When the headlight switch is turned on,
the brightness of the display will be re-
duced.
You can adjust the brightness of the dis-
play. To adjust the brightness, see “Instru-
ment panel light control” on page 88.
CAUTION
Do not operate the switches while the
vehicle is moving. Make sure to oper-
ate the switches when the vehicle is
stopped.
1. Clock
To adjust the clock, the engine switch
must be in the “ON” position and the ve-
hicle must be stopped.
Pushing the “DISP” switch flashes the in-
dicator for the minute and you can adjust
the minute.
Press the “DISP” switch until the desired
minute will appear.
After 5 or more seconds pass without op-
erating, the indicator for the hour flashes.
Then you can adjust the hour.
Press the “DISP” switch until the desired
hour will appear. After 5 or more seconds pass without op-
erating, the indicator will return to the nor-
mal display.
If quick adjustment to a full hour is de-
sired, push the “DISP” switch for 1 sec-
ond.
For example, if the “DISP” switch is de-
pressed when the time is between
1:01—1:29, the time will change to 1:00.
If the time is between 1:30—1:59, the
time will change to 2:00.
If the electrical power source has been
disconnected from the clock, the time dis-
play will automatically be set to 1:00.
2. Outside temperature display (“C” or “ F”)
The display indicates between the range
of –30 C (–22 F) and 50 C (122 F).
Each time you push the “DISP” switch for
1 second, the display switches between
“  C” and “ F”.
If an abnormality exists in the connection
of the outside air temperature sensor, “––”
will appear on the display. If “––” appears,
contact your Scion dealer. In the following situations, the correct out-
side temperature may not be displayed, or
the display may take longer than normal
to change.
When stopped, or driving at low
speeds (less than 20 km/h [12 mph])
When the outside temperature has
changed suddenly (at the entrance/exit
of a garage, tunnel, etc.)
3. Instantaneous fuel consumption (“MPG”)
The instantaneous fuel consumption is
calculated and displayed based on dis-
tance and fuel consumption with the
engine running.
Note that an accurate figure may not be
shown in the following cases.
The vehicle is stopped with the engine
running. (The display will indicate the
extremely high fuel consumption.)
The vehicle is driving down a long
slope, applying the engine brake. (The
display will indicate the extremely low
fuel consumption.)
The calculation is reset when the engine
switch is turned off.

4. Average fuel consumption (“AVG. MPG”)
Average fuel consumption is calculated
and displayed based on total driving
distance and total fuel consumption
with the engine running.
To reset the calculations, push and hold
the “DISP” switch for more than 1 second.
Every time you refuel the vehicle, the cal-
culation is reset.
5. Driving range (“RANGE MI”)
The distance the vehicle can travel with
the remaining fuel is calculated and
displayed based on the quantity of re-
maining fuel and past fuel consumption.
The driving range display indicates the
approximate distance that you can drive
until the fuel gauge reaches “E”. It is
different from the actual distance traveled.
Every time you refuel the vehicle, the cal-
culation is reset. However, when only a
small amount of fuel is added to the tank,
the display may not be reset. The actual driving range varies with driv-
ing habits and road conditions. If fuel con-
sumption is good, the driving range will be
longer than indicated. If fuel consumption
is poor, the driving range will be shorter
than indicated.
If the low fuel level warning light comes
on, refuel the vehicle even if the display
indicates that the vehicle can be driven
further.
6. Average vehicle speed (“AVG. MPH”)
Average vehicle speed is calculated and
displayed based on total driving dis-
tance and total driving time with the
engine running.
To reset the calculations, push and hold
the “DISP” switch for more than 1 second.
7. Elapsed time (“E/T”)
The elapsed time after the engine
switch is turned on is displayed.
When the engine switch is turned on, driv-
ing time is counted from 0:00. Up to 99:59
(99 hours, 59 minutes) can be displayed.
When the driving time exceeds 99:59, the
counter returns to 0:00.
To reset the calculations, push and hold
the “DISP” switch for more than 1 second.
Power outlet
The power outlet is designed for power
supply for car accessories. To use it,
open as shown.
The engine switch must be in the “ACC”
or “ON” position for the power outlet to be
used.

NOTICE
To prevent the fuse from being
blown, do not use the electricity
over the total vehicle capacity of
12V/120W.
 To prevent the battery from being
discharged, do not use the power
outlet longer than necessary when
the engine is not running.
 Close the power outlet lid when the
power outlet is not in use. Inserting
anything other than an appropriate
plug that fits the outlet, or allowing
any liquid to get into the outlet may
cause electrical failure or short cir-
cuits.

