the rear lid or hood are opened within 60 sec

tally left unlocked over a long per iod of t ime.

Unlocking and locking with the
convenience key
Applies to: vehicles with convenience key
The doors and luggage compartment lid can be
unlocked/locked without using the remote con
trol key.

Unlocking the vehicle
• Gr ip the door hand le. The door un locks auto-
matically .
• Pull the door hand le to open the door .
Locking the vehicle
Requirement: the se lector lever must be in P.

the sensor in the door handle

You can unlock/lock the ve hicle at every door .
The remote control key cannot be more than ap prox imately 4 feet (1.5 meters) away from the
door handle or the luggage compartment. It
makes no d ifference whether the master key is in
yo ur j ack et poc ket o r in yo ur brief case, for exam
ple.
The door cannot be opened for a brief period d i
r ectly after lock ing it. Th is way you have the op
po rtuni ty to chec k if the doors lo cked cor rect ly.

If your vehicle is left standing for a long peri
od of time, note the following:
-The proximity sensor switches off after a
few days to save energy. You then have to
pull once on the door handle to unlock the
vehicle and a second t ime to open it.
-The energy management system gradually
turns off unnecessary convenience functions
to prevent the vehicle battery from draining
and to mainta in the vehicle's ab ility to start
fo r as long as possib le. You may not be able
to unlock your vehicle us ing the convenience
key.
- Fo r an explanation on conformity with the

Industry Canada reg ulations, see

When locking the veh icle with the central lock ing
switch, the following app lies:
-Opening the door and the luggage compart
ment lid from the
outside is not poss ible (for
secur ity reaso ns, such as when stopped at a
light).
- The LED in the central locking sw itch turns on
when all doors are closed and locked.
- Front doors: you can open the doors individual ly from the inside by pulling the door handle .
- Rear doors: to unlock the doors, pull on the
door ha ndle
one time . To open the doors, pull
on the door handle
again .
- In the event of a crash with a irbag deployment,
the doors unlock a utomat ically to allow access
to the vehicle.

- The central locking switch a lso works when
the ign ition is switched off and automatica l
ly locks the entire vehicle when the

ton is pressed.
- The cent ral locking switch is inope ra tive
when the vehicle is locked from the outside.
- Locked doors ma ke it more diffic ult for
emergency workers to get into the vehicle,
which puts lives at r isk. Do not leave anyone
behind in the vehicle, especially c hildren .

Setting the central locking system
In the Infotainment system, you can set which doors the central locking system will unlock.

ve hicl e w ill lock automatica lly when the speed
reaches 9 mph (15 km/h) . All of the doors and

venience key, on ly the door whose handle you
pull w ill unlock.
If you press the@ button
twice , the entire vehicle w ill unlock.
If you press the
tfl button, the ent ire vehicle will
a lways lock.

Locking the front p assenger 's door /rear
doo rs with the mechanical key
An emergency lock is located on the front end of
the front passenger's door and the rear doors . It
i s only vis ible whe n the doo r is open.

• Insert the key in the inside slot and turn it all
the way to the right (right door) or left (left
door).
Once the front passenger's door/rear doo rs close,
it is no longer possible to open them from the
outside . The door can be opened from the inside
by pulling the door handle. If the child safety
lock in one of the rear doors is activated, you
must first pull the door handle from the ins ide.
Then you can open the door from the outside.

Anti-theft alarm system
If the anti-theft alarm system detects a vehicle
break-in, audio and v is u al warning signals are
tr iggered. The anti-theft a larm system is activat
ed when the vehicle is locked as usual.
It
switches off when the vehicle is unlocked.
If the a larm is triggered, it w ill shut
off automat
ically after a ce rtain amount of time . Switch the
ignition on or press
the ~ button on the remote
control key to turn
off the alarm.

A WARNING
- After closing the luggage compartment lid,
make sure that it is latched . Otherwise the
luggage compartment lid could open sud
denly when driv ing, which increases the risk
of an acc ident.
- Never drive with the luggage compartment
lid ajar or open, because poisonous gases
can enter the vehicle interior and create the
risk of asphyx iation.
- Never leave your veh icle unattended when
the luggage compartment l id is open. A
child cou ld climb into the vehicle through
the l uggage compa rtment. If the l uggage
compa rtment lid was then closed, the child
wou ld be trapped in the veh icle and un ab le
to escape . To reduce the risk of inj ury, do
not a llow children to play in or around the

vehicle. Always keep the luggage compart
ment lid and the doors closed when the ve
hicle is not in use.
- Always make sure no one is in the luggage
compartment lid's range of motion when it
is clos ing, especially near the hinges. Fin
gers or hands could be p inched .

