Rear -view camera (Rear View)
The rear -vie w camera picture, appearing in the MM/
Dis play, sh ows the area behind the vehicle .

Parking m od e
Two different parking modes are available for parking with the rear ­
view camera . The two different parking modes are denotes as
"parking mode 1" => page 196 and " parking mode Z' => page 198.
"Parking mode 1" => fig . 208, for example, can be used to park in a
parking space or a parking garage=>
page 196.
"Parking mode 2" => fig . 209, for example, can be used to (parallel)
park on the side of the road=>
page 198.
"Parking mode 1" appears by defau lt in the MM I Disp lay if the rear ­
view camera is activated=>
page 191. You can switch to "parking
mode
2" by pressing the control button with the mode ©
=> page 196, fig . 213 function. By repeated ly pressing the control
bu tton with the
mode function, you can switch back and forth
between "parking mode
1" and "parking mode 2" .
Or ientat ion lines and marked surface s
Orientation lines and colored marked surfaces(=> page 196, fig. 212
or=> page 198, fig . 214) a re projected into the rear -view camera
pictures , subject to the two different parking modes . These orienta ­
t ion lines and surfaces offer aid when parking or maneuvering . The
orientation lines and surfaces refer to the height of a level driving
surface.
When the indicated orientat ion lines and indicated blue surfaces
superimpose vehicles or objects, at the latest, the respective
distance to the vehicles or objects has become too short
=>
page 200 .
If the trunk lid is open, or if an electrical connection to the factory
installed trailer socket*, or one installed according to factory speci­
fications, is established=>
page 201, the orientation lines and
marked surfaces are
not displayed.
In the MMI you can preset which system is to be shown on the MMI
display =>
page 203:
• Visual display ,
• Rear -view camera pic ture,
• An automatic switch between visual display and rear -view
camera, or
• No picture.

T he rear -v iew cam era can be turned on and off in the MMI
~ page 203 . The acous tic dista nce wa rning rem ains ac tive .
& WARNING
• The rear -view camera has blind spots, in which objects cannot
be detected . Be especially careful to check for small children and
animals before backing up. Small children and animals will not
always be detected by the sensors .
• The Audi parking system is not a substitute for being careful
and alert when backing up. Be especially careful during parking
and similar maneuvers . Always watch where you are driving and
make sure that nothing is in the way .
• Remember that low obstacles which have already been
signaled may pass below the system's sensing zone when the
vehicle is backing up . The fact that the signal stops does not mean
that you have cleared the obstacle. When the signal stops , impact
is imminent . Objects such as trailer hitches, chains , narrow posts
or fences covered by a thin layer of paint may not always be
detected by the system. They can still damage your vehicle
without warning .
• Always make sure that the volume and frequency of the chimes
is adjusted so that you can easily hear the acoustic distan ce signal
even if the radio is playing , the air-conditioner blower is on High or
there is a high level of outs ide noise .
- Check the settings whenever someone else has driven the
vehicle before you.
• Improper reliance on the Audi parking system can cause colli ­
sions and serious personal injury .
- Never rely only on parking assist when changing backing up.
- Always check rear view mirrors to make sure it is safe to back
up.

of the bumper are not recognized.

Please note that objects not touching the ground can appear to be
further away than they really are (for example, the bumper of a
parked vehicle, a trailer hitch, or the rear of a truck). In this case,
you should not use the guide help lines to measure distance -

G) Blue surfa ce
The surface beh ind the vehicle, identified by various shades of blue,
represents an ex tension of the outer vehic le outline by approxi ­
mately 16 ft (5 ml to the rear. The transitions of the blue surfaces are
distanced approxima te ly 3 ft (1 ml, 6 ft (2 m), and 16 ft (5 m) away
from the vehicle .
@ and 0 Orange orientation lines
The orientation lines change direction with the steering wheel
ang le . These lines identi fy t he direction of travel the rear o f the
vehicle would be taking, driving in reverse gear with the current
steering whee l ang le .
The dynamic orientation lines are provided with markers@. These
markers are each placed at a distance of approx. 3 ft ( 1 ml from one
another. Through these markers, the distance to an obstacle can be
estimated .

