-If the lanes are narrow or i f you are driving on
the edge of your lane. If this is the case, the
system may have detected a vehicle in another
lane that is
not adjacent to your current lane.
- If you are driving t hrough a curve. Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lane over
from the adjacent lane .
- If side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or displaced guard rails).
- In poor weather conditions . The side assist
functions are limited.
Do not cove r the radar
sensors¢ fig . 141 with
stickers, deposits, bicycle whee ls or other ob ­
jects, beca use they wi ll impair the f unction . Do
not use side assist when towing a trailer. For in­
formation on cleaning,

A WARNING
-Always pay atte ntion to traffic and to the
area aro und your vehicle. Side assist cannot
r ep lace a dr ive r's attent ion. The dr ive r alone
is a lways responsible for lane c hanges and
s imi lar d riving maneuvers.
- In some situat ions, the system may not
func tion or its f un ct io n may be lim ited. Fo r
exa mple:
- If vehicles are approach ing or being le ft
beh ind very quickly. The display may not
tur n on in t ime.
- In poor weather conditions s uch as heavy
rain, snow or heavy mist.
- On very wide lanes, in tight curves, or i f
there is a rise in the road su rface. Vehicles
in the adjacent lane may not be detected
because they are outs ide of the sensor
range.

The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumpe r, whee l housing and
underbody. Th is can impa ir the system. Have
an au thor ized A udi dealer or au tho rized Aud i

Setting the display brightness

The disp lay br igh tness adjusts au toma tically to
t h e b righ tness o f the sur ro undings, bo th in the
i nforma tion and in the warning stage. In very
dar k or very bright surroundings, the automatic
adjustment will set the display to the minim um
or max imum level. In such cases, yo u may notice
no change when adjusting the br ightness, or the
change may only be noticeab le once the sur­
r ound ings change .
Adjust the br ightness to a leve l whe re the display
i n the information stage will not disrupt your
v iew ahead. If you change the br ightness, the dis­
play in the exterior mirror w ill br iefly show the
brightness leve l in the i nfo rmation stage . The
br ightness of the warn ing stage is linked to the
br ightness in the infor mation stage an d is adjus t-
ed a long w ith the info rm ation st age .

Activating rear cros s-traffic assist
The rear cross- traffic assist is ac tivated a utomat i­
cally if you t urn on the pa rking aid
¢ page 143 or
shift into reverse gear.
The rea r cross- traffic assist can warn t he drive r of
a potential collis ion with approaching cross-traf­
f ic when driving in reverse at speeds up to ap­
proximately 7 mph ( 12 km/h). Within its limits,
the system monitors the areas behind and next
to the veh icle using the radar sensors when leav­
ing a parking space

objects that are approaching, such as cars, are

If the system detects cr itical cross traffic when
backing out of a parking space, it will react as fol­
lows:

- Visual indicator : an indicator appears in the In ­
fotainment system disp lay with a red arrow
symbo l. The arrow points in the d irect ion from
which the object is

-Audible warning signal : a continuous tone may
sound as an addit ional indicator when dr iving in
reverse.
- Automat ic brake acti vation : a brief activation
of the brakes may also warn you of a potent ial
collision w ith an approaching object.
The audib le warning signal and the automatic
bra ke activation occur only when driv ing in re ­
verse.
A WARNING
-- The rear cross-traffic assist is an assist sys­
tem and cannot prevent a co llision by itself .
The drive r must always intervene . T he d river
is always respons ible for b raking at the cor­
rect t ime.
- Please note that the rear cross-traff ic assist
may activate the b rakes unexpe cted ly. Se­
cure a ny cargo th at you are transpor ting to
redu ce t he risk of damage or i njury.
- An add itiona l brake activation may be t rig­
ge red w ith in 10 seconds after an automatic
b rake activation.
- I f the re is an acoustic wa rn ing s ignal from
the rea r cross-traffic ass ist, t hen the p ark­
ing sys tem may not warn you of detected
obstacles under certain circumstances.
- The v iew o f the radar sensors may be im­
pa ired by leaves, s now, heavy sp ray or dirt.

A WARNING
-
-The rear cross -traffic assist will not provide
alerts if your vehicle is pulled too far into
the parking space so that it is hidden by ad­
jacent vehicles.
- The rear cross-traffic assist will not provide
alerts about people a nd can not warn you
about every type of approaching objects,
such as cyclists. Always monitor the t raff ic
as we ll as the vehicle's sur roundi ngs wit h di-
re ct eye contact .

- The rear cross-traffic assist also switches off when you switch off the ESC.

Audi drive select
Introduction
App lies to : vehicles wi th Audi drive se lec t
Audi drive select makes it poss ible to experience
different types of vehicle settings in one vehicle.
The dr iver can select from three modes,
Comfort ,
Auto
and Dynamic , using the ~.'/:.1 button in the
center console or by using the Infotainment sys­
tem. This allo ws you to switch between a sporty
and a comfo rtable driving mode, for example. In
the
Individual* mode, the settings can be adjust ­
ed to your personal preferences . This makes it
possible to comb ine settings such as a sporty en­
gine setting with light steering.
Description

The vehicle setup in each mode depends on the
vehicle 's features. However, the engine and
steering are a lways affected .

Engine and automatic transmission
D epending on the mode, the eng ine and auto ­
mat ic transmission * respond more quickly or in a
more balanced manner to accelerator pedal
movements . In the sporty dynamic mode, the
transmission shifts at higher speed ranges.
Suspen sion control (Audi magnetic ride) *
The s uspension contro l uses sensors to reco rd in­
formation regarding steering movements, brak ­
ing and acce leration operations by the driver, as
well as information abo ut th e road s urface, driv ­
ing speed, and load. With Audi dr ive select you
can adjust the suspens ion control to sporty (dy­
namic), comfortable (comfort) or balanced (au­
to) .
Steering
T he steering adapts in terms of steering assis ­
tance. There are different modes
¢ page 142 .
Indirect steering that moves easily as in comfort
mode is especia lly su ited to long drives on a high ­
way . The dynam ic mode p rovides sporty, d irect
steer ing .
For vehicles w ith progressive steering* the steer­
in g performance is more ag ile .
Audi adapt ive light *
The i llumination on curves in adaptive light is
adapted to the se lected mode.
Audi adaptive cruise control*
The behav ior when a cce le ra ting can be adjus ted
from com fortab le to sporty, depending on the
drive select mode . Adaptive cr uise control a lso
r e sponds to the driving behavior of the ve hicle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner.

- In some models, the maximum vehicle
speed can only be reached in the auto and
dynam ic modes.
A ss istance systems
- The "S " sele ctor leve r position au tomatically
engages if the dynamic mode is selected.

Parking aid
Sensors are located in the front and rear bump­
ers . If these detect an obstacle, audible and visu­
al signals warn you.

The closer you get to the obstacle, the shorter
the interva l between the audible signals. A con­
tinuous tone sounds when the obstacle is less
than approximately 1 foot (0.30 meters) away .

If the distance to an obstacle remains constant,
the vol ume of the distance warning gradually
lowers after a few seconds until it is muted (this
is not apply in the continuous tone range).
If the
obstacle becomes closer than it was before the
sound was muted, the tone w ill sound again. If
the obstacle is farther away than it was before
the sound was muted, no tone will sound. Pay at­
tention to the vehicle's su rroundings whe n you
start to drive.

The system switches on automatically when re­
verse gea r is engaged wh ile the engine is run­
ning. A brief confirmation tone will so und .
If Activate automatically is switched on in the
Infotainment system and if the vehicle ap­
proaches an obstacle at speeds under approxi­
mately 6 mph (10 km/h), the parking aid will
switch on automatically . Audible signals wi ll
sound once the obstacle is within the sensor de­
tection area.
Switching off automatically
The system switches off automatically when driv­
i ng fo rward faster than 6 mph (10 km/h).
Segments in the visual display
The segments in front of and behind the vehicle
~ fig. 147 he lp you to determine the distance be­
tween yo ur vehicle and an obstacle . The red
lin es* mark the expected direction of travel ac­
cording to the steering angle. A white segment
indicates an identified obstacle that is outside of
the vehicle's path . Red segments show identified
obstacles that are in your veh icle's path. As your
vehicle comes closer to the obstacle, the seg­
ments move closer to the vehicle . The collision
area has been reached when the ne xt to last seg ­
ment is d isplayed . Obstacles in the coll is ion area,
i nclud ing those outside of the vehicle's path, are
shown in red. Do not continue driving forward or

