Warning indicator
N00562800092
If an abnormal condition occurs in the system, the following
indicator will turn on.
Brake assist system
N00567300092
The brake assist system is a device assisting drivers who can-
not depress the brake pedal firmly such as in emergency stop
situations and provides greater braking force.
If the brake pedal is depressed suddenly, the brakes will be
applied with more force than usual.NOTEOnce the brake assist system is operational, it maintains
great braking force even if the brake pedal is lightly
released.
To stop its operation, completely remove your foot from
the brake pedal.
When the brake assist system is in use while driving, you
may feel as if the depressed brake pedal is soft, the pedal
moves in small motions in conjunction with the operation
noise, or the vehicle body and the steering wheel vibrate.
This occurs when the brake assist system is operating nor-
mally and does not indicate faulty operation. Continue to
depress the brake pedal.
When the anti-lock brake system warning light is illumi-
nated, the brake assist system is not functioning.
-ASC indicator
CAUTION
!If the warning is displayed, the hill start assist will
not operate. Start off carefully.Park your vehicle in a safe place and stop the engine.
Restart the engine and check whether the indicator
goes out, in which case the hill start assist is again
working normally.
If they remain displayed or reappear frequently, it is
not necessary to stop the vehicle immediately, but
the vehicle should be inspected by an authorized
Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your
choice as soon as possible.
CAUTION
!The brake assist system is not a device designed to
exercise braking force greater than its capacity.
Make sure to always keep a sufficient distance
between vehicles in front of you without relying too
much on the brake assist system.

Anti-lock braking system warning light
N00531600674
If there is a malfunction in the system, the anti-lock braking
system warning light will come on.
Under normal conditions, the ABS warning light comes on
when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the
operation mode is put in ON and goes off a few seconds later.
CAUTION
!Any of the following indicates that the anti-lock
braking system is not functioning and only the stan-
dard brake system is working. (The standard brake
system is functioning normally.) If this happens,
take your vehicle to an authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.
• When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON”
position or the operation mode is put in ON, the
warning light does not come on or it remains on
and does not go off.• The warning light comes on while driving

If the warning light illuminate while driving
N00531700604
If only the anti-lock braking system warning light illu-
minateAvoid hard braking and high-speed driving. Stop the vehi-
cle in a safe place.
Test the system by restarting the engine and driving at a
speed of about 12 mph (20 km/h) or higher.
If the warning light then remains off during driving, there
is no abnormal condition.
However, if the warning light does not disappear, or if
they come on again when the vehicle is driven, have the
vehicle checked by an authorized MITSUBISHI
MOTORS dealer or repair facility of your choice as soon
as possible. If the anti-lock braking system warning light and brake
warning light illuminate at the same time
The anti-lock braking system and brake force distribution func-
tion may not work, so hard braking could make the vehicle
unstable.
Avoid hard braking and high-speed driving. Stop the vehicle in
a safe place and contact an authorized MITSUBISHI
MOTORS dealer or repair facility of your choice.

3 Electric power steering system (EPS)
N00568400074
The power steering system operates while the engine is run-
ning. It helps reduce the effort needed to turn the steering
wheel.
The power steering system has mechanical steering capability
in case the power assist is lost. If the power assist is lost for
some reason, you will still be able to steer your vehicle, but
you will notice it takes much more effort to steer. If this hap-
pens, have your vehicle inspected at an authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.NOTEDuring repeated full-lock turning of the steering wheel
(for example, while you are manoeuvring the vehicle into
a parking space), a protection function may be activated to
prevent overheating of the power steering system. This
function will make the steering wheel gradually harder to
turn. In this event, limit your turning of the steering wheel
for a while. When the system has cooled down, the steer-
ing effort will return to normal.
If you turn the steering wheel while the vehicle is station-
ary with the headlights on, the headlights may become
dim. This behavior is not abnormal. The headlights will
return to their original brightness after a short while.
Electric power steering system warning lightIf there is a malfunction in the system, the warning light will
come on.
Under normal conditions, the warning lamp comes on when the
ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation
mode is put in ON, and goes off after the engine has started.
WA R N I N G
!Do not stop the engine while the vehicle is moving.
Stopping the engine would make the steering wheel
extremely hard to turn, possibly resulting in an acci-
dent.
CAUTION
!If the warning light appears while the engine is run-
ning, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized
Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your
choice as soon as possible. It may become harder to
turn the steering wheel.

