4.CHECK INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect intake air control valve control solenoid valve (1)
harness connector.
–: Vehicle front
–Electronic controlled engine mount control solenoid valve (2)
–Oil filter (3)
3. Turn ignition switch ON.
4. Check voltage between intake air control valve control solenoid
valve terminal 2 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 6.
NG >> GO TO 5.
5.DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
lHarness connectors E9, F4
lHarness for open or short between IPDM E/R and intake air control valve control solenoid valve
lHarness for open or short between ECM and intake air control valve control solenoid valve
>> Repair open circuit or short to power in harness or connectors.
6.CHECK INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE OUTPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT
FOR OPEN AND SHORT
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect ECM harness connector.
3. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 15 and intake air control valve control solenoid valve ter-
minal 1. Refer to Wiring Diagram.
4. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 7.
NG >> Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
7.CHECK INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE
Refer toEC-318, "
Component Inspection".
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 8.
NG >> Replace intake air control valve control solenoid valve.

8.CHECK VACUUM PUMP
Refer toEM-42, "
VACUUM PUMP".
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 9.
NG >> Replace vacuum pump assembly.
9.CHECK INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ACTUATOR
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Install a vacuum pump A to intake air control valve actuator (1).
3. Make sure that the intake air control valve actuator rod moves
smoothly when applying vacuum of -53.3 kPa (-533 mbar, -400
mmHg, -15.75 inHg) and releasing it.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 10.
NG >> Replace intake air control valve actuator.
10.CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT
Refer toEC-70, "
TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT".

2. Apply 12V direct current between turbocharger boost control
solenoid valve terminals.
3. Check air passage continuity of intake air control valve control
solenoid valve under the following conditions.
Operation takes less than 1 second.
If NG, replace intake air control valve control solenoid valve.

The refrigerant pressure sensor (1) is installed at the condenser of
the air conditioner system. The sensor uses an electrostatic volume
pressure transducer to convert refrigerant pressure to voltage. The
voltage signal is sent to ECM, and ECM controls cooling fan system.

Specification data are reference valves, and are measured between each terminal and ground.
CAUTION:
Do not use ECM ground terminals when measuring input/output voltage. Doing so may damage the
ECM's transistor. Use a ground other than ECM terminals, such as the ground.

1.CHECK REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SENSOR OVERALL FUNCTION
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn A/C switch and blower switch ON.
3. Check voltage between ECM terminal 53 and ground with CON-
SULT-II or tester.
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> GO TO 2.
2.CHECK GROUND CONNECTIONS
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Loosen and retighten three ground screws on the body.
Refer toEC-78, "
Ground Inspection".
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Repair or replace ground connections.Voltage: 1.0 - 4.0V

*: This signal is sent to the ECM through CAN communication line.
BASIC ASCD SYSTEM
Refer to Owner's Manual for ASCD operating instructions.
Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) allows a driver to keep vehicle at predetermined constant speed
without depressing accelerator pedal. Driver can set vehicle speed in advance between approximately 40 km/
h(25MPH)and185km/h(115MPH).
ECM controls fuel injection value to regulate engine speed.
Operation status of ASCD is indicated by CRUISE indicator and SET indicator in combination meter. If any
malfunction occurs in ASCD system, it automatically deactivates control.
SET OPERATION
Press ASCD MAIN switch. (The CRUISE indicator in combination meter illuminates.)
When vehicle speed reaches a desired speed between approximately 40 km/h (25 MPH) and 185 km/h (115
MPH), press SET/COST switch. (Then SET indicator in combination meter illuminates.)
ACCEL OPERATION
If the RESUME/ACCELERATE switch is depressed during cruise control driving, increase the vehicle speed
until the switch is released or vehicle speed reaches maximum speed controlled by the system.
And then ASCD will keep the new set speed.
CANCEL OPERATION
When any of following conditions exist, cruise operation will be canceled.
lCANCEL switch is depressed
lMore than 2 switches at ASCD steering switch are depressed at the same time (Set speed will be cleared)
lBrake pedal is depressed
lClutch pedal is depressed or gear position is changed to the neutral position (M/T models)
lSelector lever is changed to N, P, R position (A/T models)
lVehicle speed decreased to 13 km/h (8 MPH) lower than the set speed
When the ECM detects any of the following conditions, the ECM will cancel the cruise operation and inform
the driver by blinking indicator lamp.
lMalfunction for some self-diagnoses regarding ASCD control: SET lamp will blink quickly.
If MAIN switch is turned to OFF during ASCD is activated, all of ASCD operations will be canceled and vehicle
speed memory will be erased.
COAST OPERATION
When the SET/COAST switch is depressed during cruise control driving, decrease vehicle set speed until the
switch is released. And then ASCD will keep the new set speed.
RESUME OPERATION
When the RESUME/ACCELERATE switch is depressed after cancel operation other than depressing MAIN
switch is performed, vehicle speed will return to last set speed. To resume vehicle set speed, vehicle condition
must meet following conditions.

