Locking the front passenger's door/rear
doors
The emergency lock is located on the rear side of
the front passenge r's door and the rear doors. It
is only visib le when the door is open .

.,. Insert the key into the slot on the ins ide and
turn it all the way to the r ight (right door) or
left (left door).
Once the front passenger's door/rear doors close, it is no longer possible to open them from the
outside . The door can be opened from the inside
by pu lling the door handle . If the child safety

lock is switched on for one of the rear doors, the
door can be opened from the outside after pu ll­
i ng the door handle once from the inside.

Anti-theft alarm system
If the anti-theft alarm system detects a vehicle break-in, audio and visual warning signals are
triggered. The anti-theft alarm system is activat­
ed when the vehicle is locked as usual. It
switches off when the vehicle is unlocked.
If the alarm is triggered, it will shut off automat­
i ca lly after a certain amount of time. Switch the
i gnition on or press the@ button on the remote
control key to turn off the alarm .

Opening the luggage compartment lid
• Briefly press the C:5 button on the remote con­
trol key. The rear lid will unlock.
• To open the luggage compartment lid, press
the
c;; button on the remote control key for at
le ast one second.
• Briefly pull the
c::;; button in the driver's door
¢ fig . 23, or
• Press the handle in the luggage compartment
lid .
• On vehicles with a conven ience key*, you can
press the grip in the luggage compartment lid.
The luggage compartment lid is u nlocked i f an
authorized remote control key is detected near
the vehicle .
Closing the luggage compartment lid
• Pull down the luggage compartment lid at the
grip and let it close using a gentle push¢,&. .
_& WARNING
-After closing the luggage compartment lid,
make sure that it is latched. Otherwise the
luggage compartment lid could open sud­
denly when driving, which increases the risk
of an accident.
- Never drive with the luggage compartment
lid ajar or open, because po isonous gases
can enter the vehicle interior and create the risk of asphyxiation.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended when
the luggage compartment lid is open. A
child could climb into the vehicle through
the luggage compartment. If the luggage
compartment lid was then closed, the child
would be trapped in the vehicle and unable
to escap e. To reduce the risk of injury, do
not allow children to play in or around the
vehicle. A lways keep the luggage compart­
ment lid and the doors closed when the ve­
hicle is not in use.
- Always make sure no one is in the luggage
compartment lid's range of motion when it
is closing, especially near the hinges. Fin­
gers or hands could be p inched.

sired open position . The position must be at a
certain height or higher to store .
"' Press and hold the
,c:;-; button for at least four
seconds and this will store the desired open po­
sition. A visual and audio signal will follow .
"' To set a higher open pos it ion, wa it at least five
seconds and then carefully press the luggage
compartment l id upward .
"' Press and hold the
,c:;-; button aga in for at least
four seconds to store the new open position .
.&, WARNING
-Pay careful attention when closing the lug­
gage compartment lid . Otherwise, you co uld
cause serious injury to yourself or others de­
spite the pinch protection.
- To reduce the risk of pinching injuries, a l­
ways make sure that no one is in the operat­ ing area of the luggage compartment lid; in­
cluding the hinge areas and the upper and
lower edge of the luggage compartment lid .
- Never drive with the luggage compartment
lid ajar or open, because poisonous gases
can enter the vehicle interior and create the
risk of asphyx iat ion .
- Never leave your veh icle unattended when
the luggage compartment lid is open . A
child cou ld crawl into the luggage compart­
ment. If the luggage compartment lid was
then closed, the child would be trapped in
the vehicle and unable to escape. To reduce
the risk of injury, do not a llow children to
play in or around the vehicle. A lways keep
the l uggage compartment lid and the doors
closed when the vehicle is not in use.
- If there is a luggage rack (such as a bicycle
rack) on the luggage compartment lid, the
luggage compartment lid may not open
completely under certa in circumstances or it
could close by itself if open due to the extra
weight . To reduce the risk of injury , the
ope n luggage compartment lid must the re­
fore have additional support or the cargo
m ust firs t be removed from the rack. ..,..

@ Tips
-The luggage compartment lid can be oper­
ated manually if the vehicle battery is low.
It is necessary to use more force when doing
th is. Move the lid slowly to reduce the
amount of force needed .
- When the vehicle is locked, the luggage
compartment lid can be unlocked separately by p ressing the
c:5 button on the remote
control key. The luggage compartment lid
l ocks automatically when it is closed again.

The child safety lock prevents the rear doors
from being opened from the inside and the rear

All power window switches are equ ipped with a
two-stage funct ion:

the switch down or pull the switch up br iefly to
the second level. The operation will stop if the
switch is pressed/pulled aga in.
• To select a position in between opened and
closed, press/pull the switch to the first leve l
u nt il t he desired window position is reached .

power windows continue to function until

dows. Pinching could ca use serio us inju ries.
- When locking the vehicle from outside, the
veh icle must be unoccup ied since the win­
dows can no longe r be opened in an emer­
ge ncy.
{1) Tips
After switching the ignition off, you can still
open and close the windows fo r approximate·
l y 10 m inutes. The power w indows do not
swi tc h off until the driver's door or fron t pas­
senger's door has bee n opened.
Convenience opening /closing
All of the windows and the panorama roof can
be opened/closed at the same time.