3Active stability control (ASC)
N00559100176
The Active stability control (ASC) takes overall control of the
anti-lock braking system, traction control function and skid
control function to help maintain the vehicle’s control and trac-
tion. Please read this section in conjunction with the page on
the anti-lock braking system, traction control function and skid
control function.
Anti-lock braking system → P. 3 - 7 2
Traction control function → P. 3 - 7 7
Skid control function → P. 3 - 7 7
NOTEAn operating sound or vibration may be emitted from
under the body in the following situations. The sound or
vibration is associated with checking the operations of the
ASC. At this time, you may feel a shock from under the
body and the brake pedal if you depress it. These do not
indicate a malfunction.
• When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position
or the operation mode is put in ON.
• When the vehicle is driven for a while after the engine is
turned on.
When the ASC is activated, you may feel a vibration in
the vehicle body or hear a whining sound from the engine
compartment.
This indicates that the system is operating normally. It
does not indicate a malfunction.
When the anti-lock braking system warning light is illu-
minated, the ASC is not active.
CAUTION
!Do not over-rely on the ASC. Even the ASC cannot
prevent the natural laws of physics from acting on
the vehicle. This system, like any other system, has
limits and cannot help you to maintain traction and
control of the vehicle in all circumstances. Reckless
driving can lead to accidents. It is the driver’s
responsibillty to drive carefully, This means taking
into account the traffic, road and environmental
conditions.Be sure to use the same specified type and size of tire
on all four wheels. Otherwise, the ASC may not
work properly.Do not install any aftermarket limited slip differen-
tial (LSD) on your vehicle. The ASC may stop func-
tioning properly.

CAUTION
!The system may be malfunctioning.
Park your vehicle in a safe place and stop the engine.
Restart the engine and check whether the indicator
goes out. If they go out, there is no abnormal condi-
tion. If they do not go out or appear frequently, it is
not necessary to stop the vehicle immediately, but
you should have your vehicle inspected by an autho-
rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of
your choice as soon as possible.
CAUTION
!When towing the vehicle with only the front wheels
or only the rear wheels raised off the ground, do not
place the ignition switch in the “ON” position or do
not put the operation mode in ON. Placing the igni-
tion switch in the “ON” position or putting the oper-
ation mode in ON could cause the ASC to operate,
resulting in an accident.
Note that the correct towing method depends on the
transmission type and the vehicle’s drive configura-
tion.

The tire pressure monitoring system warning
light
N00532700311
When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the
operation mode is put in ON, the tire pressure monitoring sys-
tem warning light normally illuminates and goes off a few sec-
onds later.
If one or more of the vehicle tires (except for the spare tire) is
significantly under-inflated, the warning light will remain illu-
minated while the ignition switch or the operation mode is in
ON.
Refer to “If the warning light illuminates while driving” on
page 3-90 and take the necessary measures.

Each tire, including the spare (if provided), should be checked
monthly when cold and inflated to the inflation pressure rec-
ommended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard
or tire inflation pressure label. (If your vehicle has tires of a
different size than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or
tire inflation pressure label, you should determine the proper
tire inflation pressure for those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped
with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates
CAUTION
!If the tire pressure monitoring system warning light
does not illuminate when the ignition switch is
turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode
is put in ON, it means that the tire pressure monitor-
ing system is not working properly. Have the system
inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors
dealer.
In such situations, a malfunctioning of the system
may be preventing the monitoring of the tire pres-
sure. Avoid sudden braking, sharp turning and
high-speed driving.
If a malfunction is detected in the tire pressure mon-
itoring system, the tire pressure monitoring system
warning light will blink for approximately 1 minute
and then remain continuously illuminated. The
warning light will issue further warnings each time
the engine is restarted as long as the malfunction
exists.
Check to see whether the warning light goes off after
few minutes driving.
If it then goes off during driving, there is no prob-
lem.
However, if the warning light does not go off, or if it
blinks again when the engine is restarted, have the
vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer.
In such situations, a malfunctioning of the system
may be preventing the monitoring of the tire pres-
sure. For safety reasons, when the warning light
appears while driving, avoid sudden braking, sharp
turning and high-speed driving.

