Forward-facing Child Restraint System
A forward-facing Child Restraint Sys‐
tem provides restraint for the child’s body with a harness. Keep children in a
forward-facing Child Restraint System
with a harness until they reach the top height or weight limit allowed by your
Child Restraint System’s manufacturer.
Once your child outgrows the forward-
facing Child Restraint System, your child is ready for a booster seat.
Booster seats
A booster seat is a Child Restraint Sys‐
tem designed to improve the fit of the
vehicle’s seat belt system. A booster seat positions the seat belt so that it
fits properly over the stronger parts of
your child’s body. Keep your children in booster seats until they are big enough
to fit in a seat belt properly.
For a seat belt to fit properly, the lap
belt must lie comfortable across the upper thighs, not the stomach. The
shoulder belt should lie comfortable
across the shoulder and chest and not across the neck or face. Children under
age 13 must always be properly re‐
strained to minimize the risk of injury in an accident, sudden stop or sudden
maneuver.
Installing a Child Restraint
System (CRS)
WARNING
Before installing your Child RestraintSystem always:Read and follow the instructionsprovided by the manufacturer of theChild Restraint System.

Failure to follow all warnings and in‐structions could increase the risk ofa SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH if an ac‐cident occurs.
WARNING
If the vehicle headrest preventsproper installation of a Child Re‐straint System, the headrest of therespective seating position shall bereadjusted or entirely removed.
After selecting a proper Child Restraint
System for your child and checking that the Child Restraint System fits properly
on the seating position, there are three
general steps for a proper installation: •
Properly secure the Child RestraintSystem to the vehicle. All Child Re‐
straint Systems must be secured to
the vehicle with the lap belt or lap
part of a lap/shoulder belt or with the
ISOFIX top-tether and/or ISOFIX an‐
chorage and/or with the support leg.

•Make sure the Child Restraint Systemis firmly secured. After installing a
Child Restraint System to the vehicle, push and pull the seat forward and
from side-to-side to verify that it is
securely attached to the seat. A Child
Restraint System secured with a seat
belt should be installed as firmly as possible. However, some side-to-side
movement can be expected.
When installing a Child Restraint Sys‐
tem, adjust the vehicle seat and seat‐
back (up and down, forward and rear‐
ward) so that your child fits in the Child Restraint System in a comforta‐
ble manner.

Secure the child in the Child RestraintSystem. Make sure the child is prop‐
erly strapped in the Child Restraint
System according to the Child Re‐ straint System manufacturer’s in‐
structions.
CAUTION
A Child Restraint System in a closedvehicle can become very hot. To pre‐vent burns, check the seating sur‐face and buckles before placing yourchild in the Child Restraint System.
ISOFIX anchorage and top-
tether anchorage (ISOFIX
anchorage system) for children
The ISOFIX system holds a Child Re‐ straint System during driving and in an
accident. This system is designed to
make installation of the Child Restraint System easier and reduce the possibili‐
ty of improperly installing your Child
Restraint System. The ISOFIX system uses anchors in the vehicle and attach‐
ments on the Child Restraint System.
The ISOFIX system eliminates the need to use seat belts to secure the Child
Restraint System to the rear seats.
ISOFIX anchorages are metal bars built
into the vehicle. There are two lower anchors for each ISOFIX seating posi‐
tion that will accommodate a Child Re‐
straint System with lower attach‐ ments.
To use the ISOFIX system in your vehi‐
cle, you must have a Child Restraint
System with ISOFIX attachments.
The Child Restraint System manufac‐ turer will provide you with instructions
on how to use the Child Restraint Sys‐
tem with its attachments for the ISO‐ FIX anchorages.
ISOFIX anchorages have been provided
in the left and right outboard rear seat‐
ing positions. Their locations are shown in the illustration.
WARNING
Do not attempt to install a Child Re‐straint System using ISOFIX ancho‐rages in the rear center seating po‐sition. There are no ISOFIX anchorag‐es provided for this seat. Using theoutboard seat anchorages, for theCRS installation on the rear centerseating position, can damage the an‐chorages.

