COUPLERS AND LEADS CONNECTION
INSPECTION
1. Check:
Couplers and leads connection
Rust/dust/looseness/short-circuit →
Repair or replace.
STARTER MOTOR OPERATION
1. Connect the positive battery terminal 1
and starter motor lead 2 with a jumper
lead 3.
Not operate → Repair or replace the
starter motor.
WARNING
A wire that is used as a jumper lead must
have at least the same capacity or more
as that of the a battery lead, otherwise the
jumper lead may burn.
This check is likely to produce sparks,
therefore make sure nothing flammable is
in the vicinity.
STARTING CIRCUIT CUT-OFF RELAY
INSPECTION
1. Remove:
Starting circuit cut-off relay
2. Inspect:
Starting circuit cut-off relay conduct
Use 12 V battery.
Battery (+) lead → Red/White lead 1
Battery (–) lead → Sky blue lead 2
Tester (+) lead → Red/White lead 3
Tester (–) lead → Red/White lead 4

KONTROLLE VON LEITUNGSSTECKERN
UND LEITUNGSVERBINDUNGEN
1. Prüfen:
Leitungsstecker und Leitungsverbin-
dungen
Rost/Staub/Lockerheit/Kurzschluß →
Instand setzen oder erneuern.
STARTERMOTORBETRIEB
1. Die positive Batterieklemme 1 und die
Startermotorleitung 2 mit einem Über-
brückungskabel 3 verbinden.
Keine Funktion → Den Startermotor
instand setzen oder erneuern.
WARNUNG
Ein als Überbrückungskabel verwendetes
Kabel muß mindestens die gleiche Kapa-
zität wie die des Batteriekabels haben,
andernfalls besteht die Gefahr des Durch-
brennens.
Bei dieser Prüfung können leicht Funken
auftreten, deshalb unbedingt sicherstel-
len, daß kein entflammbares Material in
der Nähe ist.
KONTROLLE DES STARTERKREIS-
UNTERBRECHERRELAIS
1. Demontieren:
Starterkreis-Unterbrecherrelais
2. Kontrollieren:
Starterkreis-Unterbrecherrelais Durchgang
12-V-Batterie verwenden.
Batteriekabel (+) → Kabel rot/weiß 1
Batteriekabel (–) → Kabel hellblau 2
Meßkabel (+) → Kabel rot/weiß 3
Meßkabel (–) → Kabel rot/weiß 4

1. Contrôler:
Connexion des raccords et des fils
Rouille/poussière/desserrage/court-circuit
→ Réparer ou changer.
FONCTIONNEMENT DU MOTEUR DE
DEMARREUR
1. Raccorder la borne de batterie positive 1 et
le fil de moteur du démarreur 2 à un câble de
connexion de batterie 3.
Pas de fonctionnement → Réparer ou chan-
ger le moteur de démarreur.
AVERTISSEMENT
Le fil utilisé pour la connexion doit avoir au
moins la même capacité que celui de la batte-
rie, sinon il risque de brûler.
Lors de ce contrôle, des étincelles peuvent se
produire. Se tenir à l’écart de produits inflam-
mables.

Relais du coupe-circuit de démarrage
2. Inspecter:
Conducteur du relais de coupe-circuit de
démarrage
Utiliser une batterie de 12 V.

INSPECTION AND REPAIR

Dirt → Clean it with #600 grit sandpaper.
2. Measure:
Commutator diameter a
Out of specification → Replace the
starter motor.
3. Measure:
Mica undercut a
Out of specification → Scrape the mica
to the proper value (a hacksaw blade
can be ground to fit).
NOTE:
The mica insulation of the commutator must be
undercut to ensure proper operation of com-
mutator.
Commutator wear limit:
16.6 mm (0.65 in)
Mica undercut:
1.35 mm (0.05 in)
4. Measure:
Armature assembly resistance (com-
mutator and insulation)
Out of specification → Replace the
starter motor.
Measurement steps:
Measure the armature assembly resis-
tances with the pocket tester.
