The LED @ lights up when you press the buttons.
� The LED should flash once when you press one
of the buttons briefly.
� The
LED should flash repeatedly when you
press and hold one of the buttons (convenience
open/close).
� If
the LED does not flash, the battery in the re­
mote control key is flat. In addition, the indica­
tor lamp la will light up and the message Re­
mote control key: please change key battery
will appear. Replace the battery in the remote
control key.
Replacing the battery for the remote control
key
� Press the release catches© ¢Fig. 16 and take
out the emergency key.
� Press the release catches@¢ Fig. 17 on the
battery carrier and at the same time pull the

carrier out of the remote control key in

Used batteries must be disposed of appropri­
ately and must not be discarded with ordinary
household waste.

The new battery must be of the same type as

Locking and unlocking the vehicle by

The vehicle will be locked again automatically if
you do not open one of the doors, the boot lid or
the bonnet within 45 seconds after unlocking the
car. This function prevents the vehicle from re­
maining unlocked if the unlock button is pressed
by mistake.
The system will unlock either all the doors or only
the driver&#39;s door, depending on the settings you
have chosen on the infotainment system

safelock mechanism* is activated: the doors
and windows cannot then be opened from the

Note
- Do not use the remote control key when the
vehicle is out of sight.
- On vehicles with the convenience key* the
selector lever must be in P, otherwise it will
not be possible to lock the vehicle.
Locking and unlocking the vehicle with the
convenience key
Applies to: vehicles with convenience key
The doors and the boot lid can be locked and un­
locked without handling the remote control key.

... Take hold of the door handle. The door will be
unlocked automatically.

vehicle can be locked and unlocked from any
of the doors. The remote control key should be
within a range of about 1.5 metres from the door
handle. It does not matter where you carry the
key, for instance whether it is in your jacket pock­
et or in a briefcase.
The locking function may be affected if you grasp
the door handle while the vehicle is being locked.
Once the doors have been locked, they cannot be
opened again immediately. This will enable you
to check that the doors are properly closed.
The system will unlock either all the doors or only
one of the doors, depending on the settings you
have chosen on the infotainment system
¢page 31.

Please note the following points if the vehicle
is left parked for long periods:
- To save electrical power, the proximity sen­
sors are switched off after a few days. You
will then need to pull the door handle once
to unlock the vehicle, and a second time to
open it.
- To prevent the vehicle battery from becom­
ing discharged and thus maintain the vehi­
cle&#39;s starting ability for as long as possible,
the power management system will gradu­
ally switch off convenience functions that
are not required. In this case you may not
be able to unlock the vehicle with this con­
venience function.

Please note the following when you use the cen­
tral locking switch to lock your vehicle:
- The doors and the boot lid cannot be opened
from the outside (for safety reasons, when
stopped at traffic lights, etc.).
- The LED in the central locking switch lights up
when all of the doors are closed and locked.
- You can open the doors individually from the
inside by pulling the inside door handle.
- In the event of an accident in which the airbags
inflate, doors locked from the inside will be au­
tomatically unlocked to facilitate access and as­
sistance.
A WARNING
- The central locking switch is still operative
when the ignition is switched off and will
automatically lock the entire vehicle when
the �
button is pressed.
- The central locking switch inside the vehicle
is not operative if you lock the vehicle from
the outside.
- Locked doors could delay assistance in an
emergency, potentially putting lives at risk.
Do not leave anyone (especially children) in
the vehicle.

The doors and the boot lid are locked auto­
matically when the vehicle reaches a speed of

Adjusting the settings for the central
locking system
You can use the infotainment system to select
which doors are unlocked by the central Locking
system.
� Select the following on the infotainment sys­
tem: I MENU
I button >Car> left control button
> Vehicle settings.
Unlock doors -You can select whether all doors
or only the driver&#39;s door are unlocked by the cen­
tral locking system. The boot lid will also be un­
locked if you select all. If you select driver on
vehicles with convenience key*, only one door will
be unlocked (whichever door you grip by the han­
dle).
When the driver setting is activated, you can still
unlock all the doors and the boot lid by pressing
the �
button on the remote control key twice.
Fold mirrors* -If you select on, the exterior mir­
rors will be folded in automatically when you
press the�
button on the remote control key or
touch the sensor* on the door handle.
Lock when driving 1

-Select on if you want the
vehicle to be locked automatically when you are
driving. This will lock all the doors and the boot
lid.
Confirmation tone1

-If you select on, an acous­
tic signal will be given when you lock the vehicle.

