For economical driving, there are some tech-nical requirements that have to be met. Theprerequisite for low fuel consumption is aproperly adjusted engine. In order to achievelonger life of the vehicle and the most eco-nomical operation, we recommend you tohave the vehicle checked at regular intervalsin accordance with the service standards.Fuel economy and generation of exhaust gasand noise are highly influenced by personaldriving habits as well as the particular operat-ing conditions. The following points shouldbe observed in order to minimize wear ofbrakes, tyres and engine as well as to reduceenvironmental pollution.Av o i d d r i v i n g w h e r e t h e a c c e l e r a t o r p e d a l i spushed way down, such as for unnecessarilysudden starts, acceleration and deceleration.Smoothly depress the accelerator pedal.Observe the speed limit and keep the speed asconstant as possible while driving.
Parking for a long period with the ready indi-cator illuminated will shorten the cruisingrange.At higher the vehicle speed, more drive bat-tery is consumed. Avoid driving at full speed.Even a slight release of the accelerator pedalwill save a significant amount of drive bat-tery.Check the tyre inflation pressures at regularintervals. Low tyre inflation pressureincreases road resistance and fuel consump-tion. In addition, low tyre pressures adverselyaffect tyre wear and driving stability.Do not drive with unnecessary articles in theluggage compartment. Especially during citydriving where frequent starting and stoppingis necessary, the increased weight of the vehi-cle will greatly affect fuel consumption. Also
avoid driving with unnecessary luggage orcarriers, etc., on the roof; the increased airresistance will increase fuel consumption.To o m u c h c o o l i n g / h e a t i n g c a n a ff e c t t h ecruising range, so maintain an appropriatetemperature to extend the cruising range.

Drunk driving is one of the most frequentcauses of accidents.Yo u r d r i v i n g a b i l i t y c a n b e s e r i o u s l y i m p a i r e deven with blood alcohol levels far below thelegal minimum. If you have been drinking,don’t drive. Ride with a designated non-drinking driver, call a cab or a friend, or usepublic transportation. Drinking coffee or tak-ing a cold shower will not make you sober.Similarly, prescription and nonprescriptiondrugs affect your alertness, perception andreaction time. Consult with your doctor orpharmacist before driving while under theinfluence of any of these medications.

Insert the keyless operation key into the keyslot. Starting the Plug-in Hybrid EV Systemand changing the operation mode should benow possible. Remove the keyless operation key from thekey slot after starting the Plug-in Hybrid EVSystem or changing the operation mode.

switch for three seconds or longer or pressthe power switch three times or morequickly. Plug-in Hybrid EV System stops,the operation mode turns to ACC, and theselector lever position shifts to the “P” posi-tion at very slow speed.zIf you press the power switch when theselector lever position is other than “P” posi-tion while your vehicle is stopped, the selec-tor lever position automatically shifts to “P”position, Plug-in Hybrid EV System stops,and the power mode turns to “OFF”.
zIf the parking lock mechanism is faulty, awarning is displayed on the informationscreen in the multi-information display.When this warning is displayed, Plug-inHybrid EV System ca
nnot be stopped unless
you apply the parking brake and then pressthe power switch. Park on a flat place withthe parking brake securely applied. Haveyour vehicle inspected by a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.

13. Pull out the compressor hose (M) from the
side of the tyre compressor, and thensecurely attach the hose to the tyre valve(H).
14. Place the compressor (N) with its air pres-
sure gauge (O) on top.Pull out the compressor’s power cord (P),insert the plug on the cord into the acces-sory socket (Q), and then put the opera-tion mode of the power switch in ACC.(Refer to “Accessory socket” on page8-66.)Turn ON the compressor switch (R) andinflate the tyre to the specified pressure.(Refer to “Tyre inflation pressures” onpage 11-10.)

