therefore, drive for a few minutesafter cleaning. By heating up the brakes, thebrake discs and pads dry. Rswitch off the engine and remove theSmartKey. On vehicles with KEYLESS-GO,make sure that the ignition is switchedoff. Check that all the indicator lamps inthe instrument cluster are off. Otherwise,electronic components, such as the alter-nator, may be damaged.
Ryou first remove the negative terminalclamp and then the positive terminalclamp. Never swap the terminal clamps.Otherwise, the vehicle's electronic systemmay be damaged.
Rin vehicles with automatic transmission,the transmission is locked in position]after the battery is disconnected. Thevehicle is secured against rolling away.You can then no longer move the vehicle.
The battery and the cover of the positive ter-minal clamp must be installed securely dur-ing operation.
Comply with safety precautions and take pro-tective measures when handling batteries.
Risk of explosion.
Fire, open flames and smoking areprohibited when handling the bat-tery. Avoid creating sparks.
Battery acid is caustic. Avoid con-tact with skin, eyes or clothing.
Wear suitable protective clothing,especially gloves, apron and face-guard.

For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recom-mends that you only use batteries which havebeen tested and approved for your vehicle byMercedes-Benz. These batteries provideincreased impact protection to prevent vehicleoccupants from suffering acid burns shouldthe battery be damaged in the event of anaccident.
In order for the battery to achieve the maxi-mum possible service life, it must always besufficiently charged.
Like other batteries, the vehicle battery maydischarge over time if you do not use the vehi-cle. In this case, have the battery disconnec-ted at a qualified specialist workshop. You canalso charge the battery with a charger recom-mended by Mercedes-Benz. Contact a quali-fied specialist workshop for further informa-tion.
Have the battery condition of charge checkedmore frequently if you use the vehicle mainlyfor short trips or if you leave it standing idlefor a lengthy period. Consult a qualified spe-cialist workshop if you wish to leave your vehi-cle parked for a long period of time.
Only replace a battery with a battery that hasbeen recommended by Mercedes-Benz.
Remove the SmartKey if you park the vehicleand do not require any electrical consumers.The vehicle will then use very little energy,thus conserving battery power.
If the power supply has been interrupted, e.g.if you reconnect the battery, you will have to:
Rset the clock using the multimedia system(see the Digital Operator's Manual)
Rreset the function for folding the exteriormirrors in/out automatically, by folding themirrors out once (Ypage 99)
Charging the battery
GWARNING
During charging and jump-starting, explosive
gases can escape from the battery. There is
a risk of an explosion.
Particularly avoid fire, open flames, creating
sparks and smoking. Ensure there is suffi-
cient ventilation while charging and jump-
starting. Do not lean over a battery.
GWARNING
Battery acid is caustic. There is a risk of
injury.
Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Do
not inhale any battery gases. Do not lean
over the battery. Keep children away from
batteries. Wash away battery acid immedi-
ately with plenty of clean water and seek
medical attention.
GWARNING
A discharged battery can freeze at tempera-
tures below freezing point. When jump-start-
ing the vehicle or charging the battery,
gases can escape from the battery. There is
a risk of an explosion.
Allow the frozen battery to thaw out before
charging it or jump-starting.
!Only use battery chargers with a maximumcharging voltage of 14.8 V.
!Only charge the battery using the jump-starting connection point.
The jump-starting connection point is in theengine compartment (Ypage 295).
XOpen the hood.
XConnect the battery charger to the positiveterminal and ground point in the same orderas when connecting the donor battery in thejump-starting procedure (Ypage 295).
If the indicator/warning lamps do not light upin the instrument cluster at low temperatures,it is very likely that the discharged battery hasfrozen. In this case you may neither jump-startthe vehicle nor charge the battery. The servicelife of a thawed-out battery may be shorter.The starting characteristics can be impaired,
