The turn signals will flash briefly whenever
you lock or unlock the vehicle. Also, the interi­
or light will come on or go
off whenever you
open or clo se the driver 's door .
The transmitter and battery are located in the head of the remote control. The r eceiver is lo­
cated inside the vehicle. The maximum effec­
tive range depends on several things. Remem­
ber, if the ba ttery is weak, the effec tive range
decreases .
T he remote-control key contains a fold-o ut
key that you can use to manu ally lock or un­
lock the vehicle and to start the engine .
If you need to replace the remote contro l, or if
you need to have it repaired, you must see
your author iz ed Audi dealer. Only then can
you use the key again.

-The remote control key is automatica lly
deactivated when the ignition is switch­
ed on .

-The operation of the remote control key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmitters in the v icin ity of
the veh icle work ing in the same frequen­
cy range (e.g. a ce ll phone, radio equip­
ment) .
- In order to make sure the locking func­
tion is working, you shou ld always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
proper ly locked.
- Do n ot use t he remo te control if you are
i nside the car, otherwise yo u may unin­
tentiona lly lock the ve hicle, and then you
would set
off the anti-theft ala rm when
you try to start the engine or open a
door. In case this happens anyhow, push
the un lock button

- Use the panic funct ion only if you are in
an emergency situation .

Resetting the remote control
T he remote control must be reset if the vehi­
cle does not unlock .
.,. Press the unlock 0 button on the remote
control.
.,. Unlock or lock the ve hicle once at the door
lock using the stem of the remote control
key.
The synchronization process must not take longer than 30 seco nds .
Operating locks with the key
To lock and unlock the vehicle from the ou t­
side, turn the key in the lock of the driver's
door .

inside
The vehicle can be locked or unlocked from
the inside using the power locking switch.

If you lock the vehicle using the
power lock­
ing switch,
please note the fo llowing:
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside (increased security, for ex ­
amp le when you are stopped at a red light).
- You can unlock and open the doors from the
inside by pulling on the door handle .
- If the driver 's door is opened (after you have
l ocked the vehicle from the inside using the
power locking switch), the door will remain
unlocked to prevent you from locking your­
self out of your vehicle. After you close the door, you have to lock the driver 's door
again.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat ­
ed, the doors automatically unlock.
A WARNING
-- If you use the power locking switch with
the doors closed, remember that all the
veh icle doors will lock.
- Locking doors from the inside can help
prevent inadvertent door opening during
an accident and can also prevent unwant­
ed entry from the outside. Locked doors
can, howeve r, delay assistance to vehicle
occ upa nts and hold up rescue efforts
from the outside in an accident or other
emergency .
Emergency locking
If the power locking system fails (power fail­
ure), you will need to lock the passenger door
separately.

For this purpose, a mechanical locking device
is provided on the end pane l of the passenger
door (only visible when the door is open).

far as it can go.

After you close the door you will not no longer be ab le to open it from the outside.
You can open it from the ins ide, however, by
pu lling on the door latch

-After closing the rear lid, always pull up
on it to make sure that it is properly
closed . Otherw ise it could open sudden ly
when the veh icle is mov ing .
- To help prevent po isonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, al­
ways keep the rear lid closed while dr iv­
ing. Never transport objects larger than

those which fit completely into the lug­
gage area, because then the rear lid can­not be fully closed .
- Never leave your vehicle unattended es­
pecially with the rear lid left open. A
child could crawl into the car through the
luggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becoming trapped and unable to
get out. To reduce the risk of personal in­
jury, never let children play in or around
your veh icle. Always keep the rear lid as
well as the vehicle doors closed when not
in use.

- If the rear lid is open o r not properly
locked when the ig nition is turned on,
t he door and rear lid warning appears in
the instrument cl uster display .
- If the rear lid on a locked veh icle is un­
locked with the midd le button
cs on the
remote key, the rear lid is automatica lly
locked again immediate ly after closing.
Th is is indicated by the turn signals
blinking.

If the rear lid cannot be opened, an emergen­
cy release is provided .

Never operate the emergency release for
the trunk lid while the vehicle is moving .
Anti-theft alarm
system
The anti-theft alarm triggers an alarm if any­
one attempts to break into the vehicle .

The anti-theft alarm system triggers an audi­
ble a larm and turns on the emergency flasher
if an unauthorized interference with the vehi­
cle is sensed by the system.
How is the anti-theft alarm system
switched on?
The anti-theft alarm system is switched on
when you lock the driver's door manua lly us­
ing the fold-out key, or when you use the re­
mote control. The system is activated approx i­
mately 30 seconds after the vehicle is locked .
The indicator light
¢fig. 39 starts flashing
rapidly for 30 seconds and then blinks slowly.
How is the anti-theft alarm system
switched off?
The anti-theft alarm system is switched off
only when you use the remote control to un­
lock your vehicle.
If you do not open a door
within 30 seconds after you have unlocked
with the remote control, the veh icle wi ll lock
itse lf again a utomatically.
If you lock just the driver's door using your
key, the front passenger's door and the rear
lid remain locked.
When will the anti theft alarm system be
triggered?
When the vehicle is locked, the alarm system
monitors and protects the following parts of
the vehicle:

- engine compartment
-lu ggage compar tment
- doors
- ignition
When the system is activated, the alarm will
be triggered if one of the doors, the engine
h ood or the rear lid are opened, or if the ign i­
tion is turned on.
The anti-theft alarm system wi ll also go off
when the battery is disconnected.
You can a lso trigger the alarm by pressing the
PANIC button on your remote-control key.
This will alert other peop le in case of emer­
gency. Press the
PANIC button again to turn
off the alarm .
How is the anti-theft alarm switched off
when triggered?
The alarm system is switched off when you
unlock the vehicle using the remote-control
key or when the ignition is sw itched on . The
a larm w ill also switch itse lf off when it comes
to the end of its cycle.
Emergency flasher
The emergency flasher will blink briefly when
the doors, engine hood and rear lid are prop­
erly closed .
If the emergency flashers do not blink, check
the doors, engine hood and rear lid to make
sure they are properly closed. If you close a
door, the hood or the rear lid with the ant i­
theft alarm switched on, the emergency flash­
e rs will bli nk only after you have closed the
door or lid .
@ Tips
-For the anti-theft alarm system to func­
tion properly, make sure all vehicle doors
and windows are closed before leaving
the vehicle .
- When you open the vehicle from the
driver's door using the key, the centra l
l ocking switch will work only after you
have switched on the ignition.

If the respective switch is pushed or pulled

vehicle, especially with access to vehicle
keys . Unsupervised use of the keys can
result in starting of t he engine and use
of vehicle systems such as power win­
dows , etc. which cou ld result in serio us

- Remember -you can still open or close
the power w indows for about ten m i­
nu te s after the ignition is sw itche d off.
Only whe n eit her of the fron t doo rs a re
opened are the power windows sw itched
off.
- B e care ful when closing the windows .
C heck to see that no one is in the way, or
serious injury could result!
- Always remove the ignition key whenever
yo u leave yo ur vehicle.
- If you lock you r vehicle from the ou ts ide,
no one, especially children, sho uld re­
main in the vehicle .
- Do not stick any thing on the windows o r
the windshie ld that may interfere with
the driver 's fie ld of vision .
(!} Tips
-When the doors a re opened, the w in ­
dows are a utomat ically lowered 10 mm.
- The w indows can still be ope ned and
closed for abou t ten m in utes after the
i gnition has been turned off. The power
win dows are not sh ut off until one of the
front doors is opened.
Convenience close/open feature
You can close or open the windows from out­
side when you lock or unlock your car with the
key.

Reactivating the system after battery
disconnection
Reactivating the convenience close/open fea­
ture
If the vehicle battery is disconnec ted and then
reconnected, the automat ic clos ing and open­
i ng f unct ion w ill not work u nti l i t is reac tiva t­
ed. To re activ ate t his featu re, perform t he fo l­
l owing steps:

Convertible top
General information
The comprehensively engineered design of the
fabric convertible top allows it to be operated
quickly and simply. When open, the converti­ ble top is stowed completely in a tonneau pro­
vided specifically for this purpose.
In normal operating conditions, the converti­
ble top is wind- and waterproof. Under certain
circumstances, a small quantity of droplets
might form, but only in extremely inclement
weather, e.g. torrential or continuous heavy
rain. This is normal and not a cause for con­
cern.

Convertible top care
to maintain the converti­
ble top's attractive appearance and to keep it
wind- and waterproof. Please follow these in­
structions as well:
- Stow and open the convertible top only
when it is clean. When the top is folded
away, sharp-edged contaminants can build
up as silt and cause wear spots on the rear
window, which may damage the convertible
top over time. Of course, ice and snow
should also be removed before opening the
convertible top .
- Under no circumstances should you use
sharp-edged or abrasive objects to remove
ice and snow. Use a commercial ice scraper
to remove ice from of the rear window.
- The convertible top should be opened only if
it is completely d ry. If the convertible top is
opened and then stored wet, unattractive
indentations may develop. In addition, over
time, mold and mildew stains can develop.
- Do not leave the convertible top open for
several weeks at a time; instead, open and
close it from time to time so that the fabric
does not discolor where it folds, and to pre­
vent creases from forming. This is especially
important if it happens to be stowed while
still damp on occasion . -
Because the fabric becomes less flexible
when temperatures drops below zero, we
recommend not operating the convertible
top below O°C.
A WARNING
-
- When operating the convertible top,
make sure that any external factors (e .g.
the wind) do not impair its function or
endanger other drivers.
- Never drive while the convertible top is
not properly secured . Otherwise, it may
be pulled open by the wind. This can
cause injuries and damage to the vehicle
- danger of an accident!
- When opening and closing the converti-
ble top make sure to keep yourself and
others clear of all moving parts. Risk of
injury!

- Always make sure that there is enough
clearance above the vehicle so that the
convertible top is not damaged when
opening and closing.
- Do not place any objects in the tonneau
to avoid damage when opening the con­
vertible top .
@ Tips
-The convertible top should be operated
only with the ignition switched on.
- When parking the car with the converti­
ble top open, bear in mind that the vehi­
cle's interior is not protected from dam­
age due to unexpected weather condi­
tions, or unauthorized access. It is there­
fore advisable to close the convertible
top before leaving the vehicle. If objects
are left inside the vehicle, they should be
locked in the luggage compartment.

"convenience opening" funct ion . The
convertible top is completely opened by

- The indicator light for the convertible
top goes out as soon as it is cor rectly
latched .
- In orde r not to discharge the battery un­
necessar ily, the top should not be low­
ered or raised several times in succession
w ith the engine not running.
-If the ind icator light for the convertible
top flashes when the switch is actuated,
th ere is a malfunct ion.
Convenience opening and closing of

and closed by turning the key in the driver's