15. Check and adjust the tyre pressure with
reference to the air pressure gauge on thecompressor. If you overinflate the tyre,release air by loosening the hose’s end fit-ting.If there is a gap between the tyre andwheel because the tyre has moved inwardfrom the wheel rim, press the periphery ofthe tyre towards the wheel to close the gapbefore running the compressor. (With nogaps, the tyre pressure will rise.)
16. Turn OFF the compressor switch, then
pull the power cord plug out of the socket.
17. Affix the speed restriction sticker (R) to
the three-diamond mark on the steeringwheel.
zAny sand or dust sucked into the compressorcould make the compressor break down. Donot place the compressor directly on anysandy or dusty surface when using it.zDo not disassemble or
modify the compres-
sor. Also, do not subject the air pressuregauge to shock. It
could malfunction.
CAUTIONzBe careful not to get your fingers trappedbetween the tyre and wheel as the tyreinflates.zThe surface of the compressor will get hotwhile the compressor is running. Do notkeep the compressor running continuouslyfor more than 10 minutes. After using thecompressor, wait for the compressor to coolbefore using it again.CAUTION
zIf the compressor becomes sluggish or hotwhile operating, it is overheating. Immedi-ately place the switch in the OFF positionand let the compressor cool down for at least30 minutes.NOTE
zIf the tyre pressure does not rise to the speci-fied level within 10 minutes, the tyre may beso severely damaged that the tyre sealantcannot be used to effect an emergency repair.Please contact a MITSUBISHI MOTORSAuthorised Service Poin

Operation under adverse driving conditions

zDo not drive on a flooded road. If youdrive on a flooded road, not only the Plug-in Hybrid EV System stops but also a fail-ure like electric leakage or short circuitmay occur.If you inevitably had to run on a floodedroad and the vehicle was exposed towater, be sure to have your vehicleinspected by a MITSUBISHI MOTORSAuthorised Service Point.zIf there is water on the brakes after driv-ing through puddles or washing the vehi-cle, resulting in temporarily ineffectivebrakes. In such cases, lightly depress thebrake pedal to see if the brakes operateproperly. If they do not, lightly depressthe pedal several times while driving inorder to dry the brake pads.zWhen driving in rain or on a road withmany puddles a layer of water may formbetween the tyres and the road surface.This reduces a tyre’s frictional resistanceon the road, resulting in loss of steeringstability and braking capability.To c o p e w i t h t h i s , o b s e r v e t h e f o l l o w i n gitems:
zWhen driving on a snow-covered or fro-zen road, it is recommended that you usesnow tyres or snow traction device (tyrechains).Refer to the “Snow tyres” and “Snowtraction device (tyre chains)” sections.zAv o i d h i g h - s p e e d o p e r a t i o n , s u d d e nacceleration, abrupt brake application andsharp cornering.zDepressing the brake pedal during travelon snowy or icy roads may cause tyreslippage and skidding. When tractionbetween the tyres and the road is reducedthe wheels may skid and the vehicle can-not readily be brought to a stop by con-ventional braking techniques. Brakingwill differ, depending upon whether youhave anti-lock brake system (ABS). Asyour vehicle is equipped with ABS, brakeby pressing the brake pedal hard, andkeeping it pressed.zAllow extra distance between your vehi-cle and the vehicle in front of you, andavoid sudden braking.
zAccumulation of ice on the braking sys-tem can cause the wheels to lock. Pullaway from a standstill slowly after con-firming safety around the vehicle.
Drive as slow as possible when driving onbumpy or rutted roads.This vehicle is intended for driving mainlyon roads with firm surface.4WD system makes possible driving on roadswithout special coverage, on flat and firmsurface. Please, remember that off-road abil-ity of your vehicle is limited. Your vehicle isnot intended for driving in heavy off-road,overcoming the rugged terrain, deep ruts, etc.
On a flooded road (a)Drive your vehicle at a slow speed.(b)Do not drive on worn tyres.
(c)Always maintain the specified tyre infla-tion pressures.
On a snow-covered or frozen road
CAUTIONzDo not press the accelerator pedal rapidly. Ifthe wheels break free of the ice, the vehiclecould suddenly start
moving and possibly
cause an accident.
On a bumpy or rutted road
CAUTIONzThe impact on tyres and/or wheels whendriving on a bumpy or rutted road can dam-age the tyre and/or wheel.