The distance between your rear bumper© and the red line is
approximately 16 inches (40 cm):::::,&. Here, at the latest, you

- Position your vehicle parallel to the edge of the road, approximately 3
ft (1 m) away from a parked vehicle

- Press the control button with the

Back up in reverse gear and adjust the posit ion of your
vehicle in such a way, that the dark blue surface indicated in the MMI Display@=> fig. 214 borders on the vehicle
behind, or the parking spot line. If you are
not parking
next to any obstacles=>
page 199, the long side of the
dark blue surface should border on the curb. The entire
dark blue surface has to fit into the parking spot
=> page 194, fig. 209.
- While the vehicle is stationary, turn your steering wheel
to the righ t as far as it will go.
- Back up into the parking spot. If you are
not parking next
to any obstacles=>
page 199, the dark blue bend©
should touch the curb=> fig. 215. Stop your vehicle.
- While the veh icle is stationary, turn your steering wheel
in the opposite direction (left) as far as it will go.
- Continue to back up into the parking spot until the
vehicle is parked parallel to the curb. When backing up, also keep an eye on the vehicle front=>

With "parking mode 2", you can park on the left and right side of the
road. For this reason, the blue surfaces and curved lines are
displayed in different shades of blue. The dark blue surface

When the turn signal is switched on, only the necessary surfaces
and curves are shown . To change the s ide that is shown, simp ly
change the turn signa l.
The displayed light b lue
0 or dark blue © curved line identifies the
turn-around point when maneuvering to park. If the curved line
touches the curb, the steering wheel turn -around point has been
reached => page 198, fig. 215.
T he distance from the rear bumper © to the red line © is approxi ­
mate ly 1.3 ft (40 cm). Here, at the latest, you shou ld s top bac king up

Parking next to obstacles
When parking next to an obstacle, enough distance mus t
left on the side.

With "parking mode 2", you can park very c losely to a sidewalk curb
with your vehicle=> page 194, fig. 209.
However, when parking next to an obstacle, such as a brick wall , a
larger side distance must be selected in order to prevent col lisio n
damage to the vehicle. Position the long side of the marked blue
s u rface so that there is enoug h distance from the curb; the surface
must not touch the curb=> fig. 216.
A lso, the turning process has to occur considerab ly sooner . This
means that the corresponding blue curved line=> page 198, fig. 215
must not touch the curb, but shou ld rather be at a distance far
enough from the curb=>& .
& WARNING
• Keep plenty of di sta nce from an obstacle , so that your out side
mirror or a corner of your vehi cle does not collide with any obsta-
cle s -danger of accident!

The red line in the MMI Display~ fig. 217 indicates the distance you
should maintain from an obstacle, when parking. If an obs tac le is
l ocated at road l eve l, you can approach the obstacle unti l the red
l ine to uche s the obstac le ( 1.3
ft, or 4 0 cm , distance). On the o the r
h a n d, if an obstacle is no t locat ed a t road level (the bu mpe r of a
vehic le, for examp le), you should not approach this obstac le unti l
t h e red line touc hes the obstacle.

Towing hitch
For vehicles with a factory installed towing hitch, or a trailer hitch
installed according to factory specifications , the rear acoustic
parking sensors are not activated when the vehicle is put in reverse
gear while an electrical connection to the trailer socket* is estab ­
lished. No distance alert occurs in the rear =:>
page 191. The rear­
view camera picture=:>
page 194 is displayed without orientation
lines and without blue surfaces. •

Adjusting the chimes -option 1
The volume and the pitch (frequency) of the chimes can
be adjusted in the MM!.
Press the [CAR] function button.
Select
Systems* in the CAR menu.

- Select Front volume to change the volume of the front
audible signal generator, or
Rear volume to change the
volume of the rear audible signal generator.
Select
Front frequency to change the frequency of the
front audible signal generator or
Rear frequency if you
want to change the frequency of the rear audible signal
generator.
When you adjust the volume and frequency, the new setting will
sound for approximately 2 seconds from the signal generator
affected.

assigned to the remote master key.

Switching the visual display /rear-view
camera on and off
The visual display and rear-view camera are preset in the
MM!.

The rear-view camera and the visual display can be used separately
or in combination for parking .
When you switch manually to the rear -view camera v ia the control
button with the

switch back and forth between the rear-view camera and visua l
parking assist at any
time via the disp layed control button function .
The presettings in the MMI are retained .
"Graphic " setting
If you have set the Graphi c function, the visual display will be
displayed in the MMI display by defau lt upon activation of the
parking assis t system => fig . 223 .
"Rear Vi evv " s ett ing
If you have set the R ear View function , the picture from the rear­
v iew camera =>
page 196, fig. 213 will be displayed when driving
backward and forward whenever the parking assist system is acti­
vated.
" Autom atic" sett in g
If you have set the automat ic function, the picture fro m the rear­
view camera will automatically be displayed when reverse gear is engaged and the visual disp lay will be displayed on the MM I display
when you drive forward . .,.