Steering switches are installed on the left
side of the steering wheel.
You can use these switches to operate
the audio volume control, radio, CD player
and so on.

Operate the switches with due care
while you are driving to avoid acci-

By connecting a USB
−compatible portable
audio device or USB memory to the USB
adapter, you can listen to music from the
portable audio device or USB memory
through the vehicle’s speaker system.
AUX adapter:
By inserting a mini plug into the AUX
adapter, you can listen to music from a
portable audio device through the vehicle’s
speaker system.
If you install an audio system other than
a genuine audio system, you will not be
able to use the USB adapter or AUX
adapter.

CAUTION
When using the USB adapter or AUX
adapter, observe the following in-
structions. Failure to do so could re-
sult in accident or injury.
Take care that the portable audio

The cup holder is designed for holding
cups or drinkcans securely in its
holes.
CAUTION
Do not place anything else other
than cups or drinkcans in the cup
holder, as such items may be
thrown about and possibly injure
people in the vehicle during sudden
braking or in an accident. If pos-
sible, cover hot drinks to prevent
burns.
To reduce the chance of injury in
case of an accident or a sudden
stop while driving, keep the cup
holder closed when it is not in use.The bottle holders are designed to hold
bottles securely.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to use the holders for
purposes other than which they were
intended. Inappropriately sized or
shaped objects may be thrown about
in the compartment and possibly in-
jure people in the vehicle during a
sudden braking or an accident.
NOTICE
When using a bottle holder, put a cap
on the bottle. Otherwise, the liquid
will spill over when opening or clos-
ing the door.

To open the luggage storage box, turn
the knobs to the unlock position and

up the front edge of the lid and return
it to its original position as shown in
the illustration. Then, turn the knobs to
the lock position.

Floor mat
Use a floor mat of the correct size.
If the vehicle carpet and floor mat have
2 holes, then they are designed for use
with locking clips. Attach the floor mat to
the vehicle carpet using the clips. Lock
the clips into the holes in the vehicle
carpet.

Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in the
floor mat slipping and interfering with
the movement of the pedals during
driving, resulting in an accident.
Make sure the floor mat is properly
placed on the vehicle carpet and
the correct side faces upward.

Breakin period
Drive gently and avoid high speeds.
Your vehicle does not need an elaborate
break−in. But following a few simple tips
for the first 1600 km (1000 miles) can add
to the future economy and long life of
your vehicle:
Avoid full throttle acceleration when
starting and driving.
Avoid racing the engine.
Try to avoid hard stops during the first
300 km (200 miles).
Do not drive slowly with the manual
transmission in a high gear.
Do not drive for a long time at any
single speed, either fast or slow.
Fuel
FUEL TYPE
Your new vehicle must use only un-
leaded gasoline.
To help prevent gas station mix −ups, your
Scion has a smaller fuel tank opening.
The special nozzle on pumps with un-
leaded fuel will fit it, but the larger stan-
dard nozzle on pumps with leaded gas will
not.
At a minimum, the gasoline you use
should meet specifications of ASTM
D4814 in the U.S.A. and CGSB 3.5 −M93
in Canada.
NOTICE
 Do not use improper fuels. If im-
proper fuels are used the engine
will be damaged.
 Do not use leaded gasoline. Use of
leaded gasoline will cause the
threeway catalytic converter to
lose its effectiveness and the emis-
sion control system to function im-
properly. Also, this can increase
maintenance costs.
OCTANE RATING
Select Octane Rating 87 (Research Oc-
tane Number 91) or higher.
Use of unleaded gasoline with an octane
rating lower than 87 may result in engine
knocking. Persistent knocking can lead to
engine damage.
If your engine knocks...
If you detect heavy knocking even when
using the recommended fuel, or if you
hear steady knocking while holding a
steady speed on level roads, consult your
Scion dealer.
However, occasionally, you may notice
light knocking for a short time while accel-
erating or driving up hills. This is normal
and there is no need for concern.
GASOLINES CONTAINING DETERGENT
ADDITIVES
Scion recommends the use of gasoline
that contain detergent additives to
avoid buildup of engine deposits.
However, all gasoline sold in the U.S.
contains detergent additives to keep clean
and/or clean intake systems.
