Roof carrier
Important safety notes
GWARNING
When you load the roof, the centerofgravity
of the vehicle rises and the driving
characteristics change. If you exceed the
maximumroof load, the driving
characteristics, as well as steering and
braking, will be greatly impaired. There is a
risk of an accident.
Never exceed the maximum roof load and
adjust your driving style.
!Mercedes-Benz recommends that you
only use roof carriers that have been tested
and approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
This helps to prevent damage to the
vehicle.
Position the load on the roof rack in such a
way that the vehicle will not sustain
damage even when it is in motion.

Depending on the vehicle equipment,
ensure that when the roof carrier is
installed you can:
Ropen the panorama roofwith power tilt/
sliding panel fully
Ropen the trunk lid fully
The maximum roof load is 165 lbs((75 kg).
An incorrectly secured roof carrier or roof
load may become detached fromthe vehicle.
You must therefore ensure that you observe
the roof carrier manufacturer's installation
instructions.

XOpen coverscarefully in the direction of
the arrow.
XFold coversupwards.
XOnly secure the roof carrier to the
anchorage points under covers.
XObserve the manufacturer's installation
instructions.
Features
Cup holder
Important safety notes
GWARNING
The cup holder cannot hold a container secure
whilst traveling. If you use a cup holder whilst
traveling, the container may be flung around
and liquid may be spilled. The vehicle
occupants may come into contact with the
liquid and if it is hot, they may be scalded. You
may be distracted from the traffic conditions
and you could lose control of the vehicle.
There is a risk of an accident and injury.
Only use the cup holder when the vehicle is
stationary. Only use the cup holder for
containers of the right size. Always close the
container, particularly if the liquid is hot.
GWARNING
If you do not correctly store objects in the
vehicle interior, they can slip or be flung
around, thus striking vehicle occupants.
There is a risk of injury, especially when
braking or abruptly changing directions.
RAlways store objects so that they cannot be
flung around in these or in similar
situations.
RAlways make sure that objects do not
protrude from stowage compartments,
parcel nets or stowage nets.
RClose lockable stowage compartments
while driving.
RStow and secure objects that are heavy,
hard, pointy, sharp-edged, fragile or too
large in the trunk.
!Only use the cup holders for containers of
the right size and which have lids. The
drinks could otherwise spill.
The stowage compartments in the doors
provide space for bottles:
Rfront: capacity up to 34 fl. oz. (1.0 l)
Rrear: capacity up to 17 fl. oz. (0.5 l)

XTo remove:carefully pull in uppersections
of cup holderon the driver's and front-
passenger sides until they release.
XLift the cup holder upwardsuntil it can
be removed.
XTo install:insert the cup holder into lateral
curved sectionsin the stowage
compartment.Insertthe cup holder so that
the wedge of the upper section of cup
holderfaces forwards.
XPress the cup holder downwards until it
engages on the right and left-hand sides.
Cup holder in the rear seat armrest
!Do not sit on or support your body weight
on the rear seat armrest when it is folded
down, as you could otherwise damage it.
!Close the cup holder before folding the
rear seat armrest up. Otherwise, the cup
holder could be damaged.
XFold down the rear seat armrest.
XTo open:press the front of cup holder
or.
Cup holderorextends automatically.
XTo close:slide cup holderorback
until it engages.
Sun visors
Overview
GWARNING
If the mirror cover of the vanity mirror is folded
up when the vehicle is in motion, you could be
blinded by incident light. There is a risk of an
accident.
Always keep the mirror cover folded down
while driving.

Ashtray
Front ashtray
!The stowage space under the ashtray is
not heat resistant. Before placing lit
cigarettes in the ashtray, make sure that
the ashtray is properly engaged. Otherwise,
the stowage space could be damaged.

