off. It cannot, however, be operated once either side door is opened.
■ Jam protection function
If an object is detected between the moon roof and the frame while closing
or tilting down, travel is stopped and the moon roof opens slightly.
■ If the moon roof cannot be closed
If the moon roof cannot be closed, such as when the jam protection function
activates accidentally due to a malfunction, pressing and holding the
“CLOSE” switch closes the moon roof.
After this, to make the automatic opening function and jam protection func-
tion available again, press and hold t he “CLOSE” switch until the moon roof
closes fully and then opens slightly.
If the functions do not activate, contact your Scion dealer.
■ To reduce moon roof wind noise
Drive with the moon roof opened to slightly before the fully open position as
driving with the moon roof opened fully will cause wind noise.
■ Sunshade
The sunshade can be opened and closed manually. ( P. 264)

The vehicle’s keys have built-in transponder chips that prevent the
engine from starting if a key has not been previously registered in
the vehicle’s on-board computer.
Never leave the keys inside the vehicle when you leave the vehicle.
This system is designed to help prevent vehicle theft but does not
guarantee absolute security against all vehicle thefts.

the key has been removed
from the engine switch to indi-
cate that the system is operat-
ing.

CAUTION
■SRS airbag precautions
● Do not hang coat hangers or other hard objects on the coat hooks. All of
these items could become projectiles and may cause death or serious
injury, should the SRS curtain shield airbags deploy.
● If a vinyl cover is put on the area where the SRS knee airbag will deploy,
be sure to remove it.
●Do not attach anything to or lean any-
thing against areas such as the dash-
board, steering wheel pad and lower
portion of the instrument panel.
These items can become projectiles
when the SRS driver, front passenger
and knee airbags deploy.
● Do not attach anything to areas such as
a door, windshield glass, side door
glass, front or rear pillar, roof side rail or
assist grip.
● Vehicles without a smart key system:
Do not attach any heavy, sharp or hard
objects such as keys and accessories
to the key. The objects may restrict the
SRS knee airbag inflation or be thrust
into the driver’s seat area by the force
of the deploying airbag, thus causing a
danger.
