A WARNING
-Never adjust the driver's or front passen­
ger seat while the vehicle is moving . If
you do this while the vehicle is moving,
you will be out of posit ion . Always adjust
the driver's or front passenger seat when
the vehicle is not moving .
- Be careful when adjusting the seat
height. Check to see that no one is in the
way, or serious injury could result!
- Because the seats can be elect rically ad­
jus ted wi th the ign it ion key removed,
never leave children unattended in the
vehicle. Unsupervised use of th e electric
seat adj ustments may cause serious in­
jury .

A WARNING

sudden braking or accident, front pas­
sengers must never ride in a moving ve­
hicle with the seatback recl ined . Safety
belts and the airbag system only offer

is upright and the safe ty be lts are prop­
erly posit ioned on the body . The more

the seatback is reclined, the greater the
risk of persona l injury from an incorrect
seating position and improperly posi­
tioned safety belts!
Lumbar support
Applies to vehicles: with lumbar support
T he lumbar support can be adju sted to fit the
natural curvature of the occupant 's spine .

Head restraints
Adjusting head restraints, front seats
The head restraints must be adjusted proper­
ly to provide protection .

The head restraints on the front seats can be
adjusted to prov ide safe support to head and
neck at the optimum he ight. When optimally
adjusted, the top of the restra int should be
leve l with the top of the head

Luggage compartment
Pass-through with Ski Bag
Using the pass-through and the removable
ski bag, you can transport long objects (e.g.
skis) neatly and without damaging the interi­
or.

A WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can cause an accident
and personal injury.
- Never carry any beverage containers with
hot liquids, such as hot coffee or hot tea,
in the vehicle while it is moving. In case
of an acc ident, sudden braking or other
veh icle movement , hot liquid could spill,
causing scalding burns. Spilled hot liquid
can also cause an accident and personal
injury .
- Use only soft cups in the cupholder. Hard
cups and glasses can cause injury in an
accident.
- Never use the cupholder or adapter as an
ashtray -risk of fire .
(D Note
Only drink containers with lids should be
carried in the cupholder. Liquid could spill
out and damage you r vehicles electronic
equipment or stain the upholstery, etc.

The cigarette lighter or socket only work with
the ignition on.
Using the cig arett e lig hter
• Slide the cover open to reach the cigarette
ligh ter.
• Push the knob¢

• Wait until the cigarette lighte r knob pops
out.
• Remove the cigarette lighter immediately
and use it.
• Re insert cigarette lighter into the socket af­
ter use.
Conn ect ing an appli ance
• Slide the cover open to reach the cigarette
lighter.
• Remove cigarette lighter .
... Plug in appliance to be used.
The socket of the cigarette lighter may be
used for 12-volt appliances with maximum
consumption of up to 100 watts, such as a
flash light, small vacuum cleaner, etc.
Before you purchase any accessories, always
read and follow the information in
¢ page 243, Additional accessories and parts
replacement.
A WARNING
-Improper use of the cigarette lighter can
cause serious injury or start a fire.
- Be careful when using the cigarette Light­
er. If you do not pay attention to what
you are doing when you are using the cig­ a rette lighter you can burn yourself.
(D Note
- To avoid damaging the socket, only use
plugs that fit proper ly.
- Only use the cigarette lighter socket as a
power source for electr ical accessories
for short durations. Use the sockets in
the vehicle when a power source is need­
ed for longer durat ions .
(i} Tips
- When the eng ine is off and accessories
are st ill plugged in and are on, the vehi­
cle battery can still be d rained.
- The vehicle battery must not be charged
with a standard small charger that plugs
into the cigarette lighter or outlet.
Outlet
The outlet in the front center console may be
used for 12-volt appliances .

The out let may be used for 12-volt appliances
with maximum consumpt ion of up to 100
watts, such as a flash light, sma ll vacu um
cleaner, etc.

Before you purchase any accessories, always
read and follow the information in

A WARNING
The outlet plus any appliances plugged in­
to it remain functional even if the ignition
is switched off or the ignition key is re­
moved. Never leave children inside the ve­
hicle without supervision.

To avo id damag ing the socket, only use
plugs that fit properly.
@ Tips
When the engine is off and accessories are still plugged in and are on, the vehicle bat­
tery can still be dra ined.
Storage
General
A WARNING
- Always remove objects from the instru­
ment panel. Any items not put away
cou ld slide around inside the vehicle
wh ile driving or when accelerating or
when applying the brakes or when driv­ ing around a corner.
-
- When you are driving make sure that
anything you may have placed in the cen­
ter console or other storage locations cannot fall out into the footwells . In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.