XTo open:push the lower section of
cover.
The stowage compartmentopens.
XTo remove the insert:lift insert"
upand out.
XTo re-install the insert:press insert"
into the holder until it engages.
iIf you remove the ashtray insert, you can
use the resulting compartment for
stowage.
Rear-compartment ashtray
XTo open:pull cover"out by its top edge.
XTo remove:pull insertby recessin
the direction of arrow!until it audibly
releases.
XLift insertup and out.
XTo install the insert:place insertfrom
above into the holder and press down until
it engages.
Cigarette lighter
GWARNING
You can burn yourself if you touch the hot
heating element or the socket of the cigarette
lighter.
In addition, flammable materials can ignite if:
Rthe hot cigarette lighter falls
Ra child holds the hot cigarette lighter to
objects, for example

There is a risk of fire and injury.
Always hold the cigarette lighter by the knob.
Always make sure that the cigarette lighter is
out of reach of children. Never leave children
unsupervised in the vehicle.
Your attention must always be focused on the
traffic conditions. Only use the cigarette
lighter when road and traffic conditions
permit.

XTo open:push the lower section of
cover.
The stowage compartment opens.
XPress in cigarette lighter.
Cigarette lighterwill pop out
automatically when the heating element is
red-hot.
12Vsockets
Points to observe before use
XTurn the SmartKey to position1in the
ignitionlock (Ypage 137).
The sockets can be used for accessories with
a maximum draw of 180 W (15 A).
Accessories include such items as lamps or
chargers for mobile phones.
If you use the sockets for long periods when
the engine is switched off, the battery may
discharge.
iAn emergency cut-out ensures that the
on-board voltage does not drop too low. If
the on-board voltage is too low, the power
to the sockets is automatically cut. This
ensures that there is sufficient power to
start the engine.

activate the mbrace service. Make sure that
your system is activated and operational. To

any of the steps mentioned are not carried
out, the system may not be activated.

The mbrace system
To adjust the volume during a call, proceed
as follows:
XPress the or\nbutton on the
multifunction steering wheel.
or
XUse the volume controller of the audio
system/COMAND.
The system offers various services, e.g:
RAutomatic and manual emergency call
RRoadside Assistance call
RMB Info call

System self-test
After you have switched on the ignition, the
system carries out a self-diagnosis.
Amalfunction in the system has been
detected if one of the following occurs:
RThe indicator lamp in the SOSbutton does
not come on during the system self-test.
RThe indicator lamp in theRoadside
Assistance buttondoes not light up during
self-diagnosis of the system.
RThe indicator lamp in the\nMB Info call
button does not light up during self-
diagnosis of the system.
RThe indicator lamp in one or more of the
following buttons continues to light up red
after the system self-diagnosis:
-SOS button
-Roadside Assistance call button
-\nMB Info call button
RAfter the system self-diagnosis, the
InoperativeorService Not
Activatedmessage appears in the
multifunction display.
If a malfunction is indicated as outlined
above, the system may not operate as
expected. In the event of an emergency, help
will have to be summoned by other means.

authorized Mercedes-Benz Center or contact

Emergency call
Important safety notes
GWARNING
It can be dangerous to remain in the vehicle,
even if you have pressed the SOS button in an
emergency if:
Ryou see smoke inside or outside of the
vehicle, e.g. if there is a fire after an
accident
Rthe vehicle is on a dangerous section of
road
Rthe vehicle is not visible or cannot easily be
seen by other road users, particularly when
dark or in poor visibility conditions
There is a risk of an accident and injury.
Leave the vehicle immediately in this or
similar situations as soon as it is safe to do
so. Move to a safe location along with other
vehicle occupants. In such situations, secure
the vehicle in accordance with national
regulations, e. g. with a warning triangle.
You must have a license agreement to
activate the mbrace service. Make sure that
your system is activated and operational. To
register, press the\nMB Info call button.
If any of the steps mentioned are not carried
out, the system may not be activated.

an air bag or Emergency Tensioning Device is
triggered.
iYou cannot end an automatically
triggered emergency call yourself.