Lights and Vision
-If you turn off the ignition whi le the exter ior
lights are on and open the door, a warning
tone sounds.
- In cool o r damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn s ignals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature d if f erence
between the inside and outside. They will
clear short ly after switch ing them on. This
does not affect the serv ice life of the light­
i ng .
Turn signal and high beam lever
The turn signal lever operates the turn signals,
the high beams and the headlight flasher .

High beams can cause glare fo r other drivers,

- The washer fluid nozzles for the windshie ld
washer system are heated at low tempera­
tures when the ignition is on.
- When stopping temporarily, such as at a
traffic light, the speed of the windshie ld
wipers automatically reduces by one level.

Clean the wiper blades when you see wiper
streaks. Use a soft cloth and a glass cleaner .

For safety reasons, the windshield wiper
blades should be replaced once or twice each
year .

-The windshield wiper blades must only be
replaced when in the service pos ition! Oth­
erwise, you ris k damaging the paint on the
hood or the windshield wiper motor.
- You should not move your vehicle or press
the windsh ield wiper leve r when the wiper
arms are folded away from the windshie ld.
T he windshie ld wipers wou ld move back in­
to their original position and could damage
the hood and windshie ld.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper sys­
tem, always loosen blades which are frozen
to the windshield before operating wipers.
- To help prevent damage to wiper blades, do
not use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, or
other so lvents on or near the wiper blades.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper arms
or other components, do not attempt to
move the wipers by hand.

There is an additional 12V socket in the cen ter

tion is switched on. Incorrect usage can lead
to ser ious injuries or b urns . To reduce the risk
of injur ies, never leave ch ild ren unattended in
the vehicle with the veh icle key .

electrical system, never attempt to charge
the veh icle battery by co nnect ing accesso­

event of an accident.

Glove compartment
The glove compartment can lock*, illuminate*
and refrigerate* .

A WARNING
-
Always leave the lid on the glove compart­
ment cover closed while drivi ng to reduce the
r isk of injury.
Additional compartments
You will find a variety of storage compartments
and holders at various locations in the vehicle .
- In the doo r trim pane ls.
- In the center console .
- On the side of the front seats*. The sliding com-
partment can hold a maximum of 3 .3 lbs (1.5
kg) and the folding compartment can ho ld 2.2
lbs (1 kg).
- Nets* on the backrests of the front seats
- Garment hooks next to and above the rear
doors.
- Bag/secur ing hooks in luggage compartment.
A WARNING
- Make sure that the view to the rear is not
obstructed by hanging garments.
- Hang only lightwe ight cloth ing and be sure
that there are no heavy or sharp-edged ob­
jects in the pockets.
- Do not use coat hangers to hang the cloth­
ing because t his could impair the effective­
ness of the s ide air bags *.
- Only use the storage compartments in the
door trim panels to store small objects that
will not stick out of the compa rtment and
impa ir the range of the side a irbags.
- When driving, do not leave any hard objects
on the rear window shelf or a llow your pet
to sit on the she lf. They could restr ict o r
block the driver 's vision in the rear view mir ­
ror and become a hazard for vehicle occu-

pants in the event of sudden braking or a
crash.

Objects located on the rear she lf that rub
against the rear window could damage the heating wires for the rear window defogger.
(D Tips
A vent slot is located between the shel f and
the rear window. Do not b lock the vent with
any items you may place on the rear window
shelf.

Automatic climate control system
Applies to: vehicles with automatic climate control
Pressing the IAU TO I button and setting the temperature to +72 °F (22 °C) is recommended.

The IO FFI button switches the cl imate contro l
system on or off. Airflow from outside is b locked
when the climate con trol system is switched off .
IA/Cl Switching the cooling mode on and off
The air is not cooled and humidity is not removed
when cooling mode is switched off. This can
cause fog on the windows . The cooling mode
sw itches off automatically when the re are cold
ou tside temperat ures .

To switch on the rec irculat ion mode, press the
ldb •I but ton . The lower LED in the button t urns on .
I n recirculation mode, the a ir inside the vehicle is

c irculated and filtered . This prevents the unf il­
te red air outs ide the veh icle from entering the
vehicle inte rior. We recommend sw itching re cir­
cu lation mode on when d riving through a t unnel
o r when si tt ing in traffic ~.&. .
The
! AUTO I b utton or~ button switches rec i rcu­
l at ion mode off.
T o switc h on the automat ic recirculation mode,
press the
l dbA I button again . T he upper LED in the
button turns on . Recirculation mode sw itches on
automat ica lly when the eng ine is cold, if you are
dr iv ing in reverse. The a ir quality sensor that is
designed for d iesel and gasoline exhaust auto­
matically sw itches the recircu lation mode on or
off depend ing on the level of pollutants in t he
outside air. Automatic recircu lation mode is time
restricted when cooling mode (A/C) is switched
off and frost temperatures are iden tified.