a low tire pressure telltale when one or more of your tires is
significantly under-inflated.
Accordingly, when the low tire pressure telltale illuminates,
you should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and
inflate them to the proper pressure. Driving on a significantly
under-inflated tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to
tire failure.
Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life,
and may affect the vehicle’s handling and stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire
maintenance, and it is the driver’s responsibility to maintain
correct tire pressure, even if under-inflation has not reached the
level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low tire pressure tell-
tale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction
indicator to indicate when the system is not operating properly.
The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire
pressure telltale.
When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash
for approximately one minute and then remain continuously
illuminated. This sequence will continue upon subsequent
vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunction exists.
When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may
not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended.
TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, includ-
ing the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels
on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from functioning prop-
erly. Always check the TPMS malfunction telltale after replac-
ing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that
the replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS
to continue to function properly.
If the warning light illuminates while driving
N00532800501
1. If the tire pressure monitoring system warning light illu-
minates, avoid hard braking, sharp steering maneuvers
and high speeds. You should stop and adjust the tires to
the proper inflation pressure as soon as possible. Adjust
the spare tire at the same time. Refer to “Tires” on page 7-
19.NOTEWhen inspecting or adjusting the tire pressure, do not
apply excessive force to the valve stem to avoid breakage.
After inspecting or adjusting the tire pressure, always
reinstall the valve cap on the valve stem.
Without the valve cap, dirt or moisture could get into the
valve, resulting in damage to the tire inflation pressure
sensor.
Do not use metal valve caps, which may cause a metal
reaction, resulting in corrosion and damage of the tire
inflation pressure sensors.
Once adjustments have been made, the warning light will
go off after a few minutes of driving.

2. If the tire pressure monitoring system warning light
remains illuminated after you have been driving for about
20 minutes after you adjust the tire inflation pressure, one
or more of the tires may have a puncture. Inspect the tire
and if it has a puncture, have it repaired by an authorized
Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon as possible.
NOTETo avoid the risk of damage to the tire inflation pressure
sensors, have any punctured tire repaired by an authorized
Mitsubishi Motors dealer. If the tire repair is not done by
an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer, damage to the tire
inflation pressure sensor is not covered by your warranty.
Do not use an aerosol puncture-repair spray on any tire.
Such a spray could damage the tire inflation pressure sen-
sors.
Have any puncture repaired by an authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer.
Using the tire repair kit may damage the tire inflation
pressure sensor. The vehicle must promptly be inspected
and repaired by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer
after using the tire repair kit.
The tire pressure monitoring system may not work normally in
the following circumstances:
A wireless facility or device using the same frequency is
near the vehicle.
Snow or ice is stuck inside the fenders and/or on the
wheels.
The tire inflation pressure sensor’s battery is dead.
Wheels other than Mitsubishi Genuine wheels are being
used.
Wheels that are not fitted with tire inflation pressure sen-
sors are being used.
Wheels whose ID codes are not memorized by the vehicle
are used.
Compact spare tire (if so equipped) is fitted on a road
wheel.
A window tint that affects the radio wave signals is
installed.
WA R N I N G
!If the warning light illuminates while you are driv-
ing, avoid hard braking, sharp steering maneuvers
and high speeds.
Driving with an under-inflated tire adversely affects
vehicle performance and can result in an accident.
CAUTION
!The warning light may not illuminate immediately
in the event of a tire blowout or rapid leak.
