With this function, you can trigger the vehicle'spanic alarm via text message. An alarmsounds and the exterior lighting flashes.Depending on the setting, the panic alarmlasts five or ten seconds. Afterwards, thealarm switches off.

The HomeLink®garage door opener integratedin the rear-view mirror allows you to operateup to three different door and gate systems.
Use the integrated garage door opener only ongarage doors that:
Rhave safety stop and reverse features and
Rmeet current U.S. federal safety standards
Once programed, the integrated garage dooropener in the rear-view mirror will assume thefunction of the garage door system's remotecontrol. Please also read the operating instruc-tions for the garage door system.
When programming a garage door opener,park the vehicle outside the garage. Do notleave the engine running while programming.
Certain garage door drives are incompatiblewith the integrated garage door opener. If youhave difficulty programing the integratedgarage door opener, contact a Mercedes-BenzService Center.

the pedal travel or obstruct a depressed
pedal. The operating and road safety of the
vehicle is jeopardized. There is a risk of an
accident.
Make sure that all objects in the vehicle are
stowed correctly, and that they cannot enter
the driver's footwell. Install the floormats
securely and as specified in order to ensure
sufficient clearance for the pedals. Do not
use loose floormats and do not place floor-
mats on top of one another.

effort to steer and brake. There is a risk of

Washing the vehicle and cleaning

After the vehicle has been washed, brake
carefully while paying attention to the traffic
conditions until full braking power is
restored.
!When Active Distance Assist DISTRONICor the HOLD function is activated, the vehi-cle brakes automatically in certain situa-tions.
To avoid damage to the vehicle, deactivateActive Distance Assist DISTRONIC and theHOLD function in the following or similar sit-uations:

!Make sure that:
Rthe side windows and sliding sunroof areclosed completely
Rthe blower is switched off
Rthe windshield wiper switch is in position

The reflective safety jackets are located infront door stowage compartmentsC. Reflec-tive safety jackets can also be stored in therear door stowage compartments.
XTo remove:pull out the safety jacket bagcontaining the reflective safety jacket.
XOpen the safety jacket bag and pull out thereflective safety jacket.
XTo stow:fold the reflective safety jacket,roll it up and stow it in the safety jacket bag.
XReplace the safety jacket bag into stowagecompartmentC.
iRemove a new reflective safety jacketfrom its packaging material before sliding itinto the stowage compartment. The packag-ing material may otherwise cause it to slipout or make removing it difficult.

Vehicle tool kit
General notes
Vehicles with a TIREFIT kit: the TIREFIT kit islocated in the stowage well under the cargocompartment floor.
Vehicles with a tire-change tool kit: the tire-change tool kit is in the stowage well underthe cargo compartment floor.
Apart from certain country-specific variations,the vehicles are not equipped with a tire-change tool kit. Some tools for changing awheel are specific to the vehicle. For moreinformation on which tire changing tools arerequired and approved to perform a wheelchange on your vehicle, consult a qualifiedspecialist workshop.
Tools required for changing a wheel mayinclude, for example:

DTire sealant filler bottle

Using the TIREFIT kit
XDo not remove any foreign objects whichhave penetrated the tire, e.g. screws ornails.
XRemove the tire sealant bottle, the accom-panying TIREFIT sticker and the tire inflationcompressor from the stowage well under-neath the cargo compartment floor(Ypage 287).
XAffix partCof the TIREFIT sticker to theinstrument cluster within the driver's field ofvision.
XAffix partDof the TIREFIT sticker near thevalve on the wheel with the defective tire.
XPull connector

Tire pressure not reached
If a pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi) hasnot been attained after five minutes:
XSwitch off the tire inflation compressor.
XUnscrew the filler hose from the valve of thefaulty tire.
Note that tire sealant may escape when youunscrew the filler hose.
XUSA only:very slowly drive the vehicle for-wards or reverse approximately 30 ft(10m).
XPump upthe tire again.
After a maximum of five minutes the tirepressure must be at least 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi).
GWARNING
If the required tire pressure is not reached
after the specified time, the tire is too badly
damaged. The tire sealant cannot repair the
tire in this instance. Damaged tires and a
tire pressure that is too low can significantly
impair the vehicle's braking and driving
characteristics. There is a risk of accident.
Do not continue driving. Contact a qualified
specialist workshop.
Tire pressure reached
GWARNING
A tire temporarily sealed with tire sealant
impairs the vehicle's driving characteristics
and is not suitable for driving at higher
speeds. There is a risk of an accident.
Adapt your driving style accordingly and
drive carefully. Do not exceed the maximum
permissible speed for a tire sealed with tire
sealant.
USA only:The maximum permissible speedfor a tire sealed with tire sealant is 50 mph(80 km/h). The upper part of the TIREFITsticker must be affixed to the instrument clus-ter in the driver's field of vision.
If a tire pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi)has been attained after five minutes:
XSwitch off the tire inflation compressor.
XUnscrew the filler hose from the valve of thefaulty tire.Note that tire sealant may escape when youunscrew the filler hose.
XUSA only:Stow the tire sealant bottle andthe tire inflation compressor.
XPull away immediately.
XStop after driving for approximately tenminutes and check the tire pressure withthe tire inflation compressor.The tire pressure must now be at least130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi).
GWARNING
If the required tire pressure is not reached
after driving for a short period, the tire is too
badly damaged. The tire sealant cannot
repair the tire in this instance. Damaged
tires and a tire pressure that is too low can
significantly impair the vehicle's braking and
driving characteristics. There is a risk of
accident.
Do not continue driving. Contact a qualified
specialist workshop.
iUSA only:In cases such as the one men-tioned above, contact an authorizedMercedes-Benz Center. Or call1-800-FOR-MERCedes (in the USA) or1-800-387-0100 (in Canada).
XUSA only:Correct the tire pressure if it isstill at least 130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi). Seethe Tire and Loading Information placard onthe driver's side B-pillar or the tire pressuretable in the fuel filler flap for values.