When the vehicle is locked, the luggage com
partment lid can be unlocked separately by
pressing the

matically when it is closed again .

always pull up on it to make s ure that it is
properly closed . Otherwise it could open
suddenly when the vehicle is moving .
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the vehicle, a lways keep
the l uggage compartment l id closed whi le
driving. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit complete ly into the luggage

area, because then the luggage compartment lid cannot be fully closed .
- Never leave your vehicle unattended espe
cially with the luggage compartment lid left
open . A child could crawl into the car
through the luggage compartment and pull
the lid shut, becoming trapped and unable
to get out . To reduce the risk of personal in
jury, never let children p lay in or around
you r vehicle . A lways keep the luggage com
partmen t lid as well as the vehicle doo rs
closed when not in use.
- Never close the l uggage compartment lid
ina ttentively or without checking first . Al
though the closing force of the l uggage
compartment lid is limited, you can still se
riously injure yourself or others.
- Always ensure that no one is within range of
the luggage compartment lid when it is
moving, in particular close to the hinges and
the upper and lower edges
-fingers or
hands can be pinched.
- Never try to interfere w ith the luggage com
partment lid or help it when it is being
opened or closed automatically .

- When the vehicle is locked, the luggage

It is necessary to use more force when doing
th is. Move the lid slowly to red uce the
amount of force needed.

Requi rements : you must be carrying your veh icle

tance to the rear of the veh icle must be at least 8
in (20 cm) . The ignition must be switched off.

T he luggage compartment lid will only open if

rage door .
General information
In some si tuations, the f unct ion may be lim ited
o r tempora rily unavailable . T his may happen if:
- the luggage compartment lid was closed imme
diately before .
- you park close to a hedge and the branches
move back and forth under the veh icle for a
long per iod of t i me
- you clean your veh icle, for example with a pres
sure washer or in a car wash
- there is heavy ra in
- the bumper is very dirty, for example after d riv-
ing on salt-covered roads

the second level. The ope rat ion will stop if the
sw itch is pressed/pulled again.

-Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of time. This applies particularly when chil
dren remain in the vehicle. Otherwise the

power windows continue to function until
the driver's door or front passenger's door
has been opened.
- Pay careful attention when closing the win
dows. Pinching could cause serious inj uries .

- When locking the vehicle from outside, the
vehicle must be unoccupied since the win
dows can no longer be opened in an emer
gency .

-Using switches @ and@, the driver can a l
so operate the power sunshades* in the side
windows.
- After turning the ignition off you can still
open and close the windows for approxi mately 10 minutes . The power windows do
not switch off until the driver's door or front
passenger's door has been opened .
Correcting power window malfunctions
You can reactivate the one-touch up/down func
tion if it malfunctions .
• Pull the power window switch up until the win
dow is comp letely ra ised.
• Release the sw itch and pull it up again for at
least one second .
Sunroof

• T o tilt the sunroof comp letely, press the button
u p briefly to the second level.
• T o close the sunroof comp letely, pull the but
ton down briefly to the second

• To se lect an intermediate position, press/pull
the switch to the first level until the desired po
sition is reached.

• To open the sunroof complete ly, slide the but
ton back to just before the second level.
• To close the s unroof complete ly, slide the b ut
ton forward briefly to the second level

• To select a partially open position, slide the
bu tton forward/back to the first level until the
desired pos it ion is reached.
A wind def lector integrated into the sliding/tilt
ing sunroof adapts automatically to the speed
and sunroof pos ition. Th is reduces wind noise to
a minimum in all sunroof posit ions.
You can still operate the sliding/tilting sunroof
for about 10 minutes after the ignit ion is swi tch
ed off. The switch is deactiva ted once the driver's
or front passenger's door is opened .
Sunshad e
The sunshade opens automatically when sliding
the roof open.
Vehicles with a glass panel sunroof : the sunshade
can be opened and closed by hand when the sun
roof is closed.
Vehicles with a solar panel s unroof*: the closed
sunshade opens automatica lly when the sunroof
opens.
~ WARNING
Pay careful attention when clos ing the slid
ing/tilting sunroof - otherwise serious injury
could result! Always take the ignition key w ith
you when leav ing the veh icle.

-
A lways close your sliding/tilting sunroof when
l eaving your vehicle. Rain can cause damage
to the interior equipment of your vehicle, par ticularly the electronic equ ipment .

- For information on the so lar roof *, refer to

-The sunroof will only open down to -20 °C
(-4 °F).