REMOVAL
WARNING:
To avoid the danger of being scalded, do not drain engine coolant when engine is hot.
1. Drain engine coolant. Refer toCO-7, "
Changing Engine Coolant".
2. Remove engine cover (1).
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage engine cover surface.
3. Disconnect air inlet hose from throttle chamber. Refer toEM-18, "
CHARGE AIR COOLER".
4. Remove fuel filter. Refer toFL-4, "
FUEL FILTER".
5. Remove oil level gauge guide. Refer toEM-36, "
OIL PAN AND OIL STRAINER".
6. Remove fuel hoses and fuel gallery. Refer toEM-44, "
INJECTION TUBE AND FUEL INJECTOR".
lTo prevent fuel from flowing out, plug the opening of the hose with plug after disconnection.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to spill fuel in the engine component.
lAdd marks as necessary for easier installation.
7. Remove vacuum galleries and vacuum hoses.
lAdd marks as necessary for easier installation.
8. Disconnect EGR volume control valve water hoses and wiring harness.
9. Disconnect heater feed hose, water hoses, and remove heater feed pipe.
10. Remove EGR cooler (A/T models) or EGR tube (M/T models).
11. Remove injection tube center. Refer toEM-44, "
Removal and Installation".
CAUTION:
Be careful not to spill fuel in the engine component.

13. Loosen bolts and nuts in the reverse order of that shown in the
figure, and remove intake manifold.
CAUTION:
Cover engine openings to avoid entry of foreign materials.
14. Remove EGR volume control valve and throttle chamber from intake manifold.
INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL
Surface Distortion
lCheck distortion on the mounting surface with a straightedge
and feeler gauge.
lIf it exceeds the limit, replace intake manifold.
INSTALLATION
Note the following, and install in the reverse order of removal.
lInstall intake manifold.
–Tighten fixing bolts and nuts in numerical order as shown in the
figure.
–If stud bolts were removed, tighten them to the specified torque.
lInstall EGR tube (M/T models).
–Tighten fixing bolts and nuts in numerical order as shown in the figure.

REMOVAL
lAfter applying penetrative lubricant to the mounting nuts, check for the penetration of the lubricant, and
then loosen the nuts to remove.
1. Drain engine coolant (4WD models). Refer toCO-7, "
Changing Engine Coolant".
2. Remove air inlet hose and air inlet pipe. Refer toEM-18, "
CHARGE AIR COOLER".
3. Remove air duct and air inlet pipes. Refer toEM-15, "
AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT".
4. Remove exhaust manifold cover. Refer toEM-34, "
EXHAUST MANIFOLD".
5. Remove exhaust outlet and catalyst. Refer toEM-26, "
CATALYST".
6. Remove eye bolt and water hose from water tube (4WD models).
7. Loosen and remove eye-bolts from oil feed tube.
8. Disconnect oil return hose from oil return tube.
9. Remove turbocharger with water tube (4WD models) and oil feed tube and oil return tube.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to deform water tube and oil feed tube and oil return tube.
10. Remove water tube (4WD models) and oil feed tube and oil return tube from turbocharger.
CAUTION:
lDo not disassemble or adjust the turbocharger.
lBe careful not to contact with the vehicle.
lDo not hold turbocharger boost control actuator and actuator rod.
Water Tube and Oil Tube
lClean inside of water tube (4WD models), oil feed tube and oil return tube, and check tubes for clogging.
lReplace water tube (4WD models), oil feed tube and/or oil return tube if clogging still exists after cleaning.

When the compressor wheel turbine, wheel or rotor shaft is damaged, remove all the fragments and
foreign matter left in the following passages in order to prevent a secondary malfunction:
