checking the brake fluid.
- Driving with low brake fluid is a safety haz­
ard. Stop the car and get professional assis­
tance .
- If the
1111 (USA models)/ . (Canada mod­
els) brake system indicato r light turns on to­
gethe r with the ABS and ESC indicator
lights, the ABS/ESC regu lating function may
have fa iled . Functions that stabilize the ve ­
hicle are no longer available . Th is could
cause the vehicle to swerve and increase the ris k of sliding . Stop the car and get profes­
sional ass is tance.
- If the brake warning/indicator ligh t does
not go out afte r a few seconds and the par k­
ing brake i5 relea5ed, or light5 up wh ile you
are driving, the fluid level in the brake fluid
reservoir is too low. If yo u be lieve that it is
safe to do so, proceed immediately at low
speed to the nearest authorized Audi dealer
or qualif ied repa ir facility and have the
brake system inspected.
- Always keep in m ind that after several brake
applications, you w ill need greater pressure
on the b rake pedal to stop your veh icle . Do
not rely on strained brakes to respond with
maximum stopp ing power in cr itical s itua­
tions. You must a llow for increased brak ing
distances. The extra dist ance used up by
fading bra kes co uld lead to an accident.
PARK/ C®) Electromechanical parking brake
The warning/indicator light monitors the elec ­
tromechanical parking brake .

• Engine stopped: No power steering and
brake support.
There is a malfunction in the en gine or in the fue l
supp ly system .

~ Engine oil pressure malfunction
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol re­
quires immed iate service or re pair. Driving wi th a
low- oil-pressure indi cation is likely to inflict se ­
vere damage to the engine .

- The engine oil pressure symbol. is not
an indicator for a low engine oil level. Do not rely on it . Instead, check the oil level in
your engine at regular intervals , preferably
each time you refuel , and always before
going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication
Ell
requires oil refill or workshop service with­
out delay. Do not wait until the red oil
pressure warning. starts to flash before
you respond to the low oil level warning

suffered serious damage.

malfunct ion corrected .
;;Jf; Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC)
If the m indicator light blinks while driving, the
E SP or ASR (anti-slip regulation) is actively regu­
lating.
I f the
liJ indicator light turns on, the system has
sw itched the ESC off . In this case, you can switch
the ignition off and then on to switch the ESC on
again. The indicator light turns off when the sys­
tem is functioning fully.

II indicator light turns on, ESC was

Stabilization control (ESC/ ABS) malfunction!

If the liJ indica to r light and the ABS indicator
lig ht ~ (USA models)

turn on and the message appears, the ABS or
electronic differential lock is malfunctioning .
This a lso causes the ESC to malfunct ion. The
brakes still function w ith their norma l power, but
ABS is not active .
Drive to yo ur aut ho rized Audi dea ler or a uthor­
ized Audi Service Fac ility to have the malfunction
corrected.
A WARNING
If the 1111 (USA models) ,111 (Canada mod­
els) brake system indicator light turns on to­
gether with the ABS and ESC indicator lights,
the ABS/ESC regulating funct ion may have
failed. Functions that stabilize the vehicle are
no longer available. This could cause the vehi­
cle to swerve and increase the risk of sliding.
Drive carefully to the nearest authorized Audi
dealer or other qualified wor kshop and have
the malfunction corrected.

ABS/( @) Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
This warning/indicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differential lock (EDL) .
The warning/indicator lig ht fJ] (USA models)/
ti] (Cana da models) wi ll come on for a few sec ­
onds when the ignition is switched on. The light
will go out after an a utomatic check sequence is
completed.
There is a malfunction in the ABS when:
- The war ning/ indicator light does not illuminate
when you switch the ignition on.
- The war ning/ indica tor light does not go out af­
ter a few seconds.
- The war ning/indica tor light illuminates while
driving.
The ESC indi cator lig ht also illum inates if there is
a malfunction in the ABS. The message Stabiliza•
tion control (ESC/ABS): Fault! See owner's
manual
also appears in the inst rument cl uste r
display and a warn ing tone sounds .
The brake system will still respond even with­
out the assistance of the ABS system. See your
authorized Audi dealer as soon as possible to re­
store full braking performance.

Malfunction in the brake system
If the brake wa rning light ¢ page 14 and the ABS
warning ill umin ate
together there may be a mal­
function in the ABS, and there may also be a mal ­
funct ion in the brake system itself¢&. .
The ABS
will not work and you will notice a change in
braking response and performance.
In the even t of a malfunction in the brake sys­
tem

!?) Engine speed limitation
(II Maximum engine speed XXXX rpm
The engine speed is automatically limited to the
speed displayed in the instrument cluster. This
protects the engine from overheating.
The engine speed limitation deactivates once the
engine is no longer in the critical temperature
range and you have released the accelerator ped­
al.
If the engine speed limitation was activated by
an engine control malfunction, the~ indicator
light also turns on. Make sure the engine speed
does not go above the speed displayed, for exam­
ple when downshifting. Drive to an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility im­
mediately to have the malfunction corrected.
(D Tips
The engine speed is limited when the engine
is cold -the full engine output is not availa­
ble. When the engine is at operating temper­
ature, the red area in the tachometer moves
to a higher RPM range .
-Engine oil sensor
• Oil level! Sensor defective
If the symbol illuminates, contact your author­
ized Audi dealer and have the oil sensor inspect­
ed. Until you have this done, check the oil level
each time you refuel just to be on the safe side
¢page 207 .
f Engine warm-up request
n Please warm up engine
Fuel has entered the engine oil, either from low
outside temperatures or frequent short drives.
Drive until the engine is warm so that the fuel in
the engine oil will evaporate . Avoid high engine
speeds, full accelerating and heavy engine loads
when doing this.

If the indicator light turns on for the first time
and the message appears , there are about 2.6
gallons (10 liters) of fuel left in the tank .
111 Fuel tank system malfunction! Please con­

© Engine oil temperature indicator
If the engine oil temperature is below 60 °C, the
II symbol followed by three hyphens"---" and
the °C unit is shown.
The engine has reached its operat ing tempera­
ture when the engine oil temperature is between
60
· c and 120 °C under normal driving condi­
tions . The engine oil tempe rature may be higher
if there is heavy eng ine load and high tempera­
tures outside . This is not a cause for concern as
long as the .
~page 16 or Ill ~page 16 indi­
cator lights in the display do not blink.
Lap timer
Introduction
You can record and evaluate lap times with the
lap timer in the display <=>
page 2 7, fig. 16. The
time is measured in minutes, seconds and 1/10
seconds. The hours are also shown when the lap
time exceeds 60 minutes. The maxim um individ­
ua l measurement is 99 hours. A maximum of SO
laps may be recorded.
A WARNING
Please devote your full attention to driving.
As the driver, you have complete responsibili­
ty for safety in traffic. Only use the functions
in such a way that you always maintain com-

plete control over your vehicle in all traffic sit­
uations.

When the lap timer stopwatch is running, you
can call up the on-board computer informa­
tion.

Timing laps
.,. To start tim ing, press the thumbwheel.
.,. To stop tim ing for this lap, press the thumb­
wheel again . T his also starts timing the next
round. The previous timing always moves one
line up. The lap number that corresponds to the
timing is displayed in front of the individua l
timings.
Displaying intermediate time and pausing
timing
.. To display an intermediate time, press the
thumbwheel. The timing continues to run in
the background.
.. To pause timing, press the thumbwheel.
.. To continue timing, press the thumbwheel
aga in .
If timing is paused, you can continue it later even
if you switch the ignition off.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine w ith the master key with re­
mote control. A mechanical key is integrated in
the remote control key¢

@ Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for constant
use. It shou ld only be used in an emergency.
Keep it in a safe place and do not carry it on your
key ring.
Key replacement
If you lose a key , contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disab led .
Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master
key. When the ignition is switched off or when
the vehicle is locked , personal convenience set­
tings for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key .
- Automatic climate contro l
- Central locking system
- Amb ience lighting*
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
- Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi active lane assist*

- Night vision assistant*
- Heated steering wheel*
The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open the
doors or when you switch the ignition on.
A WARNING
-
-Do not leave your vehicle unattended. Al­
ways take your ignition key with you and
loc k your vehicle . Entr y by unautho rized per­
sons could endanger yo u or result in theft or
damage the vehicle.
- Do not leave children unattended in the ve­
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys.
Unguarded access to the keys provides chil­
dren the opport unity to start the engine
and/or activate vehicle systems s uch as the
power windows, etc. Unsupervised opera­
tion of any vehicle system by ch ildren can
result in serious injury .
(D Tips
-The operation of the remote control key can
be temporarily disrupted by interference
from transmitters in the v icinity of the vehi­
cle working in the same frequency range
(e.g . a cell phone, radio equipment).
- For security reasons, replacement keys are
only ava ilable from Audi dealers .

States FCC and Industry Canada regulations

Selective unlocking
When you lock the vehicle, the power locking sys­
tem will lock the doors and the rear lid . When
unlocking, you can set in the MMI whether only
the driver's door or the entire vehicle should be unlocked
¢ page 33.
Automatic locking
The automatic locking feature locks all the vehi­
cle doors and the rear lid when you drive faster
than 9 mph (15 km/h) .
The car is unlocked again, when the opening
function in the power locking system switch or at
one of the door levers is actuated. The Auto Lock
function can be turned on and off in the MMI
¢page 33.
Anti-theft alarm warning system
If the anti-theft alarm warning system detects a
break-in into the vehicle, acoustic and visual
warning signals are triggered .
The anti-theft warning system is activated auto­ matically when you lock the vehicle. It is deacti­
vated when unlocking using the remote key, with
the mechanical key, and when you switch the ig­ nition on .
The alarm also turns off when the alarm cycle has
expired .
Turn signals When you unlock the vehicle, the turn signals
flash twice. When you lock the vehicle the turn
signals flash once. If they do not flash, one of the
doors, the rear lid or the hood is not locked.
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the following cases there safeguards to pre­
vent you locking your remote master key in the
vehicle:

- The vehicle does not lock with the central lock­
ing switch ~
page 35 if the driver's door is
open.
- On vehicles with convenience key*, if the most
recently used master key is in the luggage com­
partment, the rear lid is automatically unlocked
again after it is closed.
Do not lock your vehicle with the
remote master
key or convenience key*
until all doors and the
rear lid are closed . In this way you avoid locking
yourself out accidentally.
Power side door closer*
The vehicle doors are equipped with a power side door closer. When closing a door, you only have
to let it fall lightly into the latch. The door will
then automatically close by itself¢,&. .
A WARNING
-
-When you lock your vehicle from outside,
nobody - especially children - should remain
inside the vehicle . Remember, when you
lock the vehicle from the outside the win­
dows cannot be opened from the inside.
- When you leave the vehicle, always take the
ignition key with you. This will prevent pas­
sengers (children, for example) from acci­
dentally being locked in the vehicle should
they accidentally press the power locking
switch in the doors.
- Do not leave children inside the vehicle un­
supervised. In an emergency it would be im­
possible to open the doors from the outside
without the key.
- Applies to vehicles with power side door
closer*:
- When closing a door, make sure nothing
can interfere with the door. This could
cause serious personal injury .
- You can stop the door from closing at any
time by pulling on the inside or outside
door handle.

In the event of a failure of the power locking sys­tem, the driver's door can be locked and un­
locked at the lock cylinder.

If you lock the veh icle using the power locking
switch, p lease note the follow ing:
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid from
the
outside (increased security, for example
when you are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switches illumi­
nate when all the doors are closed and locked .
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the doors
from the ins ide by pulling on the door handle.
- Rear doors: pull the door handle
once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the handle
again to open
the door .
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activated,
the doors automatically unlock .
A WARNING
-- The power locking switch works with the ig-
n ition off and automatically locks the entire
veh icle when it is actuated.
- On a vehicle locked from the outs ide the
power locking system switch is inoperative.
- Locked doors make it more difficult for emergency workers to get into the vehicle,
which puts lives at ris k . Do not leave anyone
behind in the vehi cle, especially children.

speed of 9 mph (15 km/h)
