12. Lower the jack all the way and remove it.
NOTE●
Occasionally when the vehicle is jacked up, the grooved portion of the designated point will not come off. When this happens, rock the
vehicle to lower the ram.
●
If the jack is difficult to remove by hand, insert the jack handle (L) into the bracket (M). Then using the handle, remove the jack.
CAUTION
!●
If the release valve is loos
ened too much (2 or more
turns) in the anticlockwise
direction, the jack’s oil
will leak and the jack cannot be used.
●
Close the release valve slowly when lowering the vehicle, or the valve may be damaged.

13. Check your tyre inflation pressure at the next gasstation.
The correct pressures are shown
on the door label. See the
illustration.
To store the flat tyre or spare tyre

1. Attach the wheel to the spare wheel hanger (A) while
aligning the holes in the wheel with the bolts on the spare wheel hanger. Using the wheel nut wrench,
tighten the spare wheel nuts
firmly. Tightening torque 37 to 54 Nm (Achieved by applying a force of 140 to 200 N at the end of the wheel nut wrench s
upplied with the vehicle.)
CAUTION
!●
After changing the tyre
and driving the vehicle
about 1,000 km (620 miles)
, retighten the wheel nuts
to make sure that they have not come loose.
●
If the steering wheel vibr
ates when driving after
changing the tyre, we recommend you to have thetyres checked for balance.
●
Do not mix one type of tyre with another or use a different size from the one listed. This would causeearly wear and poor handling.

t the vehicle using a tow truck.

The engine runs but the vehicle does not move or abnor- mal noise is produced.
●
Inspection of the vehicle’s underside reveals that oil or some other fluid is leaking.
If a wheel gets stuck in a ditch, do not try to tow the vehicle. Please contact your author

Towing the vehicle by a tow truck
CAUTION
!●
This vehicle must not be towed by a tow truck using sling lift type equipment
(Type A) as illustrated.
Using a sling lift will damage the bumper and front end.
●
Be sure to shift the tran
sfer shift lever to the “2H”
position and transport the vehicle with the driving wheels on a carriage (Type C, D or E) as illustrated.Never try to tow with the
transfer shift lever in the
“4H”, “4HLC” or “4LLC” positions and with the front or rear wheels on the ground (Type B or TypeC) as illustrated. This coul
d result in the driving sys-
tem damage or vehicle may
jump at the carriage. If
you cannot shift the transf
er shift lever to the “2H”
position or the transmission is malfunctioning or damaged, transport the ve
hicle with the all wheels
on a carriage (Type D or E) as illustrated.

Towing with front wheels off the ground (Type B)Place the gearshift lever in the

position (automatic transmission). Release the parking brake.
Towing with rear wheels off the ground (Type C)Place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position (manualtransmission) or the selector

position (automatic transmission). Turn the ignition key to the “ACC” position and secure the
steering wheel in a straight-
ahead position w

strap. Never place the
ignition switch in the “LOCK” position when towing.
CAUTION

Never tow an automatic transmission vehicle with the front wheels up (and the rear wheels on theground) (Type B) when the automatic transmission fluid level is low. This may cause serious and expen- sive damage to the transmission.
CAUTION
!●
As your vehicle equipped with the Active Stability & Traction Control system (A
STC) is towed with the
ignition switch in the “ON” position and only thefront wheels or only the rear wheels raised off the ground, the active traction control system may oper- ate, resulting in an accident.

Emergency towingIf towing service is not available in an emergency, your vehicle may be temporarily towed by a rope secured to the towinghook. If your vehicle is to be towed by another vehicle or if your vehicle tows another vehicle, pa
y careful attention to the fol-
lowing points:If your vehicle is to be towed by another vehicle1. The front towing hooks (A) and rear towing hooks (B) are
located as shown in the illustrations. Secure the tow ropeto the towing hook.
NOTE●
Using a wire rope or metal chain can result in damage to the vehicle body. It is best
to use a non-metallic rope. If
you use a wire rope or metal chain, wrap it with cloth atany point where it touches the vehicle body.
●
Use care that the tow rope is
kept as horizontal as possi-
ble. An angled tow rope can damage the vehicle body.
●
Secure the tow rope to the same side towing hook, to keep the tow rope as straight as possible.

2. Keep the engine running.
If the engine is not running, turn the ignition switch to the “ACC” or “ON” position to unlock the steering wheel.
3. Place the gearshift lever in
the “N” (Neutral) position
(with manual transmission) or the selector lever in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position (with automatic transmission).
4. Shift the transfer shift lever to the “2H” position. 5. Turn on the hazard warning
lamps if required by law.
(Follow the local driving laws and regulations.)
6. During towing make sure th
at close contact is maintained
between the drivers of both ve
hicles, and that the vehicles
travel at low speed.
CAUTION
!●
When the engine is not r
unning, the brake booster
and power steering pump do not operate. This means higher brake depression force and highersteering effort are required.
Therefore, vehicle oper-
ation is more difficult than usual.
●
Do not leave the key in the “LOCK” position or do not remove the ignition ke
y from the ignition switch
while driving. The steering
wheel will lock, causing
loss of control.
CAUTION
!●
Avoid sudden braking,
sudden acceleration and
sharp turning; such opera
tion could cause damage
to the towing hooks or the tow rope.People in the vicinity coul
d be injured as a result.
●
When towing or being towed down a long slope, the brakes may overheat reduci
ng the effectiveness. In
this situation, have your
vehicle transported by a
tow truck.
●
When the vehicle with auto
matic transmission is to
be towed by another vehicl
e with all wheels on the

the rear towing hook.

Do not tow a vehicle heavier than your own vehicle.

When you are going to tow another vehicle, move the transfer shift lever
to the “4H” position.
Selecting the “2H” drive m
ay increase the differen-
tial oil temperature, resulting in possible damage tothe driving system. Further, the drive train will be subjected to excessive loading possibly leading
to oil leakage, component
seizure, or other serious faults.

On a flooded road●
Avoid flooded roads. Water could enter the brake discs, resulting in temporarily ineff
ective brakes. In such cases,
lightly depress the brake pedal
to see if the brakes operate
properly. If they do not, li
ghtly depress the pedal several
times while driving in order to dry the brake pads.
●
When driving in rain or on a road with many puddles a layer of water may form between the tyres and the road surface. This reduces a tyre’s fricti
onal resistance on the road,
resulting in loss of steering stability and braking capabil- ity. To cope with this, observe the following items:
On a snow-covered or frozen road ●
When driving on a snow-covered or frozen road, it is rec- ommended that you use snow tyres or tyre chains. Refer to the “Snow tyres” and “Tyre chains” sections.
●
Avoid high-speed operation,
sudden acceleration, abrupt
brake application and sharp cornering.
●
Depressing the brake pedal during travel on snowy or icy roads may cause tyre slippage and skidding. When trac- tion between the tyres and the
road is reduced the wheels
may skid and the vehicle canno
t readily be brought to a
stop by conventional braking techniques. Braking will dif- fer, depending upon whether you have anti-lock brakes(ABS). As your vehicle is equipped with ABS, brake by pressing the brake pedal hard, and keeping it pressed.
●
Allow extra distance between y
our vehicle and the vehicle
in front of you, and avoid sudden braking.
On a bumpy or rutted road Drive as slow as possible when driving on bumpy or rutted roads.
