Maintenance requirements
General maintenance should be performed on a daily basis. This can
be done by yourself or by a Scion dealer.
Scheduled maintenance should be performed at specified intervals
according to the maintenance schedule.
For details about maintenance items and schedules, refer to the
“Scheduled Maintenance Guide” or “Owner’s Manual Supplement”.
You can perform some maintenance procedures by yourself.
Please be aware that do-it-yourself maintenance may affect warranty
coverage.
The use of Scion Repair Manuals is recommended.
For details about warranty coverage, refer to the separate “Owner’s
Warranty Information Booklet” or “Owner’s Manual Supplement”.
To ensure safe and economical driv ing, day-to-day care and reg-
ular maintenance are essential. It is the owner’s responsibility to
perform regular checks. Scion recommends performing the fol-
lowing maintenance:

General maintenance
Listed below are the general maintenance items that should be
performed at the intervals specified in the “Owner’s Warranty
Information Booklet” or “Owner’s Manual Supplement/
Scheduled Maintenance Guide”. It is recommended that any
problem you notice should be brought to the attention of your
Scion dealer or qualified service shop for advice.

Vehicle exterior

Doors• Do the doors operate smoothly?
Hood• Does the hood lock system workproperly?
Fluid leaks
• There should not be any signs offluid leakage after the vehicle has
been parked.
Tires
• Is the tire inflation pressure cor-rect?
• The tires should not be dam- aged or excessively worn.
• Have the tires been rotated according to the maintenance
schedule?
• The wheel nuts should not be loose.

If the filter is dirty, clean by blow-
ing compressed air through the fil-
ter as shown in the illustration.
Hold the air gun 2 in. (5 cm) from
the filter and blow for approxi-
mately 2 minutes at 72 psi (500
kPa, 5.0 kgf/cm
2 or bar).
If an air gun is not available, have
the filter cleaned by your Scion
dealer.
Replace the air conditioning filter
with a new one.
The “ UP” marks shown on the fil-
ter should be pointing up.
■ Checking interval
Inspect, clean and replace the air conditioning filter according to the mainte-
nance schedule. In dusty areas or areas with heavy traffic flow, more frequent
cleaning or early replacement may be required. (For scheduled maintenance
information, please refer to the “Scheduled Maintenance Guide” or \
“Owner’s
Manual Supplement”.)
■ If air flow from the vents decreases dramatically
The filter may be clogged. Check the filter and clean or replace if nece\
ssary.