Locking the passenger&#39;s door with the
emergency key
The mechanical locking device is located on the
end face of the passenger&#39;s door. It is only visible
when the door is open.
... Remove the emergency key c::>page 28.
... Pull the cap out of the opening c::>Fig. 22 .
... Insert the key in the slot inside and turn it as
far as the stop to the right (if the door is on the
right* side) or to the left (if the door is on the
left side).

the passenger&#39;s door has been closed it can
no longer be opened from the outside. The door
can be opened from the inside by pulling the
door handle.
A WARNING

Anti-theft alarm system
Applies to: vehicles with anti-theft alarm system

If the anti-theft alarm system senses interfer­
ence with the vehicle it triggers an audible and
visible alarm. The anti-theft alarm system is acti­
vated when you lock the vehicle in the usual way
and is switched off again when you unlock the ve­
hicle.
The anti-theft alarm system comprises the fol­
lowing components:
Anti-theft alarm
The alarm is triggered if the bonnet, the boot lid
or any of the doors are forced open. The alarm
system is armed whenever the vehicle is locked .
If you unlock the vehicle by turning the key in the
driver&#39;s door lock, you should switch on the igni­
tion within 15 seconds to prevent the alarm from
being triggered. On some export versions, the ..,.

is triggered immediately when you open a
door.
To deactivate the alarm, switch on the ignition or
press the[@] button on the remote control key.
Int erior monitor and tow-away prot ection
When the vehicle is locked, the alarm will be trig­
gered if movements are detected in the interior
(e.g. by animals) or if the vehicle&#39;s inclination is
changed (e.g. during transport). You can prevent
the alarm from being triggered accidentally by
switching off the interior monitor and/or tow­
away protection. To do so, proceed as follows:
� Press the� button¢ Fig. 23. The LED in the
button will light up.
� If you now lock the vehicle, the interior monitor
and tow-away protection will remain deactiva­
ted until the vehicle is unlocked again.

The doors can no longer be opened from the in­
side. This makes it more difficult to break into
the vehicle ¢ A . The message Be aware of door
sa felock. See owner&#39;s manual appears on the in­
fotainment display when you switch off the igni­
tion as a reminder that the safelock mechanism*
will be activated. You can switch off the safelock
mechanism* by using one of the following op­
tions:
� Press the� button on the remote control key a
second time within 2 seconds. Or:
� Touch
the sensor on the door handle a second
time within 2 seconds (applies to vehicles with
convenience key). Or:
� Turn the emergency key in the door lock to the
lock position a second time within 2 seconds.
The alarm is triggered if you switch off the safe­
lock mechanism* and a door handle is then oper­
ated. To deactivate the alarm, switch on the igni­
tion or press the� button on the remote control
key.

If you switch off the safe lock mechanism*,
the interior monitor and tow-away protection
are automatically disabled, and vice versa.
This means that your vehicle is no longer
completely protected against theft.
The interior monitor and tow-away protection
will only function as intended if the windows
are closed.
Boot lid

� To open the boot lid, press the� button on
the remote control key for at least one second.

� Pull the boot lid up.
Closing boot lid
� Pull down the boot lid and let it drop into the
latch ¢ A .
A WARNING
- After closing the boot lid, always check that
the catch has engaged properly. The boot lid
could otherwise open suddenly when the ve­
hicle is moving -this could result in an acci-
dent. ..,.

- The boot lid must always be completely
closed when the vehicle is moving; other­
wise toxic exhaust fumes can be drawn into
the interior.
@ Note
When the vehicle is locked, you can unlock
the boot lid separately by pressing the�
button on the remote control key. The boot
lid will lock automatically when you close it
again.
Releasing the boot lid manually
The boot lid can be released manually from the
inside.