Towing and tow-starting

GWARNING
You can no longer steer the vehicle if the
steering wheel lock has been engaged.
There is a risk of an accident.
Always switch off the ignition when towing
the vehicle with a tow cable or a tow bar.
GWARNING
When towing or tow-starting another vehicle
and its weight is greater than the permissi-
ble gross weight of your vehicle, the:
Rthe towing eye could detach itself
Rthe vehicle/trailer combination could roll-
over.
There is a risk of an accident.
When towing or tow-starting another vehi-
cle, its weight should not be greater than
the permissible gross weight of your vehicle.
Details on the permissible gross vehicle weightof your vehicle can be found on the vehicleidentification plate (Ypage 333).
!When Active Brake Assist, Active DistanceAssist DISTRONIC or the HOLD function isactivated, the vehicle brakes automaticallyin certain situations.
To avoid damage to the vehicle, deactivatethese systems in the following or similar sit-uations:
Rwhen towing the vehicle
Rin the car wash
!Make sure that the electric parking brakeis released. If the electric parking brake isfaulty, visit a qualified specialist workshop.
!Only secure the tow rope or tow bar at thetowing eyes. Otherwise, the vehicle could bedamaged.
!Do not use the towing eyes for recoverypurposes as this could damage the vehicle.If in doubt, recover the vehicle with a crane.
!When towing, pull away slowly andsmoothly. If the tractive power is too high,the vehicles could be damaged.
!The vehicle can be towed a maximum of30 miles (50km). The towing speed of30 mph (50km/h) must not be exceeded.
If the vehicle has to be towed more than30 miles (50km), the front axle must beraised or the entire vehicle raised and trans-ported.
!Do not tow with sling-type equipment. Thiscould damage the vehicle.
!When towing away vehicles with KEYLESS-GO, use the key instead of the Start/Stopbutton. The automatic transmission mayotherwise shift to position]when youopen the driver's or front-passenger door,which could damage the transmission.
!Vehicles with automatic transmission mustnot be started by tow-starting. This couldotherwise damage the transmission.
It is better to have the vehicle transportedthan to have it towed away.
If the vehicle can no longer be driven becauseof an accident or breakdown, you have the fol-lowing options:
RTransporting the vehicle.
As a rule, you should have the vehicle trans-ported.
RTowing the vehicle with a tow rope or towbar.
Only tow the vehicle in exceptional cases.

The battery must be connected and charged.Otherwise, you:
Rcannot turn the SmartKey to positionHinthe ignition lock.
Rcannot release the electric parking brake.
Rcannot shift the transmission to position\\.
The function of the electric parking brake andthe parking lock is dependent on the on-boardvoltage.
If the on-board voltage is low or if there is asystem malfunction:
Rthe electric parking brake may not beapplied in certain circumstances, or
Rit may no longer be possible to shift thetransmission to position]
Switch off non-essential consumers, e.g. theradio.
Deactivate the automatic locking featurebefore the vehicle is towed (Ypage 199). Youcould otherwise be locked out when pushingor towing the vehicle.
Installing/removing the towing eye
Installing the towing eye
The brackets for the screw-in towing eye arelocated in the bumpers. They are at the rearand at the front, under coversC.
XRemove the towing eye from the stowagespace.
The towing eye is located with the vehicletool kit under the cargo compartment floor(Ypage 287).
Vehicles with the TIREFIT kit: the towing eyeis beneath the tire inflation compressor(Ypage 287).
XPress the mark on coverCinwards in thedirection of the arrow.
XTake coverCoff the opening.
XScrew in the towing eye clockwise to thestop.
Removing the towing eye
XUnscrew and remove the towing eye.
XAttach coverCto the bumper and pressuntil it engages.
XPlace the towing eye in the stowage wellbeneath the cargo compartment floor in thecargo compartment (Ypage 287).
XVehicles with the TIREFIT kit: put back thetire inflation compressor (Ypage 287).
Towing the vehicle with the front
axle raised
Observe the important safety notes when tow-ing your vehicle with the front axle raised(Ypage 298).
Only vehicles without 4MATIC can betowed with the front axle raised.
!Vehicles with 4MATIC must not be towedwith either the front or the rear axle raised,as doing so will damage the transmission.
Vehicles with 4MATIC may either be towedaway with both axles on the ground or be loa-ded up and transported.
!The ignition must be switched off if thevehicle is being towed with the front axle
raised. Otherwise, ESP®may intervene anddamage the brake system.
XOn vehicles with KEYLESS-GO or theKEYLESS-GO start function:you must usethe SmartKey instead of the Start/Stop but-ton (Ypage 126).
XMake sure that the vehicle is stationary.
XTurn the SmartKey to positionHin the igni-tion lock.