If you press the P, Y! button to switch the park­
ing aid off, it can only be reactivated auto­

tions is met:
- The vehicle speed exceeds 6 mph (10 km/

Parking aid
-Only use the rearview camera to assist you if
it shows a good, clear picture. For example,
the image may be affected by the sun shin­
ing into the lens, d irt on the lens, or if there
is a malfunction .
- Use the rearview camera only if the luggage
compartment lid is completely closed . If the
luggage compartment lid is open the orien­
tation lines and blue surfaces are hidden .
Make su re any objects you may have mount­
ed on the luggage compa rtment lid do not
block the rearview camera.
- T he came ra lens enlarges and distorts the
field of v is ion. Th e object appears both al­
tered and inaccurate on the screen.
- In certai n situations, people or objects in
the d isplay appear closer or farthe r away:
- For objects that do not touch the ground,
such as the bumper of a parked vehicle, a
trailer hitch or the rear of a truck . Do not
use the orientation lines in this case .
- If driven from a level surface onto an in­
cline, o r a downward slope.
- If driven toward protrud ing objects.
- If the veh icle is carry ing too much load in
the rear.
- Always read and follow the applicable warn­
ings ¢(!) in General information on
page 143 .
-The orange-colored orientation lines in the
Infotainment display show the vehicle path
based on the steering wheel angle . The
front of the vehicle swings out more than
the rear of the veh icle. Mainta in plenty of
distance so that an exterio r mirror or a cor­
ner of the vehicle does not co llide w ith any
obstacles.

Intelligent Technology Electronic Stabilization
Control (ESC)
Description
Elect ronic stabili zation control ( ESC) supports
driver safety. It red uces the risk of slipping and
improves dr iving stabi lity. ESC detects crit ica l sit­
uations such as the vehicle overstee ring and un­
dersteeri ng or the w heels are sp inning. The vehi­
cle is stabilized by app lying the brakes or reduc ­
i n g e ngine torque . When the ESC engages, the
G1 indicato r light bli nks in t he instr ument clus­
t er.
The fo llow ing systems are in tegrated in the ESC:
Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
ABS p reve nts the whee ls from lock ing whe n brak ­
ing. The vehicle can st ill be steered even d uring
hard brak ing. Apply steady press ure to the bra ke
pedal. Do not pump the pedal. A puls ing in t he
b rake pedal indicates that the system is act ing to
s tabili ze the vehicle .
Brake assist system
The brake assist system can decrease brak ing dis­
tance . It inc reases brak ing power when the d river
presses the brake pedal q uick ly in eme rgency sit­
uations . You must press and hold t he b rake pedal
until the dangerous si tuatio n is ove r. In veh icles
w ith adapt ive c ruise con trol*, the bra ke assist
sys te m is more sensitive if t he di stan ce detec ted
t o the veh icle dr iv ing ahead is too small.
Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)
ASR reduces eng ine power when the drive wheels
beg in s pinning a nd adapts the force to the road
conditions . T his makes it easie r to sta rt, acceler­
a te and dr ive u p hill s.
Electronic differential lock (EDL)
The EDL applies the brakes to a whee l t h at starts
sp inning and transfe rs t he d rive power to t he
other d riving wheel or wh eels ( if the veh icle is
eq uipped w ith all whee l dr ive*) . T his func tion is
no t a vailable at hig her s pee ds .

In extreme cases, ED L automat ica lly swi tches off
to keep the b rake o n the bra ked whee l from over ­
h eating. The ve hicle is still wo rking co rrect ly. ED L
will switc h on again automatically when condi­
tions have returned to normal.
Power steering
The ESC can also support veh icle sta bility
th ro ugh stee ring .
Selective wheel torque control
Selective w heel to rque cont rol is used when driv­
in g on curves. The fron t whee l on the in side of
t h e curve or both whee ls on t he i nsid e of the
cu rve are braked se lective ly as needed. This al ­
l ows mo re precise driving in cu rves .
Automatic post-collision braking system
The "automat ic pos t-coll is io n braking syste m"
c a n help t o reduce t he risk of sliding and of addi ­
tion al collisions a fter an acc iden t. If the a irbag
contro l modu le detects a collision above a certa in
vehicle speed, the ve hicle is braked by the ESC.
The
ve hicle does not br ak e automatically if;
- t he dr ive r presses the acce lerato r pedal, or
- the ESC, the b ra ke system or the ve hicle elect ri-
cal sys tem are not func tioning .
