coolingsystem.Ifthetemperatureisabnor-
mallyhighandtheneedleentersthered
zone,amessageisshowninthedisplay.
Bearinmindthatextralampsinfrontoftheair
intakereducethecoolingcapacityathigh
outsidetemperatureandhighengineloads.

Showsthespeedofthecar.

Thetripodometersareusedformeasuring
shortdistances.Theright-handdigitdisplays

temperatureliesbetween+2°Cand–5°C,a
snowflakesymbolisshowninthedisplay.
Thissymbolservesasawarningforslippery
roadsurfaces.
Whenthecarisorwasstationary,theoutside
temperaturegaugemayreadahigher
readingthanactual.

Turnthebuttontosettheclock.

Whenthelampintheinstrumentpanellights,
approximately8litresofusablefuelremainin
thetank.

symbols/lightsareworking.Whentheengine
starts,allthesymbolsshouldgooutexcept
thehandbrakesymbol,whichextinguishes
whenthehandbrakeisreleased.
Iftheenginedoesnotstart
withinfiveseconds,allsymbols
extinguishexceptthesymbols
forafaultinthecar’semissions
systemandforlowoilpressure.Certainsymbolsmayhaveno
function,dependingonthecar’sspecifica-
tions.
Warningsymbolinthecentreof
theinstrumentpanel
Thissymbolislitwitharedoramber
glowdependingontheseverityof
thefault.
Redsymbol
–Stopthecar.Readthemessageinthe
display.
Symbolandmessagetextarevisibleuntilthe
faulthasbeenrectified.
Yellowsymbol
–Readthemessageinthedisplay.
Remedy!
ThemessagetextisclearedusingtheREAD
button,seepage47,ordisappearsautomat-
icallyafter2minutes.NOTE!Whenthemessagetext"TIMEFOR
REGULARSERVICE"isshown,thesymbol
lampandmessagetextareclearedusingthe
READbutton,ordisappearautomatically
after2minutes.

systemisnotfunctioning.Thecar’s
normalbrakingsystemcontinuesto
work,butwithouttheABSfunction.
–Stopthecarinasafeplaceandswitchoff
theengine.Restarttheengine.
–Ifthewarningsymbolgoesout,continue
driving.Itwasanindicatorerror.
–Ifthewarningsymbolremainslit,driveto
anauthorisedVolvoworkshoptohavethe
ABSsystemchecked.
Faultinbrakesystem
IftheBRAKEsymbollights,the
brakefluidlevelmaybetoolow.
–Stopthecarinasafeplaceandcheckthe
brakefluidreservoirlevel.
IfthereservoirlevelisbelowMINthecar
shouldnotbedrivenfurther.Haveittowedto
anauthorisedVolvoworkshoptohavethe
brakesystemchecked.
IftheBRAKEandABSwarning
symbolslightatthesametime,there
maybeaprobleminthebrakeforce
distribution.
–Stopthecarinasafeplaceand
switchofftheengine.Restartthe
engine.Ifbothsymbolsgoout,itwasanindicator
error.
Ifthewarningsymbolsremainlit,check
thebrakefluidreservoirlevel.
IfthereservoirlevelisbelowMIN,thecar
shouldnotbedrivenfurther.Haveit
towedtoanauthorisedVolvoworkshop
tohavethebrakesystemchecked.
Ifthebrakefluidlevelisnormalandthe
lampsremainlit,carefullydrivethecarto
thenearestauthorisedVolvoworkshopto
havethebrakesystemchecked.
Seatbeltreminder
Thelampremainslituntilthedriver
andfrontseatpassengerputon
theirseatbelts.
Lowoilpressure
Ifthelamplightswhiledriving,
engineoilpressureistoolow.Stop
theengineimmediatelyandcheck
theoillevel.Ifthelamplightsbuttheoillevelisnormal,stopthecarandcontactan
authorisedVolvoworkshop.
Faultincar’semissionssystem
ContactanauthorisedVolvo
workshoptohavethesystem
checked.
FaultinSRS
IfafaultintheSRSsystemis
detectedthewarningsymbolwill
remainlitorlightupwhiledriving.

isprobablyafaultintheelectrical

Thislamplightstoindicatethatthe
engineisbeingpreheated.Youcan
startthecarwhenthelampgoes
out.Appliestocarswithdiesel
enginesonly.

lightatthesametime,thereisariskthat
therearendwillhaveatendencytoslide

systemchecked.

Undernormaldrivingconditions,the
DSTCsystemimprovesthecar’sroad
safety,butthisshouldnotbetakenasa
reasontoincreasespeed.Alwaysfollow
theusualprecautionsforsafecornering

isaccompaniedbyamessageinthedisplay.
Onceyouhavereadandunderstoodthe
message,presstheREADbutton(A).
Messageswhichhavebeenreadarecleared
fromthedisplayandstoredinthecar’s
memory.Faultmessageswillremaininthe
memoryuntilthefaulthasbeenremedied.
Veryseriousfaultmessagescannotbe
erasedfromthedisplay.Theyremaininthe
displayuntilthefaultisremedied.
Messagesstoredinthememorycanberead
again.PresstheREADbutton(A)tosee
storedmessages.Scrollthroughthemessagesstoredinthememorybypressing
theREADbutton.PresstheREADbuttonto
returnreadmessagestothememory.
Ifawarningmessageinterruptswhenyouare
inthetripcomputermenusorwishtousethe
telephone,youmustfirstacknowledgethe
messagebypressingtheREADbutton(A).