An emergency call can also be initiated
manually.
As soonas the emergency call has been
initiated, the indicator lamp in the SOS button
flashes. The multifunction display shows the
Connecting Callmessage.
The audio output is muted.
Once the connection has been made, the
Call Connectedmessage appears in the
multifunction display.
All important information on the emergency
is transmitted, for example:
RCurrent location of the vehicle (as
determined by the GPS system)
RVehicle identification number
RInformation on the severity of the accident
Shortly after the emergency call has been
initiated, a voice connection is automatically
established between the Customer
Assistance Center and the vehicle occupants.
RIf the vehicle occupants respond, the
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center attempts to get more information
on the emergency.
RIf there is no response from the vehicle
occupants, an ambulance is immediately
sent to the vehicle.
If no voice connection can be established to
the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center, the system has been unable to initiate
an emergency call.
This can occur, for example, if the relevant
mobile phone network is not available. The
indicator lamp in the SOS button flashes
continuously.
TheCall Failedmessage appears in the
multifunction display and must be confirmed.
In this case, summon assistance by other
means.
Making an emergency call
XTo initiate an emergency call
manually:press coverbriefly to open.
XPress SOS buttonbriefly.
The indicator lamp in SOS button
flashes until the emergency call is
concluded.
XWait for a voice connection to the
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center.
XAfter the emergency call, close cover.
iIf the mobile phone network is
unavailable, mbrace will not be able to
make the emergency call. If you leave the
vehicle immediately after pressing the SOS
button, you will not know whether mbrace
placed the emergency call. In this case,
always summon assistance by other
means.
Roadside Assistance button

XPress Roadside Assistance button.
This initiates a call to the Mercedes-Benz
Customer Assistance Center.
The indicator lamp in Roadside Assistance
buttonflashes while the call is active.
The multifunction display shows the
Connecting Callmessage. The audio
output is muted.
If a connection can be made, theCall
Connectedmessage appears in the
multifunction display.
If a mobile phone network and GPS reception
are available, the system transfers data to the
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center,
for example:
RCurrent location of the vehicle
RVehicle identification number
iThe audio system or COMAND display
indicates that a call is active. During the
call, you can change to the navigation menu
by pressing the NAVI button on COMAND,
for example.
Voice output is not available.
Avoice connection is established between
the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center and the vehicle occupants.
From the vehicle remote malfunction
diagnosis, the Mercedes-Benz Customer
Assistance Center can ascertain the nature of
the problem (Ypage 271).
The Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center either sends a qualified Mercedes-
Benz technician or makes arrangements for
your vehicle to be transported to the nearest
authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.
You may be charged for services such as
repair work and/or towing.
Further details are available in your mbrace
manual.
iThe system has not been able to initiate
a roadside assistance call, if:
Rthe indicator lamp for Roadside
Assistance call buttonis flashing
continuously.
Rno voice connection to the Mercedes-
Benz Customer Assistance Center was
established.
This can occur if the relevant mobile phone
network is not available, for example.
TheCall Failedmessage appears in the
multifunction display.
XTo endacall:press the button on the

Call priority
When service calls are active, e.g. Roadside
Assistance or MB Info calls, an emergency
call can still be initiated. In this case, an
emergency call will take priority and override
all other active calls.
The indicator lamp of the respective button
flashes until the call is ended.
An emergency call can only be terminated by
the Mercedes-BenzCustomerAssistance
Center.
All other calls can be ended by pressing:
Rthe button on the multifunction
steering wheel
Rthe corresponding button on the audio
system or on COMAND for ending a
telephone call
iWhen a call is initiated, the audio system
is muted. The mobile phone is no longer
connected to COMAND. However, if you
want to use your mobile phone, do so only
when the vehicle is stationary and in a safe
location.
Downloading destinations in COMAND
Downloading destinations
Destination Download gives you access to a
data bank with over 15 millionPoints of
Interest (POIs). These can be downloaded on
the navigation system in your vehicle. If you
know the destination, the address can be
downloaded. Alternatively, you can obtain the
location of Points of Interest (POIs)/
important destinations in the vicinity.
Furthermore, you can download routes with
up to 20 way points.
You are prompted to confirm route guidance
to the address entered.
The system calculates the route and
subsequently starts the route guidance with
the address entered.
iIf you selectNo, the address can be saved
in the address book.