� Pull the catch on the lid in the direction indica­

� Take the handle out of its retainer.
� Pull the handle in the direction indicated by the

A WARNING
The manual release lever for the boot lid must
NOT be pulled while the vehicle is moving.

The driver can operate all the electric windows.

All electric windows have two-stage switches:

the switch briefly to the second stop:
the window will automatically open/close all
the way. The window will stop moving immedi­
ately if the switch is operated again.
� To set an intermediate position, press/pull the
switch to the first position until the window has
reached the desired position.
Switches for electric windows

A WARNING
- Always take the key with you when leaving
the vehicle -even if you only intend to be
gone for a short time. This is especially im­
portant if children are left in the car. They
might otherwise be able to start the engine
or use power-operated equipment such as
the electric windows -this could lead to in­
juries. The window switches are only deacti­
vated when the driver&#39;s door or the passeng­
er&#39;s door is opened.
- Always be careful when closing the win­
dows. Careless use of the electric windows
can cause severe injuries.
- When locking the vehicle from the outside,
make sure that nobody is inside the vehicle,

- The windows can be operated for about ten
minutes after the ignition has been switch­
ed off. The window switches are only deacti­
vated when the driver&#39;s door or the passeng­
er&#39;s door is opened.
- When the doors are opened, or while the
soft top is being opened or closed, the win­
dows are automatically opened about
10mm.
Convenience open/close function
All the windows can be opened or closed at the
same time.
Convenience open function
&#34;&#34; Press and hold the� button on the remote
control key until all the windows have reached
the desired position.
Convenience close function
&#34;&#34; Press and hold the� button on the remote con-
trol key until all windows are closed ¢ ,& , or
Convenience close function with convenience
key*
&#34;&#34; Touch and keep your hand in contact with the
sensor* on the door handle until all the win­
dows and the soft top* are closed. Do not rest
your hand on the door handle while this is hap­
pening.
Adjusting settings for convenience open
function via infotainment system
&#34;&#34; Select the following on the infotainment sys­
tem: I MENU
I button
>Car> left control button
> Vehicle settings.
If you wish to use the convenience open function
for the windows, set Long press to open win­
dows to on. Doors
and windows
A WARNING
- Take care when closing the windows and the
soft top*. Careless or uncontrolled use can
cause injuries.
- For safety reasons, you should only use the
remote control key to open and close the
windows and soft top* when you are at least
2 metres away from the vehicle. To avoid in­
juries, always keep an eye on the windows
and the soft top* when pressing the I:@ but­
ton to close them. The windows and soft top
stop moving as soon as the I:@ button is re­
leased.
What to do after a malfunction
You can reactivate the one-touch open and close
function if it fails to operate.
&#34;&#34; Pull and hold the electric window switch until
the window is fully closed.
&#34;&#34; Release the switch and then pull it again for at
least one second.
Garage door opener
(Homelink)
Description
Applies to: vehicles with garage door opener (Homelink)

The garage door opener (Homelink) allows you
to activate garage doors, security systems, home
or office lighting and other electric devices by
means of control buttons inside your car. It com­
prises three buttons, integrated in the operating
unit above the interior mirror in the headliner, �

which perform the functions of up to three hand­
held transmitters.
To operate the desired systems with the garage
door opener, you first need to program the but­
tons in the operating unit.
A WARNING
When you are operating or programming the
garage door opener, make sure that no per­
sons or objects are close to the devices receiv­
ing the transmitter signals. Otherwise, per­
sons might be injured or other damage
caused by moving parts.

- For security reasons we recommend that
you delete the programming of the buttons
prior to selling your vehicle.

Controls
Applies to: vehicles with garage door opener (Homelink)

Important: The button in the operating unit must
be programmed <=> page 36 and the vehicle
must be within range of the garage door or other
system you wish to operate.
.. To open the garage door, press the button. The
green LED CD will light up or flash.
.. To close the garage door, press the button
again.