Securing a Child Restraint System
with a lap/shoulder belt
When not using the ISOFIX system, allChild Restraint Systems must be se‐
cured to a rear seat with the lap part of
a lap/shoulder belt.
Installing a Child Restraint System witha lap/shoulder belt
To install a Child Restraint System on
the rear seats, do the following: 1. Place the Child Restraint System on
a rear seat and route the lap/shoul‐
der belt around or through the
Child Restraint System, following
the Child Restraint System manu‐
facturer’s instructions.
Make sure the seat belt webbing is not twisted.

WARNING
•To avoid severe personal injury ordeath caused by deploying air bagsin a collision, the driver should sitas far back from the steeringwheel air bag as possible (at least250 mm (10 inches) away). Thefront passengers should alwaysmove their seats as far back aspossible and sit back in their seat.
•Air bags inflate instantly in theevent of a collision, and passen‐gers may be injured by the air bagexpansion force if they are not in aproper position.
•Air bag inflation may cause injuriesincluding facial or bodily abrasions,injuries from broken glasses orburns.
Noise and smoke
When the air bags inflate, they make a
loud noise and they leave smoke and
powder in the air inside of the vehicle. This is normal and is a result of the ig‐
nition of the air bag inflator. After the
air bag inflates, you may feel substan‐ tial discomfort in breathing due to the
contact of your chest with both the
seat belt and the air bag, as well as from breathing the smoke and powder.
Open your doors and/or windows assoon as possible after impact in orderto reduce discomfort and prevent pro‐longed exposure to the smoke andpowder.
Though the smoke and powder are non-toxic, they may cause irritation to
the skin (eyes, nose and throat, etc). If
this is the case, wash and rinse with cold water immediately and consult a
doctor if the symptom persists.

When the air bags deploy, the airbag related parts in the steeringwheel and/or instrument paneland/or in both sides of the roof rails

above the front and rear doors arevery hot. To prevent injury, do nottouch the air bag storage area’s in‐ternal components immediately af‐ter an air bag has inflated.Do not install or place any accesso‐ries near air bag deployment areas,such as the instrument panel, win‐dows, pillars, and roof rails.

CAUTION
If the passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch malfunctions, thepassenger’s front air bag OFF indica‐tor will not illuminate (The passeng‐er's front air bag ON indicator comeson and goes off after approximately60 seconds) and the passenger’sfront air bag will inflate in a frontalimpact even if the passenger’s frontair bag ON/OFF switch is set to theOFF position.In this case, have the passenger'sfront air bag ON/OFF switch and theSRS air bag system inspected by aprofessional workshop.Kia recommends to visit an author‐ized Kia dealer/service partner.

The SRSCM continually monitors all SRS components while the ignition switch is
ON to determine if a crash impact is se‐
vere enough to require air bag deploy‐ ment or pre-tensioner seat belt de‐
ployment.
The SRS air bag warning light "

the instrument panel will illuminate for
about 6 seconds after the ignition
switch is turned to the ON position, af‐ ter which the SRS air bag warning light

" should go out.
WARNING
If any of the following conditions oc‐curs, this indicates a malfunction ofthe SRS. In this case, have the sys‐tem inspected by a professionalworkshop. Kia recommends to visitan authorized Kia dealer/servicepartner.

A fully inflated air bag, in combination
with a properly worn seat belt, slows the driver's or the passenger's forward
motion, reducing the risk of head and
chest injury.
After complete inflation, the air bag im‐ mediately starts deflating, enabling the

•If an air bag deploys, there may bea loud noise followed by a finedust released in the vehicle. Theseconditions are normal and are nothazardous - the air bags arepacked in this fine powder. Thedust generated during air bag de‐ployment may cause skin or eyeirritation as well as aggravateasthma for some persons. Alwayswash all exposed skin areas thor‐oughly with cold water and a mildsoap after an accident in which theair bags were deployed.