The air conditioning automatically maintains the selected temperature in the vehicleinterior

We recommend the following sett ing :
• Rotate the knob

Using the previously recommended setting is
the quickest way to achieve a comfortable cli ­
mate in the vehicle . Th is setting should there­
fore only be changed when persona l comfort
l eve ls o r certain circumstances requ ire it .
The climate controls are a combination of au ­
tomatic heating and ventilation systems and a
cooling system which dehum idifies and coo ls
the air inside the vehicle .
The climate controls automatically maintain a temperature once it has been set. The tem­pe rat ure of the air from the v ents, fan speed
(air vo lume) and ai r distribu tion are also auto­
mat ica lly adjusted . The system a lso takes into
account strong sunshine so that manua l ad ­
justment is not necessary . So in almost all
cases,
a utomatic mode offers the best cond i­
tions for the comfort of the occupants at all
times of the year

Plea se not e:
In cooling mode, relative humidity in the inte­
rior is reduced . This prevents the w indows
from fogg ing up .
When relative hum idity and temperatures
outside are high,
condensate can drip from
the a ir cond ition ing evaporator and form a
poo l of water under the veh icle. This is normal
and not an ind ication of a leak!
When outside temperatures are low, the fan
does not switch to a higher speed until the coolant has reached an adequate tempera ­
tu re , with the exception of the defrost set­
t ing.
When accelerating at wide-open throttle, the
air condit ioning compressor is temporar ily
switched off to maintain full engine power.
In order to ensure engine cooling under ex­
treme engine loads, the compressor is switch­
ed off if coolant temperatures cl imb too high .
Funct ions are set by turn ing the rotary knob
or switched o n and off by tapping the buttons.

Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter (particle filter) ensures
that contaminants in the outs ide a ir (such as
dust or pollen) are greatly reduced or stop­ ped . T he air is also f iltered in recircu lation
mode .
The pollutant filter element must be changed
according to the intervals specified in the
maintenance schedule so that the air condi ­
tioning system's performance is not adversely
affected.
If the filter's effect iveness is weakened by
d riving the vehicle in areas with heavily pollut ­
ed outside air, the filt er element should also
be cha nged in between the listed services.

For safety reasons, i t is impo rtant t hat all
w indows are free o f ice, snow, and conden­
sa tion . Only then is good visib ility ensured .
Please familiarize yourse lf wit h the co rrect
operation of the air conditioning and how
to de humid ify/defrost the windows.

- If you suspect that the climate controls
have been damaged, switch the system
off to avoid damaging it, and have it in­
spected by an authorized Audi dealer.
-Audi cl imate control system repairs re­
quire special expertise and the proper
tools. You should contact an author ized
Audi dea ler in the event of malfunct ions.
(D Tips
- To avoid adversely affecting heat ing and
cooling performance and to prevent c on­
de nsation on the w indows, the air i ntake
in front of the wi ndshield must be free of
ice, s now, and leaves.
- T he a ir com ing from the ven ts and circu­
lat ing t hrough the e ntire interio r is ex­
tra cted throug h the o utlet s lots in the
side p ane ls in the lugg age comp artmen t.
Mak e sure th at the ou tlet slots are no t
covered by clothing, e tc.
- C limate cont ro l wor ks mos t effectively if
t he win dows a re closed. Howeve r, if the
interio r of a par ked veh icle is ext reme ly
hot from the sun's rays, briefly opening
the windows can speed up the cooling
process.

If the difference be tween the desi red tem­
perature set by yo u and the vehicle's inte ri­
or temperature is too g reat, the fan speed
will change a utomat ica lly. This is done so
that the desired temperature setting is
reached as qu ickly as possible.
- In setting
-0, air flows only to the footwel l,
vents ® are ope n.
- In setting~' air flows on ly to the wi ndows
and the footwell , vents @, @ and ® are
open.
There are additional comb inations (through
intermediate settings) available to adjust a ir
distribution as needed.
(D Tips
If the climate controls are running in cool­
i ng mode, air should flow mainly from
vents @and @. To achieve sufficient cool­
i ng, you should never close thes e vents
complete ly.

Defrost ~
The windshield and side windows ore defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as
possible .
• To turn on the defogger/defroster, press the
~ button ¢page 75, fig . 87 .
• To turn the defogger/defroster off, press the
~ button again, o r the IAUTOI button.
Temperature is controlled automatically . The
maximum amount of a ir flows mainly from

Automatic opera tion ens ures constant tem­
perat ures in the inter ior and dehum idifies the
a ir i nside the vehicle . Air temperature, vol ­
ume, and distribution are controlled automat­
ica lly to reach or maintain the desired interio r
temperature as quickly as possib le. Fluct ua­
tions in exterior temperature and the effects
of temperature from the position of the sun
are compensated for automatica lly.
Manual air recirculation mode~
The recirculation mode prevents polluted out­
side air from entering the vehicle interior.

In recirc ulation mode, air is drawn from t he
vehicle interior, filtered, and recircula ted . We
recommend that you se lect rec irculat ion

tions:
When driving thro ugh a tunnel or in a traff ic
jam so that exhaust fumes and odors canno t
enter the vehicle interior.
A WARNING
You sho uld not use the recirculation mode
for an extended period s ince no fresh air is
drawn in, and with the air co ndit ioning
switched off the windows can fog up - this
i nc reases the r isk of an accident!
A/C operation ~

@ Tips
If the L ED in the sw itch stays on a fter A/C
operation has been switched off( = sw itch ­
ing the A/C off), there is a fault in an air
conditioning component. P lease cons ult
an authorized Audi dealer when there is an
operating problem.
Using the climate controls economically
E conomical use of the climate controls helps
to save fuel.
When climate control is wo rking in cooling
mode, engine performance is reduced and
fuel consumpt ion is affected. To keep the time
the air cond ition ing is on as short as poss ible,