When opening/closing the garage door, do
not keep the button pressed for more than
36 20
seconds; otherwise the garage door open­
er will switch to the programming mode.
Programming the transmitter
Applies to: vehicles with garage door opener (Homelink)

Programming a button: Stage 1 (at the
operating unit)
1. Switch on the ignition.
2. Press
and hold down the two outer buttons
on the operating unit<=> page 36, Fig. 28 until
the yellow LED@ goes out and the green
LED CD flashes. This procedure will delete the
standard factory settings and does not need
to be repeated when programming the other
buttons.
3. Briefly
press the particular button in the op­
erating unit that you would like to program.
4. Wait until the yellow LED@flashes . The
programming mode is then activated for 5
minutes.
5. Step in front of your vehicle with the original
hand-held transmitter for the system you
wish to assign to the button in the operating
unit.
Programming a button: Stage 2 (at the
radiator grille)
6. Hold
the hand-held transmitter in front of
your car&#39;s radiator grille<=> Fig. 29.
7. Now press and hold the button on the hand­
held transmitter until the turn signals on
your vehicle start to flash. This can take up to
30 seconds.
8. If the hazard lights flash three times, the
button has been programmed successfully. If
the hazard lights flash once only, the

operation has failed or the five
minute programming period has expired. Re­
peat the programming procedure starting
with the 3rd step, or try holding the trans­
mitter nearer or further away from the radia­
tor grille.
9. If the garage door or other system still fails
to be activated using the buttons in the oper­
ating unit after programming is completed,
it is possible that the system might be work­
ing with a rolling code instead of the normal
fixed security code. If this is the case, a roll­
ing code progr amming is required in addi­
tion to the steps described above
¢page 37.
Follow the instructions above to program the
other two buttons. Start with the 3rd step.
Erasing the button programming
Programmed buttons can only be erased all at
once; it is not possible to erase them individually.
Reprogram the buttons if necessary.
� Switch on the ignition.
� Press and hold down the two outer buttons on
the operating unit until the yellow LED @
goes
out and the green LED CD
flashes.
Reprogramming the buttons
� Switch on the ignition.
� To reprogram an individual button, press and
hold the desired button until the green LED CD
goes out and the yellow LED @
starts to flash
(after about 20 seconds). Then release the but­
ton immediately. The programming mode is
then activated for S minutes.
� Continue with the 5th step.
ij) Note
- The required distance between the hand­
held transmitter and the Homelink module
inside the radiator grille¢ Fig. 29 depends
on the system you are programming.
- With some types of systems, you may need
to briefly release the button during pro­
gramming and then press it again. When
programming a new device, keep the button
pressed for at least 15 seconds before try- Doors

ing again with the transmitter in a different
position. Watch out for your vehicle&#39;s haz­
ard warning lights while doing so.
Rolling code programming
Applies to: vehicles with garage door opener (Homelink)
Some devices require rolling code programming.
Identifying a rolling code
� Press a programmed button in the operating
unit again and hold it down.
� Watch the green LED CD
¢ page 36, Fig. 28. If
the green LED starts flashing rapidly, this indi­
cates that the system you wish to operate, such
as a garage door, is equipped with a rolling
code.
� Program the rolling code as follows:
Activating a system&#39;s drive unit
� Locate
the programming button on the sys­
tem&#39;s drive unit. The exact location and colour
of the button may vary depending on the type
of system.
� Press
the programming button on the system&#39;s
drive unit (this will normally cause an indicator
lamp on the unit to light up). You now have
about 30 seconds to start and complete pro­
gramming of the button in the operating unit.
Programming the button in the operating
unit
� Press the previously programmed button in the
operating unit for 2 seconds.
� Press the button for 2 seconds again to com­
plete rolling code programming.
� For some systems, the button may have to be
pressed a third time to complete the program­
ming sequence.
After programming, the system should recognise
the signal and respond when the button in the
operating unit is pressed. Now the other control
buttons can be programmed as required.

- Having a second person assist you makes
programming of the rolling code easier and

mation in the operating instructions of the
system you wish to operate.
