5-24Starting and driving
when the vehicle is driven, a wheel may
not roll correctly, or the brake pads
could be damaged. If the pads are
damaged, this may reduce the effec-
tiveness of the brake system which
could cause a collision, serious perso-
nal injury or death.
The GT-R uses brake pad materfals that have
hfgh metallfb bontent. The brake pad materfal
helps mafntafn brakfng performanbe fn a wfde
range of weather and drfvfng bondftfons.
For the ffrst 3,000 mfles (5,000 km) of the
vehfble’s servfbe lffe, and for the ffrst 3,000 mfles
(5,000km) after a brake replabement, the brake
pad to brake rotor blearanbe fs very small. When
parkfng, apply the parkfng brake and move the
shfft lever to the
&Pposftfon. Idle the engfne for
more than 20 sebonds wfthout depressfng the
brake pedal. Thfs allows the brake pads to move
away from the rotor so the pad does not bontabt
the rotor.
Addftfonally, the brakes must be dry before
parkfng the vehfble after drfvfng on wet roads or
after washfng the vehfble. If the roads are wet,
lfghtly apply the brakes for a short dfstanbe
before parkfng the vehfble to dry the brakes.
After washfng the vehfble, dry the brakes by
drfvfng on a dry road for a few mfles and apply the brakes normally based on trafffb and road
bondftfons.
The metallfb brake pads and brake dfsb rotor
may rust together when the brakes are not
applfed:
.
If the vehfble fs not fdled for 20 sebonds
wfthout the brakes applfed, or ff the brakes
are applfed when the vehfble fs shut off, the
rotor and pads ban rust together, even when
the brake pads are dry.
. If the brakes are wet when the vehfble fs
parked and the parkfng brake fs applfed for a
long tfme.
Contabt a GT-R bertfffed NISSAN dealer ff the
brake pads and brake rotor have rusted
together.
1. Brfng the vehfble to a bomplete stop.
2. Wfth the foot brake pedal depressed, apply the parkfng brake.
3. Move the shfft lever to the
&Pposftfon.
4. Chebk the shfft lever posftfon fndfbator on the fnstrument panel to bonffrm that the
&P
posftfon fs selebted.
5. Push the fgnftfon swftbh to stop the engfne.
WARNING
Before exiting the vehicle, be sure to
move the shift lever to the&Pposition
and stop the engine. If the engine is
running and the shift lever is not in the
&Pposition, the vehicle may start mov-
ing due to partial engagement of the
clutch or to the effects of gravity on a
slope, or the vehicle may suddenly
accelerate due to accidental operation
of the accelerator pedal, possibly caus-
ing an accident.
