zIt is the battery to operate the motor andthe air conditioning.In addition to the drive battery, OutlanderPHEV has the auxiliary battery to operatelamps, wipers, etc.zCompact, light-weight lithium ion batterywith high energy density is used for thedrive battery.zThe drive battery has the following char-acteristics.Please read this carefully paying attentionto the following:zThe same as ordinary lithium-ion batter-ies, the battery capacity of the drive bat-tery gradually reduces with time, resultingin reduced cruising range. Depending onthe usage conditions, such as frequentquick acceleration/deceleration,extremely hot weather, storing the vehiclein high ambient temperatures, etc., therate of battery capacity drop will increase.

fuel system parts, observe the followinginstructions:•Run the engine by pressing the batterycharge switch at least once in 3 months.Refer to “Battery charge switch” on page7-23.• Refuel 20 litres or more of fuel every 6months (to make the total refueling amountin 6 months be 20 litres or more).

Drive battery

Since driving at highspeed or climbing on a hill requires higherconsumption of the drive battery thanusual, the EV cruising range is shortened.zSince the air conditioning (cooling orheating) consumes power of the drive bat-tery, its operation results in a shorter EVcruising range. Maintain an appropriatetemperature.zPut the selector lever to “B” (BRAKE)position according to the road condition.To c h a rg e t h e d r i v e b a t t e r y w i t h a p p r o p r i -ate use of the regenerative brake, it can beincreased the EV cruising range.

The Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System(AVAS) is device that uses sound to alertpedestrians of the presence of the vehicle.The system operates when the vehicle speedis about 35 km/h or less and the engine is notrunning.Refer to “Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System(AVAS)” on page 7-24.

The front fog lamps can be operated while theheadlamps or tail lamps are on. Turn the knobin the “ON” direction to turn on the front foglamps. An indicator lamp in the instrumentcluster will also come on. Turn the knob inthe “OFF” direction to turn off the front foglamps. The knob will automatically return toits original position when you release it.
zOn vehicles equipped with the emergencystop signal system, while the hazard warninglamps are blinking due to having manuallypushed the switch, the emergency stop signalsystem does not operate.Refer to “Emergency stop signal system” onpage 7-29.

For economical driving, there are some tech-nical requirements that have to be met. Theprerequisite for low fuel consumption is aproperly adjusted engine. In order to achievelonger life of the vehicle and the most eco-nomical operation, we recommend you tohave the vehicle checked at regular intervalsin accordance with the service standards.Fuel economy and generation of exhaust gasand noise are highly influenced by personaldriving habits as well as the particular operat-ing conditions. The following points shouldbe observed in order to minimize wear ofbrakes, tyres and engine as well as to reduceenvironmental pollution.Av o i d d r i v i n g w h e r e t h e a c c e l e r a t o r p e d a l i spushed way down, such as for unnecessarilysudden starts, acceleration and deceleration.Smoothly depress the accelerator pedal.Observe the speed limit and keep the speed asconstant as possible while driving.
Parking for a long period with the ready indi-cator illuminated will shorten the cruisingrange.At higher the vehicle speed, more drive bat-tery is consumed. Avoid driving at full speed.Even a slight release of the accelerator pedalwill save a significant amount of drive bat-tery.Check the tyre inflation pressures at regularintervals. Low tyre inflation pressureincreases road resistance and fuel consump-tion. In addition, low tyre pressures adverselyaffect tyre wear and driving stability.Do not drive with unnecessary articles in theluggage compartment. Especially during citydriving where frequent starting and stoppingis necessary, the increased weight of the vehi-cle will greatly affect fuel consumption. Also
avoid driving with unnecessary luggage orcarriers, etc., on the roof; the increased airresistance will increase fuel consumption.To o m u c h c o o l i n g / h e a t i n g c a n a ff e c t t h ecruising range, so maintain an appropriatetemperature to extend the cruising range.

Drunk driving is one of the most frequentcauses of accidents.Yo u r d r i v i n g a b i l i t y c a n b e s e r i o u s l y i m p a i r e deven with blood alcohol levels far below thelegal minimum. If you have been drinking,don’t drive. Ride with a designated non-drinking driver, call a cab or a friend, or usepublic transportation. Drinking coffee or tak-ing a cold shower will not make you sober.Similarly, prescription and nonprescriptiondrugs affect your alertness, perception andreaction time. zSynchronized modeIf the driver’s side temperature controlswitch is pressed, the passenger’s sidetemperature will also be controlled to thesame setting temperature as the driver’sside.zDual modeIf the passenger’s side temperature con-trol switch is pressed under synchronizedmode, the system will switch to dualmode.
